planning on buying leo for myself...but tvu mobile app found at http://pages.tvunetworks.com/labs/mobile.html is very important for me.
It skips lots of frames on touch HD and doesnt play smoothly....can anyone confirm the behaviour on Leo please....
thank you.
don't use it a lot but had it over a month now and I haven't experienced any visible frame drops.
OK, I loaded this but am having a few basic issues.
First, I only get 3G in my area. If I start it up a get a blank list with no channels.
If I connect to my broadband with Activsync, I get loads of channels but when picking one, I get about 3% buffered before it drops out. Do I have to start TCPIP first, or is that started automatically once there's sufficient buffer?
Hmmm... installed TCPMP and then TVUMobile.
When I start TVU I get the cannel list. I choose a channel, press play and get the message 'Currently Playing <channelnumber>'. But no buffering occurs and no playback starts at all.
After a while the message changes to read only 'Stopped'.
What am I missing?
Works fine for me... only tested over wifi.
After selecting a channel it should load up the TCPMP player and buffers there.
thank you everyone for replying. seems tvu play fine on the HD2...that makes me want it more....will be buying one soon after I sell my HD and get some money

It connects fine on 3G too. Wonder why you blank list on 3G
But 3G should already be connected before you start tvu otherwise it shows up blank list. Jus may be update weather or something before starting tvu.
after selecting a channel it show currently playing...then buffering some%...then currently playing again and TCPMP pops up by itself and starts playing the stream.

may be the channel you are trying is offline. try channel 10001. it seems to be always online. gud 1 to test

OK - so my problem is evidently that TCPMP is not spawned and therefore no buffering occurs. Anyone got any ideas as to why this is?
TCPMP is installed first as the instructions say, then TVUMobile. Both are installed on Storage Card.
after TVU finishes buffering and displays currently playing ch no. then go to TCPMP and do open URL and type http://127.0.0.1:8901
May be this will help...give it a shot...
for me it buffers in TVU, then opens TCPMP.....not the other way around as stated above.
+1 on that.
I got it to work over WiFi at home, then on "H" connection while I was in Cambridge this afternoon.
It either buffers, fails and gives up, or if the channel isn't available it says stopped, or it buffers in TVU and then opens TCPIP once it's ready. DW-TV seems to work all the time.... as does Sky News although the frame rate for Sky isn't as good as DW.
Nice piece of work though. I wonder what it's doing to my phonebill....
finally got it to work...
I had the same issue that TVU was working on WiFi but not on my mobile network. Here was what I did to make it work:
1. Make sure you have TCPMP installed and TVU player is NOT open in the background (verify from Task Manager)
2. Manually turn on Data Connection (or Microsoft Direct Push) in Comm Manager
3. Open up TVU player
For me, it started working somehow. It got the channel list and played the channels flawlessly. After that I don't even need to manually turn on data connection (it would be automatically turned on when TVU is opened).
Make sure you have the correct file association for the
wvc1 codec in TCPMP checked or you will get an error. Worked fine on H for me on T9193 AT&T.

