Hi all,
I have an XDA exec, and am looking to change it for a Wizard. How much difference (if any) is there in the speed of these devices, as I understand the Wizard doesn't use an Intel processor it uses Texas Instruments.
Does this mean having to get different binaries ? or do ARM ones still work ?
How do these devices compare... any thoughts appreciated.
Cheers
Well i had an exec and made the exact same decision as you are thinking of making. I have no regrets believe me. First and foremost the phone part works brilliantly, secondly it seems faster to me than the exec, you dont look like a tit when you answer it and it doesnt weigh a ton.
Things i miss:-
VGA Screen
3g Data speed
Nicer keyboard
Things i dont miss:-
Useless phone
Slow speed
Weighty
Large and hard to use
Any more questions just ask
Chris

Phew, glad it's working out for you Chris!
I switched too...
I had an exec and now I HAVE A WIZARD... I will never look back. I miss the VGA screen but that's about it.
Cyb
Have both but going to sell my exec.
Again will only miss the beautiful VGA screen.
Would O2 do a straight swap for the wizard (xda mini) or did you guys buy and sell yours privately ?
EDIT: Only within the first 14 days
Anyone wanna swap a XDA exec, bought in october 2005 for a xda mini (wizard) in black.
PM me if interested
Thanks for the responses gents, seems like a unanimous decision all round to me
Just to uphold the concensus ...
I got the Exec first , then an MDA Vario
I must say I agree with all that is said so far , the only downside is the size of the screen and the lack of 3G (no big deal IMO ) But in it's (the vario's) favour , it is a much better PHONE than the Exec , and I do need my device to be able to function as a phone as well as making the tea etc.
I am a bit gutted , as I loved the Exec , and feel sad that the Vario has rendered it almost obsolete (for my needs , at least)
Tried to sell the Exec on Ebay , but had a bit of trouble - and to be honest I was quite pleased , as I don't REALLY want to sell it :? , but can't really justify keeping it either !
I could have written that post!
I have the O2 mini and Exec. Why? Well I got the Exec through my work when upgrading and I got the mini for myself as it looked agreat bit of kit. Have had both for about three weeks.
Guess what is sitting there not getting used - the Exec!!! Sure it has a great screen and the keyboard is a flashback to the Psion 5 but for sheer convenience it has to the the mini - excellent (not fantastic a an actual phone but a great all rounder).
It will be inetresting what will be out this time next year!
Anyone want an Exec?
I have to agree with everything above. I had an Universal for about 6 weeks and loved it, however, I did find it totally unpractical as an everyday phone and ended up diverting calls to an old Nokia, which sort of defeated the object!! I then saw a K-Jam in PC World and it was love at first sight Got a fantastic deal from T-Mob (Vario) and have never looked back. I think the Universal is a great bit of kit but the Wizard does it for me every time
It's 2009 and the magician is kind of 'oldie'
there are phones that surpass it in performance.
I wonder, how many users are still there true to our ol'friend?
Still use mine.
Had it for 4 years. Never had a problem with it & still using the original battery.
Build quality was superb on this device, unlike the crunchy plastic Diamond/Touch Pro.
Only other HTC device to match build quality was the Kaiser.
I have recently sold my work Touch Pro & got my unused Orange Contract Kaiser out of it's box as the crunchy plastic fantastic Pro with it's useless front panel buttons were driving me nuts.
Long live the HTC Legends.
rough boy
all the afternoon i wait for the Armstrong Linux to finish updating...
I have a 2nd hand one...
seems to be a tough bastard the magician, heh?
Mine is now used by my 9 year old son.
i sure would like to see linux on it for the vast amount of software available then...
I'm buyed second hand magician and I like it. The only problem is lack off wi-fi and non-working programs build for wm05/06.
I have Motorola MPx200 too.
I have bought it 8 monthes ago 100$ and now can't see myself whithout it
khaledvic
I have one 4 years old. Battery is giving problem now as the set resets at 37% of battery charge.
It is used by my wife now......
lol
so there are still active Magician users...
I wonder how many would be interested in Linux on them?
and how good a linux could become on a mobile device?
maybe to start an other pool?
I still use it every day. 3 years old. No problems at all. I even don't want a new phone. In the beginning battery life was 4 days, now only 2. That is still more than today's devices. I will use it untill it breaks.
I have also used the latest Diamonds from my work but they cannot convince me. For navigation I have a few PNA's. The magician is only for PDA/Phone as it was designed to be. Rock Solid.
Cheers

