Start isnt starting up! Help - HD2 General

My phone yday was working great had the new rom and the phone was speedy!
This morning i put in a new memory card and the phone is slow sluggish and the start button doesnt work. Does anybody know why?
Id greatly appreciate it thanks

What happens if you take SD card out?
What happens if you format your SD card to FAT32?

How do i format it to that setting?

The start screen isnt coming on at all, it takes ages to load. Its a nightmare! lol any ideas?

I had this and it turned out that if you have any mp3s with an id3 tag that contains a genre with a brackets in it the whole phone will crash. so just a thought..
yes its unbelievable but true, it took me hours to find the issue.
http://www.htcforums.com/hd2-leo-f42/brackets-genre-crash-htc-music-manager-t3860.html

would that cause my phone to be ultra slow, stop the start window from opening? i hav had the music on there for a while and it has never happend before

ok well if you have a look at the thread i posted you will notice that i mention that the little busy circle icon thing in music app does not disapear.
check if its there, if so it is screwing up the phone and you need to remove brackets from genres.
sounds like it isnt that though so I cant help otherwise, you will have to provide more info for the experts here to help.. stuff like when I restart its fine.. I am running x,y,z programs at startup.
goodluck

Indeed,
I lost 7Gb aprox of very valuable stuff, like source code, documentation, photos, charts, music, software, video, backups, and so on..
I think i may found the pattern (kind of) because after the first corrupted memory it happend to me seeeeeveral times...
Its like if i start an app (lets say a game) that uses a lot of resources, the game is laggy and somehow it closes OR you use another app on the same time that is installed on the SD, like they crash by sharing some kind of resource... im not quite sure but at least two times after "playing" (i quote it because its mega laggy) i saw my Program Files folder EMPTY...
At least this time it doesnt f*** the whole card..
i wonder why OP hasnt posted a single good thing bout x2
i owe it and im quite satisfied with it it hass some things that need to be fixed but otherwise i like it
the only problem i have with it is that loses the sd card sometimes but as i read its the card problem (default one that came with it) its class2 (cheap $#"$#!%%&Z&#&"%%""% provider)
indycar: You are terrible wrong! The card problem issue is the X2 problem NOT card! I try a lot of cards (differents manufacturer, size, class). The point is, that X2 automatically turn off card when you stand by device and it turn on when you wake up X2 again. I´m thinking, that this should be a "feature" to increase power managing capabilities...

Well I wrote many good things about it before.
With a decent firmware it'a decent device and the best choice!!!!!!
But current firmware is a massacre confirmed by all users so no reason for good words....
The memory card problem is completely independent from the card, happened to me with both cards!!!
Another victim of memory card corruption. the whole content of the memory card just dissappear like*poof*. and the symtoms looks the same. system became incredably laggy all of the sudden. reboot the device and "watch your past disappear" (adapted from STFirst Contact when Borg Queen says "Watch your future ends")...
Ben
the weird thing about my card is that only SOME things disappeared, i had several folders on my card little by little they disappeared but the files that werent in folders stayed and never got deleted, thought the card itself did not gain/lose any memory.
my card is fine .. nothing happened
You corrupted people should try some file recovery software to recover your card content. There are plenty of free recovery programs on the internet. You'd have to stick your card into your computer and run the software on the disk. Report back if you get it to work because if could help others.

Most of my content was backed up so I will not hassle with this.
However I would love to know how to eventually format the card to
to not to slow it down...
This whole X2 case reminds me of N97 when it was introduced. Truly 'spooky' phone
My card is also from today one of those who messes up. My files does not get deleted but when browsing the card from the phone it sometimes contains perhaps two out of the folders, sometimes the files is there (i guess) but folder and file names seams renamed. A look at the card on my computer shows every file/folder/file name intact.
Guys,
You who had the SD-card corrupted, did you install any applications on it that you use frequently?

As you might have read, my card only looked corrupted in the phone file explorer but yes, I installed every application on the card. Most used is S2P and Pocket player and of course all my music used by the apps mentioned.
If running S2P listening to music, the app suddenly halts. I then shuts S2P down and starts file explorer to see what happened the card looks partially deleted or all folder and file names corrupted (mounting the card on PC shows no errors at all).
In the beginning I had Outlook save incoming mail on card but as the card disconnects outlook creates a folder, Storage Card in root of phone. That creates a problem when the phone mounts the card again since it gets named Storage Card2 instead. That messes up all short cuts created by me or phone to the applications installed at the card.
I use card pre packed with phone and I see no reason to try another since others here reports no difference when replacing card.

