hmmm, like a pig on my x1. glitchy and incredibly sluggish. did a soft reset and have been playing with it for about half an hour now to let it catch up with my album covers loading etc. havent yet managed to smooth scroll from one side of the album collection to the other, it just glitches out then 5 secs later it updates. Cant say this is an enjoyable experience
doesnt work for me, can start the programm one time after each softreset. otherwise it starts an closes immediatle after i select a track...

in that case you probably havent tweaked your x1
i can flick through my entire collection very quickly
I have the same experience as SamAsQ, and I HAVE tweaked my X1.
Also, the phone completely freezes if you touch the panel button when S2P is running. Taking out the battery is the only solution.
Actually, previous versions like 0.55 ran a lot better on my X1, as in fewer bugs. Album flow is smoother now though.
+1 for huge issues. even landscape seems to be broken, scroll is sloooow
v0.58s
Since this thread belongs to Xperia, I think it's more appropriate to post a new beta build here... it's trying to fix:
1. screen displacement when S2P is started in Landscape mode;
2. system hang when Panel button is pressed.
Please try & post your result.
P.S. the zip file contains the S2P.EXE only.

Just a quick try on my side:
Scrolling is alot better, with the previous version i had major vsync issues. Going into landscape to s2p simply switches it to portrait, and sliding out the keyboard breaks the graphics.
Hower 1 thing confuses me, when you take the edge of the album art and twist it, it WILL go to landscape mode, without glitches.
Anyway, i love the software already, and fixing landscape mode by slider/button activation would make this great software even more perfect.
(btw, performance is very good, but that figures since i only have 2 albums atm. (i have a 256mb sd-card at the moment )
Scroll list of folders isn't working, white on white on this version, so can't select which folder to open, however the list of songs is.
EDIT close s2p and restart it and folders list work fine.
Coverflo is working very quickly, took just over 2 seconds to load all the album artwork, thats 60 albums!
Reflection in default potrait screen isn't quite right but I can live with that (if I can get mymobiler working in wine again I'll do a screen grab).
S2P hangs temporarily when you press the optical joystick on coverflo screen, I think it's trying to change artists, just takes a while.
Just noticed coverflo works in portrait, wowsers that's fast! Still not certain how I got there but I like it!

I wish I could use this player. I looks great, but as I have more than 8Gb of music on my X1, it crashes. I hope this bug can be fixed soon.

It's the same for me. But I noticed that the cover scrolling in portrait was much smoother (until it crashed).
Keep up the good work and I hope you solve the +8GB crashing soon.
This is the best pocket player. I use it everyday at work, but when I'm in my car it's back to media panel because my x1 is in landscape mode in the carholder.

Have you tried changing any of the settings to see if they help?
I'm on 67 albums, 35 artists at the mo.
better, but still no ok. Sometimes the right portion in landscape mode doesn't work
anyway, performance are now awesome loaded 311 songs with at least 300x300 pixel albumart for each... No slow down
thanks for your efforts!
Coverflow sometimes hangs here. When it's running, it's running smooth and nice, but after a few covers the system hangs for a few seconds then everything is fine again. Even when I tip a cover to see the songlisting, it takes a few seconds to get the action done.
I don't have much music on my storage card, but could it be that it is too slow because it's just a 8GB Type 2?
hmmm, just tried the non-opengl version out of curiosity (am using the opengl one atm) and I can say that the OPENGL version is noticeably faster and smoother, particularly when flicking b/w albums. can't wait for u to release the next version! I'll be sure to donate some more after that
A_C posted a s2p.exe that replaces the original .exe in another threat. With this, the coverflow runs smooth without hangs.
The file is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3043275&postcount=8
But I still have the problem that when I change back from coverflow to music player, the wrong cd-cover is animated. For example, I hear "As I lay dying" but when I flip the cover (to see the song listing) the cover of "Heaven shall burn" is flipping. Maybe that's an issue because I only have embedded covers but it's strange and not good when I show someone the "cool music player"

