Backing Up System Ringtunes/Alerts/Alarms - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Hi everyone,
I'm going to be flashing the myHero or Cyanognen ROM on my HTC Magic (32A) soon and I was wondering, before I do that, how would I backup the default ringtones/alerts/alarms on the original ROM that came on my phone? I'd like to keep all my sound notifications to be the same whenever I flash the new ROM, just because I've grown used to them now and like them.

your answer Sashimi
it saves or can save tons of settings.
if you need more help with this send me a PM

Create a folder structure like this in your SD card:
\media\audio\ringtones
Copy the ringtones in there, and they will automatically be availble when you flash another rom.
You can do the same thing for \media\audio\notifications and \media\audio\alarms.
You can get the stock ones from \system\media\audio\ringtones. I would use Astro to do the file copy (from Android Market)

Thanks guys! Appreciate the help a lot.

SD CARD apps after New rom Install

My brother is about to install a new rom. But he has HANDY SAFE installed on the SD card.
What would happen if he installed a new rom?
Would the application have to be re-installed?
Also, it is a legitimate copy of handy safe, would he be able to re-activate it.
the program files will still be there just there will not be the shortcut to run it but i dont know how to make new ones but you can look through the files and start it from there.
Just throw a shortcut in device\windows\startmenu\programs (or a custom folder under that if wanted). As long as it doesn't install anything to the actual phone, he should be fine (i'm not familiar with the app)

Hey thats it. But you can also create an folder @ SD card with your preferred apps. Youse apk extractor or anything else which let's you extract an apk file... Fx can do it also. Nice tools get from fdroid repo..
You must extract apk from running system or unzipped....

[Q] How do you managed your ROMs

with so many versions coming out & the trying & testing is never ending how do you managed which ROM your using
for SD ROM
- do you change the the zip file name of the ROM to "ICS", "ICS1", "Android" "Tosti" or "Para" or leave the name as it is in the zip format.
- do you re-use data.ext4 from previous versions or always use a new one?
- do you place multi-versions of ROM in your SD or do you do it 1 at a time?
thanks for sharing your thoughts & many thanks to the dev's & chef & hoping you have more kitchens to come

i just rename my cwm backups right after i do the backup when ive got the rom
set up the way i want it
example .....2012-05-23.02.40.32-tosti-1-1-marc
if i changed the kernal then i would do a backup and rename with the name of the kernel or version number of the rom
then pull the backups off the phone and put them on my hd

[Q] Can you make a .zip from your ROM?

Hy all, I just wanted to ask if I can actually make a backup or save my actual rom with all my configuration (not the sd card data stuff since I know I can copy paste that in or out ^^) Im actually with a custom rom which is great and I've changed stuff from system/ usr and I would like to be saved as well the real question is..
CAN I MAKE A .ZIP OF EXACTLY WHAT'S IN MY PHONE RIGHT NOW? A PERSONAL ROM WHITH ALL THE CONFIG SAVED?
Thank you for the help ^^ did the MAYUS for the people that don't want to read a lot
Of course you can. It`s called nandroid back-up. You can find it in your custom recovery.

Always store your backup file in a computer right after backing up, never just assume that you won't lose it after installing a new ROM.
Like JJEgan said, always backup using recovery.
I would just keep looking in your files (maybe you moved the file...?) or just plain leave it for dead.
A fresh start is sometimes the way to go
