When I go to compose a new SMS message and type in the first few letters of the recipient, I get a list of contact details, but they include email addresses and I only want mobile phone numbers, is there a way to do that?
Thanks.

I've no idea to remove it, but I wonder why the hell it's there in the first place. I've tried it, and it just doesn't work.
My answer would be to just ignore it, but it is a tad strange that it's there in the first place.
It's annoying as I have so many more email addresses than mobile phone numbers, which means the number I want to use is a long way down the list. Very annoying.

So when you type a name in, you have many email addresses for every person you ever send an SMS to? I doubt that many of your friends have multiple email address. Maybe a couple.
If you're complaining because the list has multiple people in it, you simply need to type a couple more letters to narrow down the search. It really isn't that big a deal. You'll get used to doing it correctly after a while.

No they don't, but I have a lot of contacts who only have an email address and no mobile number, and they still appear. Typing in a few more letters is fine, but for contacts who have similar names this is still annoying, and is a step backwards from the old functionality.
If you only want to send the text to one person you can go to the contact first, then press "Send Message"

I know how to send a text to multiple recipients, but it seems a long winded way of doing it. like selecting one recipient then going back into the contact list and doign it again.
On my Nokia E65 I could just go into my contacts list and put a check next to each name, very handy when sending a text to 30 or so people.
Is there a way to do this on Touch HD?
I face the same prob too... its kinda tiring if we have so many receipients to send to... one by one... even a low end phone can allow user to tick as many contacts at one go.. hope someone have a shortcut for this prob..
yep its a bit of a nightmare having to add contacts one by one.
what you need is something that will "Group" into your SMS composition menu.
something like this....
you can create new groups and add contacts as you see fit. then when it comes to composing the mail, just add the group you want. works really well.
i organise my 5-a-side games using this. dead handy.
This really annoyed me at first but I then found it a lot easier to just begin typing contact names into the To: field, and then using the auto list to select them rather than using the contact list if that helps.

Saves a little time, but if im sending to loads of people i might not remember their name unless i see them on the list first.
Show me the check boxes......
Try MassMessage (just check a box before each name, and send it to everyone you choose in the list) and SMSDRFIX (choose to see the number, the name, both)
can i assigne this mass message to the touchflo interdface so that launches when i click messages as opposed to the standard WM messafing centre.
I can only see it in in the start menu buttons.

In this prog you can only use groups for SMS. I have several categories (subfolders) in Outlook of my employees' e-mails. I'd like to send email to a group, not only SMS.
The other thing that bothers me is that the groups (categories) this program shows do not have complete database. For example, group "employees" has 20 entries, but only 12 show with this prog. Also if I choose "all contacts" it merely shows 10% of all I have. Any fixes? I'm using v1.4.8.
Help me out please, I don't know much about windows mobile or windows in general so maybe this is a stupid question.. if so I'm sorry for posting
While I was searching the registry for a value I could maybe change to confirm the sending of an sms or email message, as I often hit "send" in the bottom of the screen by accident while still typing the message, I stumbled on this strange value.
in HKLM\Software\HTC\HTCMsgEnhance\IPC\ are four keys/folders: Calendar, Email, MMS and SMS
All are empty except for "Email" that has 5 values whereunder the value named "Email", and it's value is "[email protected]"
Now I know I never visited this forum from my phone, nor have I received email from this forum on my phone..
I run a WWE 1.48.405.2 original ROM but I did download it from the original ROM section on this site.. now I have a feeling it was cooked. but then why put the webmasters email in there. so probably not..
Can someone maybe help me explain what this means? or if you have the same ROM, maybe look in your phones what the value of that key is?
Or maybe has a solution for the send message confirmation but I guess I should make a seperate topic for that..
Any help is much appreciated!
On mine (also 1.48 ROM, downloaded from HTC support), it's my hotmail account, which is the main email address on my phone.
Curious to see what others have in theirs, or what it says directly after a hard reset.
Are you sure you've not been messing and simply typed this in somewhere?
In my standard stock ROM are all entries empty
Thanks for checkin!
I'm thinking and thinking but I can't remember typing anything like that in my phone and I only have for two weeks.. the only thing that had to do with this site was the subscription mail that is listed in my IMAP mailbox on the phone, but I'm sure I never opened it or replied to it or anything..
I guess that means you're the webmaster at xda-developers then. Shall we forward all our queries to you in future

lol! Sorry if I don't reply.. I can't get into the account..!
I did a hard reset and now it's clear.. I decided not to worry about it anymore..
I'm connected to my jobs Exchange server and on mine this registry key contains the e-mail to my employers HelpDesk. Don't know if that helps clarifying anything ...

On mine, the value is an address I really have sent to.
Thanks that confirms my thoughts.. I figured it's the last address used in the email app.. so probably I have opened the confirmation mail in the list mail and tapped reply all by accident or something..
anyone maybe has a solution for a confirmation before sending an sms or email? I sometimes tap send by accident while still typing the message.. I'd rather have it ask me if I want to send the message with a popup like it does so often with other things that don't need it.. is there a tweak for it?
I know there's a tweak for the "message sent" alert.. but that's like rubbing it in after I've sent it by accident..

