hi all is it possible to run both the default opera and the newest opera together on same device, maybe install one to the storage card would it work
I'm using the beta Opera 10 from SD card and it works fine (very impressive). I did not delete the original version. It's handling of drop-down selection lists is particularly user-friendly. But only the original version will change to landscape mode when you tip the HD2 sideways.

there's an updated version that supports rotation. but still no pinch to zoom
I'll try it. Meanwhile, I like to 'tap screen to zoom' that Opera 10 does more than the pinch. It works like the closeup function on the HD2 camera.
just add the window class to the reg or use bsb tweaks to enable landscape.
beta 2 does seem as happy run of sd as it does in main memory. just remember to set the caches to storage card.
both apps are installed in different folders so they don't conflict.
I installed the beta 2 of opera 10 and i still have the orginal (Installed Opera 10 to phone) gonna delete the original, well at least for now.
OK ALL THANKYOU
so i can install to storage and the default opera will be untouched, great news ill try the latest beta then,
where do i get the latest beta as their no many which is newest
Try: http://www.opera.com/mobile/download/
When installing opera 10 is it possible for the web tab of sense 2.5 to open quick link favourites in this instead of the pre-installed opera version? Is it just a case of setting it as default? If this is the case would any browser work ie skyfire?
can you enable flash in the beta?
hi
do you know how to set as the default browser?
I didn't do it when instaling
try uninstall and installing again.
beta2 works great. improvement in almost/all every aspect
Runs much faster and overall great improvement. Now all that is missing is multitouch zoom and flash support and we are 99% satisfied!
In fact, you can install both in SD or device memory. They application has a different name. One is Opera and the other is Opera 10.
hi ,
how to install the old opera ? i installed the new opera 10
but can't find the old ver in the program manager
how to uninstall?

The new version, 10 Beta 2u also auto-rotates to landscape mode.
What are the improvements over Opera 9 and are there any negatives?
- The negative point for Opera 9 in my opinion is that most of the time it wants to open the web page in 'mobile' version by default. This only reasons is so boring that it made me prefere Opera 10.
- With Opera 10 you will lose the Pinch & zoom.
Wow this new beta 2 is great! This version Does rotate without having to use tweaks. Browsing is wonderful!!
reset default browser to 9.7
for those that want the 9.7 as default browser try this
in opera 9 type
opera:
in the address bar. Then hit preferences and do a search for "first". A list should appear with something like first launch. tick this box, then hit save. exit opera. Open opera 9. it should now be default browser.

HTC Atom Phonepad with T9, a virtual on screen keyboard that looks like a phone pad with T9. You can type with your finger with the bigger buttons. Very very nice. I forget what these are called but if someone can reply with HTC Atom Phonepad with T9 and the name for these virtual keyboards so this can be found in searches.

Let me know what you think!
anyone try this out on their wing yet? it is a beta..
Opera Mobile
9.5's been out for a while. It works well on the wing, blows PIE away on large pages, almost as fast as mini. But it installs to your \Windows folder and will not work off the storage card. It doesn't allow predictive text, it takes up about 6Mb of device memory, and 9Mb of ram. It's a good browser if you can spare the system resources.
Thanks for the phone pad, I'm trying it now.
I just wanted to give back to the community.
This is a new beta, beta 1 or something like that released today.
maybe this new beta of opera mobile is different, but i was able to install it to my sd card and it only took an extra 2mb from my storage.
Newer 9.51
This is 9.51b1 I had 9.5b1004. I'll load it up and test it out. Thanks for the update!
Do you know how we can set it up so that the Cache files etc are all on the SD Card too?
I installed it (I have t-mobile rom) on my sd card, and on the phone... the only issue I've run into so far is out of memory errors.
I've run the 6mb mem pool size mod and font/file cache mods on my phone and have resco mod and batterystatus mod w/vista theme.
any ideas?

I don't know if this is ActiveX or a windows media plugin, but if you have a newer HTC device with Opera preinstalled (such as touch pro) and visit pages with a WMP embedded in them, it WORKS! However the one thing I can't figure out is how they did it because a stock Opera mobile beta does not work with WMP embedded at all on my Treo 700wx

Opera updated today their open beta in http://www.opera.com/products/mobile/download/ . Now it seems they have an Symbian UIQ version too.
This version also includes the Opera widgets plataform. I dont tested yet and dont know the core build number.