i was thinking of a getting a shift as i am desperate to be able to play p2p streams via my hsdpa connection , so i can watch LIVE football on my AMEO from sopcast and other p2p streaming tv progs.
This morning I finally CRACKED it! and am now watching
Full screen SOPCAST TV on my AMEO
This means I can watch literally EVERY FOOTBALL match ANYWHERE on my AMEO for FREE!
this may be old news but im amazed.
if you want to know how i will post details
watching football for a bit to get it work is cooooooool...
tell me more!!!!!
dont beat around the bush c'mon hit us with the details!
okay heres how its done
First u must have an unlimited HSDPA account or you are gonna spend loads of dosh
progs needed for full control fom anywhere
Logmein - free version (pc remote control app)
VLC player (pc app)
Sopcast 1.1.2 (pc App)
TCPMP 0.81 (its the only version that plays video great for me, u may prefer other versions)
obviously you need BB connection on your home pc
1. install logmein and create an account you can then log into your pc remotely (change resolution to 640X480)
and you can see the whole of your screen on your athena/ameo.htc7500 etc
install all of the above apps
2.In your Ameo make sure that TCPMP is your choice for all video types i.e. wmv playback etc so it auto runs any video
3. open media player , select open URL and under network options select wifi/Lan (1.0mbps or faster) and tick detect connection speed and then close
4. start sopcast on your pc and get a channel going in the standalone player not the web based player
5.start VLC
6. once the channel has started right click on the player screen and select properties
7. highlight and copy the location http://xxxxxxxxxx etc
8. click File- open network stream on vlc player
9.select HTTP/HHTPS/FTP/MMS and paste the location into the URL box
10. the stream should now start to play in vlc (prob quicker than sopcast!)
11.click file again on VLC and select WIZARD
12. make sure stream to network is slected and click next
13.select Existing play item and highlight the location name in the box and click next
14.Select HTTP and leave the box below blank press next
15.Leave on ASF and click next
16. type 1 or 2 or leave blank it may or may not matter
17.now click finish
VLC player should shrink and in the bottom box it should have a timer that doesnt move and say transcoding
click view and check messages if its BLANK your in business.
Now open up internet explorer in your ameo
and type
mms://your pc's ip address:8080 press go
TCPMP player should automatically start and start playing the stream.
If you are in portrait mode when you hear some sound press the button to change to landscape and TCPMP should be playing back whatever you Channel you selected.
VOILA!
Logmein like all remote software allows you to set this all up from your PC remotely
have fun FOOTY HERE I COME!!
Can anyone confirm that this works?
Also, is it better/worse than a Slinbox type config, aside from the advantage of not requiring a separate cable/tv box?

An easier way to do this is (taken from the Orb website not my work and it works great is)
I managed to get SopCast and pplive streaming on my cell through Orb. It's probably similar with the other p2p streaming softwares.
'Here's how to do it:
1. Open SopCast on a channel.
2. Add the Custom Channel in Orb. For that, go the the TV application, select the Internet TV/favorite channels menu, and click the Add Custom action next to the play button. Enter SopCast for the name and http://127.0.0.1:8902/tv.asf for the URL (this URL may be different for you if you changed the default ports options in SopCast)
3. You can now stream this channel via Orb from the Internet TV menu.
With pplive, the URL to add depends on the channel you select, to find it, click on the "open in external Windows Media Player icon" once the channel play, and look at the URL of the playing item, it will look like http://127.0.0.1:8888 '
it does pause now and then but you can get a good long watch much of the time depending on the channel
this is down to the way TCPMP player handles streams more than the ORB software

Question for spacecat, or anyone else who can help:
I have an ameo too, and have tried the two ways that you have mentioned of viewing sopcast i.e. through VLC and ORB. Have found the following:
1) via ORB: Managed to get the stream to the ameo displayed via TCPMP but the video was very choppy and frankly unwatchable (any particular settings I should be aware of?)
2) via VLC: Keep getting the error mms: protocol not supported (do I need a particular plugin for TCPMP?)
Which option gives better quality of steam?
Thanks in advance

