King Klair Hero 0.6.01
First and Foremost this build was ported by Mssmison and the ril(radio interface layer), and audio libraries were written by Vilord!!! im pretty sure the gps library was written by Srwalter. vilord may have helped port it to eclair. (will get back to you on that). without DZO we would still be using windows mobile "" but were not ""

market
gmail
what doesn't:
camera
bluetooth
gtalk
get more widgets
!!!THIS IS JUST A SQUASHFS BUILD AND MATCHING ROOTFS NO NAND!!!
This is too big to flash to the nand right now!
will add screenies later
for those brave souls:
0.6.01(few modifications by vilord to init.rc)

Man, i love you...........
also big thanks to vilord, dzo srwalter and everyone i forget
Lookis like I gotta flash windows back to the Nand! Cant wait to try this out!
hey all, so uploaded to the sourceforge fileshare is an updated rootfs and another copy of this, version 0.6.01 I guess? should be no changes, but I haven't been able to test as I'm already late for work.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/androidhtc/files/
Oh yeah and yes I spent a few hours getting libaudio to where it is now, RIL require many MANY hours, but fortunately I'd already done that work, and it was a drop in with eclair... GPS is srwalter all the way, just a drop in here... the zImage has had many contributors, but mostly dzo.
contact sync should work, it works great on my end.
should this work on kaiser, too?
Hi,
How do we connect to the internet? It tells me to insert a sim card, but my phone is CDMA. I create an APN, but it still tells me to insert a sim card. Is there a work around for this?
Thanks.

ive only tested it at 320x480 i didnt think about 240x320. try changing the density to 120 if your are using 240x320

Not entirely sure how that would fix the network issue. I originally had my res at 320x480 and 160 density and it still instructed me to inset a sim card. I have no data connection at all.
Looks good. Once the initial FCs go away it runs quite smoothly.
First issue I found was that the HTC Exchange app seems to be broken. It won't connect to the server.

I did originally also ask a question about resolution . But yes, I have no connection either.
UMMM....WOWW! McLovin it!! No sms errors er nothin!!
Great work!!
I have this partially working on the Kaiser, so I started a Kaiser thread about it.
Oh man, have you guys watched this build boot over adb? I think it's been 20 minutes and it's still churning these out:
Code:
V/MediaProvider( 1734): we got work to do for checkThumbnail: /sdcard/My Documents/My Pictures/IMAGE_261.jpg, there are still 130 tasks left in queue
E/MiniThumbFile( 1734): couldn't save mini thumbnail data for 88; disk full or mount read-only? class java.lang.NullPointerException
My sd card's not full, but it seems to be attempting to create thumbnails for ALL the photos on my SD card, but it can't, so it just goes on forever...
I'm also getting a lot of these after boot:
Code:
I/dalvikvm( 3020): Wrote stack trace to '/data/anr/traces.txt'
Should it be stack tracing? Do you guys want these logs?
The stack traces are probably for the NullPointerExceptions the thumbnailer is getting.
The swap on SDcard is activated in the custom.user.conf uploaded on sourceforge, isn't it?
I've read many times that it's not good for the SD. Can we use this conf file risk free or it's preferable to use a standard conf without swap?
By the way, thanks for this new hero build
No tattoo in the pipe?
@bri3d:
I don't think the stack traces are related to the thumbnails, the stack traces happen after the thumbnailing is finished, I haven't noticed a pattern yet. I also get a ton of WiMax daemon errors where it tries to start itself but can't, and tries to kill itself but can't since it never started. This build is still defnitely beta.
@Kiiv:
Hero builds are basically unusable without swap, if you don't want to use swap I suggest you use a normal Donut or Eclair build.
If you are worried about your SD card's life you can create a linux-swap partition as the last partition on your card and use the conf settings for swap partition. This is the setup I have, and you can grab an example conf file from my Kaiser thread for this build.
Thanks for the answer
I already have a swap partition, but I thought that break the SD card too..
This build is very promising, run very fast with swap.
I wouldn't worry too much about swap on the SD card - yes, it increases wear - anything which writes frequently to any type of flash memory is going to do that.
On the flip side, I've also never ever had a card go bad - wear-leveling and badblock marking keeps errors to a minimum these days.
I've seen consumer electronics do far, far worse silently - one media player settop I've messed with mounts an ext2 filesystem using a raw page driver (no wear-levelling) over and over - even if the FS is never written to it's hitting the same mount time bits every single time it boots.
Also, GBs of microSD are incredibly cheap now, and as long as you back up your important data it's not going to kill you to lose a card.
I keep getting a failed to find system.img on SD card errors.
I tried to rename system.sqsh to system.img and still no luck
does anyone know why when i run this it only loads up to the htc screen and then it just stays there? the htc animation keeps goin but thats all