If I look at the Known Issues then nothing works
ActiveX is disabled - Flash plugins and embedded video streaming do not work.
Custom software keyboards (IME) will be buggy at best, not working at worst.
No multilingual build - Only English is supported. Problems with other languages (and input methods) are not unexpected.
Installation on memory cards may cause problems.
Text wraps in overview mode.
Main testing has been done on English HTC devices (Touch Diamond, Touch Pro, Touch, Touch Dual, Touch Cruise, TyTN and Wizard) and Samsung i900.
Landscape mode does not take keyboard position into consideration.
Devices with low memory might get Out Of Memory (OOM) messages.
Opera is always running when the Widgets Manager is running.
On devices with hight DPI some of the pre-installed widgets look small.
When an URL is opened from a widget, there will be an extra browser window opened in the background that's not working properly.
Ok I installed it in my Diamond.
Its build 2723 and seems to be really fast. I installed into device and it doesn't messed up with my ROM's Opera.
The navigation is really fine but the whole widget thing is very buggy. Once you run Widgets the browser doesn't run anymore. You need to kill Opera and OperaL process or softreset. Avoiding widgets you will have a great experience.
Ok, some minutes later and I've got another impression.
Beta 2 is fast and render better some pages (gmail in normal view for example) but its unusable. The shortcut calls sometimes default Opera, sometimes the beta version. Always when I close beta version it displays widgets and i cant open the browser again. Download only for testing purposes.

You have two versions of Opera installed on your device simultaneously... expect problems!
Doesn't seem to take advantage of the accelerometer in the Diamond.
Wow, sad to see that Opera still sucks so much.
Also their forums are full of rants and the mods over there keep censoring and deleting forum postings and even whole threads.
Don't know what's going on, but commercial WM development is getting worse with every day. Just look at CorePlayer, STILL no fixed build for the Diamond, they even don't manage to put a build out which at least fixes the every now and then hickup while playing music.
On the other hand underground development is going higher every day, as seen in this forum.

Installed the build 2723 and removed the previous Opera9 and OperaL. Indeed, the speed is impressive! Opera Browser is now automatically loaded after each soft rest, however. Is there any way to avoid the auto-load after soft rest? As in the precious setting, I prefer to open/load the Opera Browser when needed in order to save memory.
Also, if Opera Browser is closed after being loaded into the memory (at the soft reset), it can't be re-opened without another soft rest. Any one encounters the same and may have solutions?
Can anyone please make the Beta 2 as an vga SD version...
Ok, I hope I dont get ripped into for this..but I couldnt find the answer.
I always found the web browsing experience pretty woeful on my X1...esp compared to the ifone. When you scroll up/down its juddery, giving me the two grey squares until it catches up on itself. Its really bad. I have installed various versions of Opera...the one I have stuck with is the version i found on this forum...when zooming you use an invisible scroll top right on the screen (does that make sense?)
Anyhoo, I then installed the superb Touch-it4.5...the version of opera in it is truely awesome! The juddering was gone, silky smooth and had a zoom button bottom left which worked even better than the version I was using...but...the hardware keyboard didnt work (I noticed a few other people had the same issue and the fix was to install another version). When going back, its all juddery again...did anybody get a fix for that version? What version does everybody else use as there are so many floating about.
Also, a little of topic but I was reading about a version of Opera (only on the symbian os so far?) that when you are presented with a bunch of buttons or text boxes (say for example a login/pass box) you simply click on them and it enlarges the boxs to full screen automatically and makes it alot easier to put in usernames/passes etc.
Thanks in advance folks, maybe once we get a complete fool proof guide we could stick the findings into the x1 tweaks, apps and panels thread!