The moment my card got corrputed
I quit using X2 completely.
I've seen no sense in further struggling and
I also have no time for that.
Why the question?
MR2 also screws it?!
TLDR: Don't install programs or attachments on your storage card.
I am now 100% certain that power management is behind the disappearing storage card issue, and is a culprit in a number of other bugs. It looks like when you put the device into standby, it switches off power to a number of components.
It's easy to see what happens with the storage card if you use SPB Mobile Shell. There's a handy shortcut under Tools - Browse Files - Storage Card. If you put that shortcut on your home screen and come out of standby, you'll usually see the icon return to the default unassigned shortcut. After anywhere between a fraction of and many seconds, the SD card icon will reappear.
Seems like some genius engineer at Foxconn, not knowing much about WinMo or stuff in general thought he was being very clever by saving what, 10mA? in shutting it off. Think of all those extra minutes of standby time saved.
I too suffered from a corrupted FAT, but thankfully all I really lost was MP3s I already had elsewhere. Since I figured out what's going on, I've had no trouble whatsoever. It does of course mean that I've had to make yet more compromises in the functionality of the device. The key is to make sure not to install programs on the storage card, or if you must, make sure the phone doesn't go into standby while running them. Also, don't choose to store email and MMS attachments on the card, or you'll get the Storage Card2 problem.
Stupid power management also explains these other things that have been bothering me, and many of you:
Notification sounds and lights not working properly.
Sporadic checking of email.
Custom ringtones disappearing (Hint: put them on main memory).
The phone randomly freezing when trying to work with Bluetooth car kits.
Presumably Sony engineers are aware of this, because if they aren't, God help us. I'm guessing that power management is such a low level issue that it's very difficult to fix with firmware if at all. That being the case, I'm not confident this phone will ever work properly and has most likely sounded the death knell for me for both Sony Ericsson and WinMo.
@bedlam_au
You may be right about power management.
That may be the answer.
Before my card corruption when I was entering SlideView
I always saw it REFRESHING media content,
like looking for it again and again....
have you tried it?
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\Suspend]
"shc1:"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\State\Resuming]
"shc1:"=dword:00000000
We have been testing it with my friend for a while (since 24th of april) and he hasn't got any storage card problems after applying this *.reg. He had them every time before that.
@ultrashot: I think you've done it! Changed those keys and didn't even need to soft reset. I've been checking all day and haven't seen the storage card disappear once. Presumably it's going to stay that way.
Does someone feel like making up a cab for this? It'd make many people's day.
bedlam_au,

HTC HD2 performance issue

I've recently bought a brand new HTC HD2.
It was working just fine untill I transferred around 700+ music files(6Gigs worth of space) on the memory stick.
Ever since it has became really glitchy.
It freezes and sometimes just restarts itself.
6gb worth of music is nothing compared to what i have on my iPod.
Is this a known issue?
Is HTC HD2 not designed to load so much music on?
try removing music from the card and see if the problem stops, and always call your carrier and HTC to complain, f#3$s should be working hard on all these fixes
Well yeah, i removed the music... it works just fine.
This is so not... what i expected from HTC HD2.
Such an awesome phone, but ya what's the point of having
16 gigs of memory when your phone acts as its on down syndrome... when you have only about 6 gigs of music on it?
I have about 5GB of music no slowdowns whatsoever.... try reformating your microsd card, HR your phone, then load the music, then put it into the hd2... see how it goes..

if you have the t-mobile version then nothin is wrong with the phone...the memory card has a low class...a higher class memory card will work fine
there was a workaround mentioned a while ago that loads the music when the phone starts not when you open the music tab. I can't find it anymore but maybe that helps with your issue (btw I'm looking for that workaround too, can't find it anymore).
i beleive there is a fix something to do with sdcard power management basically your phone is scanning the sdcard and when u have lot sof files it can really mess with the phone but search the forums there should be a reg fix
HR your phone
@doctorcete: What does "HR your phone" mean?
Thanks
HR=Hard Reset