2 it doesnt support the hd's back button

much much faster compared to previous version, imo, atleast on my diamond
Thanks. How do I keep this thing from starting up on boot? Its really annoying and I don't see it in the Windows startup folder.
using it now and there is a number of announces going on. I don't know it's the skin but:
1) if the page (in full screen) is loading and I scroll/pan it will jump out of full screen mode. however, if the page finished loading and I scroll/pan it stays in full screen mode.
2)screen/skin response is a bit laggy at times. I really feels it is skin related because if I click a link in my RSS reader to open in opera it would show that the page is loading but doesn't show that a new tab is open until after (roughly) 10 seconds (where as in earlier builds it is shown immediately). I think this is somehow related to the jumping out of full screen problem.
EDIT
3) when double tap to zoom in, the wait it to focus is a bit longer than usual. restarted and this problem went away.
4) I really prefer the zoom slider at the bottom of the page a) because it's much smoother and responsive, b) because I'm left handed so it's better access.
good things:
1) I like that as you type the text area follows along, even though I have a good size screen I know smaller screen users would appreciate this.
2)it seems faster but some of the discrepancies I mentioned above sort of made this improvement moot.
3) it uses sip that is set at default (tested with TouchPal)
4) got a 59/100 in acid3 test (I think the test is somewhat flawed because it seems network dependent, I ran the test 3 times, I got 59, 57, 60. so I took the middle value of the 3. if I should use the average of these 3 it would be 58.6666∞, technically 59)
5) scroll velocity is back. but it doesn't "refresh" the page as you scroll/pan, so you'll be seeing a lot of gray area even if your height and width buffers are set up to 1028 (although this size helps a lot while reducing velocity to 150).
all in all, I will be using it.
** for those who can't enter text/comment on xda after hitting the "post reply" button while using opera, all you have to do is set user agent spoof to 3 in the config. for the last 5 builds I had to do this to be able to post comments here. not everyone has this problem.
** can anyone post the "image.css" file that should be found in the folder "opera9\styles\"
Guys, if anyone of you used Opera 2520, how does this compare to it? Just wanted some insights that's all!
All the best!
What does "Full Flash support" mean? Youtube (and some other sites) only like in previous versions, or is it really FULL flash support now?
I really doubt it's full flash. It won't do CNN, Yahoo, ESPN, etc. videos. It does some of them at least on my 2520 version.
Yeah the flash addon just makes it really slow. Gonna disable it.
I cannot tell if it's flash that's making it slow, i know those darn stupid scripts make it slow! disabling it is real fast but only do it to websites that don't use those stupid scripts!

Very, very, very fast server side processing browser... not as rich of an experience as the stock or dolphin, but much faster and does a pretty darn good job. Lots of extra stuff, like good bookmarks and cached browsing.
Great option.
FAST browsing. Great homepage/bookmarks , great tabs.
I always like having a secondary browser. Opera IMO is the best secondary browser and if you can deal with jpg compression and alot of "mobile" looking pages its a fanstastic primary browser.
I just wouldnt use it to show off the beauty of the phone.
Its about the same as the windows version and yes Hella fast... and has the option to upload pics or files unlike the stock or dolphin, and download files that are not supported on the device....
Is there a way to zoom in/out in sites? (maybe it's just too late and I can't figure it out).
Anyway, the hebrew is all messed up unlike the stock / Dolphin / HTC Desire browsers - so I'll have to skip that one.
It is a very nice browser i must admit. For the next few days I will be using it to replace Dolphin. Just as a test drive.
I don't like it.
Reasons:
A) When you scroll down a page (that's already "fully" loaded), the pictures show really nasty puke-colored placeholder boxes.
B) The full-screen mode still shows the notification bar. It's not really "full screen" then is it?... (That is by far my favorite feature about the Desire Rom.)
C) There's no way to fine-grained zoom in to how you want. Double tap is either zoomed FAR out, or zoomed to 1 specific point. Why can't I choose my own zoom level?
Very fast browser & lite on memory. Will be playing more with it next few days...
Not bad for a first release.. I'm impressed.
Looking forward to future updates.. multi touch etc.
Pretty good, especially when you are getting weak signal.
having to flick between 4 different browsers on my phone as not one of thems really any good....
opera 10: looks nice and sharp, quick but is well and truely let down with the default screen image size and zoom options, no pinch to zoom and vids wont play.....useless
opera 9.7: looks good with nice default screen size. has pinch to zoom but is pretty dreadfull to use, you do the finger motion and you end up nowhere near where you need to be. again, vids wont play.....useless
skyfire: looks ok but its pretty jittery and nowhere near as fast as opera. no pinch to zoom and the zooming options are nothing to write about but at least it plays vids.
ie: hardly ever use this one as its so slow.
appart from browsing i think the phone is pretty sweet, its just a real shame using the internet is (for me) becoming a pain. whats your thoughts guys....?
I think Opera Mobile is amazing. I couldn't fault it in any way. Why does everyone complain about no pinch to zoom when a swift double tap works better.
with Opera 10 you only have to tap once to zoom in!
its so smooth, the scrolling is as smooth as butter and its so fast.
sure not playing flash is a pain, but its not essential, especially if youre complaning that you cant watch youtube on your browser when youve got an app for just that
Opera is gorgeous, fast, so fast... and completely flawless.
I'm using the 9.7 build that comes standard on the T-Mobile USA model. I also tweaked tons of the Opera cache settings, page loading, thumbnail, and zooming functions as well.
I think your alone on this one bud.
opera is badass by its self. opera 10 is freakin sweet.
btw ... why so many complaints about a sweet ass phone?
each to their own bud. its just a useful feature. on opera 10, when i tap to zoom its still sometimes hard to hit links or page numbers as it still too small. altering the zoom is hit an miss as if you make the zoom bigger it ends up too large for the screen. if i had pinch to zoom could make links and what not just a bit bigger.
i dont like the fact i cant play youtube vids on opera either, my phone from 3 years ago could do it........
opera 10 runs very slick but has major flaws, just my opinion.

