SMS - graphical send icon - HD2 General

41. Enable Graphical Send Icon Button in HTC Messaging
To send a text message you need to hit the left softkey button. The following registry tweak adds a graphic send button above the paperclip button. It also changes the 'send' left soft key to a 'back' soft key.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\HTC\Manila\LSK_Send_Msg
Change from 1 to 0.
Can someone please explain me what this does?
Instead of "Send" you have "Back" in the bottom-left corner?
I am not sure I understand this...
Thanks

Well I dont have PPC right now, but it clearly states that it fives you new graphic button for sending SMS. And your old softkey changes to "back" instead. Thats about it right?

As you won't need to use the left soft key should you use this registry tweak, I don't suppose it matters what it is changed to...

Poosible to map start menu to a soft key?

I know you can map the start manu to any of the hard buttons but I would like to map it to one of the soft buttons under the screen.
I know how to map the soft buttons to any application but I'm not sure how the start menu is called.
In the "Buttons" setting at "2. Assign a program:" you have to scroll up the list to the entries in "<...>". Those are the various assignable system features. One of it is "<Start Menu>".
For instance I assigned "<Start Menu>" to the Voice Dialer button and
"<OK/Close>" to the Internet Explorer button - very handy....
I want to assign it to one of the soft keys, not one of the keys you can map in "buttos"
Hi everybody,
I made almost the same.
the pitty of this way, it's the hard it becomes to navigate with one hand.
The thing I try to changes is when I use the phone, to set up the arrow key to access to the "Call History" or the "Speed Dial numbers" like with the Blue Angel (QTEK9090).
Does somebody know how to do it?
I tried AEBPlus, which is a freeware app that allows you to map your harware buttons to up to launch up to 3 different apps each (one click for first app, 2 clicks for second, 3 clicks for third). BUT... its not yet designed for the Wizard, so it does not recognize the soft key buttons yet. It also does not recognize the Comms Button...
So when I installed, I mapped IE button to 1 click = "OK" and 2 clicks "IE" and the Messaging button as 1 click = "start" and 2 clicks = "Messaging"
For some reason it remapped my "Comms Button" to "IE" and as I cant see that button any more in "settings/buttons" I cannot change it back  But I have "Comms" set up as one of my "Start menu" items, so I can get to it via the button I mapped to the start menu.
I e-mailed the designer to see if he plans to update it for the Wizard. The wizard is included on his compatibility matrix, so he may be planning to. If he does that and includes the "soft key buttons" and the "comms button" we would be set.
Perhaps anyone else thats interested could e-mail him too and see if he will update it for a "donation" from each of us..? Its Alexander at : [email protected]

try this....
Just load Smartskey. It gives you a lot of secondary functions for soft keys and buttons. I really like it because it has default settings to open the start menu on a long press of the left softkey button, and to do an ok/close on a long press of the right softkey button. It can also manage OMAPClock overclocking functions, if you drop a copy of that app in the same folder as Smartskey.

press & hold bindings to HW buttons?

What i'd like to do is assign more than 1 binding to the outlook button.
Exactly the same as the "voice dial" one has as standard (press for voice dial, hold for voice memo)
What i want is (on the mail/outlook/text button) press to open outlook, hold to start new text message.
Is there a reg key to change to allow this dual use?
If not (and i'd rather not add more software to map buttons) what software will allow this? Multipress isn't really an option, as pressing the button again now will cycle through the different text settings (sms, mms, e-mail etc) and put you in whatever folder you were in last (inbox, outbox etc)
EDIT:
While i would still like to be able to do this, thanx to vijay555 who's phone tools 2 lets me start a blank sms from a today screen .lnk file
The only way to do it is using Vito Button mapper.
Button mapper supports macros as well.

Have you read the thread about putting VJSMS on the softkeys, to start an sms straight from that key..
I'll have another related release that you'll hopefully like, coming soon.

I'll search some more later and keep an eye on your site!
Vito Button Mapper works here, but after a soft reset I get a popup message saying a certificate is missing.
Also, after installation my backlight was turned off. Went to settings and restored it and all works fine now (also after a reset... only problem is the popup)
Vito Button Mapper screwed up my softkeys.
Only in the 'Today Screen' however thats were a couple of my most used buttons were.
Now they don't work and sometimes change?
I would urge you NOT TO USE if you want to use soft keys in Today screen.
Robin
Soft keys can be configurated in the app, that is why you lost them for now...
Reconfig them:
Start -> Settings -> Buttons
Configuration drop down -> Today
Top 2 entries: Left softkey & Right softkey
Well yours must be different to mine.
When I open buttons the only choices I have are for the 5 hardware buttons.
No other choices are available????????

