Short question:
Do I need to update my SPL and the Radio? SPL and the Radio versions mentioned on haykuro's google code website seem to be different than what I have on my phone. Here's the fastboot mode information from my phone (with three skateboarding Androids at the bottom)

I had the stock G1, followed this awesome tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480 to root my phone and installed JF1.42 on my phone. Last night, I decided to try haykuro's 5.0.1Gr2 and ended up with "Build Number: unknown" in the About Phone section and unable to download any apps from the android market (I guess due to the missing keys and proper identification).
And I found that haykuro had a newer version of radio listed on his website and also his own SPL. So, I am wondering... should I upgrade to haykuro's versions? TIA

Here's a good reference for everything related to the haykuro builds:

Here's the short version, though:
I haven't really looked at the new haykuro SPL, but from the version info you posted, you currently have HardSPL. This is fine - the new SPL isn't required.
As for the radio - it's recommended that you use the radio image meant specifically for the build you are using, in general.
Also, it looks like you've got the RC33 version of the radio, and I personally had no problems using the RC33 radio with the haykuro 5.0.2H build, but others have experienced weird signal problems, so if you start having signal issues, I'd update, otherwise it's just up to you.
Hello,
I am running 5.0.1G (not R2) and only updated the radio from his site.
Mine was running fine on the RC33/RC9 radio, but heard battery life was better with thenewer radio....which it is!
I have not changed the SPL, still running the original Hard SPL and it works fine.
Thanks for the quick responses guys. I will update the Radio then and leave the SPL alone, for now .
I have a question about SPL, maybe a noob's one, so please forgive me.
According to what I have read so far, u must have the latest Radio in order to avoid bricking your phone when updating to the Haykuro's SPL. My baseband version is 62.50S.20.17U_2.22.19.26I, not exactly the same as the one posted on Haykuro's page, which is 62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I. Is that a big deal ? I really want to move to Haykuro's SPL or at least another one beside stock's SPL.
Thanks in advance
The haykuro spl or more commonly known around here as the danger spl is only needed if you plan on using or trying a hero rom, for any other rom like jf or cyanogen you can use your stock spl or hard spl. If you do plan on using a hero rom just go to android devolpment section, click on a hero rom and it will have a link to the lastest radio and spl that is needed. Just make sure that you flash the radio first before the spl or u will have a brick
Hello everyone,
I have the following phone:
Code:
Model Number: HTC Magic
Firmware Version: 1.5
Baseband Version: 63.18.55.06HU_6.35.07.29
Kernel Version: 2.6.27-5469d459 / htc [email protected] #901
Build Number: 3.03.751.4 CL#75468 release-keys

I think it's the Taiwanese Sense ROM for the Magic flashed over the original one.
I want to revert to the lower versions of the Radio and the SPL so I can install Cyanogen or any of the others.
While this ROM is nice and I have gotten used to it, it has some bugs that bother me.
No root = no bluetooth transfer
Ringtones stop in the middle of ringing
Number of desktops can't be customized
etc.
Can someone show/tell me a method in which I can downgrade the Radio and SPL to a lower version, which will allow me the flashing of various other ROMs? I read here, that this is a Perfect SPL and therefor can't be downgraded.
Any ideas or suggestions?
I am relatively new to this.
Hi,
I'm currently with 3.22.20.17 radio
and I have amon_ra ENG SPL (Hboot 1.33.2010)
do I have any advantage on upgrading to more recent spl and radio?
another question, on the 2.1 rom's the delivery reports are not working good! :S
for eg: I have my phone off and someone send me an sms, if I turn the phone for eg at 6pm it will say on the report that the sms was sended at that time and that is not correct it was before...
on my 1.5 it worked good, any guess why this is happening?
thanks
any help?
Hi everyone. I'm new to Android and so far I'm loving it.
My Magic has the stock Rogers ROM and from what I can gather reading this forum, it doesn't have the e911 update. It doesn't have Sense UI and has the earlier build. The phone's info:
HBOOT: 1.33.0009
RADIO: 3.22.20.17
Baseband version: 62.52S.20.18U_3.22.20.17
Build number: 2.16.631.6 146733 CL#33776 release-keys
So now the questions that I haven't been able to figure out from searches:
1) Does the e911 problem affect 911 usage on AT&T's network?
2) Has a way been discovered to gain root on Magics that have been updated with the e911 ROM? ** nevermind... found answer **
3) Is there still a problem with upgrading under Windows 7?
Thanks for any help.
Answer to 1.
Yes. If you are running Rogers original 1.5 build, you are prone to the 911 problem. The problem is not with the network, but in the software on the phone. When you dial 911, it should start the GPS so the long/lat are sent to the cellular carrier as a Wireless Phase II 911 call, but instead the phone sends a procedure call to an invalid or null pointer and crashes. Or something like that.
You're running an easily rootable SPL. Don't bother E911 updating it will save you the trouble of making a Goldcard.
You should either:
1- Flash the new radio and engineering SPL in CursorDroid's thread and get his ROM or any other ROM compatible with the new radio
2- Keep the Current Radio and flash an Engineering SPL and run Cyanogen's Eclair ROM.
Hi all,
First of all sorry if this has been already covered, but I did search the forum and cyanogen's forum too and I didn't find anything relevant.
The only thing relatively close to my problem was this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=378692
but it seems it was a carrier related problem...
I have recently flashed my HTC Magic 32A (Vodafone Romania) from the original ROM to CM 6.1.0-DS and patched with ezterry's biffmod kernel patch (2.6.34.7). Apart from the greenish tint I had before flashing ezterry's patch things have been running smoothly and fast and everything worked!
But I have switched recently to another carrier, a Dutch carrier, Telfort which runs on KPN's network. And since then I have been experiencing dropped calls for every call after aprox. 1 min into the conversation no matter if I was calling were being called. After trying to remove as many applications as I could, trying different settings, nothing seemed to solve my problem. So I tried one last thing: turning off the data connection. And this has worked flawlessly. If I keep the data connection turned off I do not drop any calls!
I must mention that this sim has been running before in an HTC wildfire with the stock rom without any problem (data + voice calls worked well). So it is not a carrier problem.
I have been thinking of upgrading to a newer radio. Do you guys think this might solve my problem? Or does anybody have any suggestions of what I could do to fix this?
Thanks!

Mod version: 6.1.0-DS

This is exactly same as me, the calls auto off around one mins.
Sometimes, i cannot hear the voice from callers but they said they can hear me, so i reboot the phone and turn back to normal.
Any advice is highly appreciate!