you need the WM5 WMV9 codecs the WM6 codecs you currently have do not work properly !
basically unzip the attached files and bung em in your windows folder !
oh and if your stationary you can get away with your ORB server uploading at 320K or 400k max but 400 might have issues, if you are on the move (train for example) 160K is about your limit but experiment, and be mindful of your home broadbands max up speed, im on virgin 20Mb (down) so my max upload speed is 768K
Tip: Make BBC Iplayer work on your Windows Mobile phone (info found elsewhere)
The BBC’s iPlayer service has been rolling out and supporting more and more smartphones, but as they do it on a device by device basis that has left the varied ecosystem of Windows Mobile at a distinct disadvantage.
Fortunately we have more control than most over our devices, and the following hack will allow the video streaming service to work on any device.
You need to change the user agent in Opera Mobile to spoof the Samsung Omnia, the only supported Windows Mobile phone.
The instructions are as follow:
Run Opera
In the address bar enter opera:config (no http://)
Scroll down to User Prefs and click
Scroll down to Custom User-Agent and at the end of the pre-filled text add sgh-i900
Scroll down some more and press Save. You will get a prompt which suggests you may need to reset the phone, but for this you don’t.
Check you have HTC Streaming Media Installed - If you do point your browser to http://www.bbc.co.uk/mobile/iplayer/ and enjoy. The video opens in HTC Streaming Player on HTC smartphones.
Thanks a lot edna.road, just tried it and it works perfectly
I saw this aswell, here - http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=1794
Just flashed to Dutty's V4 so going to try it when i get it back on
Tried this before christmas, but I prefer watching Iplayer through Skyfire. The latest beta works just as good. You can watch any flv site through it such as youtube etc so
The iplayer now works with the HTC Touch HD and looks great, is that getting a higher quality stream than the version for the sgh-900i?
I have tried using the same user agent as the HD
‘HTC Touch HD T8282 Opera/9.50 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en)' on my standard HTC Diamond but get the message device not supported.
How is the iplayer webpage seeing the difference between my Diamond and a HTC Touch HD?
I have got the BBCi Player page to work in opera but when I click on a video it switches to streaming media then sits on buffering 0% then says can't find network!
This is on my work wifi though will try again when I am at home.
Works for me....
It works fine for me, though only at home via WiFi. Can't get it working via 3G, but may be it's not designed to?
Yeah If I have wifi turned off it asks to turn it on, but I only get GPRS or Edge at work, It may work On HSDPA

lol exactly!
I have got this to work with HSDPA, it streams pretty well.
Unfortunately the method is far from perfect.
After doing the above fix, connect to wifi and find the stream you want.
Start it playing and then pause, go back to comm manager, turn wifi off and phone on, it should continue streaming fine.
Not ideal though I know.
This suggests that it's the beeb blocking it rather than the carrier. Hmmm.
("Hmmm" was just to make me sound wise - I have no fracking clue what to do next)
Are there any WM phones where it's known to work over the air?
BBC now reports native support HTC Touch HD, over wifi+3G. Does anyone have the User Agent for the HD, as would like to try it on my Diamond
http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/help/about_iplayer/mobile_phone
hmmn still only wifi for us diamond users on orange it seems, this is taken from theabove link check paragraph 3:-
What each heading means
Download TV programmes over wifi to watch later without needing an internet connection. If you download a programme, you can watch or listen to it for 7 days. Devices that don't currently support the digital rights management (DRM) system that we use for BBC iPlayer cannot download programmes to watch or listen to later.
Watching TV programmes while connected to the internet over a wifi connection.
Watching TV programmes while connected to the internet over a 3G connection - *only available on 3 and Vodafone networks at present.
Radio - listen again or listen live to programmes while connected to the internet.
Sideload - transfer a programme from your PC to your mobile device to play without needing an internet connection.
Good tip but I'd prefer it to work through HSDPA. Any chance of this happening soon?
Hi guys
quick question
has anybody managed to get the X1 work with streaming sites that link to files placed on youku? it doesnt seem to work for me at all ... the same is true for sports streaming. Plus, I downloaded the TVu winmobile player but it doesnt seem to work at all. If I try to follow a tvu link I get an error message, if I just start tvu and select a channel I can see it buffering, but once it reaches 100% nothings happens.
any ideas? are there winmobile versions of other known streaming apps like sopcast or tv ants?
thanks for you help guys
Hi,
I managed to access the shared folders on my desktop with resco explorer. I wanted to see if i could stream movies. On my previous device (Kaiser) there was a lot buffering & stuttering so i hoped the TouchHD would handle things better, but in fact it's worse. Windows media player says "cant play file" (for avi) and streaming mp3 is terribly slow. Coreplayer doesnt know how to find files when launched from resco explorer same goes for htc videoplayer.
Does anyone have a tip to get a decent stream? My wifi network is fast enough and the touch hd is perfectly capable of playing movies from the sd card so it should be possible, theoratically...?
Thanks in advance.
I just used the network cab (sorry in a hurry or would find the thread), browse to the file, and click on it, having set it to open automatically in CorePlayer. Results: Coreplayer loads and starts playing the file (and it's just able to keep up, through one thick wall
Although if people have better suggestions/settings, please share!
Use VideoLAN streaming to resize and reduce the bitrate on the fly. http://www.videolan.org/doc/streaming-howto/en/streaming-howto-en.html
Personally I still use Orb as mentioned here:

+1 for ORB
It'll also do TV if you have a tuner in your host PC.
It'll automatically set the stream bitrate depending on your connection speed, so streaming over 3G/HSPDA should also be possible depending on your provider.

