Contrast/color difference between two Magic phones - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Hi,
I have two HT Magics, white one (32B), branded by British Vodafone, and black one (32A), branded by Polish Orange. There is a huge difference between them in a matter of screen contrast. Black Magic has lower contrast, colors are more yellow than on the white Magic. It looks like a different white balance between them. I am not sure if it is possible to adjust contrast or white balance for such screens as it is possible for computer monitors? Of course adjusting brightness from the phone's menu does not let me to get what I want. Maybe loading a new software will change the contrast of the screen?
Do you have two Magics and notice the same?
On the black Magic, with poor contrast, I have Android 1.5, white one has Android 1.6 on board.

[Q] Black DHD

Has anyone actually SEEN the elusive Black DHD?
I have my DHD on order, just got at notice that it is in the mail tomorrow and that it is the BLACK DHD. I am curious to see it.
If anyone is interested, I will of course post pics when it arrives, hopefully tomorrow evening.
I do not get your question. The only color I can order is black.
It only comes in the one colour which is a very dark brown which in some images appears as black depending on the lighting.
I hear that there is a 'dark brown' version AND a solid black version - as there is of the Desire itself I believe
So I got my DHD, and I am honestly not sure what color to call it.
To me, it looks more charcoal than either black or brown.
Call it gunmetal
Btw, forget all ideas about one black phone and that other one, there is ONLY ONE and it's dark brow/greynish color and black, looks very nice. Many people think there is a total black version but there isnt, its just different mixes when taking photos of ot, lot of it photoshop fixed i guess, so just forget about a total black version in the near future. I think this is pretty black.. gunmetal kinda look, it looks much better then it would in black only.
I'm not sure HTC know their colours very well. My desire was "dark brown" but was actually a shade of purpley gunmetal and my Desire HD was also advertised as "dark brown" but has the same purpley gunmetal at the back.
If there's one thing HTC does well, it's confuse forums all over the internet as to what colours their phones come in.
I've only seen it marketed as "Mocha" or "Black"
I've got the black one.
It's about the same black as the back cover of the HD2.

Could you take a photo of it next to a brown one for comparison please? Go into any shop selling the Desire HD - all the ones in the shops are the same colour as mine, which is a brown/charcoal/black.
And no photo editing please
Edit, rezize and crop is accepted

You'll get people stretching pairs of tights over their camera lens or similar things instead!
I think everyone has now come to accept there is only one colour, whether it's advertised as black, mocha, graphite or brown.

Printed Label On Box
Guys
Does it tell you the colour on the printed label stuck to the box?
I pre-ordered mine from Play.com and when it came it honestly had no hint of brown whatsoever. If not black, it was a charcoal colour. Anyway, I had to send it back because it was faulty (kept rebooting when in standby for only a few secs) and I'm now seeing a lot of stores advertising it as brown/mocha. Unfortunately I no longer have the box so I can't check this, but with my HTC Hero the sticker on the box which has the barcodes printed on it states "HTC Hero White" so I'm wondering if any of your boxes have the colour printed on the label, something like "HTC Desire HD Mocha" etc.
If your box does have the colour printed on the label, please state it here and say what colour you would call the phone. Should help clear up whether there is only the one colour.
Cheers.
P.S. GSM Arena also state that the phone is available in two colours, black and brown.

im pretty sure its still 1 colour, i think it depends on the lighting more than anything however the one i used in vodafone looked black to me but it was a very dark show room so could just be lighting meh, brown or black the colour is close and the device inside it is still the same so does it matter ?
its not like the hero that came in black, white, pink ect.... black and brown are so close it barely matters in this case imo

Battery

On LCD screens (as our hd2) white uses LESS power.
On AMOLED screens (omnia 7) white uses MORE power.
HD2's a white background is best for conserving and attaining maximum battery life.

Thanks, this i checked just 2days before one day i kept backgroud light and dark which differs in battery backup of 2hours(more in white) , this i checked because while googling i came to know that dark colors accents best for battery ,so in that test this is a part, anyway i came to know the exact reason behind that . thanks
By switching your HD2 screen to completely white you would save about 3% of your battery. You can't change your HD2 screen to completely white as the live tiles cover about 2/3's of your screen. So by switching to a white background you would save only about 1% of your battery.
Too fast.....

You're assuming different colours use the same amount of energy as black, just as most people assumed a black screen uses less than a white one. Tch Tch Tch.
Does anybody want to do a scientific comparison of the energy consumptions of differently coloured tiles on black and white screens respectively??