i just got my storage card nuked and i think it was by "save attachments on storage card" .. its cleanswept except for some attachment dir and a WMDRM dir.. anyone experienced this before?
Im curious if there is a way to save my storage card like file recovery for windows!?!? I've had smartphone for 2 years and never experienced such (nor used the mail portion) .. its really a drag if this is normal wm5 behavior.
anyways two questions:
- is a way to generally clone a qtek9100 with all regs and storage
- is there a way to recover lost files if nothing else is written to car? (so called quick formats)

Backup apps:
SPB Backup - www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/backup/?en
Sunnysoft Backup Manager - www.sunnysoft.cz/en_clanek.php?clanekid=51
Sprite Backup - www.spritesoftware.com/pocketpc.php
Or, otherwise, copy all files over, and export the registry using Tascal Registry Editor or so. Restoring would likely be iffy, though.. e.g. overwriting the Pocket Outlook database and such - if it can be done.

Yes - there's dedicated software for this. I got one from Sandisk that came with their 1GB Ultra III compactflash card that I've got in my camera next to a 2GB memorystick.
http://www.lc-tech.com/software/rprowindetail.html
as for the nuking, I assume now it was something todo with windows mediea player and device syncronization which hadnt fully initiated ..
anyways, when you tlak of recovery what do you mean, as the link you post leads to pc software.
u put sd card in camera and mount as usb and run pc software to recover?
sprite backup seems to be very nice and feature rich.
I just had the exact same thing happen to me...was just left with the attachments directory.
The good news is that the SD card shows that there is 250MB used so i know the files are there...i just cant see them. I'm trying that SD program referenced in the last post to see if i can at least see the files.
Unfortunately, all my backups are on the SD card itself. I hadnt copied them to my HD.
wow, this is nuts - there's some serious bug lurking around!
Update on this.
I was able to recover the files with some data recovery tools. The one in this thread is useless - its meant for media files only.
I still wonder why this happened. Either way, I'm switching back Outlook attachments to main memory for a bit and see what happens.
d'oh
Well, let us know which data recovery tool you used - might come in handy for others
yup same thing happened to me... and same way, attachments on storage card
space was still missing but the files were too
didnt bother recovering though as i had backups luckily
The same happened to me twice! The first time I thought it was due to FAT FS, so i reformated it with FAT32, but it happened again.
I do have my attachements at SD, as well as I save pictures from camera to it.
BTW, the same thing happened once with my wife's iPaq 2490 (attachement at SD).
As for fixing: just use standard MS Windows checkdsk (or use Check now from drive options) if you have a card reader. It saves all files to FOUND directory (but, unfortunately, it renames it to strange names, so you'll have to find out what is what)
If this happens to you, FinalData Enterprise and EasyRecovery Pro are known to recover files very well. They will find all files and filenames. They wont restore the top level folder names but if you dont have many, you can change them yourself. More important to me were the lower level filenames and the integrity of those files.
Most of the other trial recovery programs i used couldnt do what these two products could. They typically just showed a bunch of .chk files or else tried to recover media files only.
I still want to know how this happened and if there's a way to replicate the problem. There's some nasty Outlook bug lurking around that needs to be fixed!
same thing happened to me. just realised that i have 300 meg os missing disk space that i thought had gone for ever.
can anyone recommend a freeware tool ?
Wait, my new 2gb card died 2 days ago! The Wizard won't even find it, and my PC finds it, but all the stuff on it is missing except for a couple of directories and it won't let me format it. It has to go back to China now. I'm so pissed off.
Anyone know a card recovery app?
I know the ones i mentioned earlier should work.
Someone said chkdsk may work...try that although i worry that if it recovers cross linked files (most of them are), it'll dump a bunch of useless chk files on the card.
i tried checkdisk and it didn't seem to retrieve any files. grrrrrrrrr.
Well maybe it s a bug which occurs on march 14.... because that same thing occured to my sd yesterday while I was using tt5 on the road... ;(

