Would it be any easier using a moment dump to help compile some sprint specific stuff since the moment runs a vanilla android to get things ready for a 2.0 upgrade?
Are you referring to a 2.0 upgrade of Moment or Hero?
Both phones are running 1.5 so I am not sure what we would be able to get from the Moment.

As kcarpenter said, we aren't trying to take a 1.5 rom and make it 2.x. We have a GSM 2.x rom that we're trying to make work on a CDMA phone with a kernel that doesn't exist for us.
sorry, I meant for specific apk for sprint since htc hacked up stuff to get cdma to work and so on, but nevermind
Good thought, never hold back on ideas. The more ideas and thoughts that are put out here on these forums gives people like flipz more opportunities to create bigger better things. Who knows, you may say something that puts everyone on the right track to fixing this 2.1 data issue.
@flipz - I always thought kernels just magically appeared. No luck with this one? Maybe we should find a corn farmer...wow that was a bad pun.
Are you 100% sure this is a kernel issue? I was just doing some research on the RIL and it seem that would certainly hold the keys to enable data and such. I've been looking up from my phone so my knowledge is limited since I haven't been home since tues.
So if we can write a Sprint specific RIL then we'd be looking pretty good. Or is the issue that the RIL is compiled into the kernel itself.

I think I recall reading that the RIL is in the kernel. I am sure I will be corrected if I am wrong.
Darn manufacturers keep messing us over. Moment with the jacked up file system so Root stuff won't work but they release source (minus RFS stuff required to get the real goodies working). HERO with no kernel but it seems like everything else is inline.

Is anyone building one of these, I know 1.5 is way outdated, but it maybe loads faster than the htc rom were runnning
Hmmm.... I have no idea what ASOP means,

The reason you are seeing ones for 1.6 and 2.x are because they support CDMA. HTC had to hack the crap out of our 1.5 to make it work.

No HTC apps, no google bits, just 100% stock android.
it's AOSP not ASOP.
Android Open Source Project
Yeah I thought of trying this today actually but then realised that 1.5 doesn't support cdma. 1.6+ is our only option.
I think the closest your going to get is if you switch to using the android default home rather then the one HTC ships with and then manually removing all the unwanted applications that cause overhead and take up space.

I've said this about 20 different times now over the past couple of months but I will eventually be making a rom like this. It's sole purpose will be as the base of my kitchen, but others will be able to use it as a vanilla-as-possible build. I was like 80% complete with it when the 1.56MR got released. A lot of the work I had done was voided because they made a modification to every single stock apk, so I had to start over and I just never got back to it.

I was just suggesting a starting point if BrianDigital was interested in making the stock rom lighter for his own interests.

Flipz, how were you doing this? I mean, is it possible to actually remove the entire htc framwork? I'm assuming some will still be there.
noticed that the psfree has been ported to a couple of cell phones (palm pre, nokia n900). i was wondering if it was possible for this to be ported over to our phone. it would be nice not to have to buy any extra hardware to do this. anyone who's smart know anything about this? like if it can be done, what would need to happen to make it work?
here is a site discussing the port to the pre. http://psx-scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=65355
they released a version for nexus one
needs unlocked bootloader
well that sucks. there is really no way around it? i'm sure if someone smart enough really wanted to do it, someone would. probably not that much interest in it though. too bad, although if someone were to figure it out i would definitely throw a coffee donation their way.
well seems a lot of devices are compatible:

Well it says compatibility for the Milestone is in progress...which also has a locked bootloader like the X. So maybe you could check with the devs working on the Milestone or try the Milestone release when it comes out?

