Tips to get Maximum Free Storage with Official ROMs
1. Flash the ROM of your choice using Goldcard method.
2. Hard reset.
3. Use file explorer (Enable "show all files") and delete the following or move them to storage card if you need them.
a. Folder: My Device\Music
Delete the sample song folders.
b. Folder: My Device\My documents\My Pictures
Delete all or move to storage.
c. Folder: My Device\My documents\My wallpapers
Delete all or move to Storage.
d. Folder: My Device\My documents\My wallpapers
e. Folder: My Device\Program files
Delete the folder "copilot"
f. Folder: My Device\Windows\Animated Wallpaper
Delete all or move to Storage.
g. Folder: My Device\Windows\
Delete Opera 9.exe
h. Folder: My Device\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
Delete which ever shortcut you don't need.
i. Folder: My Device\Windows\Rings
Delete the Ring tones you don't use or move them to storage.
Now, you should be having atleast 155Mb+ free space.
Enjoy!

There will be two Opera9.exe files.
One in storage and another in ROM.
Once you delete the one in storage, the other one in ROM shows up which cannot be deleted.
May be you have deleted the one in storage already.
Check for the difference in available free storage.(If you remember what was before you start, there should be an increase of ~8Mb)

Some of those files may not be deleteable, or may not have an effect on free memory. The ones in \Windows will probably have to be there and deleting them will have no effect. Cooking a ROM with those files absent will give lots of free space though!

There are no programs in start menu, only shortcuts. And upon reset those shortcuts will reappear but without their icons (which sucks.. how do you get them back?) Or am i wrong here?

When I move the animated wallpapers to storage card and then try to choose one of them as background the pic ´shows up at the home screen, but it is not animated anymore
Can anyone confirm this, please ?

How to change Ringtone Directory?

Hey,
is there any chance to change the ringe tone directory? I already read some threads. But changing directory in regedit HKCU\controlpanel\soundcategories\ring did not work
I aslo read that i might not be possible to change rings directory to SD-Card because of insufficient access speed to card... Is that right?
Thanks for update...
Anybody?
Thx...

What's the purpose of changing the default ringtones directory? You can still put your ringtones wherever you like and select them with File Explorer....
I have set in registry to point to my storage card.
HKCU\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\Ring
Directory = \Storage Card\Rings
where "Rings" is a sub folder inside my Storage Card.

I have tried to make the change but it seems not to work.
Some suggestion?

yes,he can do this by file explorer, but when i select an mp3(for ex.) it copy that to rom of device, (without MMC it will work)...this will populate the memory
Well, it seems that WM6 can see ringtones in root of storage card so there's no need for any registry tricks (it doesn't work either) just copy all your ringtones there and select it from Sound&Notification option in Settings...
I'd advise not putting ringtones into a Storage Card. Most of the time it will be OK, but sometimes, the initialisation time of the card will mean the phone won't ring till after the call gets transferred to VM.
MP3 and WMA ringtones need the initialise the WMP kernel to play, which adds to the time taken to activate.
Just copy the ringtone you need to \Storage Card\My Documents
works fine to my wm6.
thanks.
You can also create a folder on the storage card called 'My Ringtones' and it works
10X maxxtech,
its work!
The other trick is to shorten the mp3 down to about 15 to 20 seconds of the actual part of the song etc you want.
This keeps the file size right down.
sorry to bring back a really old thread, but i figured its better than creating a new one...
I havea question, I added ringers of *.wma's to my \windows directory, but when I go to Sounds & Notifications, I dont see any of my added ringtones, am I doing something wrong here?
In the Registry, the location for rings states the "\Windows\" directory...
nobody!?!?!
sorry, double post!

Location of tsk themes???

Hi,just setting up my M700 and need to transfer my themes over.Usually do this by just restoring from sprite backup. However this time I did a complete clean install. Problem is I cant find the normally present themes folder so as for them to appear in the today menu. Usually its in the windows folder but I cant find it.Where can I put them oe where is it located (the're a lot of them in a folder I created called themes) so as to be visable to the device ie usable/selectable as today backscreens? Thanx all.
The .tsk files should be stored in \windows
When you say that you can't see it, do you mean that you can't see \windows in the explorer on your PC when the phone is connected via ActiveSync?
If this is the case, then it might be due to the fact that the \windows folder is hidden and the explorer on your PC is not showing hidden files and folders.
Try also in My Documents.
Thanx for the reply, unfortunately didnt work
@Its : I can see the windows folder in both my trinity and pc
@MacGuy2006 : Have looked in my documents to no avail
Perhaps another way of posing the question would be how or where do I put additional themes so i can use them. I would rather not have them just put in like that in the windows or whatever folder as I'd like to keep them tidy and organised in their own sub-folder called themes. That way I can edit/remove/add them easily. What pathway or tweak if possible could I use to run them off the storage card to save on space?
Thanx again.

You can put the tsk files in the ROOT directory "/" of your miniSD card and WM5 will find them. I do this to save storage on my phone.

ok thanx matterhorn. May have to do that as its proving a pain.Just that I have more than enough space on the trinity itself.just cant get them to be seen
I download the zipped up tsk file to the storage card.
When I upzip it (by double clicking on the new icon shown in my storage card it gives the options of where you want to send it). I send it to the "my dococuments" on my phone. Then when you go into "settings", then "today" screen you'll have a choice of all your new tsk files added to the original ones.

