hello everyone!
i am going to buy a gps mouse today, the hollux 236, and now i am wondering, what you think are the best apps to use with a gps mouse!?
most of all i am interessted in navigation software, like TomTom for example. but what are the alternatives to TomTom? what's your recommended nav software?
i would also like to know, what other usefull apps there are to use with a gps mouse...?
any info is appreciated!
thx in advance,
krz
I would definetly go for tomtom navigator 6, its the best ive ever used simple yet effective
IGO - the best for driving navigation
Wich country
You will not always have the choice because not always navigation software have the maps for the countries you want.
for exemple, Tom Tom is a lot for Europe and USA and Mapking for Asia
I am using three on my Artemis:
iGO 2006 Plus with the lastest Portuguese/Spanish maps (2007.07);
TOMTOM 6.032 (8351)with the latest Iberia maps (675.1409);
ROUTE66 Navigate7 with the latest Iberia maps (Q4, 2006 i think);
Both TOMTOM and iGO work better than Route66 because R66's maps are very old and i can't find anything more recent. My favourite is TOMTOM because of its ease of use and overall speed starting up/navigating. iGO has got the looks and the maps are as good (or seem to be) as TOMTOM's.
I also have a TOMTOM GO V3 standalone navigator with version 7 of both the software and maps (Iberia Version 710) and those are way more updated than version 675.1409. Also it has much more detail on the maps.
All this text to say that if TOMTOM7 comes out for the PDAs it's gonna be a winner for me.
i would say garmin...now there is the new mobile xt prog for free for ppc...correct maps for europe...including deep city view
thx for the answers!
i think, i will give iGo Plus a shot....
what other cool tools should i get for working with the gps...?
i once heard of tools to programm or configure the gps mouse...?
interessted in more tips and tricks,
krz

I use Igo and I like it more than Tomtom.
the next version (Igo 8) is coming soon and I was very impressed with the demo I've seen.
But is there any good GPS software with Middle East maps. I love navigation but dont have any GPS Software.
If anyone of you have a GPS software with Middle East Maps, so please can you give me.
Thanks

Where do you get this sw free?
http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/site/us
you can visit that site for further information, i guess garmin works the same way tomtom does, so you can get the software for free and maybe a test map and the only thing you need to buy are the maps. i didn't look up the price for a us / north america map now, because i am at work and the garmin site is really slow.
Hey there, Which GPS application do you guys use?
I'm using Garmin Mobile XT at the moment
SatNav...
I'm using CoPilot 7 Diamond Edition, which came with my device... superb
I am using IGO8, working great with my Diamond.
Currently using iGo8, had TomTom 7 on before.
I use IGuidance 2009.
I use Mobile Navigator 7.
tomtom 7 as main gps app and igo8 & destinator as backup...
Garmin Mobile XT

I use tomtom
Ndrive (the best for Portugal)
And TomTom (perhaps, the overall best!!!)
1. iGO Amigo;
2. Sygic McGuider;
3. Garmin Mobile XT.
1. IGO 8 (with updated maps)
2. Destinator 7 (waiting for destinator 9)
Will have to look into TomTom... everyone seems to rave about it...
which is best ????
TomTom 7 and now more towards Igo8 and also for ease of use and quickness Igo Amigo is pretty usefull, all work great on Touch HD
-TOMTOM works great When Igo8 bug (problem : out of memory perpetually But igo is much better than tomtom when it 's run perfectly )
of course iGO8.
I cant understand why Tomtom should be better :x
iGO has very nice themes with lots of functions including having plugins for it.
And you dont run out of memory as long as you have a lite rom like gen.y with lots of free ram. Works perfectly here. Have it also running on my navigationsystem in the car.
Will have to stick to Garmin.... None of the other GPS applications have maps for S.A. :-(
Was really interested in iGO 8, but no maps...
are these sat navs free to download and if so where would i get one at i need ione for my holidays coming up in lanzarote
1. iGO8
2. TomTom7
3. Sygic McGuider
4. Navigon MobileNavigator 7
5. Garmin Mobile XT.
6. Destinator 7
All running australian maps.
Sometimes changing of programs is like a change is scenery. Just like something different sometimes.
I use iGO8 most of the time, the TTS on it is awesome, have Tomtom as backup as well as Voda Satnav, which actually isn't too bad either.
Garmin Mobile XT for Windows Mobile, Ver. 5.00.20w With North America Maps.
Works Great
Here are your Garmin Screenshots: SEE BELOW
Is there a North American Version?
no way I'm going to spend $99.99 on a navigation solution that requires me to switch out my SD card every time I want to navigate.
Best GPS

I use Tomtom and i dare say it is tons better than anything else i have tried, i have evem carried out the geo-photo hack and can now geo-tag photos and navigate to them
version in use is 7.9196 with version 8 maps
TomTom Nav 7 hands down, the best IMO. Their support kinda sucks but if you really want to get it working on your TP2, you can do it, even with TT6 maps. I love it, I dread the day when I have to get a new device and I can't use TomTom with it. I will be updating my maps soon because it's just worth it.
I've had Garmin XT installed for only about a week. It does what it should. I wish it had TTS though. Telenav had TTS but I didn't like the fees since I got Garmin for free.
OK You wanna go to war, I take you to war
I will begin this week testing the major Windows Mobile GPS Applications.
I will start first by testing: Garmin Mobile XT for Windows Mobile, Ver. 5.00.20w
and the latest TomTom for Windows Mobile
I will begin posting the results of Garmin tomorrow

What I want to know is can Garmin XT really be copied to another card. I've heard in the past that it can but it's supposed to be locked to the card. Can someone verify?
At Midnight EST
Everyone will find out.