Yeah the TV bit will take a bit of configuring but it's nothing too complicated. I have it installed on my media centre and it's quite clever in the fact that if media centre is using all the tuners it will even give you the option to shut down media centre remotly so you can watch telly from anywhere.
Mediacentre does not need to be shut down this way to watch/listen to/read any other files on the host though.
4 years running Orb with no issues.
Opera browser seems to struggle a bit so I've created an 'Orb.lnk' file on my start menu that calls Pocket Internet Explorer for loading Orb without changing the default PIE homepage.....I've even got an icon assigned to it thanks to SKTools Shortcut Manager and a .dll I created using GConvert 5.0.
(Also see this thread to edit menu icons)
EDIT: forgot to mention that they've now implemented another option to power on the PC remotely (currently via another download provided by Mycast on the Orb site).
But why is it so difficult for the device to stream over wifi while it can pay fine from the card? The speed cant be the issue.

I myself only have a cheap standard G wireless router and obviously experience serious playback issues trying to stream the original files without converting them to another format first....it can take up to 20 mins to start playing.
..however....if you stream the file(s) via VLC, ORB or something similar the stream is compressed better and playback begins almost instantly...and it also saves converting all your files prior to watching them.
Generally speaking....unless you have a N or N+ router then you will certainly get streaming problems with larger video files.
Also....another thing to note is that unless you've enabled it the wireless in the Touch HD (Blackstone) only works on Wireless B not G as standard.
There is a .CAB to enable wireless G or you can use HD Tweak to do it.

Thanks. I already enabled it using hd tweak and my router is a wireless N so streaming should be no problem at all. I still believe it's a flaw of the Touch HD (and older htc devices) somehow that it's unable to stream files properly.

It's worth trying to re-assign the file types to coreplayer with another application so that Core is used instead of the standard software. You can set more buffering options in Coreplayer than most other appliactions.

The router might be N but the other thing to bear in mind is that the HD is only Standard G so won't benefit from N speeds only the signal range.
How large are the files you're trying to stream? I just streamed a 350mb 1 hour recorded video straight from my mediabox to my HD by browsing to the file in Total Commander and opening it with Coreplayer with very little stuttering....took a long time to buffer the first part though has to be said I'll be sticking to using Orb for most of my streaming.
Also, what Radio do you have installed? As different Radio Roms (if thats the correct term!?) will perform differently, sometimes depending on where you are and what handset you're using. I use 1.14.xx and the only issue I have with it is the extra heat it generates.

i am running mirri's 6.5 manila 2.5 rom at the moment, but previous roms dealed with streaming the same way. I still believe the wifi on the hd is fast enough to stream a divx movie (650mb). I just downloaded a 9 mb pdf file to my phone and it was there in seconds! Also transferrings mp3s from my hd to my hd over wifi is quite fast.
But to be honest i cant tell how it streams movies really as long as i cant get coreplayer to play network files. The error i get is: File not found!\Network\my dir name
i tried it with Total Commander which also gives me a file not found error in coreplayer
any suggestions?

It's not the ROM thats the issue, what radio are you using?
The RADIO is not generally built into the ROM's Miri distributes and you'll need to do any Radio changes yourself.
As stated before I use 1.14.xx with the rilphone.dll and my HD does stream the files directly but it takes ages to start playing without any prior conversion, sometimes up to 20 mins with the rare occasion where I get a 'buffer overflow' error from Coreplayer.
my radio is 1.13.25.24
hmm. Mine is working fine from Network drive (NAS) with coreplayer, and resco explorer.
buffers very little in beginning, buffering set to microdrive mode. and set little higher buffer value.
no stutters unless going too far from hotspot.