[Q] Default TF3D wallpaper folder

Hi,
does anyone know how to change the default TF3D wallpaper folder or at least, how to create a shortcut in this folder that link my pics folder in Memory Card ?
i had looked for many post but found nothing ...
if someone know how to do that, he will be my god
Thank in advance.
Someone can help ?
I don't understand why you'd need it??
My pics are in my memory card and each time i want to change the wallpaper i have to browse to this folder ...
If i could change the default folder to my folder in memory card, it will more easy and faster.
Anyone got any ideas on this? I can understand the requirement.
I would just make a standard folder shortcut from the SD card to My Pictures.
I got the same problem and what I did was make a "\Storage card\DCIM\Wallpaper" folder. Put all my wallpapers there and when in TF3D I go to settings->wallpaper, I only need to change to storage card from the dropdown menu, and then I got listed all my folders with my pictures.I Just click on "wallpapers" and choose one

[Q] How to remove an icon of a deleted program from 'list of programs'

I installed Sashimi some time ago but as it was a bit too complex for me I deleted it. However in the program list it still shows. How can I delete it from there?
thanks
The icons for your programs are held inside the windows folder on your internal memory, you need to open up file explorer on your phone and go to \Windows\Start Menu this folder is the icons that are on your start menu and the icons on your programs page are in
\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\
just delete the uninstalled applications icon from this folder and its done, you can also organise your icons into easy folders like "Internet, Media, Tools, GPS...etc".
Hope this helps you

A bit off topic, but as jab1a said above this is very useful as you can add Category Folders in Start Menu. Name them like: Web, Travel, Utilities, System and Media. Copy relevant shortcuts from you 'Programs' folder in your 'Start Menu' folder to each of these new folders.
You will need to use a 3rd party file explorer to unhide system files and rom files to see the pre-installed icons to copy them to your folders. These icons are '.ink' shortcuts. Also copy the entire 'Games' folder and 'Office' folder from your 'Programs' folder direct to your 'Start Menu' folder.
Finally uncheck all checked boxes in Menus in Settings page. This will allow all 9 folders to show in your Start menu on your home page, where you can access specific apps much quicker. Remember each time you install or remove a program/game, you have to either copy the new 'ink' icon to your category folder or delete it.
thanks a lot - very useful
Thanks for the help with that!
I had the same problem with a game and the icon was still there and annoying me!!
Thanks very much!
Thanks from me too, had three dead icons i had tried over and over again to get rid off! This worked a treat!

opera memory problem

good day
can someone tell me how to move the cahe folder of opera browser from the phone memory to the card memory i have an hd blackston wm 6.1
thanks
Hi there,
you can try the following (sourced from mobilitysite.com):
Move data and cache around to save memory
By default Opera installed a bunch of files and keeps cache in precious application data space (RAM). At least with the WM2003se version. By moving all of these files to a CF Card or SD memory stick you free up valuable RAM.
1) Edit the "Opera.ini" file located in "\Application Data\Opera"
2) Go to the "[User Prefs]" group
3) Change "Opera Directory=\Application Data\Opera" to a location that you would prefer such as "\cf card\opera"
4) Change "Help Directory=\Application Data\Opera\Help" to a location that you would prefer such as "\cf card\opera\help"
5) Move the following files and folders to the location that you specified above:
cach4 (folder)
help (folder)
imgcss (folder)
startpage (folder)
styles (folder)
chartables.bin
cookies4.dat
global.dat
opcacrt6.dat
opera.dir
oprand.dat
opssl6.dat
viger.dat
vlink4.dat
You are left with these files/folders in "\Application Data\Opera"
skin (folder)
opera6.adr
input.ini
opera.ini
english.lng

Try connecting via Activesync on your PC to locate the Opera.ini file, not through File Explorer, Resco Explorer, or Total Commander. If you still cannot find the file, on your PC, go to the Control Panel, Folder Options. In Folder Options on the View tab, under Hidden Files and folders, select the Show Hidden Files and Folders radio option, click OK.
1.Connect your phone to your computer, and connect to ActiveSync.
2.Open the ActiveSync window, then click the Explore Device button.
3.Navigate to \Application Data\Opera 9.x.
4.Find the opera.ini file (If you don't have file extensions enabled, it should just show as "opera".)
5.Copy the file to your desktop.
6.Open the file in a text editor, such as Notepad. Immediately do a File>Save as and rename the file to something other than opera.ini. This is your backup, just in case.
7.Now open the original opera.ini file. Scroll down to the [User Prefs] section and insert the following line: Cache Directory4=\Storage Card\operacache\. (Note: "operacache" can be renamed to anything you want.) Save and close the file.
8.Copy the new file back to your device, into the same \Application Data\Opera 9.x.
I'm not aware of any other ways to get around this.

Hi Abiis,
Yes. Unfortunately, this will affect the speed of your browser. I'm not saying you should try this, all I have done is posted a possible solution in reference to your query. I personally wouldn't recommend putting the cache on the storage card as this will result in slowing down the browser and possibly make it crash more often.
It is entirely up to you whether you try this but if you do not want a slow and laggy browser, then I would suggest you avoid doing this.
Good luck