I'd choose SPB Backup. According to my knowledge the WM5 compatible version of Sprite Backup does not have the self extracting functionallity yet. (weird because that among other features made Sprite Backup stand tall above all other backup/clone solutions).
Hope they will include this self extracting feature soon.
2 GIG Mini SD Speed
Just got mine from Singapore yesterday. I did not format it as it came already formatted. I have noticed that playing video divx / mpg1's are very slow versus internal memory. I did the reg edits for cache size but found no real changes to media playback. Anyone out there playing with media playback on a Cingular 8125?

From experiance with this same issue on a 1gb, the card eventually starts having block failures. Fortunatly the place I bought it replaced it with another. Whatever nukes it, perminatly damaged mine. Hope in your case it didn't damage it.
I'm wondering if this is related to the reboot issue some of us are experiancing... and if it has something to do with pocket outlook or pocket windows media player 10.
Grey
Block failures are a hardware fault.
The only way you could induce one with software would be to rewrite the same location more than ~1m times, which would cause it to fail - flash has a limited lifetime, although the limit is very high.
So let me get this straight:
REGARDLESS of the BRAND of the miniSD card, the Wizard HAVE an ISSUE whereby, if MEssaging Attachement is saved to the card, the device CAN RANDOMLY nuke the card?
I haave the same issue with my ATP miniSD card (and they're considered one of the most reliable one), but instead of nuking it, it just doesn't show the file OR...worst... rename the card to "Storage CArd 2".
Depends on what people are running into.
If you're getting a corrupted card BUT you can reformat it, then it may be something with the storage card attachment thing. (I personally run with this turned on and have NOT had it happen)
If, however, the card CANNOT be reformatted - that is, its TOAST - then its NOT a software problem. The card has physically failed. Since the 2GB cards are quite new, this is entirely possible.
One other possibility - if you have a card that won't reformat first try writing a few kilobytes of zeros to it using psdwrite. If you can THEN reformat it, then the card was scrambled - it did not die.
Using "r2sd" to dump ROM images to the card has been known to interfere with reformatting to full capacity due to the internal data patterns that show up in certain places with certain ROMs. Writing a block of zeros to the front of the card will fix this, as it will wipe the data that is being misinterpreted.
After fixing a problem that I had with the newest cooked ROMs I bumped into another issue. Now every time I reset my Device my Manila works very slow for 3-4 min. I tried reflashing using MTTY with different ROMs but the problem persists. I looked in my Task Manager and discovered a process that overloads my CPU. Please find screen capture attached. I would appreciate any suggestions.

It seems to me you are refferring to the "System Idle" thread, that you will also find on Windows based PC. This is not actullay using your CPU. The problem is probably that you have a large SD card in your phone, and when you boot it is scanning for music, documents and pictures for the respective tabs. I remember when I had my kitchen stored on my SD card (500k files +) it would take forever to load manilla, now with a couple of GB of music/pictures it only takes a short time to get up and running. Hope that helps.
As a test, start your phone up without the SD card in and see if you notice a diference

100% correct! Thank you very much for that! I am using 16GB Micro SD and it's full of books, music and program backups. Is thate any way of preventing tha scan to interfere with the Manila..
As far as I know, No. Sorry, it has to do that to work Im still trying to find out how to get my music tab to load quicker :s
What about getting a quicker transfer Micro SD? I noticed that when I plug my phone into my car stereo via USB the playback is breaking.. Maybe my card is too slow..Anyways thanks for the reply! Owe u one!
Too true on the transfer speeds, am contemplating a 16GB class 6, but $90!

currently only running an 8GB class 2 but seems to be okay, tidied it up the other day and have noticed a bit of an improvement

Hi anomandrus, did you remove the folder \Application Data from SD Card before or immediately after flashing new ROM? If that folder contains email attachments from a previous ROM then it will make Manila move at a snail pace, it also has the ability to create other strange anomalies like lockups and auto resets, just try to remove that folder and softreset then hopefully for you it should be ok again.