Music Player Overwhelms HD2

Twice I've had the experience of the HTC Music Player taking over all the memory of the unit. A soft reset didn't help. The first time it happened I did a hard reset and reinstalled everything. When it happened yesterday, I was determined to find a solution without doing a hard reset. I did. Unfortunately, it meant deleting all of my music (about 1000 songs) and playlists. I've now added all my music back on to the memory card and created some of my playlists.
When the player "takes over" the unit's memory I see a small revolving circle just to the right of the album cover update button. Can someone explain what that is indicating? This revolving circle ran for more than 90 minutes before I finally gave up on it ever stopping. I'm assuming some file becomes corrupted and then puts the software into a loop. Does anyone know what file this might be? Can it be deleted? If so, what will be lost?
Any thoughts or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I've always believed it meant it was reading the media on your sdhc... I'd say there's an issue with your memory card...
Could be a corrupt music file ... try taking your SD card out and booting ..
If it does not do the same thing with the SD card out , either there is a file that is bad on the sd card, or could be the sd card is bad ...
if you have music in your phone memory move it to the sd card see if that makes a diff ....
Also , make sure that when it is "Hanging" it is not trying to update album art from the internet, 1000 songs updating could take a while ....
Mine does that but only for a few seconds and it comes up with the message buffering so it must be it is not reading the memory card quick enough......I have just purchased a Sandisk 16GB card and it still does it so I am not sure what to now. It just seems to get slower the more files you store on the thing

Accidentally responded to the wrong thread, but second time lucky!!
I've seen issues reported like this when the music is just copied over to the storage card. One of the files causes the music player to take ages to load or indeed crash.
The common solution is to use WM player to sync the music i think...

Help. Music skips/pauses when the HD2 is locked... Anyone?

So, I have noticed an issue. I am on Kumar's Classic ROM, which I LOVE, but I am pretty sure this happened on the stock ROM as well...
Here is the issue and use environment: I keep my music on the SD Card, and I play it through the music tab. Everything is fine generally speaking. It finds the music after a few seconds on a fresh boot, reads the files and plays them fine. That is when the device is on/screen displayed. I have noticed that a lot of them time, as soon as the screen locks, the music will pause every 5-10 seconds, stay that way for about 1 second, then continue playing... over and over. As soon as I unlock the screen, it is back to normal, then when I lock it, the issue returns. It even did this a little while streaming Slacker yesterday, then cleared up after a while.
I can't figure out what would cause this. I have also noticed that movies on the SD will play fine for e a while, then the video will lag while the audio is fine, and then the video will play at like 3-4x to catch up to the audio...
Odd issues, and I'm hoping someone here has an easy fix for me. I did a search and didn't see anything...
Have you ever reformatted the card since getting it? That might be a good place to start. Also, if you have another usable card handy, just to put some music on and test with, it'll help pinpoint if the issue is the card or the phone at least.
Good idea, thx...
I had similar issues with other music programs and video programs too. Not the stock ones. Pretty much what seemed to be happening is when the phone went to sleep it cut off its connection using up its buffer then stopping. Then when I woke it up it would start playing again. Best solution I have found was to just use mortplayer. This seems to love the HD2. I will get about .01 second skip when it locks, and then when it sleeps but pretty much doesn't miss a beat. I always listen to streaming radio too so that may be an issue of mine. Since your running music off a sd card and the stock HD2 sim cards are supposed to suck you may wanna try a different card to test it.
this happened to me when i set the lockscreen to show the animated arrows. It seems it animates them every few seconds even when the screen is off.
Disabled them again and it was fixed.
Been editing the lockscreen? or installed a new lockscreen recently?
I'll try both of those suggestions, thanks guys!
I would really like to keep using the sense music player though, as I like it a lot. This also seems to happen in Slacker too...
How do I disable the arrows?
No playing with the lock screen. Only the stock one, or any edits that come with cooked ROMs. However, this has been happening through multiple ROMs, and with hard resets each time...

not the arrows then, , something running in teh background, that the phone is having to ramp up the processor to perform.
Dunno what to suggest, sorry, maybe something installed to sd card, that is making the music pause when read? does it do it when the mp3 is on main memory?

