I have the serial number of the device, it is possible through software or something to the device? Even if there is software that costs money I'm willing to pay for ... Please help me :-(
The only software that might help you locate your device is "Sprite Terminator"
or any similar software.
But... it has to be installed already on your device. If you didn't have that kind of
software on your device i'm afraid there is nothing much to do.
Microsoft's "My Phone" might be able to help you. There are advance features:
• Find your lost phone The My Phone service can show you the last known location of your phone on a map (based on where it last synced or shared photos using My Phone). User activation required. Go HERE to Learn more.
?
More options?
if you got the imei nr
report it to the police then they will block the phone from being used as a phone
Agree .
The police can find your phone.
I know cases of people who bought stolen phones without knowing they were stolen. One day the police was knocking on their door.So this is your best chance and it costs nothing i think.
I know it won't help you with this phone, BUT for your next phone install Remote Tracker, a great tool you can find in the Developers section on XDA. The best about it is the "Top Secret" tool or even the sim card change detection ... Of course, nothing will survive a re-flash ...
tnks for all here =]
i go to the police...

My phone was stolen in london yesterday. It had a PAYG sim in it, and I have been calling it and sometimes it rings. I've left messages and texts but nothing.
I have seen services like mapamobile and followus which offer triangulation tracking but the problem with this is that I don't want the theiving twat to know that I'm tracking it, and all these services send tracking notification texts ti the handset being tracked.
Does anyone know of any services or software that can track my phone?
I've been trying to postpone it ( to give the teef a chance to redeem themselves) but worst comes to worst I'll call orange and get the phone blocked.
try https://www.immobilise.com/
Get this: ORANGE can see (on screen - while I'm on the phone to them) who put their SIM in my phone by looking at the IMEI info!
They WILL NOT TELL me as this would be a breach of the information of the theiving c*nt that took my phone. I have already registered the phone stolen with the police and their response was "well if we followed ever stolen mobile phone we wouldn't be doing anything else blahblahblah"
The police said if I knew who took the phone they would go and arrest them, search their house (and find all my other items they nicked at the same time).
Does anyone know of software or a service that can track my phone from the IMEI?
Googling throws up a number of sponsored links, eg
www.mobilelocate.co.uk
Not sure if it's IMEI based. was it insured?
V
Unfortunately, all of these pay services send a text message to the phone that you want to locate and will only then locate that phone, once a permission to locate reply text has been be sent from that phone back the locating service.
For my circumstances, this won't help as there is no way that the theiving [email protected] is going to allow themselves to be tracked.
Any other ideas greatly apprecited (especially from orange employees hint hint)
Have you tried calling your opperator to find which cell tower its using? By this way you may get to know his location. And moreover i heard somewhere that if three towers' triangle pointings with distance may be help you to locate your phone in exact position, but i don't think theyl use this technology for finding a phone. Its only used to track terrorists
Anyway, good luck on your next device. Use precautions like my software UTA
Regards
Carty..
Carty you are exactly right, the signal can be triangulated to pinpoint it's location within a few metres however this is only really done for serious crimes, such as kidnapping, murder, terrorism etc.
But further than that, the network (orange in this case) when someone puts a SIM into a handset, that info (SIM data and IMEI) is recorded by network and for this reason I did not have the phone immediately blocked. When I spoke to Orange they could actually see who is using my phone now!, but they will not give me the info and just for theft the police don't get involved to the point where they get a court order to request that person's details.
Bloody annoying :x
Hey I think you may want to try http://www.eastmobiles.com
in australia, a stolen phone, once reported stolen with imie number. the phone is locked/blocked/bricked by all the telco's.
Yea..i went kayaking today. Let a friend of mine look after it for me. He left it on the pier with the case on. And when I came back later..it was gone~ I saw some peeps earlier that were getting their boats lifted up which was the same side where the phone was....

That's sad..it will be nice if phone companies could implement an embedded software which will allow a user to hard program a number to call when the thieves pop in their own SIM. I know there are softwares out there that can do this trick now but if the thieves HARD RESET your phone, these software has no use at all.
This is no spam this is just a program I use.

There is a cell phone in china I saw the advertisement on tv, forget the name but anyway, If it is stolen anytime a sim is put into it(not the origional) the phone will not work but will send messages to you telling you the information of the sim that was installed in it. It will not work unless the sim that you setup the phone with is installed and of course you can change sims if you have all the codes etc AND the origional sim installed. There is also no way around it no hard resets nothing. Seemed kinda nifty but was really a crap phone for other features.
Couldn't you cook it into the ROM? In the same way my Trion installs a cab for the O2 settings, install a CAB for sending messages to tell you it has been messed with.
(Obviously, we'd have to find a piece of open source software or each do it ourselves.... or would a trial of the Sprite software be sufficient?)

I believe your idea will work. If we cooked this piece of software along with the registry/entry for the SIM into the ROM, then even a hard reset won't able to wipe that out. I guess I will have to cook my own rom and give it a try. If this idea works, then each one of us will have to cook our own rom or provide our SIM, IMEI and profile to other rom cookers to cook a personalized rom.