Nope.. Never thought of that! I,ve deleted it now and made softreset. Also compressed my icon collection in a *.zip folder. I notice there is an improvement. The Idle process takes shorter time to complete. My Micro SD card is class 2 (sloooow ) so I still have a bit of problems on start up but much better now. I think I'm gonna change it! Thank u very much guys! Your help is much appreciated!
Sorry for the loing post, bare with me
I have installed FRF50 when it came out, after a few day when doing an update of a few app in the market I had one stuck at installation, even after reboot when I tried to update it again it did the same, after a few cleanup of my download folder and retry all the app that where encrypted in the app2sd folder (not sure of the exact folder name) where not properly decrypted by the OS, at the time I taught nothing of it and reinstalled everything (froyo image + reconfig) to do a fresh start with froyo, I also reformatted my SD card to be on the safe side... and had no issue since then...
Then came FRF72, did the exact same problem yesterday and I was able to restart the SD (if I can say so) after a few reboot.
Today same issue is back, but no go so far, all app that belong to flash are there with a generic icon, they appear on the list of app in the SD section but without their icon, it really look like if the OS is not able to decrypt them (If I understand correctly that was the stupid way google decided to implement some kind of DRM on the flash memory)
I am seriously thinkiing about going back to CM and the old way of EXT4 app2sd, it was working ok...
I've had this occur after upgrading to FRF72, it's probably because the OS didn't manage to detect the apps correctly. To solve it, I just plugged in my USB cable, mounted the SD card and then unmounting it after it showed up correctly as a removable drive on my laptop. After waiting a while for the OS to scan the card (check logcat to verify that apps are indeed being scanned one by one), my apps were back.
Another test...
Rebooted the phone without the SD, then shutdown and reboot with the SD, no change but...
If I connect the USB cable, the computer see the new drive right away (it use to take a few second after enabling the USB sharing) but is is not usable and I see no notification of the USB, that's a really weird bug...
if anybody have some idea, I know from my first encounter with this issue that changing the SD card will not fix this either...
@ Zanglang
Thanks for the sugestion, but the PC doesn't see the card, my terminal was on the flash mem and I can not install new app from market
trying a nandroid from the Recovery now... BAD DROID...
I had a problem on Frf50 with app icons turning generic and disappearing from 3d app rolodex. They were still accessible from the generic icons.
Now on Frf72 and issue seems to have subsided. Everything is where it should be. This time around i only added apps to sd they were allowable to move, i didnt force anything. When i first talked about it a while back i heard it was a bug as well as learned that certain things shouldnt go on the SD altogether. Now that i got that straightened out im good and feel like i learned something. lol
crap, no recovery

Yeah, the funny part is that I did not move rom manager and I did not move anything like widget etc, I am frustrated by Google stupid way of handling memory extension tho... as for not forcing any app i am fine with the idea however too many app are not updated and it piss me off to go thru all app to move them by hand...
What's the point of encrypting the app moved to SD anyway... I can't believe how stupid this is, I hope Cyanogen will find a way to disable this altogether...

Well now some of the icons have disappeared again. LOL.
These were all allowable by FRF72. Only one that hasnt changed yet is titanium backup. I tried, thought it was gonna hold.
I managed to do a recovery, I swapped the SD with another one and moved everything from the protected dir of the old card to the new one and all the icon came back.
When checking in the app manager, I noticed a few file marked as flash, I deleted a few and it seem ok but the one in the SD section are still not all there, and some display calculating as in the properties field forever...
So far
Froyo = 7/10 (3 total crash so far all related to the new memory management) since I used the PM setInstallLocation 2 I am not putting 0...
Cyanogen = 9/10
I am really curious to see what he will do with flash memory management!
Now running FRF83 with the first SD untouched, I recovered my nandroid then directly flashed to FRF83 from Paul, all app are there... I am also reverting to setIntallLocation 0 to see if there's improvement...
Having similar issues right now on the latest update with setinstalllocation 2. I guess I have to f around with it to get this to work again. What a pain.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
adb setinstalllocation 2 doesn't seem to do much but make it seem like many apps are actually being installed on the sd card when they are in fact not.
I decided to investigate when I noticed my phone storage at 32mb of internal storage free. Installed flash player. I went to manage applications, installed on sd tab had all 7.7 megs on the sd card. I went to uninstall, the application freed up internal phone storage, all 7.7 megs on uninstall.
I don't believe this method actually does anything useful unless its an app that already allows store to sd.. which is few and far between. Furthermore you don't know what's really an app that supports that now and what isn't because most of the apps now show up in the "on sd" tab of managed applications.
I could be wrong, plan on testing some more soon.. busy for the rest of the day. Will report back

