Hey guys,
I'm having problems connecting to windows mobile device centre.
I get a noise when i plug it in and in device manager a PocketPC USB Sync appears under the heading "mobile devices" but no "Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter" under network adapters.
i have unchecked the enable faster data transfer box on the phone. but still nothing works.
any ideas greatly appreciated.

I have had no success syncing my Dopod D810 with my Vista Home Premium computer. I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling WMDC, changing the USB-PC connection option, USB points of connection ~ all to no avail. Although my Dopod is recognised as a HTC USB Sync in device manager, WMDC will not show it connected (though the 'more connections' option reveals device connected)and i cannot see it in explorer etc.
One thing I have noticed is that on the Dopod an advice page occasionly (generally after installing WMDC and reconnecting) appears from ActiveSync saying that i need to install activesync on the computer to sync this device. Then occasionly ActiveSync remains active after i have disconnected the device.
Could someone please assist me with this problem
I had a similiar problem, not sure if this will help but I had to manually disable ActiveSync and make sure it was disabled when I plugged in my phone.
If it's detecting as HTC USB Sync in device manager, I think it might be connecting in the wrong mode. You sure you have the "allow advanced connections" box ticked in the usb / pc section in settings?
RaindancerAU, thx for the reply,
Tried the 'Enable advanced network functionality' check box, but no better, no connected icon on Dopod, and no recognition of connection from computer. Uncheck box, and HTC USB sync starts, but WMDC not connected. Dopod also shows error that 'to connect you must install Activesync 4.1 or higher on the desktop computer.
As an aside, I have been able to sync this Dopod perfectly with a Windows XP machine elsewhere in the house.
Frustrates the h*ll out of me!
Did this tip helps

Hi!
I have a problem connecting a WM6 Hermes to a Laptop running Vista without the Mobile Device center installed. When I plug the PDA in over USB the sync icon shows up on the PDA and the WLAN gets disabled. Is there a way to keep the WLAN from being disabled?
Thanks!
on your PC:
ActiveSync -> File -> Connection Settings -> allow wireless connections...
But... it's Vista with the Mobile Device Center
That does work on XP. I Have to deal with the mobile device center on Vista, though.

i am not able to use my phone for internet sharing via USB but can use it via BT PAN. if gives a error "cannot connect for unknown reason"
i have disabled the activesync.
also whenever i connect my PDA to system it takes it on LAN of 10Mbps so i disabled the advanced connectivity. after this is asks for the windows CE drives but is not able to find it on net also after searching.

i also want to know that can i increase the speed of the connection B/w pda and PC from 10Mbps to 100 Mbps as this is very slow for transferring large data.

Check usb cable connection solution!!!!!!
I have been having this same problem for weeks. When I first startted using the Internet Sharing App on my kaiser, it worked great. But one day it just stopped. The status just always saud "Check Usb Cable Connection" even though it synced up fine with active sync. Well after weeks of lookinf for a solution, I found it!!!!!!
I am running windows XP pro SP2 and WM 6.1 HTC official. After you have active sync turned off and you connect the cable, make sure you are using USB and Media Net and hit connect and it still keeps saying "Check USB....".
With it still plugged in, on your PC RIGHT CLICK on my computer >> properties >> Hardware Tab >> Device Manager. Expand Network Adapters. You should see Windows Mobile-based Device with a red X on it. Double click it. The device usage box at the bottom was set to "Do not use this device (disable)". Change it to "Use this device (enable) and click ok.
And your status on your phone should change from "Check usb cable connection" to "Connected" and ALL SYSTEMS ARE GO!!!
I did not disable this option I do not know how it got disabled since this is on my pc at work, but it work as it did before.
When I had Windows XP and ActiveSync my phone could connect to the internet when it was connected to my pc with USB.
Now I have Vista and my phone can not connect to the internet.
The ActiveSync had an option, "This PC is connected to the internet" I can not find that in Vista's Mobile Center.
Do you have any solution???
Windows Mobile Device Centre aka Windows Vista's Active Sync
a little search arnd the forum could have saved you some time. anyways here's what you do.
Since you are using Vista, you cant use or install Active Sync in Windows Vista. They replaced Active Sync with Windows Mobile Device Centre [WMDC].
When you connect your device to your computer, WMDC should be able to recognize it. Then go to Mobile Device Settings and choose Connection Settings.
In the Connection Settings, the third option is This Computer is connected to:
choose Automatic
Your PDA/Device should now be able to browse the internet or Logon to Live Messenger etc.
If this doesnt solve your problem, please i recommend you to search the forum with the terms being Windows Mobile Device Centre

Click to collapse
have your shared your internet connection, through the properties of your LAN connection.
once you do that, you may have to reinstall WMDC once again for it to pickup the internet share option.

I updated the software from microsoft and now is working, thx.
I've searched for related topics, but none are quite on point.
The following works for XP, but not for Vista, and I cannot figure out why.
(Note: I have the unlimited data plan, please use with caution if
you do not have the plan).
I am using AT&T as my carrier.
Using CeRegEditor, I performed the following on my Motorola Q 9h global device running WM 6.1, USB connector is connected from phone to PC:
1) changed HKLM\Comm\InternetSharing\Settings = "ForceCellConnection"
to "" and rebooted
2) In HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4...}\Connections,
changed ATT ICS and MEdia Net "ReadOnly" value from 1 to 0
On the phone itself, I then selected Start->Settings->Internet Sharing:
PC Connection = USB
Network Connection = MEdia Net
After issuing "Connect" on the phone, I have internet access when the phone
is connected via USB cable to the Windows XP PC, but not when connected via USB cable to the Vista PC.
====
I have tried Bluetooth instead of USB when connecting to Vista, to no avail.
I have tried to obtain a new IP address for the USB connection, to no avail.
I disabled Norton firewall, to no avail.
I disabled the wireless card I installed last year when my internet
connection was DSL with a wireless access point, to no avail.
The phone connects ("syncs") fine with both PCs. On XP, the application is called 'Microsoft ActiveSync', and on Vista, 'Windows Mobile Device Center'.
I appreciate any advice you have.
It should work. I am using Vista SP1 and a WM 6.1 cooked HP 614c. Even managed to use the data connection in a virtual machine running on the same system. As soon as you hit ´Connect´ the sync session gets disconnection (status in Device Center is disconnected). Then Vista should detect a new connection called Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device. When running it for the first time, a driver will be installed. After that it detects a new network which you can setup using the Network Center. Did this happen in your case?
Hey duckyman, thanks for responding. I do see the 'Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device' on the Network and Sharing center, but the connection is listed as 'local'.
I did notice that once you hit 'connect' on the phone that the WM Device Center application on the PC lists the connection as no longer connected.
This is normal behavior, however, as the same thing happens on Win Xp with the corresponding 'Active Sync' application, and the XP connection works for me.
I think the problem is with Vista. I will try one more time with Bluetooth instead, I noticed that under 'Bluetooth Settinngs' on the phone that though I had enable bluetooth, I did not check the box "Allow other Bluetooth devices to see this phone".

It works perfect on Vista and win 7