You're wrong in your assumption, you don't compare apples and oranges. I'm comparing two identical phones, the only difference is one is using a black background and the other is using a white background.
Also I said by switching your background from black to white, I didn't mention switch any themes or anything else.
did anybody catch the word "backlight" the screen its self, ie, what is displayed isnt really an issue, the backlight sits behind the LCD screen, much the same way as it does on a TV or a laptop, for that reason you may have noticed that it is impossible for an LCD screen to display a black screen, it cant because it has a light behind it and the mask from the LCD panel comes out gray or washed out black.
Anyhow, any difference in the power consumption will be either down to the brightness settings or how much activity is on the LCD screen. more changes would equal more power, black has a single consistant change white does not have any as such, but as pointed out, the tile page will always be covered in something and thus would never be completely white. there may well be a difference between different colours/black in terms of powerusage but compared to the VERY BRIGHT backlight it would be tiny amounts of difference
in short, turn the brightness down and save a meaningful amount of power. fiddle with the colours and you could probably count the number of min savd on your hands

2.3.3 color change

I am looking for honest opinions about the color change to the Nexus S display with the 2.3.3 update. I have heard very many people complaining and not liking the new color scheme. THis is key to whether I allow my nexus to update or not. If anybody can give me any opinions regarding this I will greatly apprectiate it. Also, what exactly was wrong with the original color scheme to begin with?
I've been lurking for a while now, but I suppose it's high time that I start contributing around here!
I think the update's colors are fine. Breaking it down, the 2.3.2 and below colors were a bit reddish in my eyes. While you couldn't tell for the most part, if you use a program like Screen Filter and get the screen to be very dim, there would be a very purple tint to the screen.
The update removed the purple tint, but a lot of people (the ones you refer to) began complaining about a yellowish tint and washed out colors. The yellowish tint is noticeable, especially when I compare white between the Nexus S and either my computer or an iPhone 3GS. In my eyes, it's not *that* yellow, and the screen overall looks better than it did pre-update. The washed out effect I really haven't noticed, though I do think that after installing netarchy's kernel, the colors do pop a little bit more.
Overall, I'm not a terribly picky person, but I do think that 2.3.3+Voodoo color looks better than 2.3.2 or stock 2.3.3.
Jeff's right. 2.3.3 stock colors aren't bad at all. I actually like it over the purplish colors of 2.3.2. Plus I think the lowest brightness levels have been darker than 2.3.2.

You can't compare your super amoled screen to a computer monitor or an iPhone. When making this kinda comparison, you should compare with another similiar galaxy s phone or N1 that doesn't have the purplish tint issue. With that being said, the reason why colors looks washed out to some after the update is because, before the update most of us was used to the grays being purple so alot of images that had this certain shade of gray would display purple. Now after the update, those images that we're used to looking at with the purplish issue are now all of a sudden displaying it's true color of grays, which causes the images to appear washed out. The update does provide the correct color calibrations. Also keep in mind the these screens are not consistently manufactured the same. So even tho the update provides the correct color calibration, the outcome still may vary depending on the condition of the manufactured screen which explains why some are experiencing extreme yellowish discoloration.
Sent from my Nexus S
my brother bought a nexus S used few days ago. it was on 2.3.2
on high brightness, the white was perfect white " no yellow tint on it. perfect white.
however on low settings, it used to have pink tint that is more clear on gray colors.
so he updated to 2.3.3, the pink is gone. but now the screen has this " yellow " tint to it that makes the creen looks washed out. the blue not really a blue . its lighter blue, and the white on high setting is like yellow white.
however, he updated the karnel i think with one from voodoo where he can pick between 2 color profiles " forgot the name of the karnel but its in xda "
now the screen is back to how it was on 2.3.2 with its white " no yellowish" and when he pick the color profile for the low settings, the pink is also gone . no more pink on low settings and yellow on high settings. its actually perfect.
i assume if your phone has yellow issue on 2.3.2, then you are probably screwed. as there is no fix to that. the voodoo will only return the white to how it was on 2.3.2
but if your white was perfect and you have a problem with the pink, then look for the karnel, you will lose your pink plus the perfect white will come back agian

HTC one screen color differences

I was having problems with my HTC one silver device, and AT&T sent a black replacement, so I got the chance to compare this two devices before I send on e of them back.
The only difference I noticed beside the color, is that the black one's screen's color seemed to be more realistic and displays the color white much better. And the silver one's screen's color seemed kind of darker, and when displaying the color white, it appears to be shifting to yellow. And the differences are VERY big!
I am sure it is not a simple difference between a silver device and a black one, and It looks like HTC One's quality control and quality consistency are really in doubt...
The One might be coming with different screen manufactures.
Also having a silver bezel opposed to a black bezel, can change the way we see things, one of the reasons i bought a black version.