The files are encrypted and placed in .android_secure in the root of the SD card (when I crashed that dir had 350MB size...)
so they are there, but I agree that phone memory still didn't get freed as much as it should as well, I suspect it's the way the OS had to place thumbstone so that they appear in the app manager
Also I noticed that they seem to have some kind of naming convention {com.dooblou.WiFiFileExplorerPRO-2} vs {cn.mobgo.filego-1} where some have -2 and other are -1
either way I reformatted and started again from scratch (well partially, titanium backup is very usefull) this time without forcing usage of the SD card I already feel the pain of having to go thru each and every app to toggle the move to sd and this is when it simply doesn't support the feature yet...
I really think that this app 2 sd implementation sucks big time, oh did I mention that the way google implemented it's memory expansion sucks... Also the way they implemented encryption mean that you could end up with a backup from a broken phone not working on a new phone which is quite something, almost sound like an Apple Feature...
They could have to the very least added a tab in the app manager so that we can easily manage the said so option... and made an external app that could decrypt the app moved to flash for backup purpose

Yeah it's a pretty terrible implementation. I think eventually it'll be some sort of transparent thing that the user will never see if the app developer enables it but for the time being it blows big time.
Maybe this is why Froyo hasn't yet released.... Wider audience and feedback on A2SD.
I suspect it'll either get fixed or yanked for 2.2.
I had to reinstall all the apps I moved to the SD card.
Had the same problem with FRF76..all of a sudden I couldn't install new apps from the market...soooo, what I did was:
- downgrade to CM5.0.8
- save all of my apps to apps2sd
- deleted app secure folder
- upgrade to rodrigurez r19 rom with older style apps2sd.
- now, I have all my apps n new ones my sd card n yeap..even widgets are working..

I hope so, A guy has made a great program to move the app to SD, however on my phone I can move like 10% of all I have installed, I just had to delete co-pilot to be able to install swype
What's weird is that their protected folder system even compress the app, but as far as I am concerned I do not need more space on my SD since almost nothing can be moved there anyway... and even if, I could update my SD as needed...
Ok... I have been a member for awhile, reading this and that...
I have been using WM based phones ever since i could remember (minus a small sidekick phase). So, when I found out that WM7 wasnt avail for my HD2... I was quite upset.
I decided to take the plunge and try Android for my SD card. W O W!!!!
Very fast, & functionable. I have stayed away for installing roms and such because of their instability. But this is absolutely beautiful.
Now i haven't updated to the new release that came out this morning, and was wondering if i should because i have been having some small issues.
1. When running WM6.5 since the install, i have had a problem with messages updating on main screen, don't know if it is related or not.
2. This was a fresh install of WM6.5 along with an SD card format. I am not allowed to store any info on card anymore. It's a 16g card, and I don't like to waste space. I no longer have a place for my tunes..... not cool. Not to mention can't store pics, and all the movies I burned via DVDFab.
3. Now I have read that there is a way to 'partition' my SD card, but there are so many ways to do this. I would like to do this with the best way/program so i dont fry my card. Link to the most stable way of doing this would be appreciated.
4. Now as impressed with AmeriCanAndriod as I am.. I have a question about the lockscreen... It is NOT about it's size/fullscreen as i have read on here... But when i walk away and it appearantly locks itself, it goes BLACK. the buttons on the device still light up, but screen will not activate and i have to end up pulling the battery. I have read that this is not advisable since shutting down is where the OS saves it's data to the SD card itself.
Yes, I am as green as it comes to this, but I am not a complete fool. I do try and look up issues pertaining to my problems. I can strip a PC down and rebuild it again in minutes, but phones are new to my tinkering. I love my HD2, and love all the things I have read I can do with it.
I understand that the forced close issue has been rectified in the build released this morning. Can this be confirmed????
Also will I be able to save the data.img and restore my apps and settings i have installed if I want to update to the new release?
Partitioning the SD... Will it cause me to reformat card and have to re-install Andoid on phone?
LASTLY..... Thank You to the AmeriCanAndroid Tean for making a beautiful OS that can easily be installed. Having a dual boot system is perfect for me. All the power and funtionabilty of WM & all the fun of Android. You couldn't ask for more. All the talent in this OS truly shows in this streamless, beautiful, user friendly system.