Yeap it is dangerous. I just mis-sent a mail. Because the send key is the left soft key. I tap the left to go to "Inbox", and two accidental taps led to "Reply All" and "Send" done before I know what is happening.
For POP3 accounts, you can turn off "send immediately" in options advanced settings. For Exchange, seems there is nothing you can do.
I was wondering if there is a program built in the HTC that can send photos in 1 click to the assigned emails.
For example : I take a picture, go to send - email, and thats it.
The software automatically sends the picture to any assigned emails.
On my previous N97, I had a program called PixelPipe that can do that. But since the HTC triumphs over the N97, I feel that it can do that without the fuss of using an external program.
If its not possible, what program does that ?
You can do that with the camera.
Take a picture, and when the menu bar appears, click the envelope
Thanks for replying
Yes im aware of that feature, but thats exactly why I was referring for (implied actually)
I want a way to click e.g. Send by Email => It sends to all assigned contacts directly
The option you are referring to, I have to add the emails manually, PLUS I must have an email assigned to the phone.
So any ideas ?

Sorry - you've lost me there. Of course you have to have an email account on the phone, and of course you have to enter email addresses (or names, if they're in your contact list with email addresses assigned).
No phone in the world will have native functionality to send emails without you first setting up an email account, and to suggest you want to send emails without telling the phone who to send them to is ridiculous.
Either I've completely misunderstood you or that request is ludicrous (no offense, but it is!)
Hmm I think I wrote a rather confusing description
I remember in Pixel Pipe you had to register using your email, so yeah either way you must have your email registered, my bad.
But other than that here is how it works :
You open the program
You add a list of emails you want to send to
Take a picture
Press " SEND BY EMAIL "
The software comes in and you click your account name
The software sends the picture to emails you already registered to them before
I hope this makes it clearer

Okay, I understand now. I just don't see why that's any better than the native functionality of the phone as it stands.
You open the camera app
You take a picture
You press send
You select email type
You enter email addresses
It sends an email
It's a very straight-forward process. I guess not many people would want to send picture after picture to the same group of people. (I'm not even sure the group of people would want it either lol).
If you really want the application you mentioned earler, you're better off requesting that from the developers. The only close alternatives out-of-the-box are things like facebook or twitter uploads.
Trying to do something similar to the BBM (black berry messenger) .. Friends share pictures in an instant, one click.
Since I dont have a blackberry, I send by email, so I just wanted a faster way to send pictures rather than typing the same email over and over again.
Have you tried using the "Groups" tool in the HTC Contact application? Not sure if it can do e-mail or just phone numbers since I'm not using it myself.
I dunno about the Groups tool, going to check it now.
But I found a good thing about HTC, thats why I love this phone.
If you assign someone with an email in Contacts, then by typing the first letter (or first few) in the " TO : " Field, the name will pop instantly, saving time from typing it all !!!
So its :
*take a picture
*press mailbox sign
*choose email
*type first letter
*choose contact
*send
Love it
But what is the groups tool you mentioned pphuck ??

contact tab -> all contacts -> third icon "Groups"
my guess is that you can create a group of people and then use this group for your photo mail, but i haven't tested it myself
Not sure how that would work though, because you are supposed to enter contacts' emails in "Send To" field

i would presume that you could enter the name of the group as a contact
I just tried that, didnt work.
It sounds like a great idea though, it should be implemented !!
I have had my EVO for about 2 weeks (came from a Blackberry) and noticed something odd in the address book contacts.
For every phone number within the contacts, it gives you the option to send a message. It gives you this option even if it is not a mobile number. Can this be fixed? Is there another way to store contacts within Android - because several times I've pressed the wrong number to send a message to without realizing it and then get a message of course saying they never received the message (because it was sent to their landline or fax).
Thanks in advance for your help in this matter -
Sincerely,
Kevin

This is not a glitch. Sprint offers text to landline. Edit: NVM it does not cost extra

Solution, dump the default messaging app get handcent and turn on the handcent option that only shows mobile numbers. Now when you want to type a new message make sure you go into handcent find the person there and it wont' show anything but their mobile.
many thanks...
...but was hoping that rather than a purely SMS app that there was a replacement address book app. Is there such a thing? Something with all the functionality of the default address book?
I have a gmail account - is there a google option for this? Please forgive noob question as I'm very new to android and am trying to figure this all out.
Many thanks bud.

No the address book will let you send text messages to any number. You either need to be more careful when choosing a number there to text, or instead go to your text message app and initiate new messaged through there.
Folks,
Weird question/issue. I have a google group contacts set up. When I try to send a group SMS it converts the message to MMS with the following reason "some recipients only have email addresses saved, not phone numbers. To there email addresses the message will be converted to a multimedia message"
The weird thing is, all the recipients have phone numbers, plus this worked with my htc one x, plus worked with a SMS app called "Textra". I've even checked every recipient in the group, and each one has a phone number.
I've tried using WANAM, but still get the same issue.
any ideas ?
I think I found a bug. By removing the email address associated with the contact, saving it, re-adding the email address back in has seemed to have fixed the issue. I can now use the stock SMS App, without Wanam and it sends group SMS now.. Bizzare !

Also found that if I remove the email address from gmail logged onto a pc, then re-add the email directly on the contact using the phone it works as well.

I havent found a solution other than the work around I use. It's a pain in the arsXXXe but unfortunately other than using a different SMS app I cant find a solution.