not a hard thing to be ;-)
I'm also still using my Magician. And for months I was looking for a new WM fone. It isn't because my Magician is not good anymore, it's just I'd like to have one with a newer OS. I'm a tech-whore sometimes. But now as there is a WM6.1 rom for the Magician I don't see why I need a new "toy".
After more than 3 years of use, second battery and one case change (I dropped it, and it got terrible dents) it works fine for me. Actually I don't know if the battery I'm using is the original or the second one I bought, one of them died and they look identical.
So I guess I'll try the WM6 rom and get a case change for the 2nd time, 'cause I've dropped it again several times, and the batterycover doesn't fit as tight as it used to be anymore and it comes off from time to time causing my Magician to power off.
On ebay the whole 3-parts-case costs only 9 euros, including disassembly tool. 5 euros for a new touchscreen if needed and 15 euros for a 2500mA lipo battery on ebay. That's 30 euros for a "new fone", lots of fun and excitement changing the case myself, and my Magician serving me for 2 more years!
Hello!!!
I can only say that Iam worst than any of you...
Today i bought second-hand Magician!!! ;-)
And Iam totaly new to Win phones and its sooooo interesting for me!
(By) (the) (way), this is my first post!

Thank U!!!
Iam advanced user of PC Windows platform and mobile phones but only for Symbian and "not so smart ones" ;-)))
Iam totaly new to all Pocket PC/Windows Mobile thingy...If someone have some spare time just to give me some guidelines for using WM i would be gratefull
Hi!
I found out that the idea of buying a HTC Touch HD wasn't the best idea. I'm not the one who developes or who wants to configurate his phone so detailed. I'm the one who just want to use his phone. So I made the decision that an IPhone would be the better solution for me.
So i just want to ask: Is anybody here who wants to trade his IPhone for my HTC Touch HD (Blackstone) ?
(I live in Germany; could be a relevant fact for someone)
wow! well i have a friend who has an unlocked iphone 2g but i guess u may be looking for a 3g right???
how long u had your hd?
i will ask but u in germany and dude is in the US lol hummm? dunno!!!
I'm interested, but I live in the UK. Are you going to visit London any time soon ?
After 10 years of nokias the n97 finally pushed me over the edge and i am expecting my new hd2 in the post today.Just a question about updating it.After installing the new 1.66 rom do i have to install any other htc official updates or are they all included in the new rom?
Is there a way to check for new updates on the device or do you have to check the htc site all the time?
Also whats this i read about updating the radio. What does this do?
Haha just like my story, my last Nokia was the N97 .. look what they did, they made us nokia users divert to another phone company.
Welcome aboard
Im not sure about the last question, but regarding the first, a fellow good user told me that you most likely not need the official updates, but you can check in the HTC support for the versions they support. Most of them are 1.59 or below, so in that case you dont need them
I think you need to check their support page, or the RSS feed there. Dont know if there is another way.
Hope I helped a bit.
1. First of all congrats to your decision to leave Nokia and move over to HTC - you'll never regret this, I guess...
2. Please use search-function in the future. You have only to install hotfixes that are needed for your ROM-version - so if e.g. on the HTC-page is written sth. like "needed for version <1.6" then you haven't to reinstall these hotfixes again with ROM 1.66 (installation wouldn't work anyway).
3. To check if there are new updates availabel, you have to visit HTC-website (support section) - you can put an RSS-feed onto your phone to check it also - this is my solution. Better it is to visit this thite here XDA-Developers often, and you'll get also informed and beneath this lot of feedback according the updates.
4. RADIO is the firmware for the receiver unit aso. - it is responsible for reception (GSM, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS etc.), very important for battery consumption and also responsible for a couple of other things like sound (not sure about these other things to be honest).
Hope this helps for the beginning.

+1 here
after tons of nokias, and painful waiting 7 months o release date of n97, i said googbye to nokia.
i gues they would need to make space shuttle in a phone to get me back
For me it's the same, too. After Nokia N70 and E90 Communicator, I also went to HTC. But I had two Pocket PCs more than ten years ago (Casio Cassiopeia), so finally meeting Windows Mobile again.
Same here.. My last phone was n97.. Didnt regret after changing to this phone and i just love my HD2 more and more as time goes by..
I was a devoted Nokia man for years, until one day I saw the Touch Diamond and was overcome with lust. I had my Diamond for a while, then a HD, and now the HD2. I can't imagine ever going back to Nokia now, but I'll always be fond of them.