First off, this is not the place where to post. You should post in the builds own thread located here. Second i know that black screen happens to me as well but what i do is leave it for about 3 min on standby and its cleared up by then. Make sure to have the latest build from the thread mentioned above. And yes you will be able to keep the same data.img from the previous release unless specified. Partition yes you will format but simply drag and your Android folder to your desktop and once you're done drag it back in simple.
Thank You for the reply. I was going to post in the AmeriCanAndroid thread, but since this is my first post. I had a popup tell me I had to post HERE, instead of that thread until I reach 10 posts.
If a Moderator wishes to move this, I have no problems with that. I wanted to post where it was most relevant in the first place. I just want to be able to reply without the 'newbe' restrictions.
Relieved that I can save my things, by saving the data.img file.
Partitioning, would love a link to the best/safest method.
Blackscreen.. So I just hit a button and leave it for awhile? That's not very practical if I had a buisness call to make, or an emergency. Is there a workaround? Can I shut off the Auto Lock?
What folder do I add music, ringtones, movies and other goodies to? Can WM 7 Android share these same files? (as long as they're not OS specific obviously)
Ah, i see your reasoning, no problem. A good guide on partitioning that i used as well can be found here. And well there inst really a fix to the black screen problem and i haven't searched for one since it only happens on boot of Android. What seems to make it come back faster for me is locking and unlocking the phone quickly. And you can just place a folder and name it anything you want on the root of the SD card. Heck you can put all your mp3,photos,documents on the root of the SD card and Android will still pick them up, it doesn't matter. And when you say "Share" do you mean Bluetooth sending? Then yes, you can.
Nope... SD card will not let me install anything while i was hook to puter. I was running WM at the time, not android. That shouldn't have been a problem. I am about to hook SD card directly to copmuter itself and copy files that way.
I have had all music located on card before this install, nicely organized by artist or genre, along with my movies, pics, etc. But wont allow me to do this now. I am little confused about that, unless android locked SD/root to android application only. Since most programs that lock things usually prompt you for user allowances, which i did not see, i am ruling that out as an option. Phones and computers are very similar as i am finding out.
The blackscreen doesn't occur on Droid boot... It happens when it sleeps, hibernates, or whatever you call it. Can not wake it from this state.
The Data.img.... Do i put that in after i update and run android, or do i put it in the very begining when i copy droid folder to SD card?
Thanx

Yup, android put a 'write protect' on SD card. Trying some format tools now. Had to put a re-partiton on it to get rid of protection, which made it a Bad Disk. So trying a recovery on it now. I refuse to be beatin by an object smaller than my thumbnail. Arrrgh!
Android does not lock the SD card to application only, that's very odd that you cant copy files to the SD card. Maybe its a setting on your computer that wont allow you? And about the black screen problem, there seems to be no one reporting about that on the thread as far i can see. Are you running SetCPU or a Task Killer by any chance? Those make Android behave very odd. If not i would suggest downloading the latest build again and formatting your SD Card and putting Android on it again. You can also move your stuff your desktop and put it back again. About the Data.img, you don't really need to move it anywhere. When there is a new update to the build, i simply extract the contents of the new build to the Android folder on my SD card and over write. Simplest method I've seen yet.

That seems very odd. I've been using this build since February 24th and it has never locked up like that. But nonetheless you found a fix, good work.
No, not running any of those programs. I have extensively swapped data with this card numerous times.
I checked all setting in android prior to putting into puter. In therory, android should NOT write protect the disk, but something did. I have read this happening to others just in XDA forums alone.
Just got disk back to the "good" state using MiniTool Power Data Recovery... Let's take a peek as to see if it works correctly now.
Hmmmm... I think I should have used, repair damage partiton after recovery... still not working.
***scratches head***
I may need another cup of coffee for this.
How about a simple reformat?
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA Premium App
Nope. Tried that.
Windows formatter - no
SD formatter - no
Mini tool -nada
MyDefrag - not
Test disk - running now... pending
Try to reformat the SD from Windows Mobile?
Yup, first option....
Would go partially thru it, then stop. Worked fine yesterday. This starting to become un-nerving.
I will find a way. There is always a way. Unless something shorts/melts/breaks/ or fry's... there is always a way. Just a matter of correct knowedge and tool combination.

