My phone was stolen in london yesterday. It had a PAYG sim in it, and I have been calling it and sometimes it rings. I've left messages and texts but nothing.
I have seen services like mapamobile and followus which offer triangulation tracking but the problem with this is that I don't want the theiving twat to know that I'm tracking it, and all these services send tracking notification texts ti the handset being tracked.
Does anyone know of any services or software that can track my phone?
I've been trying to postpone it ( to give the teef a chance to redeem themselves) but worst comes to worst I'll call orange and get the phone blocked.
try https://www.immobilise.com/
Get this: ORANGE can see (on screen - while I'm on the phone to them) who put their SIM in my phone by looking at the IMEI info!
They WILL NOT TELL me as this would be a breach of the information of the theiving c*nt that took my phone. I have already registered the phone stolen with the police and their response was "well if we followed ever stolen mobile phone we wouldn't be doing anything else blahblahblah"
The police said if I knew who took the phone they would go and arrest them, search their house (and find all my other items they nicked at the same time).
Does anyone know of software or a service that can track my phone from the IMEI?
Googling throws up a number of sponsored links, eg
www.mobilelocate.co.uk
Not sure if it's IMEI based. was it insured?
V
Unfortunately, all of these pay services send a text message to the phone that you want to locate and will only then locate that phone, once a permission to locate reply text has been be sent from that phone back the locating service.
For my circumstances, this won't help as there is no way that the theiving [email protected] is going to allow themselves to be tracked.
Any other ideas greatly apprecited (especially from orange employees hint hint)
Have you tried calling your opperator to find which cell tower its using? By this way you may get to know his location. And moreover i heard somewhere that if three towers' triangle pointings with distance may be help you to locate your phone in exact position, but i don't think theyl use this technology for finding a phone. Its only used to track terrorists
Anyway, good luck on your next device. Use precautions like my software UTA
Regards
Carty..
Carty you are exactly right, the signal can be triangulated to pinpoint it's location within a few metres however this is only really done for serious crimes, such as kidnapping, murder, terrorism etc.
But further than that, the network (orange in this case) when someone puts a SIM into a handset, that info (SIM data and IMEI) is recorded by network and for this reason I did not have the phone immediately blocked. When I spoke to Orange they could actually see who is using my phone now!, but they will not give me the info and just for theft the police don't get involved to the point where they get a court order to request that person's details.
Bloody annoying :x
Hey I think you may want to try http://www.eastmobiles.com
in australia, a stolen phone, once reported stolen with imie number. the phone is locked/blocked/bricked by all the telco's.

so..my buddies phone keeps 'searching' for signal.. im thinking they have disabled the imei #.. it was working the other day with with his cingular sim in it but now its constantly searching and when he goes into the network tab to select manual it says 'cant read settings from network'
Theoretically, yes. When you report a phone as stolen, the carrier will usually block the SIM card and mark the IMEI number as stolen*. I've never heard of a carrier just randomly blocking a IMEI number though. And as far as I know there's no way for them to know that the phone had another carrier's SIM card in it.
* Of course, in the case of Cingular, they do absolutely nothing with that information. When my phone was stolen (later returned, thankfully) I was on the phone with them for a long time. The only thing that would happen with a blacklisted IMEI is, IF the person took it to a store, and the associate saw it was stolen and took the initiative to take it from them and call the police.
well hes changed the rom to different verisons and also different radio verisons trying to fix and nothing is picking up signal.. so u have any ideas what could be going on?

Try a new sim card. I had my Tmobile sim card take a dump on me and that is exactly what my SDA did, kept searching for a signal. So my advice is try another sim card and if the phone picks up signal then tell him to go to his carrier and get a new one. They should do it for free.
we tried multi carrier sim cards.. tmobile cingular and cellular one.. stuck on searching.
I dont know how it is donw over in the US, but in the UK i believe that the Imei can be blockd so the phone will not work correctly. So the phone is dead to the world!!!
thats how its looking. and i cant get the imei change tool from the site to work!

