Contacts problem - HD2 General

Well it is not really a problem per say but an irritation.
Can anyone port the touchflo contacts back to the leo. it was nice to be able to scroll rolodex-like through the photographs to your favorite contacts.
All these features were what drew me to the manila interface of HTC in the first place.
The current contact photos are too big and just like any other phone contacts software. Htc sence should stand out and parade all of its capabilities, and whats the point of having such a powerful phone if you cannot show off and use all of its power.
further more the music and photos have it so why not the contacts???

+1 from me.
I preferred the old TouchFlo style favourite contacts list. You could add as many as you like as well (I believe). I've had to be choosy as to who goes on the people as there's not enough there for me.

Damnit...
I Was searching and hoping for a way to increase the numbers of Fav contacs.. Tough luck..

+1, You are absolutely right. Can someone, at least, come up with a tweak to add more favorite contacts, like the 20 shortcuts tweak for the home screen...

Full Screen Photo Caller ID !?!

Hey, I trying to find an app that will display a full screen photo when someone calls.
I know about Photo Contacts from PocketX, but it's too much other sh*t bundled in with it that screws up my phone!
All I want is a small app that will display a full screen photo of that contact when they call...
Any ideas, anyone ?!?
As far as i know photo contacts pro works good for me!
yeah, I'm sure it's a good prog, but I don't want any other functionality other than full screen photos. I'm not interested in extended ringtones, speed dialling, categorisation by groups..etc !

SAME THING FOR ME TOO. I HAD THAT ON FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS. IT WAS A LITTLE TOO MUCH FOR ME.
I've got to say Photo Contacts Pro all day long is the application for me.
Although I just don't like the way that I have to manually match the photos I'm using up with my Outlook address book.
You would have thought that M$ would have made it's contact pictures bigger in WM6. Nope. Still itty bitty small.
Did you try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=314703 ?
You can also try Inesoft Address Book.

Hi -
I have read that the new Diamond2 will have better contactpictures. Is there a way to increase the quality on the Touch HD ?

You have to use HTC album of the TF3D to assign your image has your contact and the quality will be very cool

This trick however does not work with newer Manila 2 from Topaz, since you get a crop feature that degrades the photo quality.
However, if you use Facebook accounts to link the photos, they will look good. The down side is you can't choose the photo - it has to be the one the person is using on his / hers Facebook profile.
Hmmm.... It dosent get any better at all :-(

You can choose from the users entire home page picture folder. So any of the photos they have ever used for their profile.
Here is the review in danish with the new Diamond2 - look where there is a picture of the contacts, it is much better quality then i can get on HD.

Not sure if you mean the same thing, but contact pictures on my HD were terrible quality when I loaded JPEGs from my PC, synch'd, and then assigned them to the relevant contact. But then I tried the same with as PNG format and contacts pictures are perfect.

This is true. In addition to above have to say do not assign image from contact list, in that case picture quality is really poor.
I don't know what is the situation with png format.
I had the same issue. If you go to contacts and select change/add picture they show up terrible. If you go your photos and the select save as contact they come out good oops didnt notice someone already answered this
.
I had the same problem with the diamond touch. The option for that phone was to make the jpeg file in a different size.
if you have a picture that is 1200X800 or something you must increase it but i dont know the size for the HD

Looking for good Contacts app

Right i have been looking for a good contacts app for ages to replace the stock one, i have tried many the most recent Inesoft Phone Trial and Yota Contacts but are really what im looking for but Inesoft Phone has come close - except that the photos for contacts look too blurred and i cant find a way of fixing it. well i was wondering what Contacts apps you people use and would you recommend them?
For quick and smooth contact management with low memory occupation: iContact Avian
Downsides : not UC compatible
For features and customisation : PocketCM. It's also a pretty good sms replacement app. Just a bit jerky on old devices and memory hungry.
thanx i will give them both a look, any other options?
Resco Contact Manager is my favorite app

Recommend SEARCH and TRIAL, or do you want to have the others looking for you ?
i have searched, i tried LOADS: Resco Contacts - couldnt get my contacts to show even though they were on phone, icontacts didnt really like. and i just want to see what other people use just in case i missed one
i use Iconsoft PhonEx as my contact manager and dialer. very pretty, easy to use just turns in to a ram whore after a few phone calls. hoping the developer fixes this problem but still a nice app.
i'm using vito funcontact and vito sms-chat.... both integrate well to replace the default contacts and sms interface.
I can really recommend Resco Contact Manager 2nd Edition... Beatiful and fluid UI with lots of nice features, including threaded SMS, linking contacts to facebook lets you grab info & contact pics directly from facebook and everything is very fingerfriendly.
Also using Iconsoft PhonEx, it's just awesome.

HTC Sense must support custom/homebrew widgets!!!

