Hey guys,
in the near past we have often seen applications with the nice look-and-feel of HTCs TouchFlo3D.
As a developer I wonder why there has been no release of a framework (especially for .NET) for this kind of UI. I think there are so many apps for the iPhone because it's so easy to write a good-looking and standardised interface.
I guess it would ease things up and we could increase the release of many cool programs for WM if we had controls such as the slider, buttons, captions, NumUpDown-fields, radiobuttons, lists etc from TF3D all together in a free and open framework.
Many xda-devs have written programs with this elements yet, so why didn't they throw them together to help other users?
That would be so great and I hope we'll see such a release in the future.
Please... Excuse my bad english! (;
Hi guys,
I thought it would be useful to have a thread where we can post examples of great UI Designs in Android Apps, for reference when developing apps.
Personally I think one of the better UI designs is the official twitter app.
Anyone else care to share some examples?

I wonder what the twitter app will look like after the twitter redesign was launched.

Eh, the layout is good but the whole red, black, and white embossed color scheme just doesn't suit me well. I can't quite remember the name of the app, but it was a sort of all in one note taking application, like it stored numbers, locations, notes, etc.. I'll try to dig up the name, because it had a very nice looking UI.
Need UI help?
If anyone needs UI design help please let me know, I'd love to help you! (Usually free as long as I get a little credit in the about )

Ok, so this is not only for Viper users, this is for everyone, on any ROM. Please don't post things like "working gps" because the devs can't do anything right now. But what features would you like in a ROM? ...This will give us an idea for updates... if something is needed by enough people, I'm sure everyon
e will incorporate it into their ROMs...
And the rest is up to you.....
I love the VIPERrom 3.0.3. Things about it- stability, speed (I think), custom launcher (zeam launcher). I'd like a cool notif bar. I'm currently using emotionless beast from Mystery. But the 3.0.3 was cool too. To each his own, but I like the colors and such in my themes. And lightweight (keep the bloatware to a minimum).
Keep up the good work Viper team. I tried Apocalypse 4.0.2c for a couple days but went back to trinity 3.0.3. Had a couple problems that I was too lazy to work through. All my fault. I'll go back to 4.0.2c soon.
I look for a rom that cuts as much crap out that I don't need and incorporates as much stuff that I do. This isn't always possible because of individual tastes, but some cookers are better(for me) than others. I also look at theming, which needs to look professional, for me to consider it.

A working gps
Seriously I'm looking for something fast, stable, functionality, good battery life. Obviously looks mean nothing to me. A small foot print on internal memory is good also

I dont know about everyone else but im tired of TWLauncher, Launcher pro, Zeam launcher, Launcher EX. I wish there was a stable, fast but Unique Launcher that has a layout, Transitions, icons different then what we are use too. Honestly i have no clue what "Unique" that im talking about but there are tons of genius minds in here that im sure will come up with some New and Different from what we are use to in all of these launchers that will give our Phone a NEW Look. Thanks alot Viper Team you all are awesome

+1 I would also like a unique launcher. Maybe something similar to Miui.

I want support for RFS. Seems almost everyone is making the switch to EXT4 but luckily there are a few that still support those of us using RFS! Other than that I like having Touchwiz stripped out. I always wanted it before but after using Midnight Rom I just don't want it anymore. I bought ADW EX and that's the way for me to go!
Although I'm not running ViperROM, I love the idea behind the viperstore. Regardless of what ROM thread you're in, you see people asking for AOSP lockscreens, themes, certain APK's, etc. I think that with the relatively small community of devoted developers for the epic, there could be a common repository for people to go to for their personalization needs.
Just food for thought. Keep up the good work on ViperROM!
Straight aosp.

I want my device to be classy with simple elegance. I dont want annoying boot sounds and shutdown sounds, or theming which advertises the name of the rom. I want a rom that is rock solid stable, ie no DK28. I want touchwiz ripped out and no launcher included. I should not have to uninstall anything from a fresh rom install, especially various launchers.
CIFS support for mounting network folders.
Increase network speeds on 3g, becaue data government killer just not doing it for me.

to control volume of both notifications and ringer at the same time with the rocker switch.

+1 for this.
In addition..
No Launcher (or a very unique one like what was mentioned earlier)
no sprint bloatware.
minimal memory footprint.
Great battery life.
Somehow increased speeds for the data cuz for me the governor killer isn't doing much either.
no annoying startup/shutdown sounds (could be muted)
Slick but professional theming.
No more bubble SMS
stock battery icon. (seems like all the circle ones ping the battery info too often and it kills my battery. Like dropping 25% overnight doing nothing with no widgets installed whatsoever.)
I'm tired of repackaged Roms that just have a different theme and maybe one or two things taken out or added in that I could do myself.
I like a clean slate rom like Naked Bonsai and add the themes and addons myself. I like Midnight just because they got rid of touchwiz. I wish ViperROM would not come with all the themes built in. Undervolting and unique features are nice as well.
So basically, I want clean and stable with themes belonging in the theme section and a nice bunch of addons. I honestly doubt we're gonna be having many unique Roms till kernel source comes out though

