Just curious what all can be done with the mini USB connector on the Wizard other than Active Sync and charging.
Could the device be used to charge a bluetooth headset that also takes mini USB?
Possible to add a pocket drive for more storage?
I am pretty sure with the level of talented people here that someone has found ways to maximize functionality through this port.
it's only for charging and file trasfer
the device doesn't support usb host so you can't use a drive, or keyboard, etc with the usb
With WM5Storage or CardExportII the miniSD card can be used as USB FLASHDRIVE
Apologies if this has already been covered, but I wondered if there was a solution available for getting a portable disk accessible over bluetooth (PAN I guess) to my T-Mobile Compact 3. I am aware of ways to do this with Wifi but the device only has bluetooth so I am stuffed for that option
Any ideas very much appreciated!
well the NAS have to support bluetooth i would say
unless you sync with a pc and as such have access to it's network
but that would not really be using PAN
By disk, you mean portable storage, correct?
If the portable storage allows a slot for USB adaptors (which are quite cheap) or Bluetooth enabled (like some modern laptops and PC’s are) then it may just work.
When it comes to enabling Bluetooth with an adaptor, you may have to install drivers from a CD that comes with the adaptor.
I have a Bluetooth keyboard for my Kaiser. For it to work, I had to install a CD on my laptop prior to connecting my device to the Bluetooth keyboard.
You may have to do similar, by initially connecting your pc/laptop by Bluetooth to your portable disk and installing any necessary software, and then using the Bluetooth adaptor to connect your pocket pc to the portable disk after your Bluetooth and discoverability is switched on. When connecting my keyboard to my Kaiser via bluetooth, I simply switch on my keyboard and search for any bluetooth devices and connect- but remember, the bluetooth keyboard is bluetooth enabled already, so no bluetooth adaptor is required. Once the CD had been installed on my laptop, the laptop is no longer required to connect my keyboard to my Kaiser. You shouldn't need to either
Correct, yes - I am talking about portable storage. Possibly employing a 2.5" drive within a USB enclosure.
My main reason for wanting to do this is to put my entire music collection in the car and play tracks from the collection using the PDA. Because I just want to use this source for music, the limited bandwidth that bt offers will not pose an issue. I don't have any specific technologies in mind to do this, but being based in the car, there will be no laptop involved.
I am pretty sure there are no bluetooth access points on the market that can do the job. Some do appear to have USB ports although being a they are aimed at wireless printing, I'd doubt with there is USB storage class support.
I am just seeing what opinion is out there really because I have come to the conclusion that I am trying to achieve the impossible.
Browsing quickly online, I came across some portable storage devices that had USB 2.0 slots. Surely with a portable storage device like this, you can connect a bluetooth adapter to, therefore bluetooth enabling it.

And here are some USB adaptor to plug in:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-Class-Bluetooth-Adapter-Version/dp/B000CI2QLQ/ref=pd_sbs_ce_title_1
And here are some specific 2.5" portable storage devices with USB. It specifically says "Complete with USB 2.0 cable, quick connect guide and utilities CD": Here is the link:

Even though no bluetooth compliance is mentioned, it does specifically mention a USB 2.o cable, which may possibly be connected to your Pocket PC device slot. For example, I can connect my Kaiser to my Laptop easily with a USB cable. You just need to make sure you get the right cable that can fit into both your device and your portable storage. Here in the UK, stores like Maplin to cater for all types of devices

Thanks for the input, although those kind of solutions won't work as it's not simply a matter of plugging a bluetooth dongle into a usb drive caddy.
Okay. I suppose it is you with the portable device so you're more likely to know what ought to work.
Have you possibly considered just transferring you're large music collection onto an 8GB memory card, or possibly waiting for the 32GB memory card which is due in April? I have the 8GB and I have placed stacks of music, videos, and a movie onto it along with word documents, yet I still have over 5GB of storage space left.

Good point, I have considered this - my entire music collection is less than 20gb so it may be viable.
A lot of bluetooth APs though have USB ports for attaching printers. Does anyone know if any of these support USB storage devices? (Bit of a long-shot!)
Description:
Trying to use the hands-free option of the phone with the built-in micro in combination with sound/music output over the USB H2Wire Support.
Problem:
After connecting the audio (car radio aux), the internal micro of the phone is disabled and therefore no hands-free operation is possible.
Question:
Does anybody know if there is a possibility to change this behaviour and activate the internal micro? For example in the registry?
i am not sure ... i think, this is not possible!
yesterday i succeeded with connecting the gnote to my car stereo via usb,
using the following instructions
usb debugging mode off
while Idle then I go to usb utilities and press connect to storage pc
then I connect the usb cable
yesterday it worked fine, although i was bummed it did not read the music on the external sd card, just the music that is stored on the 16 Gb built in sd card, what a bummer.
BUT today i could not connect it and my car stereo gave me usb N/A
i tired to connect my experia play and my iphone and both worked and connected immediately via usb to my car stereo withut any hassles, by the way I faced the same problem with Galaxy S2.
what is wrong here, and why only do i face that with the note and S2.
I also noticed 2 days ago that every time i connect my phone to the computer and usb debugging mode is on after i disconnect the drives from the computer and then press disconnect from my phone the phone turns off. I did a hard reset hoping it would solve the problem and also formatted my external sd card to fat 32 but still no solution. I have installed kies on my laptop and it identifies the note successfully. Why does the note keep turning off when I disconnect it from my laptop or computer
I really need to solve this as I depend on listening to music in my car using the usb cable as listening to the music directly from the note via 3.5mm cable is really bad on my stereo compared to using the note as storage card.
I was so put down when I compared the same song being played from xperia play with the gnote using poweramp with the same settings, as the sound coming from the xperia play was good compared to the note which was awful. In this comparison both phones where connected via 3.5mm cable to the car stereo, so I have no choice now to only listen to music using the note as a storage card by connecting it to the car stereo via usb cable
this is when I miss the iphone when everything works out of the box, and I don't have to struggle like this
Please help me in solving this as its driving me crazy
Hey. So for the past few months, I've been able to connect my phone as a "usb thumb drive" to my car audio and play/control music directly through the headset. For some reason, over the past few days, whenever I connect my phone, the car will recognize the USB, connect, show a song playing, and then disconnect within seconds. And then my car is just waiting for a USB to be plugged in.
Have any of you had a similar issue or know what I can do to fix it?
BTW, my phone is currently fully stock, replacement phone from Sprint.
You have a firm usb connection? Also you enabled mount as usb on the phone?
I suggest putting some songs on a real USB flash drive, and see if the same thing happens. This way, you can help narrow down the problem to either your EVO or your car audio unit.
Another thing to consider is if you added any new files to your SD Card since it stopped working. Embedded devices with USB mass storage support can be pretty buggy, and its software can choke if it encounters a particular file that it doesn't know how to deal with.