Unfortunately the working and non-working items are all within the Opera9.exe itself:
1. Vibration
2. Scroll with optical pad
3. Zoom with volume buttons
4. HW keyboard interaction.
5. PushInternet support
So there's very little chance of a "perfect" Opera version. I use 15991 with Zoom enabled on a PI enabled ROM or 15696 on a non-PI ROM.
You could try and switch on "Smooth Scrolling" in opera:config and see if that helps with the judderiness...
You should wait for 9.7 to be released
I had the exact same issue.
I downloaded Opera 9.5 BETA and it works a charm. The UI is slightly different (colours) to the one installed with 4.5 Touch-IT ROM but it works perfectly for me.
The only issue is that I have to launch it as a seperate program from my start menu. I cannot seem to make it my default browser (I have no idea how to do that!) and how to get the Internet tab "launch browser" to launch Opera 9.5 and not the standard Opera.
Also if you run the standard Opera installed with 4.5 Touch-IT ROM, close it and then try to run Opera 9.5 BETA, it only loads the standard Opera, not 9.5.
I have to turn my phone off and back on to solve this and start using 9.5 from my start menu.
Long winded but its how I cope..
Opera 9.5 b2 with Gears
I use the gears version now.
I had so many problems with logging into sites with the version that ships with the phone that I gave up. The stock version only plays lip-service to being able to use flash anyway so I don't feel I'm losing out.
Also, the caching and navigation to previous pages is way faster in the gears version of the browser. Occasionally it slows down and thinks about things for a little while, and it forcing back to the default keyboard every time you try to enter stuff into a text-box, but its a beta after all so what do you expect?!
Obviously the gears version doesn't have flash support but I can't say I've missed that, since the stock version wasn't that hot anyway ;o)

I wouldn't worry about uninstalling the flash stuff you've already installed. If you do want to do it then they should be in your "remove programs" list (Settings, Menu, All Settings, System, Remove Programs).
You can find out all you need about Opera 10 from http://m.opera.com
The only thing you need to remember is that you must turn on plugins when you've installed it, otherwise Flash won't work.
Can someone tell me
1. What are the major benefits between the version of Opera Mobile currently on the HD2 and this latest Opera Mobile version
2. Sam as above but major differences between Opera Mobile and Opera Mini
I am considering Opera mini as a fellow HD2 user states it is so much better than Opera Mobile
Many Thanks
thank you
thank you for all i´ll check that
Opera Mobile 10 is pretty much identical to opera mini now. But Mini runs inside java virtual machine, so no fullscreen, doesn't really like being put in the background, need to confirm connection each time you launch it,... so Mobile 10 is preferable. If you turn on Turbo mode it uses the server based rendering like mini.
Just try it and you'll see... personally I don't like the lack of pinch to zoom and somewhat broken zoom in OM10, so I stay with the default OM9.7.
I am using Opera 10 and i have turned on the plugins. I have also instaled flash lite 3.1 on my Asus P565. I can see some of the videos on youtube (not m.youtube) but not all of them.
Can you see all of the videos ?

Thanks, so is often the case new technology is often promoted with a one sided view i.e. all the benefits but not the delta changes (negatives). So I won't be going Opera Mini.
Turbo mode would be nice but losing a good zoom in feature means I'll also stick to what I have. Is this lower zoom capability by design or a bug (i.e. might be fixed one day)?

Opera blog post:
http://my.opera.com/chooseopera/blog/2010/09/09/opera-mini-5-1-for-windows-mobile
Opera Mini 5.1 for Windows Mobile is here!
The long-awaited Opera Mini 5.1 for Windows Phone 6.5, Windows Mobile 6, Windows Mobile 5, and Windows Mobile 2003 based handsets has finally arrived. We have worked days and nights to improve on every aspect of the browser and make it integrate even better with the Windows Mobile platform. Some highlights include default browser functionality and a completely rewritten IME solution that taps directly into the device's own input method. A big thanks to all our users on Windows Mobile who have waited so patiently for this release.
NEW FEATURES
- Ability to set Opera Mini as default browser on the device.
- Support for g-sensor screen rotation on HTC and Samsung devices.
- Support for predictive input if the device supports it natively.
- Improved page layout on high-resolution screens.
- Improved kinetic scrolling.
- Use HQVGA skin for devices with less than QVGA resolution.
- Installer is now signed with VeriSign so Opera Mini will be a trusted application on your handset.
- Alternative installer that works on Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket PC devices.
- Advanced configuration in registry for power-users (see here for more information).
BUG FIXES
- Multitap input is working on 'classic' keypad devices.
- Input is working on qwerty keypad devices by Samsung and Amoi.
- Keypad shortcuts working on more devices.
- Ability to download files to memory card.
- Clock in Opera Mini is correct in all time zones now.
- Spanish locale is correctly detected.
- URLs and downloaded files can be passed to other applications as a platform request.
- Many bug fixes in Opera Mini browser core for stability and rendering accuracy.
NOTES
- Opera Mini 5.1 will be installed in parallel with Opera Mini 5.0 beta if the latter is already installed on your device.
- Opera Mini 5.1 will not import existing user data from Opera Mini 5.0 beta. Please consider using Opera Link to bring over bookmarks and speed dials to the new version.
- When set as default browser, Opera Mini 5.1 will not be the default viewer application for html files or other web page related files that may exist locally on your device.
To download Opera Mini 5.1 for Windows Mobile handsets visit http://m.opera.com/ on your phone or http://www.opera.com/mobile/download/pc/ on your PC.