Constant Media Scanning

Hey,
My Vibrant CONSTANTLY keep rescanning the media on the SD, and its slowing the phone to a crawl. Ill watch it start, finish, and then start again 30 seconds later (or so). Anyone else have this, and if so, did you find a solution?
Thanks!
Sounds buggy...mine usually just does it if I reboot the phone
Sent from my Samsung Vibrant using XDA App
Actually my ONLY complaint about this phone not constantly but every time I reboot and it takes a good while scanning, if I try to press on any button while scanning the phone freezes, there has to be a tweak to disable this feature when vibrant roms become available..
Thats my issue too....it freezes, the screen goes off, the button backlight stays on, and I cant do anything but hard-reset it by holding the power or pulling the battery. ive deleted almost everything of the internal SD, so I have no idea why its freezing
I remove the external card and still experiencing the same thing, I just don't understand how my old HD2 with buggy winOS never did this, come on Developers Android is an awesome OS and extremely configurable, PLEASE fix this issue for us.
Mine does it on reboot and after I unplug it from my pc. It is a little annoying but it doesn't last too long.
It's scanning 16gb of memory for media changes. Why would you expect that to be faster than 20-30 seconds. Are you guys serious?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
If it's doing it constantly and not just on reboot than that is definitely a defect.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
The media scanner runs for me, at least, every time the userspace filesystem is modified, so on unplug from PC, file copy/deletes in the file manager, bluetooth unpair...etc. If you have an app that is frequently writing to /sdcard then that's probably triggering it for you.
Did you replace your SD card with one from another phone? I don't get any major scanning issues
Just exchanged the phone for a new one. Will report back.
No, I am using the stock SD card (Not ready to lose Avatar yet)

I know you can copy avatar to the internal memory and it will still work... but the link on the app won't find it, you'll have to go to files, ect. I'm pretty sure you can copy it to another SD card without any trouble. As far as the media scanner, it is pretty annoying...scanned alot when I first got the phone ..of course moving around avatar, it took a long time to rescan and it scanned several times. Now it seems to scan evertime I move or delete a file ...sometimes it scanns more than once but its usually pretty fast. It would be cool to change the settings to rescan only when you specify or something.
i have just over 7 gig of music on my sd card, scan after reboot lasts less than a min.
<edit> it is a class 6 card, so that might help with the speed etc...
I was messing around in /system and looked at one of the .conf files. There's a line in there for media with a value of "on". I'm sure if you edit it to "off" it'll stop scanning but who know what the negative effects would be.
Ya, I never had this media scanning on my G1, on any build. Wonder if it has something to do with the Internal SD and some sort of database it maintains of it. No idea why it wouldn't be simple flash memory though, exactly like an SD card
It's because of the Music player and such.
I'd still say try a reset. I just did and things (besides the GPS which is not going to be fixed by this) like the market and such aren't giving me such long loading screens. I was installing 3-5 apps at a time. Even the Friends feed widget doesn't have the looooooong loading screen anymore.

I have this same problem. Typically it will kick into the media scanning mode when opening Google Maps. The phone becomes unusable for several minutes. The screen will shut off and then comes back on close to a minute after hitting the power button. Sometimes it will display "Safe Mode" in the lower left corner.
yeah, I have an 8 gig card which is basically full and the media scanning I only notice on boot ups. And this takes very little time (20 seconds maybe).
I'm curious if you have a corrupt file or app that is causing the issue man?
Have you moved avatar to your computer, stuck the SD card in your PC and formatted it? I wonder if you put it back in your phone and rebooted if you would still have this issue?
Worse case you just move the folder with avatar back to the card, nothing lost.
Do you mind trying a format?
Someone should try the "Autostarts" app. I would try it, but it requires a rooted phone, and mines not rooted yet. This app may be able to prevent the media scanning...
http://www.androidcentral.com/android-quick-app-autostarts
Thanks for the tips. I have wiped, exchanged phones, wiping the internal and external SD, and attempted to prevent the scan using autostarts (although I didnt find anything specific), all w/o luck. Ive removed ALL my music from my internal SD, only pictures are left.
It seems to scan every few minutes or so, and it almost always causes a restart of the Touchwiz process (w/ a reload of all the widgets) and lags the phone a lot (so much that it doesnt respond to button touches for a minute or so)
Im about ready to dig in and disable this scan unless we can find a legitimate fix or purpose for it.