Never tried that one myself, it might be worth experimenting with others.
I would try to ask the advice of someone in the ROM development area....they do a lot of tweaking there with Radios as well as ROMs.
Maybe even Tunppi can help somehow. What Radio do you use Tunppi?

Excellent information! Thanks everyone!
Sorry for the noobish question but my problem is as follows....
I know the BBC Iplayer site states the HD2 is not compatable and either way I thought I'd put some downloaded programmes on my phone to watch.
So I downloaded them as 'portable device download' from the iplayer site to my PC and then tried to drop them onto the card to watch. They're WMV files. But I get an error message stating "the device has either stopped responding or has been disconected".....not sure what I'm doing wrong and would be glad of some advice. All I'm trying to do is copy and paste them over to the phone card.
Anyone?
Can't explain that I'm afraid but I did read a while back that the files need to be synched through Windows Media Player and in the past that the file needs to pass a drm check before it will play - someone wrote even longer back that starting to play the fie on the PC so it checks drm, then moving it worked.
Do you get that message when moving anything else to your sd card?

This is a problem to do with transferring large files rather than the HD2's ability to play the WMV files. Try connecting the HD2 in Disk Drive mode - it worked for me.
You might want to try searching this site for an application called myplayer - it makes accessing iPlayer a lot less painful and allows higher-quality downloads.

TCPMP is more likely to be stable (i.e. not crash or lock up the phone) in GDI or Raw Framebuffer mode. So is CorePlayer, come to that.
If TCPMP is crashing before it even lets get you into the menu, that may be because it's trying to display the opening frame of the video that you previously told it to play, and doing that in DirectDraw mode. You can get around that by temporarily moving or renaming whichever file it's trying to display.
I have myPlayer and Coreplayer.
With myPlayer you get the latest viewable content ... but can search for anything. If you have the iPlayer website open that may be easier to search.
Once you've found what you want, just use myPlayer to download over wireless to your device (you can also stream for instant playback (even over 3g).
myPlayer has a view downloads screen with all the programmes you've downloaded. You select one, say view now ... it launches Coreplayer ... and it plays perfectly.
Never had a problem. This is infact one of the most amazingly together capabilities of the HD2 with this huge screen. In the evening I choose something to watch on the train on the way to the city the next day ... love it.

This may not solve your problem but you can use the BBC iPlayer on the HD2 with a simple change of settings. See point number 36 in the *Leo Hints & Tips* - Things you may not have known.

I'd rather download the videos than stream them, so I don't have to worry about signal strength while I'm watching stuff...

OK. I tried moving the file, but it's still crashing. I'll uninstall it again, later, and delete any settings that are left behind in the registry. And when I get TCPMP working again, I'll give those other modes a go.
Having got iplayer downloads to play on my HD2 having put them on the sd card I'm now having some playback problems.
Basically the quality of the picture and the sound is fine in principal but upon playback on WMP the programme pauses or sticks every second or so. The pause is only for a fraction of a second, just enough for the picture to momentarily catch or stick before continuing. I could live with this but at the same time the sound is also distorted making programmes unwatchable. If downloaded to my PC the same programmes are fine, it's not the download itself it's just once on the phone thats the problem.
Tried various programmes, all the same. Tried downloading direct from iplayer site to the card, still occurs.
Could this be a card problem. It's a sandisk 8Gb SDHC card. Any ideas?
I configured Opera to try direct streaming from iPlayer ... and it worked fine althought he picture was a little pixelated.
I know CorePlayer is a cost ... but if iPlayer is important to you, the combination of myPlayer and Coreplayer for iPlayer (and other channels) is incredibly simply ... live streaming is better quality ... and the download manager is completely seemless. Quality of downloaded video is genuinely perfect ... as good as anything at high bit rates I have on my Archos AV5100.
All I can say is that if you can stretch to Coreplayer ... I'd go with myPlayer.
Going through the website for either streaming or download (even on a PC) is so much more clunky.

I haven't tried this on an HD2, but on my TP2 you can quite good results from myplayer without having to buy CorePlayer; I use Streaming Media Player for streaming, and TCPMP to play the .mov downloads.