can you say what you have done tweak wise? i never seem to get a browsing experience to match my mates iphone...which im sure you can understand is annoying
IE seems pretty damn fast to me. I accidentally made it default and was shocked at how usable it was.
Opera 9.7 - not jittery, but i never use the pinch to zoom...ever. but I do use it because it launches and runs more snappily for a quick browse. it's lighter in resources.
Mobile 10 - my default. it takes longer to load than 9.7 and no pinch, but flash plugin works, double tap to zoom with reflow usually works. rendering good. fast, speedy. and page rendering without checkered boxes as in 9.7 or IE. Fab. Not perfect, but pretty damn good.
Never even needed to install skyfire after mobile10.
Why not try iphone instead? Or Android? I hear their browsers are even better
Just remember, technology is always work in progress. No browser, even on the desktop, is perfect. And I'm surprised they ALL work as well as they do on winmo - browsing is better on winmo than iphone and android. That was one reason that swayed me to winmo.
What do you suppose the better alternative is?
The iPhone browser?
I have an iPhone and its browser has nothing on Opera 10...even with pinch to zoom.
At least you have options. Flash isn't even an option on the iPhone!
I guess that I'm in the minority but I like IE best. The zoom on the Opera just isn't as easy to use as IE's slider control but maybe I just havn't used Opera enough. I also have an iPhone 3GS and while I like the browser and touchscreen response better, in every other category the HD2 wins hands down.

Opera Browsing here is second to none!
Maybe Opera Mini 5 is a good choice for you. Blazing fast, though no flash.
BTW: Opera Mobile 10 does support flash: settings - enable plugins - ready and IE also, to a certain extent, supports flash.

yeah im using the latest rom bud. dont get me wrong, opera 10 is very fast and slick but just seems set up wrong for the screen size.if there was a zoom slider like in ie that would be sound enough. as it is, opera10 seems unfinished. also, not been able to view embedded videos on most sites is just complete madness. I know some people are saying "well hd2 already has a decent youtube app, use that", but what goods that when the video I might wanna watch is embedded in a page that wont allow me to view it....?. it all just seems like such a wasted opportunity on such a quality device. its the phones biggest downfall which is mad given this screen was made for viewing the internet on.......
IE is the only one (other than skyfire but that looks rubbish) that plays flash videos on site like bbc news, so I'm always switching between using Opera 10 for speed and IE for video.
Count yourself lucky that you can install whatever browser you want on WM, Apple still hasnt approved Opera mini on the ****phone

As my concern is that certain countries has multi-touch disabled.

Can't confirm, but I find it highly unlikely HTC would disable multi-touch based on region.
Besides, check out HTC's South East Asia site. The Legend specs page lists pinch-to-zoom as a capability.
hi David, I'm from Malaysia and my unit have multitouch for both browser and picture viewer so I don't think that will differ alot from the Singapore unit.

hi david
first of all, here's what i've been using: the ipod touch 2g (532mhz) for almost a year now; and the Legend (600mhz) for a little under a month.
differences I've noticed so far:
mobile safari:
+UI feels sublime
+handles portrait<->landscape modes better
+more intuitive
-page reflow takes time
-strange crashes e.g. even on a regular google search page
-NO FLASH
Android browser:
+hasnt yet crashed once
+page seemingly never reflows
+text reflow is pretty amazing
+Flash (lite??)
+faster browsing
-limited to only only 3 windows (hard coded or dependent on RAM?)
-UI not quite as smooth
seems to me its a form vs function kinda thing here..

Just to add to yellowchilli's comments...
I think the Android browser is clearly superior to Mobile Safari. Here's why:
1. Full screen browsing. Safari always displays the top and bottom bars which wastes a bunch of space, especially in landscape.
2. Text-reflow is an essential feature, not just a gimmick. You know longer have to scroll horizontally as well as vertically to read zoomed-in text. Once you've experienced this, you will never go back to Mobile Safari.
3. You never (ever!) see the checkerboard pattern on the Legend (or Desire) if you flick scroll really fast on a site. Even on the iPhone3GS, you will see the checkerboard pattern as the screen tries to refresh the content.
4. Tabs start loading in the background as soon as you instruct it to. This saves a lot of time. In Mobile Safari, only the currently active tab gets loaded. The other tabs starts loading after you switch to them. Btw, the maximum number of tabs in Android is actually 4.
5. Since Android has a file system, you can download files from the browser. Other than photos, this is impossible on Mobile Safari.