Soft Key App

I installed this softkey app on both my Polaris and Nike and it works just fine. Unzip it in the windows folder, then it will appear under your settings menu, system tab. You'll have to do a soft reset once the keys are changed.
I think I snagged this from my Universal flashing days but it's stable on our units.
Sorry for m dumbness mate but what is a softkey? What does it do?
Those are the two keys at the bottom (standard: Calendar (left) and Contacts (right).
The WM keys, but software keys. So softkeys
With this program you are able to start another application with those keys instead of the standard calendar and contacts button.
I've heard of an app, that maps different actions to the keys, depending on how long you press the button.
For example short press of the right key brings you to the contacts, long press starts a new sms.
Does anybody know the name of the program?

Reassign (Hard)keys Home and Back

Hey guys,
is there a way to reassign the hardkeys home and back?
I also have an item "Buttons" in the settings but there is only one key defined: "Key 1 (Hold), Voicedial settings".
However, I can't find this button, where is it?
It's the first button i.e phone pickup, hold it and it will give you the voice dial
Key 1 is the dial key (far left).
You can reassign the back key with AE Button Plus. I'm not sure that you can remap home.
use AE Button Plus to reassign the keys, words great on my touch hd. I read somewhere that Home button is not supported due to different driver implemented by HTC
Thanks for your replies.
I'm aware of AE Button Plus but the interesting thing is the reassignment of the home key.
I wanna keep the back key as it is and assign an ok/close task to the home key because the end call button actually does the same thing as the home button namely go back to the today screen when you have a running application in foreground.
In AEB+ I have the following:
Button 1 (hold)
Windows Key
Enter/Action
Volume Up
Volume Down
Green Phone Button
Red Phone Button
Left Softkey
Right Softkey
Up Arrow
Down Arrow
Left Arrow
Right Arrow
I can access the volume up and down keys but which key is the back key?
I assume the green and red phone button is pickup and hangup key respectively?
Is there a way to access the power key at the top?

The back key is "Enter/Action".
It seems that the home key as well as the power key cannot be reassigned.
Back and home key can be reassigned on a window by window basis in the registry. Not particularly useful, but better than nothing.
V
What exactly needs to be done in the registry to reassign the home key?
Even if I have to enter a new registry key for any program window I might use it is worth the effort (at least for me).

I just want to update:
the back key is not the "Enter/Action" key. i have tried to edit this button and it didn't remap to the Back key.
If you go to File -> Add Button, and tap the Back key, it will recognize the key as button #405C. I have remapped it to "Close Active Application" and it worked.
i don't think u can reassign the Home key as AE Button Plus cannot access the Home key.
I was also unable to change the Home key in AEBplus.
Concerning the back key assignment with AEBplus, I was trying to assign something to the long press but unable to get it working. No problem for single press and double press.
Anyone has better luck?

Power Key
Here's the modified power key from Diamond but it can be used on HD.
When Power key on long-pressed, it will display the menu for choice. Tested.
Regards,
KCJ
just tested on Aeplus 2.6.6.1, the Back key = the Ok key, it can be remapped.
I have it set to:
Single press="Ok/Close"
Double press = S2U2
Long press=close active app
EDIT: Long press doesn't work... might try another method.
don't know if this works, but it is worth a try:
if you copy a shortcut to \Windows and name it "Short_Power.lnk" you can intercept the short power key press. at least that worked for me on my diamond.
you could try s.th. like "Short_Home.lnk" but that would intercept the "other home key" (which manages the cursor's position like end, up down, left, right, etc).
the magic would be to find the correct name of the key.
longpress back key (405C)
I know this is an old thread, but I haven't found yet a solution.
I'd like to be able to add longpress back key (405C) to the key menu on the windows config.
I've found the registry key that HTC uses to provide longpress send key, but I copied with no luck.
Anyone knows how to do it? vijay555 has said it's possible but never indicated how...

Laptop Dock Keyboard Shortcuts??

I did a bunch of searches to see if this topic has been brough up before and I couldn't find anything, but if I just missed it then I apologize.
I am wondering if there are any keyboard shortcuts available while using the "Mobile View" via the laptop dock. For example, I have text messaging open, I type a text message and I would like to use a keyboard shortcut to send the text message rather than having to click send.
TIA!
Blax.
Try Control-Enter. That works in Handcent at least.
No luck, the control key seems to be the same as hitting the "menu" button on the device.
Not sure how the laptop dock has the keys mapped, but you should be able to remap the Control key to send 0x25 (left) or 0x6d (right) using xev (to figure out the default keycode of that key) and xmodmap (to remap it to send those keycodes). Maybe try Alt-Enter?
Press Tab until Send illuminates in orange, then press Enter. It only works half the time though for some reason. Hope this half-way helps!
i noticed this problem since the last update...

Alright, FOR SURE how to do it is when you get to the end of your text message, press the right arrow and it will highlight send. It works every time, unlike pressing Tab.