I agree with you!
I cooked my Schaps ROM with UTA (Ultimate Theft Alert v.3), a software that can permit to retrieve a SMS from your PDA at the SIM changes.
It runs very well. And It obviously resists to hard-resets!
i want one cooked rom of that for my tytn too
couldnt tyou use the softare mentioned above and put the cab file in your ext mem so if is is hard rest it would set its self back up

Put in ext rom will not work if a thieve know how to soft reset it before the ext rom runs. Of course if a thieve has enough knowledge of this type of phone, he can load a clean rom before he pop in another SIM then the anti-thieve software will have no effect at all even we cooked it into the rom.
Man..sooo many knowledgeable people in this forum! Awesome forum site!
I have had Cingular for a few years, I dont remember whare I learned this, I think it was a combersation with a Cingular Rep, I you call and report your phone stollen that phone whill no longer work.
I had the razr and lost it in my house, not able to find it, phone was off, was not able to call and hear the ring. I had Insurance, called Cingular and they send me to the Insurance dep ( diferent company ) told tham the story and they told me that if I tell tham that it was stollen that phone will not be activated, it will be a brick.
I said it was lost in my house and that I did not wanted to report it stollen, then send me another one, and later found the lost phone, I than Had two phones
I dont know if its true or not, as I was not able to test what the rep told me.
Try calling T-mobile and see what happends.
What the carrier would do is block the IMEI number on the stolen phone from accessing their network. However, to get around this, the thief could just change the IMEI. Or "Sir Steals-a-lot" could simply unlock it and use it on another carrier with no problem. Unfortunately there's always a way around the system (that's good and bad ).
edit: Forgot to mention, for AT&T customers, there is no insurance offered for their PDA or "high tech" phones. So, you'd have to get some kind of 3rd party insurance.

From what I have seen the most knowledgable people about these phones are in this forum and have enough integrity not to take it in the first place.
In general, John Q. Public would rather send the phone back to mfgr/carrier, and have everything like roses than do a little research and gain some knowledge about his device.
To the OP, I am sorry for your loss. I hate thieves.
I believe most of the GSM providers are sharing data now which means once an IMEI was blocked, it will no longer work on other carrier, even in other part of the world.
I called tmo to see if they can put it on the stolen list. And the rep said they dont have such a LIST. And the guy didnt give me any other options with the stolen phone.
Well time to look for another cheap 8525~
I recently find a samsung focus in a parkink lot and when I try to use it, att block my number and i have to call them to get the service back. Aparently the phone was reported lost or stolen. I wonder if theres a way to make this phone unrecognisable to att so i can use it with my legal sim card.
Just so know, windows phone comes with "Find my phone" function, so probably the owner already blocked the phone trough his "My phone" online hub and probably he's is already tracking the phone...

Ok Thanks.
If the phone is lost or stolen you can bring it to the police station or lost objects dept and this phone may come to its legal owner. Regards,
Hello,
to all of you.
I want to know some things about Mobile Phone, I hope You understand this question and I'll get replies.actually, my friend has found a new Grand 2 Mobile phone still packed in box on road, I know it seems weird but "its true", and He tried to search the owner of the Phone but he got no clue, that is just a Grand 2 packed nothing else, no bill, no address, nothing, and he is little nervous that's why he doesn't want to inform about this to some P.Station (you know India Polise), so he decided to start using this device, but before that he wants to clear some things, he doesnt want to be in a some kind of mess, so please reply,
1.If we don't put sim card in Mobile, and keep the device off removing the battery, then Are Mobile Operator or Mobile Manufacture able to trace the Mobile or not?
2.Is it possible to change the IMEI number of the Mobile, If yes then Can you tell me How? or tell me the link on web?
3.Because Nothing is set up on phone till now, as I told this is packed, if we put sim card in Mobile is there any possibility by which the mobile can be traced?
4. If he only use this device as a media player, then what are the chances of something went wrong?
P.S : He found this device ten days ago, and he tried to search the person who bought this from the nearby sellers(actually he found it on very busy road), but found nothing.
Thank You.

There is a method to change the IMEI.
However, it is illegal in North America and many other countries.
I'm sorry I can't give you a link as this is illegal in the States, but keep looking around.
It's probably legal in India (a big country with the world's second biggest population ... who can trace you anyway?)
If you operate the device without a SIM card (airplane mode) or any form of Internet communication, no one is able to trace you, unless it is the CIA.
Hello Guys,
Just need some help from you.
Unfortunately I got my Moto g4 plus stolen yesterday. I want to Lock/block the device in order to prevent the misuse.
Is there any way to do so other than using the Android Device Manager ? as Android Device Manager requires Location and data to be turned on in the device, in order to lock it. And I don't think I had those turned ON on my device.
Any help is really appreciated.
Thanks
Any Suggestions ? Will be happy to hear back from anyone of you..
Thanks
There are few basic steps you can follow if your phone is lost/stolen
block the sim so unwanted calls/messages are not made from your phones
file a complaint in cyber crime so they can track the phone easily ( make sure you have all the bills, imei number & other necessary details )
i hope this basic steps helps you
my motog4+ phone has lost with imei no:354115073105775 please help to trace them

You should be filing a report at the police station in your locality, not ask us for help to trace your phone on XDA.
If you would like to find out where it could be, roughly, you can try using Android Device Manager (search for it, you'll find links you need quicker).
Android device manager would only be useful if the location service and data was turned on in the device, that's what I got to know from Moto Customer Service