i don't think the milestone will help us, it seems like it works because it has the musb usb controller. not sure what we ahve with the dx but somenoe woudl definitely have to do some work to make this happen. too bad nobody seems to have this phone.
I've been looking today for a good way to go about compiling the module for froyo-based dx, as I've been wanting to for tun.ko as well to get vpn working again. Prior I found a .config and module compiled, but haven't seen anything for Froyo around the tun. Now there's additional motivation to make the psjailbreak module loadable, and figure there's got to be a way to resolve symbol issues.
I also saw another thread for overclocking modules, so figure someone's got to have a clean .config that works to also produce these *other* modules on and for a dx.
Not sure also how the boot.img file works in the exploit, if the signed bootloader would play against this. If the module were loaded after the boot process, it doesn't seem to care, but not at all certain how much this is modifying the boot process yet.

t4tav says that this bypasses the bootloader so no need to unlock it
this should work if the ps3-signed.zip flashes into the X with the custom recovery!
otherwise the files inside it need to be replaced with X compatible ones, I can't try because I'm at work but I will later. if it doesnt work you can always flash sfb back to stock

Since the other thread seems to be getting off topic, what topic? I'm afraid to see this thread in a day or two.
Anyways, does anybody know where AOSP and his all-knowing powers stand with this? There's plenty of chatter about what version he's on and all, but does anybody know for sure what he has so far?
I say give it some time. It took a while for Froyo to be fully functional. I'm not too keen on rushing the progress.
But as for GB, it looks really neat. Has anybody got any benchmarks data on it and compared it to the latest Froyo release?
i almost got a 5 on linpack, jit enabled. if u enable jit in gb though ive found video playback is screwey and dont work all the time. or maybe thats just the rom itself cause ive been having video playback problems with jit off to

Haven't been following the IRC. I don't much like the web based one. I follow 3 from Trillian, but I can't access the one he uses (only tried twice).
I do have hunches as to the slience. A lot of things have changed recently I think he might be working out.
-Root issues - being wiped out because of binary update
-ClockworkMOD - change to 3.0.0.2 supporting the new image methods
-gmail - critical to some, he's probably working on this over..
-camera. not critical to next update, but long run would be nice to have working, even to aosp i'm sure.

Rest assured I'm not looking to try and rush things. Hell, it's my daily as is.
So, the Fascinate recently had a Gingerbread leak drop..... Since that phone is our phone's brother, do you think we will get it too...... Eventually? What do you guys have to say?
Btw: I am still on Vacation for another few days... When I get back I am going to recruit some graphic artists or whatever on xda to see if they can photoshop a quick green wave, or some other color that you guys like... Because I suck at graphic designing... It shouldn't be hard for anyone interested, because they can just use the template from the original blue wave.... Hopefully xD
Btw2: did you guys see the continuum softkey topic on the front page a couple days ago? D

i would think the continuum would follow the fascinate with gb...however given the rather poor sales of the device (by all accounts a commercial flop) verizon/samsung just might not feel like spending the r&d on it...but im hopeful for u guys they would
I find it unlikely we even get Froyo, yet alone GB. Furthermore, I find it unlikely any developer is going to work on porting GB for the Continuum with the Fascinate leak.
Verizon isn't going to pay Samsung to update this phone. With such low sales, it's more cost-efficient for Verizon to forget about us than it is to release updates. Business is business.
Obviously I could be wrong.

Pretty much this. It's not going to happen. I've given up on ever getting an update. As soon as my job picks up (FINALLY) I'm selling it and getting a charge or x2 or something.
No expert here..but willing to venture
Did the update, it worked with out a glitch.. was able to root using superoneclick from xda..worked if I did not allow it to install busybox, when I did for somereason my phone wouldnt charge? Which btw adding busybox never popped up before when using superoneclick to root other androids...so far so good.. so far the changes are minimal.....a few extra settings such as font...but nice to have all the same..oh netflix works from the link provided with the leaked instructions...could be a tad scary to flash using ogdin..but it works.
Wait you updated you fascinate with this or your continuum?
I was actually just going to ask something too. If the big problem with modding is the ticker and everything else with the fascinate is essentially the same...can't I just update with this and noir have the ticker work or will the absence of ticker support just kill the phone?
I have tried before to install fascinate odin files on our phone... Didn't work xP The graphic drivers are different, so you can't see anything xP

I figured it would be a no... could we not just c/p the modules for the drivers and over write the ones for the fascinate? Sorry for asking a lotof questions I'm just horrid at programming so I can't exactly just go try it... Though I want to learn if theres any chance we could get this running from the fascinate build. Anyone know how hard that would be? Or is that even possible?