Opera Mini = Amazing
It is much faster and more fluid scrolling than either Skyfire or Opera mobile.
Coming from Android (and iPhone before that) the Hd2 was lacking a great web browsing experience but No More!
OMini 5 beta was nice, but I love the better scrolling in 5.1! I've been using OMini as my browser since my Wizard.

It's because the HD2 doesn't do landscape for the home tab. Next time you do that, just hit the start menu button & bring back OMini or any other app that does do landscape (sms, albums, file explorer) & then go back to portrait & then hit home. I ran in to this when using Comic Reader Mobi
Does anyone know how clearing the cache memory works on Opera Mini?
On the Opera Mobile browser it would have an option in the security settings to clear cache so the browser wouldnt slow down but I dont see that option on Opera Mini.
Ive done google searches for "opera mini clear cache" but didnt find anything conclusive. Mostly was blackberry users assuming that the clear history option in settings also clears the cache. One person also said the cache gets cleared when you exit the browser?
Does anyone with alot of Opera experience know how clearing the cache works on Opera Mini?

Do you like the 5 mini, and why?
I've set it as default for it a week. Yes it loads faster, and the 9-grid home screen thumbnails looks better than the HD2 2-column thumbnails. I'm however switching back to the stock Opera 9.7 now. Things I don't like about Opera Mini 5:
Full screen or not, it hides my top bar, and together with it my battery indicator, clock, close button. I can't easily launch anything else or switch to another running program.
no way to minimize browser to go back to where I was
Really hates the complicated seqeunce to close the browser with the mandatory yes/no.
I can't find a way to add search providers to the search box. Well I can't modify the Opera google search either, but Opera Mini has an interface to look as if it can be configured (at least I can delete entries other than google) while not allowing me to add new entries.
force chinese language upon me. I have no idea why but all my settings are in chinese and I cannot find a way to get back to english.
Are there ways to circumvent this list of annoyances?
Does anybody know where I can find documentation on Opera Mini? I've found documentation on Opera, but they do not seem applicable to Opera Mini.

that's what the back button is for. this doesn't do like OMobile where the back button actually goes back a page

Argh
I wanted to love Opera Mini. I love the quick zoom/scroll effects.
BUT after using it for a few days I've found annoyances that keep it from being a better browser than Opera Mobile.
- Certain websites take FOREVER to load (some sites load quicker than Opera Mobile i.e. Google searches, but Xda loads slllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllooooooooooowwww)
- Certain websites dont work correctly and doesn't go to the next page when I click the link
- Can't log into certain websites like I can with Opera Mobile
- When I try to reply to XDA threads it reloads the entire page after I type something in the reply box.
- Cant clear cache memory like I can with Opera Mobile
- Cant exit Opera Mini in landscape by pressing home button since it locks up the phone
- Cant use physical back button to go back a page like you can with Opera Mobile
Oh well...
I like Opera mini too as it is a lot smoother than opera mobile. I do have one issue though:
When you enter a url, it will automatically load the mobile version if available. Not all the mobile site have a link back to their full web site so it is impossible to go to a normal page for some sites.