Alright good luck.
Trying HDD Regenerator v2011
Seems to be doing something, using limited Demo mode. At least it is identifying the bad sectors.
This one is gonna take awhile. If it works, or i find something that does, I will post. I've read other's have had this problem, and I can save the person buying/tossing out cards.... Then the work is worth it.
57min into it and only scanned 11mb????? This may be a month to scan 16g. If my math is correct. That's 1gig (1000mb) / 11per hour = 90.90hrs to complete 1g of scanning, multiplied by 15 (usable gigs) = 1363.6363hrs or 51.81 days? 51 days to complete scan?!?!?!?! Gonna look for another program. Wow.
Good thing I have a small 2g card. Unfortunately it won't hold 1/2 of my music. Argh, and I just put a 2 HD movies on there.
If you want to partition or format your SD you HAVE to be in Windows Mobile.
Also, if you are repartitioning your SD, I recommend you recreate your data.img or else it will have issues.
I tried to format in WM... Fail. All the files reappeared.
I did notice .android_secure file. That wasn't there before.
I have unmounted, seems like it is remounting itself. I even unmounted and yanked battery immediately. No success.
Yes, Android still boots.... Something in there is locking card. If card was bad, Android would obviously not be booting.
I cant add or remove data from that card. I have tried several programs.
**** Edit****
Please Do Not ask if switch on adapted is locked, I have two adapters, both UNLOCKED... For some reason, my "Spidey Senses" are telling me that I am about to be asked that question. Being asked this will only cause me to "sigh" loudly before i bang my head on desk. Which will still leave me with locked card and now a fresh migrane.
I'm tired of new question threads always asking about the same problem, so this is a list of most common problems in Android and how to solve them. I'll add more things as I read more and I also would appreciate your feedback, I'm using SD without MAGLDR and probably will keep on using Android this way so I'd also appreciate any feedback about how to solve problems regarding MAGLDR and NAND, though some of the solutions here might apply to them as well.
hopefully this will get stickied so new Android users will find it fast.
there's a small FAQ at the buttom, which will be improved and expanded in the future.
This thread is tagged with Android Troubleshooting