Imagine...
HTC Sense with your own widgets.
HTC sense already includes the following:
Home, SMS, Mail, Weather, Twitter, Footprints, Settings, and more.
But what if they would finally made it possible to let us make our own widgets?
This would seriously beat the crap our every other phone!
We would have:
Radio, ebay, MusicID, Newspapers, webcam view, translator and alot more.
Or a simple "Applications" Tab, where we find another bar with more tabs for putting apps into "folders"(tabs).
Its real sad htc have not made a SDK, or other kind of function to create our own tabs.
I personally think HTC sense is the best UI out there. the best i have seen on any mobile phone, but lacks the ability to customize it ourselfs.
Is it possible to hack the Sense UI to make this possible? (if someone can do this im happy to donate about 20 dollars, and i think more people are)
If not, we should make a large email, or online voting system to anyways draw the attention of HTC as a large company.
And yes, i know the other UI's available for windows mobile. But HTC sense is just....quietly brilliant
it seems to be possible to add new bars to the sense / touch flo.
as you can see when you use the manila tv player!
i think people should just start designing their apps for it, and maybe some experienced dev. could give an short tut how to find what you need to fasten the development

Okay, I'll make it a simple choice for you then.
No, you cannot currently add your own tabs to the Sense UI. It may become possible in the future, but it is highly unlikely, and the most likely event is that you get 1 or 2 additions to the tabs, but not something that you specifically want.
If you want either your iPhone or customizable tabs on the HD2, stick with your iPhone.

i was just saying my choice would be easy if this was already possible.

Personally, I don't have any interest in this happening. Since I can have lots of apps running at the same time and flick between them with a couple of clicks, it's actually easier to do that than it would be to put everything on the Sense UI.
Also, the Start menu is always 1 simple button click away, and that has everything on the phone listed.
I just don't think that this is a big deal.
It is possible, there's just no SDK, so it is complicated. If you want an SDK, please turn to HTC.
Personally, I don't use Sense at all, so I would not want that people develop pages for Sense instead of real WM applications.
I use the WM Default interface and TaskFacade to switch between open programs, which is much more convenient than scrolling through HTC Sense tabs, at least for me.
And by the way, if you need a reason to switch to the HD2, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsQHRtUtW0c&feature=player_embedded
That alone is enough of a reason to switch.

well as i said i like the sense feel, theme and Gui the most of all things i have tried on all phones.
And im not talking about task switching here but improving htc sense by adding custom tabs.
i like the windows mobile default interface for task switching, but i will use HTC sense for launching a app, and watching the weather, twitter, newspapers, TV, and many stuff like that, if it was possible.
I found Max Manilla makes customizing the HTC sense possible a bit, but not completly. Il try contacting him but i think its gonna be hard to implent.
As I said, you can add your own tabs, there's just no SDK to make it easy.
Look at stuff like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=508102
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=563150
And I really don't see any advantage in scrolling through Manila tabs instead of going to the start menu (e.g. to open the news application).
I think showaco is someone who knows how to make Manila pages.

It would be so great to have one page where all your programs were. Where you could organize them in folders and launch widgets from. We totally need to make this happen.
Oh wait, anyone ever hear of THE START MENU? It's faster than sliding to a Manila tab and has more functionality in one location.

And it doesnt fit with the design. Yes, i care about beauty and design.
Starting a program is definately not the same, as if the information you r lookin for was directly shown in a sense tab. Its not just the look but also the feeling, that it is somehow integrated in your home screen and you dont have to start a program for that (always hated the app-binded UI on iphone). But the major factor is, that sense-functionalities might be connected with each other (p.ex. calendar and home-tab, footprints and album), which has not been done too well yet .
In my opinion it would for example just be nice to have a newspaper-tab where you can slide through different newspapers (like the accounts in email-tab) with a little overview of whats inside today, tap to chose one and scroll through the articles, be notified if theres somethin you are interested in and so on...
But i also have to state, that i am already quite happy with sense as it is and that wishes like these might be too far away...
I hope many new tabs will be created in the future.
I just need one more tab that list current running programs. So i don't have to press any buttons.

meh thats where i want to use the normal windows tak switcher for.
I´d like a tab with applications, that includes another bar with more tabs for categories.
Here's your solution... sort of: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=616415
That creates a Manila tab where you can add any standard Windows Mobile today screen plugins (like RSS readers etc.).

Saving facebook pictures

Hey all,
Just got a new htc hd2 and was pointed to these forums as a good place for all my hd2 needs. Still running stock rom as thought i'd follow advice and make sure the phone works before messing around with it.
What I think would be a very good feature is, after you've linked a contact on facebook, and you can open their online albums through contacts. To be able to select a picture and set it as their contact picture, or save the picture to albums so you can set it as contact picture manually, or both. It may be that i'm being very stupid and this function does exist. Or it may already exist on some of the cooked roms, however if not I think it would be a very sought after feature.
doesn't exist. there is a work around though. look for "shake and save".
start it, browse to the picture you want, shake the phone, screen shot saved to phone.
It really is a bizarrely absent feature, I was frustrated when I saw it wasn't an option.
I don't see why it would be. its not like they're your photos. on your pc you can't ight click and set as a contact photo. you haver to save it some method (the browsers save as option) then apply it as a contact photo yourself.
show me any other phone/software with that "feature" and il agree that it is absent in the hd2
'show me any other phone/software with that "feature" and il agree that it is absent in the hd2' - SPB mobile shell allows you to browse the user's facebook album and set it as your contact picture for them.
lol smart arse
I would say more the not being able to save the image is a very absent feature, but i'll give shake and save a go. The saving as contact photo was just a cool feature I thought could have been included given how good the rest of manila is.
I'm guessing SPB is a similar thing to manila, so not really an option. Seeing as i'm quite fond of manila.
Is the saving contact photo something that could be included in cooked roms in the future?

Hey guys.
just to let u know Resco Contact Manager can do that aswell. When u assign a contact with their FB profile, it gives u the option of which photo(from their album/profile) u want to set as the contact picture. its very good and finger friendly.