Yeah i beleve Europe and the UK will block an IMEI reported stolen. The US carriers dont care. They would rather sell you another phone, even if its a free phone, and rope you into another contract. Think about it, blocking stolen IMEIs requires effort that does not pay the company back. Giving away a free phone requires effort that makes them money because you are stuck in another contract, and they can collect the termination fee if you decide to dump said contract.
Thats why in the UK most of us pay abit more each month so if the phone is taken or lost we get a new on on the same contract and the company gets no more money as no new contact!!!!!
And now you are saying to your self in the USA why did we not stay with the Brits!!! We would be better off!!!

God save our people and that DUMB Queen as well!

My provider, Fido, offers a service where the name of the caller and telephone number show up. It's called name display. Unfortunately, on the hermes, the name does not show up. I only get the telephone number.
I have used another phone with this service and the service works.
I have been through several roms and they all give the same result. Any clues to what could be going on?
bump bump77
I never knew there was this funtionality from the provider......
Always thought there was a conversion on the phone when there comes a call in. Number recognition is we'll known, name send with the provider I have never heard off.....
Hope someone has an answer for you!

"What is Name Display?
It's a unique service exclusively offered by Fido and Rogers that lets you see on your handset display a caller's NAME and phone number from Fido, Rogers Wireless and landline callers across the nation, even if it isn't entered in your phone book. So you'll always know who's calling you. "
dying to find a solution
I have Hermes from Rogers. I have name display and of course stop working after upgrading to WM6.
just to prevent duplication, please read what I've done so far at the following link:

I don't have enought info or experience. Can anybody help? Work together or direction whatever...
This cannot be impossible. I don't think HTC developed a driver only for Rogers.
Help!
I've got an unlocked G1 bought off eBay in early December. Up until today it's been working without any problems. However at 11am today it dropped off the O2 network and I can't get voice / text. I still have data access though.
Here's what I've tried:
1. My SIM in another phone - fine
2. Other SIMs in my G1 - no network registration except for a TMobile SIM.
3. Soft reset of G1
4. Hard reset of G1.
5. Wipe and reflash using update.zip method off microSD card to UK RC8 - no difference.
I'm desperate here - got multiple important calls pending over the next few days..
If I use "Search Networks" and manually select O2, I get the message "Your sim card does not allow a connection to this network".
"Registering automatically" also fails (but silently).
How can I get my G1 up and running ??
Try getting a new sim card from O2?
Currently using my SIM in another phone without issue (on the same cell tower too).

Nope - it literally dropped off the network after being in use with no problems after a month.
Can connect to o2 data channels, just no voice / text. Connects to voice with T-Mobile SIM only.
I've redone the settings 1/2 a dozen times as part of the whole wipe / re-flash circle of life thing...
Given up now - will test with PAYG TMobile and sell on eBay for parts / working. Can't be dealing with it for now but will return to Android when it's a little maturer and my contract's due.
I'm having the exact same problem. Anyone ever find a solution? I phoned T-Mobile and they told me to type in something involving the PUK code, but I didn't think it'd do anything.
I typed it in, and it's just stuck now. Saying unblocked, now unlocking.
Anyone help?

I've got a pay as you go T Mobile SIM in mine now. Registers with nework ok but won't make / receive phone calls / messages..
Going through the mill with T Mobile support in the hope they've seen this before..
Hey,
I'm from Germany and wanted to complete an O2 contract and use it with my G1.
But before I make the contract I used an O2-prepaid card (O2 loop). Im connected to the next O2 cell and calling works great. (running ADP1 JF 1.31 fw)
The cell-tower are not the same as t-mobile and vodafone and the active O2-cell is changing very often.
I hope O2 contract will work, because it's the cheapest kind of data plan.

Looks like you were spot on mate.
Just done a CheckMend report indicating that the IMEI has been blocked on "one or more UK networks".
I've pulled my auction (of course) as I'm an honest seller.
Will have to do some digging as to why - tense email to original seller tonight I think, then maybe the police etc in the morning.