It is possible to install garmin xt to your own sd card. I've been using it for about 3 weeks now since I don't want to pay telenav $9.99 a month. But I miss hearing the street names.

How about Telus Navigator, Google Maps, amAze GPS, and navit.
I doubt they will stack up to Garmin or TT7 but they cost less (minus Telus Nav) and may as well be tested. We could be surprised

Try iGO8 - it works great on our TP2
Garmin XT has so many bugs I don't use it anymore, so everyone has his own favourite.
btw: Used Garmin for cycling...
Garmin can definitely be copied onto another SD card. I've been using it on my 8gb for a while now and I love it. I really do miss TTS though.

How about a digital camera shot of the phone? Or would that not work well enough?
Give me some time
Give me some time, I will get some softwre that will work and take screenshots for TP2,
I will test everything listed
Need more time, Not going to put a date on this, however, I will keep up with the thread.

Ok, sounds great. I look forward to reading your reviews. If I find other solutions, shall I list them?
I'm a Garmin XT user...
And I like Garmin XT for its simplicity - I don't need a bunch of 3D buildings and wasteful processor cycles for very needless eye candy.
With that said, I have not used iGo8 or TomTom - I'm a simple Garmin Mobile XT user. I can use Garmin XT while listening to music in my car without a skip... that is what's important to me.
Screenshots as requested...
I run Garmin XT on my phone, on my own 16GB card, as I have for years. Something to note - you can update the maps from other Garmin products as well.
Some of the issues I have with the OTHER GPS programs is the tendency to be very Europe-centric. TomTom 7 does not appear to offer North America maps, though I believe people are using TomTom 6 maps. Nav N Go iGO8 looks interesting, but having a map of Paris does me no good in Toronto, Canada.
Come to think of it .... ARE there any (non Networks in Motion TELUS Navigator type $10/month) Text to Speech options for Canada?
Hi,
I have just ordered my new HTC migic, but not sure if I can run TOMTOM GPS on it, any idea of suggestion?
Thank you in advance.
no u can't. yet.
NDrive
Destinator
Sygic Mobile Maps
Co-Pilot
IGO Amigo
IGO MyWay
MotoNav
Navigon
Papago
these are all GPS navigation applications with offline maps..you can find them everywhere. personally, NDrive is the best one. theyre coming out with version 10 which has lane-assist, signposts, TTS, and a few other useful features.
i think sygic is the closest to TomTom's interface. but when i used it the lane assist didnt work, poi's are terrible, routing isnt the best, and it shows N/A for some streets instead of the name. sometimes it would tell me to go onto roads that dont exist or make me take so many u-turns...lol
WE NEED GARMIN FOR ANDROID
hey everone i wanted to put a good gps software on my hd2 so i wanted to know is there any good gps which doesnt requires internet connection on the phone to work...cuz i go to places where the etwork is not present...so i wanted some thing that'll work like my gps device...

There are maps for nearly the hole world.
I was woundering if I was using an internet does GPS cost extra onto my contract?
iGO8 is best GPS software for me. I tried all software for GPS and after all I've come to the conclusion that the best IGO8 in combination with Gurjon or DiMka skin and my color scheme.
Pretty tweaked and flexible software. iGO use internal maps and don`t use any internet or similar connection.

I have seen many videos of iGO Navigation on youtube and must say that application is nowehere near GARMIN XT app... Garmin simply turns your phone into GARMIN NAVIGATION itself. Very responsive, obtains satelite signals quickly, maps for the whole world, etc - you name it...
Note: Garmin XT is no longer on sale by it's manufacturer but some retailers still have some left. If you google it you will be able to find it.
I will try to do Garmin XT demo on my HD2 and post it for others to see how better it really is

Most of navigation software is offline - without internet connection.
TomTom, igo8, garmin, navigon, ndrive, ... all offline navigation
The US version of IGO is OnCourse Navigator. The only problem I had with Oncourse is that it required you to use their SD card which last time I checked was only 8gb. Garmin and Tom Tom were only 2 gb cards. I use CoPilot as it allows you to use your own SD card. The only thing you need to make sure of is that you deActivate every time you flash your phone. I've used all the programs listed and find them all to be very nice. Also CoPilot is also the cheapest at about $30.

Forgot to mention that BUT did state that you completely get NAVI UNIT out of that APP...
To answer your question - no, it does not use the internet at all. You can use it for better signal acquiring and for Garmin / Google Searching options - but that's up to you whether you want it or not...
I'm using Gamin Mobile XT and loving it. It's the same as my real Gamin that I decided too sell my Gamin 350. No text to speech like my 350, but who cares.
