I recently flashed from the T-Mobile UK ROM to 1.48.405.2 and everything is working just like before, except my vigin e-mail. I have windows live installed, and hotmail is working just like it did before, Opera is working too. But when I Send/Receive my Virgin e-mail all I get is 'Cannot connect with current selection settings' and the option to change them or dismiss.
I had this issue on and off yesterday and the day before, think it is something to do with Virgin, their pop servers go down on a regular basis. Mine is back to normal now.
I'm sure the problem is not with virgin because when i'm connected to a wifi network it retrieves the e-mails fine. I just can't understand why all the other internet functions, including hotmail are working fine and virgin isn't working.

Just thought I'd ask if anyone has any suggestions on this problem.
I just came here today from PocketPCPassion's forum, read some of the WM2003 posts, and decided to give it a shot. I first installed the xda developers ROM 1.2, then installed the WM2003 update (the .zip from the FTP server posted here as an IP address, login xda/xda).
(This is a T-Mobile device BTW).
I created a GPRS connection using internet2.voicestream.com as usual, and it connects just fine. However, attempts to browse with PIE result in "The page you are looking for cannot be found" errors. I've even tried browsing by IP address in case of DNS problems, no difference.
However, I set up a POP account in Inbox, and I can send/receive e-mail just fine, so I'm stumped.
Any ideas? I also tried VPN (internet3.voicestream.com), but it won't connect at all. I'm not sure if I need to request provisioning for VPN from T-Mobile.
As it turns out, this may be a local issue. I popped my SIM into a t68i and dialed-up via bluetooth from a WinCE device, and had the same problem there. Mail works, Web doesn't. Guess I'll call T-Mobile and see what's up. We had some severe storms here in Memphis Tuesday which have left lingering problems, this is probably related to that.
WOW just woke to the same problem, but hey you know me!
Try changing your AP from internet2.voicestream.com to wap.voicesteam.com that goo me back online.
If also iff the above doesn't work you might try running welcome.exe from the windows roor folder.
Good Luck!
Thanks Qman, that works for me too! I guess there's something wrong with internet2? Anyone else have this problem?
I didn't think T-Mobile allowed anything but WAP over the wap AP. Now that they've gone unlimited data though, maybe they don't care anymore...
internet3
Interesting...Here in the SF Bay area, i could connect to internet3 all day yesterday, but couldn't get mail or ie. It was as if t-mo usa's connection between their GPRS and the internet was down for a while...
..but t-mo usa use cinguliar's network here, so that could also have been an issue.
Maybe it was a temporary national t-mo problem.

Hi everyone!
I'm the proud owner of a HTC Kaiser for about 2 weeks know which works just fine, at least if there wouldn't be this extremely annoying eMail problem :-(
I configured my eMail account and when I'm downloading my eMails with WLAN everything works fine, which proves that username/password/... must be correct.
Today I was "on the road" and tried to fetch my mails via grps/hsdpa/whatever was available and it just won't work. I suddently get a "Synchronisierungsfehler" (I'm running a german ROM, in english it should be something like "synchronisation error") and a bubble tells me to check my proxy etc settings, but it seems that the phone doesn't even try to connect :-(
I deleted and recreated my eMail account a couple of times, trying all the different network connections but it just won't work.
If I run IE, it automatically connects over 3G and I'm able to browse the web. While connected and surfing through the www I'm still unable to download my mails with the same error message, although I'm definitely connected to the internet. As soons as I disconnet 3G and enable WLAN, I'm able to send and receive eMails (while surfing still works of course).
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Slowly but surely I'm going insane ;-)
Thanks,
Simpson
What's your mobile carrier? Maybe the provider is blocking the necessary port(s) which are used by POP3/SMTP/IMAP.
So in first instance you could try a different APN if there is one...
Thanks for the reply!
I'm on 3 (Austria) and the strange thing to me is that it aborts so quickly. When downloading my Mails via WLAN it says Connection, Logging in, ... but over GPRS, which should take longer i guess, within the very first second (REALLY withing the very first second), there is "Connection", "Synchronisationerror", so I'm wondering if the connection could be dropped that fast by my provider or if the phone isn't even trying :-(
Thanks again,
Simpson
I guess it could be the port thing I mentioned above.
When you're connected via wifi (i.e. at home) there is usually no specific port blocked. So you're able to receive emails without any issues. If you're connected via GPRS/EDGE/3G/... the provider is able to block an incoming traffic on specific ports. The whole procedure works like that (simplyfied): your mobile establishes a connection via GPRS (which seems to work since you can browse the internet via GPRS). Afterwards it tries to connect on port 110 (which is for POP3) to your inbox. I think there's the point where your provider comes into play. If this port is blocked there's no way for your mobile to reach the mail account.
edit:
Do you have the option to try fetching your mails with a different SIM card from a different provider? If so you should try that.
And yes... the connection can be dropped that fast.