Blocked by T-Mobile at someone else's request.
Paypal - no resolution as > 45 days (nicely timed by seller it seems)
Time for the police *sigh*
Wow! Turns out my phone was blacklisted too! Thanks SOO much! I never would have thought to check to see if it had been reported stolen.
Need to chase up eBay seller now though. Fun.
Well - after hammering away at this for nearly 3 days...
I have a crime reference number!
Which means that PayPal / eBay / T Mobile will need to investigate.
Friendly advice to any others in this situation - I was told initially by the desk officer at my local police station that this was "a civil matter". Thankfully I ignored that and spoke to the local headquarters - they've confirmed that it's a criminal matter and they will be investigating further. So stick to your guns ;-)
Fingers crossed, and good luck to anyone else out there in the same situation.
Apologies for the bump
I apologize for bumping the thread after all this time, but i've had this happen to my G1 just today. After months of flawless use my unlocked G1 suddenly decided to not like any SIMs but a T-Mobile one. Annoyingly IMEI checks show that it's not blacklisted, using both CheckMEND and calling O2 direct and asking them if they have a blacklist flag on it, which they didn't.
I'm wondering if CodeMonkey, or anyone else, managed to get anywhere with a claim or a reason or solution to any of it?
Also, i'm curious as to whether or not we have the same Ebay seller, just to ease paranoia of a scam of some kind going on.
Cheers

This is still with the police *sigh*. Currently chasing down the T-mobile account holder who blocked it originally and the seller. Given up much hope of getting my money back but hoping to take the £350 I'm down by out of the guilty party's hide through the criminal justice system. As far as I can determine, this is either insurance fraud (account holder sells phone for cash, reports as lost and claims off TMobile insurance) or theft & selling stolen goods.. I personally think it's an attempt at insurance fraud by some dimwit as the phone came in it's original packaging with accessories still sealed.
I won't post the seller's name on a public forum in case they're an innocent party, however PM me the details of yours and I'll respond. If it is the same seller I'll update the police appropriately so they can widen the investigation and get in touch with you (if you want to go down that path)..
**EDIT**
Update - compared sellers and they're not the same: watch out if buying on eBay peeps.
I am glad that I found this threat, to learn I am not crazy. Bought a German G1 via ebay, and the first day (wih original FW) everything was fine. At least i think so as I didn't use it much. Then I upgraded manually to latest German RC9 version. While the phone showed to be connected to o2 and internet was working fine, I noticed only one day later that I was not able to make outbound calls or send SMS. Also other o2 customer got error tone (no real message why not reachable) when calling me, SMS didn't arrive. However the most weird thing was that it was possible to call my mobile phone from my fix/land line! Again, for other mobile phones I was not reachable, but land line worked?!
While beeing frustraded I did HW reset and the FW update again, but still same problem. Still in the evening of the same day I left my house, sitting on the airport - and suddenly it worked smoothly. Since that, for a week now, everything works fine.
No, I don't undertand this at all. And I think this was in my case also no issue of being blacklisted as it works now, without doing anything. Letäs hope it does not have a fall back.
G1 Swindle
Hey guys
It looks like I have also been swindled by some chump on ebay and my G1 has been blocked. Has anyone any idea if the phone can be wiped and rebooted in a fashion that clears it from any blocking register?
Otherwise I'm stuck with a very expensive paper weight!!
Dear xda-users.
Sadly I have lost my HD2 after a having it for a week. I have tried to locate it via Microsoft My Phone but it failed me.
My network operator has blocked the sim-card and the phone's IMEI number.
Does anyone know if it is possible to track it down even when the phone has ran out of power and does?
Anybody know any company who is able to track devices?
I hope you can help me.
Regards
Razir.
Well if the SIM card is blocked, there is no way how the device would let you know. It could use wifi, but even if wifi was on, HD2 wont connect unknown networks until told so.

No power, no way.
if its out of power u wont track it... ull have to wait till someone finds it... recharges it and connects to network.. thats only way how to track it (it broadcasts its imei over network).. even if they hard reset it which would kill myphone tracking
dont know about any companies but in slovakia it is prohobited by law to track down cell phones... before ppl were able to do that by calling police but not anymore