I agree about ViperROM theming. I would prefer more of a blank slate. But the developer is free to make their rom however they want. I just have to not complain and change it myself
I just want a stock rom. No custom launcher, no sprint apps, no touchwiz, just stock. Maybe overclocked to 1.2ghz, but stock and built in tethering support (doesn't have to wifi, I can deal with usb) cause paying extra for the same data is bull****.
You want a clean slate, wait till you see Frankenstien FROYO tomorrow night, its 93mb zipped right now,and I'm still working on it,but it is very stable from the start,I'm very excited to be releasing this...

I would like it to be easier to see what I'm getting before I download a new rom. Seems like there are a lot of cases where if you weren't using a rom from the start it's kinda hard to track down all it's features and what it's like.
ok heres the update to this rom.
superuser no longer fcs
used bamfs 1.6.3 framework in some areas, mine in others. credit to him for the animations and other smoothness thats been added. credit to bgill for the location icon removal. credit to adrynalyne for the wake on volume key press, credit to jcase for radio settings in settings. thanks to dsb and dhemke17 for general support and issues i had as well as all the other posts and developers.
rooted
deodexed
zipaligned
tweaks to system and build.prop
STOCK kernal. choose which you prefer. i use imoseyons
[!]removed a lot of the apps and widgets. call it debloat if you want, i made the /system/ as free as possible. no facebook twitter most widgets etc. removed some sounds, all live wallpapers, all vzw apps
its lightly themed. its mostly green with some blue; high res icons.
i took most of my icons form Darkslide 4.2 for the DroidX, the Radioactive Theme for the Droid X, Gingerbread icons, Icons from torrents pirated on the bay, i think Liberty 1.5 for the DX, and some personally altered ones. other than the personally altered ones i take no credit, and for those, i also want no credit. Go to droidforums or droidxforums to find those themes i mentioned.
i kept rosie and also added launcher pro as i prefer that.
in the future i plan on themeing the browser, messaging app, gmail, and settings to mesh with the theme more.
also, credit goes to my cat, Sophie, the chicken. had she not hid under the sofa for three days when i got her, i may never have came up with a name for her, or this rom
any issues, let me know. here or through a pm. same with tips, advice, etc.
i wiped cache and dalvick. it works great from what ive ran so far. battery is dependent on the kernal, but with this so stripped down, it should help as well
i give you, SofaChicken:

here you go. its an image i took from a google search and turned it green
new rom. def better than the last. check it out!
looks good, trying now. Thanks for the work! Would help if had mirror.
Where could I get the alternative battery meter that you use or others if you have them. Great job on this ROM ive been tweaking and playing around with my home launcher for a couple weeks so I appreciated the launcher Pro packaged in with it
Whoa my ROM is still getting hits! LOL.
Switch to gb man. I can't bring myself to cook up my own gb ROM bc I've already used bamf n I'll never beat that.
Just go into framework n pull the png files I used. I got the idea from an old dx ROM, darkslide. I took out n added a few details, but my ocd needs to see 1% increments now along w other cool features the new roms have.
Maybe it's time I do make another..
When you do, if you do I will definitely give it a shot. I stopped using gingerbread radios because for some reason they never lock onto GPS right. And I couldn't find a way to get Gingerbread from chewing up my battery so bad. Froyo roms are good for battery at least for me.
Hey guys.
So today, I am a proud owner of a new LG Nexus 4 after a lot of research. Unfortunately, I've never owned an Android phone, nor am I familiar at all with the Nexus 4's more intricate settings or may have over looked little useful trinkets and such. So for a completely new user (to both Android and N4), what are your best tips, configs and settings? Any must know shortcuts or advice? (I realize that there's a sticky for useful Android apps, but if there are any "must-haves" for the N4)
Thanks in advance for your advice guys.
explore man.. configs and settings are very personal things.. and what one person likes is vastly different from other person.. so develop your likes and dislikes in settings.. its not something you can copy from others..
For a start, I'd recommend syncing your contacts info on Gmail so that when you try out other roms wiping you don't need to restore one by one.
ROM wise, its always wise to use something close to stock, like Cataclysm.
Kernel wise, franco's kernel is always one of the many favourites of the N4 users, try it out too.
Above is for rooted users.
If you're not rooted, you're missing lots of fun.
Try out some games in the app store. And some cross platform chatting apps such as Whatsapp and Line, some handy GPS app like Waze, a decent movie player that plays everything like MX Video Player.
Explore! Try out some nice launchers out there, although GO Launcher is not for experienced XDA people, non-rooted users might find it sweet to customize. With 2GB ram and top-notch technologies in your hands, try out everything.