feel free to ask your questions here, I'll try to answer them, and will post only the answers that work here, so I would appreciate it if you say which solution worked for you. Do not post questions, however, that are already included here before you try these solutions.
Before you start, make sure you have the newest Radio, 2.15.50 because it supposedly handles power consumption better, so if you have power problems, try to flash it. look in windows 6.5 section for how to do this. the red number is mandatory, flashing a non .50 radio will not enable you to run android.
also, make sure you format your SD using the SD card formatter 2.0 or 3.0 http://www.sdcard.org/consumers/formatter_3/ choose full(overwrite) with size adjustment ON, or at least fully format it FAT32 using 32KB allocation unit size. Note that some cards don't work this way, but if you have Kingston, SanDisk, A-Data, Transcend or Team you should be fine. if it works with a card other than the ones mentioned please let me know.
My card fails to mount after I ..../ Card error, etc
it's mostly caused by files system errors, some are small so android will disregard them, and some are not, and thus is will ask you to remove the card. Most slow cards give this issue, if you want to know how fast your card is, benchmark it here: here a card with fast random read/write will probably not give these errors, or at least it will get them rarely (personal experience)
Solution #1
here's a fast solution: use any tool to check for file system errors, the native windows tool will do, there's also a similar option in minitool partition wizard and in plenty of other disk tools. in windows, all you have to do is right click the drive icon -> properties -> tools -> error checking and make it automatically repair the errors because it's more convenient.
Solution #2
if you still encounter the problem frequently, backup your data then format the card using the panasonic SD card formatter, or just google for SD formatter, you might stumble upon the official SD association which also offers a similar tool. in options set full(overwrite) with size adjustment ON. I recommend deleting all android cache files before you resore your files to the SD, even the image thumbnail folders.
Solution #3
if your device has these lags from time to time, don't start overwhelming it with extra commands, leave it to rest for a few seconds and then start again, I found this decreased the errors on my device.
Solution #4
try another SD card, preferably from another brand.
My device stuck on [fill in the blanks] after I started android for the first time
I'd recommend first rereading the whole developer's build page and see the FAQ on their page, check if you've missed something somewhere.
Solution #1
make sure you have at least 1.5 GB on the card after you've copied your android folder and make a fresh install again after you check your card for errors.
Solution #2
check if the build you want needs special partitioning, as far as I know, most builds run on unpartitioned SD, but make sure you read the build page thoroughly.
Solution #3
Wait for more time. Depending on the speed of your SD it may take longer to create the Data.img file or to convert needed system files, but normally shouldn't take more than 30 minutes. if it fails, reset and check the Android folder, if it has a data.img file but still smaller than 512/1024 MB (depending in the build) then you should probably wait for a longer period, or just try another build
Solution #4
some build require a config.txt file to be created before they can run, make sure you have the right confing.txt for the build and that you haven't misspelled a thing here or there. I once set the data.img size to 1MB accidentally and gladly I checked that before asking the developer ;p
I have a high battery drain on wakeup/standby
we'll start from easy solutions to more extreme ones.
Solution #1
lower the CPU speed using setCPU, this also sloves the heating up issue -> freezing. I've used my device with normal CPU speed without freezing, but wakup power consumption really decreased with lower CPU speed. however, setCPU caused my standby power consumption to increase four folds, so I removed it. Probably build-related.
Solution #2
make sure you let WinMo settle before running android, that means let sense load fully and wait for a minute or so. also Try to load android with flight mode on.
Solution #3
install a monitoring app so you could see which apps are consuming more power, some beta apps use your processor even in standby, mainly beta apps, uninstall those apps and it might solve your problem. I've found that in my case, setCPU caused a high standby consumption. Also perfect viewer1.4, Circle launcher, and some widgets also cause me high standby drainage. Killing Perfect Viewer solves it, but I had to uninstall the other apps.
Solution #4
Flash a new Radio/ a different Radio. I've used 2.10.50 without a problem on Super RAM Froyo, but 2.15.50 definitely improved things on sense builds. some users repost 2.12.50 to work fine as well. Try different radios and see what works best for you.
Solution #5
Try another build
Solution #6
Try a different SD card. Cards differ in their power needs, so search for one that consumes less power.
FAQ
Q- Which android build is the best/ I want an android build that has….etc.
A- Every and each android build is the best to someone. Developers spend long hours to make their builds better, faster and more stable, each with strengths and weaknesses. So to make it more simple, you have to look at each build page, see if it has what you need, then try it. If it doesn’t work, try another until you find something that suits your needs best. Here’s a page that lists all the builds for you:HTC HD2 Android Roms
each one is worth try, and believe me, asking which one is best will NOT save you time.
Q- which SD card class is better to install android?
A- All! the class means the device can write faster on the card, and probably read faster as well. But it all really depends on how fast can the device access info on the card, it's called Access time or something.. the lower the time the better, so two cards of different classes may have the same access time, so the only difference you'll notice is the speed of file transfer. look it up and you'll see what I mean
Q- My device lags after installaing apps
A- You probably have a senseHD build based on DesireHD. the original device has a similar lag so it's normal to have a lag on that build. Don't stress your device with clicks and just wait for 20 seconds after each app installation then tap open or done.
Q- I have a wakeup lag/lock screen of death
A- It's mostly SD dependent since users report not having a lag with higher classes, though I never had a lag with my SanDisk 2GB C2, and I have a small lag with my A-Data 8GB c4, so it's probably the card access time again. you can try setting the brightness to max, or never stress the device, if you do, it'll freeze and when the screen turns off, you'll never get it on again sometimes.
If you encounter a wakeup lag after a call, it's proximity sensor-related, there's a tool on this site to recalibrate the proximity sensor. I've never needed it though.
Q- Do I have to use task killers?
A- In Froyo, you don't. Froyo handles files differently, in a way that won't affect performance or battery consumption. if an app uses more power, then it's tha app's problem, uninstall it. If you kill it, Froyo will load it a few minutes later if it feels like being used frequently or so. but be my guest and try it for yourself.
I found some of the solutions here by myself, and read the others everywhere on the site. since it's hard for me to name all the people who found those solutions, I would like to thank them all, whoever they are. I could never have done this without the XDA community.
Hi,
I can see you have put in a lot of work into this.
The problem its that people tend not to search first. They just post the same questions(hence your post).
I hope it doesn't just sink down the postings.
Anyway,i've given you a little bump.