If you asked the network to block the IMEI you're pretty much screwed. If it wasn't blocked, someone could take the phone, change SIM, and hopefully turn it on without hard resetting, which you'd be able to see on myphone. But as the IMEI is blocked, even if he did that, the network wouldn't let it connect, so it wouldn't be able to tell it's position.
Except if the guy connects to a wifi. But he'd certainly think about hard resetting before that.
Thank you guys. Your answers have been useful.
As it might be a little late for you now I ran across this program called Ultimate Theft Alert. If you would have had this application installed you might have been able to locate your phone. Or at least tell you who has it.
http://www.wm6software.net/utilities/_ultimate_theft_alert_v35_.html
I'd like to blatantly push a free and VERY full featured program here called remote tracker. Lets you do all the phone tracking stuff, send it a text and it sends you back a link to google maps with lcation, location based on gps and/or cell towers, it can record a 5 minute gps track and send it to you, it has sim swap alert, wipe your simcard, wipe sd card, run scripts remotely, lock up your phone, throw up messages on screen, have the phone call you back, it is soft reset friendly (hard reset proof if you cook it in yourself),,,
http://remotetracker.sourceforge.net/
oh, and no i'm not the author, and nor do i get a kickback
oh, and it can respond by text, email or ftp (or all the above)
edit - sorry to the OP :-(
Hi guys,
I also lost my HTC HD2 but didn't speak to my network yet, so do I have any chance to find it?? any idea how?

Hey I am in a similar situation. Can youplease confirm. If I DO Unblock the IMEI from my carrier, will the myphone service be able to locate the HD2 even if it does now have a new SIM card in it?
I lost the phone O/S and would do anything to get it back - I have it registered to the microsoft myphone service. Now that I am back home, I got a new sim card with the same number. Will the myphone service search via IMEI or does it need my active sim card in it?
Thanks
Myphone ONLY uses the sync relationship with the phone. The position is updated when the phone is synced. So the position you see is the one of the last sync, and if the new "owner" is clever enough to hard reset your phone, you'll never get position updates again.
Hi, first post so be gentle lol
Can't figure this out guys, I've an unlocked X10i de-branded, problem I've got is I'm unable to make or receive calls or texts, strange thing is the data side of things works fine, internet on edge or 3G works perfectly well. Phone displays my carrier (O2-UK) shows signal strength and updated the time/date instantly.
If I go into the call setting menu, and say for instance try to turn on call waiting , I get an error message saying 'Network or SIM card error'. I contacted O2 to see if there was maybe something they had to activate/authorise their end, but was told no, although their sending me out a new SIM card. My current SIM card works fine in my other phones (Samsung, iphone) plus I've tried a Vodafone and Orange SIM in the X10i with the exact same problem, which leads me to think it's the phone side of things rather than carrier thats need sorting.
The phone's current firmware version is 1.6, Baseband 1.0.16, build number R1FA016. I'm desperate to to use this phone as it clearly has loads of potential..!!
Many thanks.
Is the x10 2nd hand? Were you able to make and receive calls before you debranded?
The x10 could have been reported lost or stolen and blacklisted. Or I guess It could be a physical fault with the contacts in the sim card slot.
Try sim card in any other phone first

Thanks for the reply, yes the phones 2nd hand but I don't know enough about it's past history as to wether its blacklisted or not, but I couldn't make calls before I debranded. Fortunately the person I bought it from is a colleague, so if it is indeed blacklisted then I will get my money back no problem which is a relief..!!.
Any idea how I go about finding out if it's blacklisted? is it just a case of calling my service provider? Thanks again.

They could have sold it to you and reported it stolen in order to get a new handset through insurance. Some people think it's an easy way to essentially get a "free" handset. Providers protect themselves by making those "stolen" phones blacklisted.
This has happened many times before to many people, he might not have known it was going to be blacklisted and sold it to you. If this is the case, I certainly hope you get your money back.
And to answer your question, contact the provider that the phone was locked to. Tell them you bought this phone from someone else and it is not making calls or sms, you want to know if it is blocked or something. If so, mention that you will contact the police to get your money back. That way they know you are serious and not just a thief who wants to know if they can sell this phone. Consult your "friend" before you do this, because if he is pulling a scam they will nail him for fraud if you call them and inform them he sold it to you.

Thanks for the advice, it's much appreciated. I'll be having 'words' with him tomorrow trust me!
Me too.
Hey I was wondering if had been able to fix our X10, I have exactly the same problem. I tried resetting the factory settings, and it worked I started to be able to send and recieve text/calls, only to wake up this morning and find it stopped working again?
wondered if you have been able to fix yours, any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
I have a similar problem, since debranding it shows as "no service". If I go close to my window at home I get one bar. The only time I can get full service (3G) is when i'm at work and that is because I am 10 meters away from a mast! Other than that it struggles.
I've tried to roll back to the branded software to see if that it the problem but it doesn't want to roll back (I made sure I saved the original files).