My story almost the same. I had some Nokias, the last one was N95 and I then I bought a HTC Touch Diamond which... I generally hated . But it had a great GPS receiver and was very small so I was using it quite a while (for a year I guess) and now I'm using HD2 and I'm very happy with it although at first I was a little bit sceptic as I wasn't happy with my Diamond. Anyway in general HD2 is a great phone and I didn;t have some irritating problems with it so I would recommend it to anybody.
Same here, After years of Nokia and Symbian.. The N97 made me Mad ..
So here im HtC HD2
And i Love the Phone..
You've all been slow, look below at how long ago I did that move
hello guys i've beeen a hard core nokia user and after 12 yrs of nokia marriage i divorced it when there was no sign of a new communicator.....
same story here. From the N97 to HD2. Best choice ever. Nokia user for about 10years, but its very doubtful that i will ever go back to Nokia again after the N97 experience. The new flagship after the N95 failed bigtime.
Add another one to the list. I was using the Nokia 5530, and I just sold it on Saturday (literally) to help finance my HD2 purchase. I'll soon join the ranks, and as my wife just said to before I saw this post, "I don't want to ever buy another Nokia phone."
I agree. Symbian drove me crazy. None of these models have enough system memory to function well enough. The N97 is a disaster.
I'm glad I found this forum, because otherwise I would not have known how customizable the HD2 really is, and the fact that it runs Windows Mobile would have caused me to shy away from it.
just settings up the new phone . I have got a major problem hope someone can help

He he this is turning in to an Ex-N97 owners convention.
I'm in too and on a brighter note my wife loves it
does it worth it ?
you guys sujest me to buy this phone or get iphone?!
i really dont know to pay alot.
looking some good phone in max 250 $
so this phone is good ? the diamons 2 = sensitivty of iphone ?
what should i buy?
any 1 ? 40 views no one replay.
the diamond 2 is good phone ? right now i have the kaiser
but i wonder which is better
wm with diamond 2 or some magic or hero with android
I would get a 1gb android phone before I would but the TD2, but it is still a great phone, especially compared to the Kaiser.
TD2 is a good phone, but has issues with the earpiece (appears that it breaks easily) and in general, HTC touchscreens dont seem to be of a very good quality (-> Newton rings).
I think I would buy a Samsung Wave S8500 (because of the amoled display), if not, definitely an adroid device.
Go for the iphone!!! all of the reasons that i didnt buy one have been changed/fixed by apple and im ready to switch. Ill sell you my perfectly good but slightly used TD2 for 100.00. if you dont want the iphone, but ill tell you now, if you want to stay with the at$t rom it sucks, and as soon as you start flashing other roms, you might as well resign yourself to the fact that your gonna be dealing with lock ups, and constant reboots every day, if you use it alot. ITS NOT THE FAULT OF THE FABULOUS CHEFS THAT WE HAVE HERE, its the slow processor and the crappy hardware. So choose wisely, if you only want to spend 180 on 1+ year old technology (and thats ancient by todays standards) dont expect much. I was sorry that i spent the money to upgrade my Kaiser to the TD2, other than size, there wasnt much upgrade about it.
Hope that helps
Alan
I had a Kaiser and now have a TD2. Like the others have said. Its a good phone. (if you turn off the HTC UI) the battery lasts a little longer and the phone is more responsive.
Im about to upgrade will be probably getting a HTC Desire or HTC Desire HD
I have a TD2, picked it up new for about $150. Very good for the money, loaded Energy WM6.5 ROM with sense2.1 & it runs perfect & is quite fast in most tasks.
With the button mapping driver and a few other good tweeks it is a really easy device to use.
If you are experienced with tweaking HTC/WM devices then this can be a very capable device & a bargain if you hunt around for a clearance deal.
Most other options will be a lot more expensive but a TD2 is not a bad buy for the right money
hey guys thanks all for the answer well the iphone is more expancive
for 100-200 $ i think diamond 2 will be good replace to my kaiser even if its windows mobile
and i am pracitce in upgrade roms all the time
kaiser need good room to fucntion .
i love my phone but he have some bugs and work slowly i think the diamond 2 will be good replace
even tho i dont need the keyboard of kaiser. never used it ;P
its great phone but heavy and not nice to go with him on the streets
i wonder which phone is better. iphone diaond 2 htc hero and which has the best sensitiviy
my sister has a milestone and trust me the milestone is fantastic with the androaid program.
but i love htc so much cant get out from it
dont know about the hero, but my new iphone 4 is way more responsive, and speedy than my TD2. Good luck with your new phone!
VonH
thanks lool but the iphone 4 is much more expensive than every other htc
btw if you tell me that i can buy diamond 2 in 100$ i buy it now