They aren't compatible. The drivers we have are for kernel 2.6.29, and the Froyo kernel is 2.6.32.9 (the .9 doesn't really matter to much) and Gingerbread is 2.6.35.x Somewhere betwee 6.29 and 6.32, there was a huge change to the kernel source, and I'm guessing any drivers built for the Eclair kernel we have are not going to work well on Froyo. The Fascinate Froyo source works to build a kernel, but the initramfs sucks, and it isn't something that is easy to troubleshoot really, and I don't have time right now to do so.
Thanks ImNuts, really. I have until about my birthday, July 1st, until I start reteaching myself programming and building it myself. Least I can do is try lol.

If you can get the kernel working, you should at least be able to get most of the system to Froyo, based on the Fascinate releases. The ticker would be an absolute no-go IMO, but you should be able to get the soft-key button images on there.
At this point I don't even care about the ticker. It doesn't work for 90% of what I want to use it for anyways. I would rather just have a phone capable of Froyo use haha.

Yeah, me too I had been working on the breber github source and finally got a bootable ERIS that I could adb into and captured a dmesg as well. Only thing lacking (small issue), is that none of the buttons worked I had an idea on a fix but lost my dev box and am waiting on a replacement MB to continue.
Question is, how different is the source tree for this kernel from the breber github source? When I used the breber source, I did change many kernel options to build many items as modules (ipv6 etc...) I've used the stock CM7 as the base w/ many mods for our older phones, and was able to reduce the size of the kernel image fairly significantly. Bootup was a bit quicker, but main idea was to remove some options that are rarely used, but still make them available as modules.
I've not tested this kernel yet, but I had to make a lot of mods to the defconfig etc... to get breber to work. 2.6.35 gives us some nice features, such as auto memory compaction / defragmentation etc... In the short time I was able to use it, it appeared to run better than the .29 we've all been using.

Yes, finally I just got it up and running end of last week and have been playing catch-up. I use this box as a mailserver for my domain, so it spent the first 10 hours processing over 49000 messages.
Funny timing though, just compiled .35 and was getting ready to flash it. At this point, I have no idea where I left off Maybe I'll smoke the Eris next....
as long as we get a download link soon
I was hoping we might hear some updates for the people working on this...
It would be a big help if those who have gotten it to boot would post their source so others can help get this to a stable point without having to repeat work. I'd like to see Eris development stay alive even as many, including myself, have moved on to more powerful phones.

sounds good to me. I do have my box up and running, just haven't had much time to mess with it. somewhere along the the line, I screwed up my Conf, but I'll get it. It boots, but I've messed up the mtd enumeration, so no init gets started.
Just as an fyi, I'm using breber's github source with the arm 4.4.3 eabi.
Well, the good news is, I'm running 2.6.35 now. But.... the bad news is that it's on a new Moto Razr. However, I'll still be tinkering with the Eris in my spare time.
I've rooted the Razr, but I'll tell you. Getting recovery on it's a booger. Also, the battery is sealed in (I'm sure the 2 small screws at the top allow a lift out and disconnect). But, kinda got nervous for a sec when I tried to boot into recovery and got nowhere with no easy way to pull the batt. Overall, liking the phone a lot.
Now.... If only I can dig up my working config. I have a cloud based backup system that versions stuff. Need to go through and see if I've got something there.

Having a current generation phone is quite a change. I am enjoying my gnex a lot and since it doesn't need much modification, I still get to spend a good bit of my dev time with the eris .
Maybe we can talk workshed into messing with this .35 kernel again when you find that config...or he might be burnt out for awhile on the frustrations that are the kernel porting and the tbolt as a whole.