I called 3 yesterday and they swore that the ports are NOT blocked. It must be possible to fetch mails from any provider.
Another funny thing is that if I configure my email account and try to automatically fetch the settings, the Kaiser connects via the same modem as if I would start IE and is able to fetch the settings!!! After finishing the configuration and trying to send/receive my mails, I get the same message again: Synchronisationsfehler bzw Überprüfen Sie Ihre DFÜ und Proxy Einstellungen.
Thanks to this great forum I unlocked my Kaiser with this cute All-in-one solution unlocker (donation will follow ;-) and tomorrow I'll try it with a different SIM card
Thanks again!

Well... if 3 doesn't block any ports... this whole thing doesn't get much easier
I suggest to take a look at your email provider settings (pop3 server, smtp server, login credentials). Maybe you have to use different settings when connecting via GPRS/3G.
I had a similar issue a couple of days ago with a Kaiser ( ), T-Mobile and T-Online. To keep things short... the login credentials have to be different when fetching mails via GPRS from T-Online.
So you should take a look at these settings. Especially at the server settings, since your device gives a connection error.
Well, I started messing aroung with this stuff on thusday. Today is sunday and.... It finally works!!!!!
Do you know what I did?
Well, after 4 days of fooling around I thought maybe I should try to reboot my Kaiser (Ein Reboot tut immer gut!) and after rebooting, without changing any account settings: Start -> Messaging -> Send/Receive -> AUTOMATICALLY dialing Planet3Modem -> You've got 2 new messages!
I'm so happy that it finally works, I don't even care why I didn't try a reboot earlier ;-)
Yippeee!!!!!! ))))
Thanks again for the help!

I'd never guessed that it would be that simple
Anyways... herzlichen Glückwunsch
I have a TyTN (originally ATT 8525 flashed to vanilla WM6.0) that I gave my wife a while ago. She had the T-Zones 5.99 internet up and running just fine a few months back, but wasn't really using it so we dropped the plan. We still used WiFi a bit, so I disabled the T-Mo connection. Now, I'm using the phone for myself and want to get T-Zones back, so I used Lurch's connection installer. When I try to use an Internet app (like PIE), I see that it's connecting, then it thinks for a while, and pulls up a HTTP ERROR: $CODE$. At first, it didn't have the proxy set up (I forgot that Lurch didn't do that, I guess), but even after fixing it and soft resetting, I get the same problem. Is there maybe something wrong with the proxy or some such?
try this cab..

Actually, I tried that just before you posted, and it *did* fix my PIE issues. Unfortunately, I don't think Gmail IMAP is working, but I don't have my phone handy to double-check. I believe only traffic to/from port 80 (and maybe 8080?) is allowed, so secure IMAP probably won't ever work, right? It doesn't bug me too much -- since it's Gmail, I can always just use the browser (now that I have EDGE, that is).
i had gmail pop setup and working a couple months back.. now i cannot get it to work either
The connection should be set to work under Tmo Data and work to internet under proxy - and to work as prefersed connection under the e-mail account.
if you go to google and your account settings there is a tutorial under imap settings that will have you reconfigure your email settings on your phone manually. it fixed mine immediately.
Having the HD2 for over a week now and I've pretty much everything working. Except for one thing, I can't get mail to work via Vodafone. When I use my wireless network or the T-Mobile sim of my employer mail-synchronisation is working fine. When I switch back to Vodafone I get 'synchronisation error', Internet is working fine however. Anyone familiar with the problem? I contacted Vodafone, but no response there yet.
In the default settings delivered by Vodafone, as well as the settings given on the website proxy is on. this isn't correct. for mailing and internet NO proxy should be turned on.
This is bizzare, i'm on TMobile and email worked fine then suddenly stopped working. Exactly the same thing happend with the proxy being on!

Best thing to do is a Hard reset.
weird, it just randomly started working again...no clue what was up with it...it wasnt working for like 6 hrs.
Next time be sure to check if a G or 3G icon appears next to the reception. If not this is usually a carrier problem.
Vodafone here recently had some problems, basics worked (sms and calls) but no mms or internet. This had to do with a failure in some switch (and MMS also requires sending data)
