Hi everyone. I'm new to Android and so far I'm loving it.
My Magic has the stock Rogers ROM and from what I can gather reading this forum, it doesn't have the e911 update. It doesn't have Sense UI and has the earlier build. The phone's info:
HBOOT: 1.33.0009
RADIO: 3.22.20.17
Baseband version: 62.52S.20.18U_3.22.20.17
Build number: 2.16.631.6 146733 CL#33776 release-keys
So now the questions that I haven't been able to figure out from searches:
1) Does the e911 problem affect 911 usage on AT&T's network?
2) Has a way been discovered to gain root on Magics that have been updated with the e911 ROM? ** nevermind... found answer **
3) Is there still a problem with upgrading under Windows 7?
Thanks for any help.
Answer to 1.
Yes. If you are running Rogers original 1.5 build, you are prone to the 911 problem. The problem is not with the network, but in the software on the phone. When you dial 911, it should start the GPS so the long/lat are sent to the cellular carrier as a Wireless Phase II 911 call, but instead the phone sends a procedure call to an invalid or null pointer and crashes. Or something like that.
You're running an easily rootable SPL. Don't bother E911 updating it will save you the trouble of making a Goldcard.
You should either:
1- Flash the new radio and engineering SPL in CursorDroid's thread and get his ROM or any other ROM compatible with the new radio
2- Keep the Current Radio and flash an Engineering SPL and run Cyanogen's Eclair ROM.

Hello,
I have purchased just last week T-mobile pocket PC in the US, however now I am back at my home (Eastern Europe) where we use GSM (Alcatel)
The following is rom and radio version:
Rom version: 3.14.40 ENG
ROM date: 11/26/02
Radio Version: 6.18
Protocol version: 324e4
My question is what do I need to unlock this to work with my GSM company. When I paid for this ($625) I paid a phone withouth service activation.
Regards,
Bucky
Hy.
Why don't you try this question in the unlocking-section?
Why don't you read the other tasks in this section?
To unlock your T-Mobile pocket PC you need a serial cable to connect your PC with your PDA and the XDA-Manipulator-software from www.xda-developers.com
An other problem that exists will be the different GSM frequencies. As you have in USA 1900MHz you'll have in europe 900/1800Mhz. But i'm not sure if this is really so. You have to take a look at your provider (Alcatel)
Regards
Stefan
Stefan, thank you very much for your prompt reply.
However, I have been reading that the unlocked versions of T-mobile
had a Radio Version 3* or 4*, and the RADIO VERISION on my T-mobile is 6.18, thus I am not sure if this software will work out or not.
Please reply as soon as possible if you know the answer to this one.
Hey Bucky.
Most people hav Radio VErsion 3* oder 4* becuase this are european Radio Versions.
The US VErsions have othe numbers like your 6* .....
Like the posting of a XDA Developer the manipulater should work with all available Radio VErsions.
Just try it......
I see. However when I read the xda manipulator, the developers say that they have tried this only on radio version 4.06 and 4.10
Quote: " We've tested this on Radio version 4.06 and 4.10. If you dare, please let us know if you find it to work on other radio versions".
I didn't find any message that someone tried with Radio version 6.18
Do you know anyone that has tried this on US versions of T-mobile?
We have reports of succesful unlocking on US versions as well. XDAmanipulator will work with any radio version.
Peter
Hey just to add I have been one of them. You have pretty much all the same settings as mine. Just follow the instruction on the manipulators site and it will work fine. You will be done in seconds.
Short question:
Do I need to update my SPL and the Radio? SPL and the Radio versions mentioned on haykuro's google code website seem to be different than what I have on my phone. Here's the fastboot mode information from my phone (with three skateboarding Androids at the bottom)
DREA100 PVT 32B
HSPL10.95.3000
CPLD-4
RADIO-1.22.14.11
Oct 20, 2008

Longer Description:
I had the stock G1, followed this awesome tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480 to root my phone and installed JF1.42 on my phone. Last night, I decided to try haykuro's 5.0.1Gr2 and ended up with "Build Number: unknown" in the About Phone section and unable to download any apps from the android market (I guess due to the missing keys and proper identification).
And I found that haykuro had a newer version of radio listed on his website and also his own SPL. So, I am wondering... should I upgrade to haykuro's versions? TIA

Here's a good reference for everything related to the haykuro builds:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Dream__haykuro_Cupcake
Here's the short version, though:
I haven't really looked at the new haykuro SPL, but from the version info you posted, you currently have HardSPL. This is fine - the new SPL isn't required.
As for the radio - it's recommended that you use the radio image meant specifically for the build you are using, in general.
Also, it looks like you've got the RC33 version of the radio, and I personally had no problems using the RC33 radio with the haykuro 5.0.2H build, but others have experienced weird signal problems, so if you start having signal issues, I'd update, otherwise it's just up to you.
Hello,
I am running 5.0.1G (not R2) and only updated the radio from his site.
Mine was running fine on the RC33/RC9 radio, but heard battery life was better with thenewer radio....which it is!
I have not changed the SPL, still running the original Hard SPL and it works fine.
Thanks for the quick responses guys. I will update the Radio then and leave the SPL alone, for now .
I have a question about SPL, maybe a noob's one, so please forgive me.
According to what I have read so far, u must have the latest Radio in order to avoid bricking your phone when updating to the Haykuro's SPL. My baseband version is 62.50S.20.17U_2.22.19.26I, not exactly the same as the one posted on Haykuro's page, which is 62.50S.20.17H_2.22.19.26I. Is that a big deal ? I really want to move to Haykuro's SPL or at least another one beside stock's SPL.
Thanks in advance
The haykuro spl or more commonly known around here as the danger spl is only needed if you plan on using or trying a hero rom, for any other rom like jf or cyanogen you can use your stock spl or hard spl. If you do plan on using a hero rom just go to android devolpment section, click on a hero rom and it will have a link to the lastest radio and spl that is needed. Just make sure that you flash the radio first before the spl or u will have a brick
i have a 32b sapphire (aka Mytouch3g) and i would like to upgrade my radio it doesnt seem to get as good of reception as my G1 did after i did the radio/spl update
so my question is can i change it from the radio that comes on it to the new radio update i used on my g1(they are both 32b boards right?) without bricking my device?

just a thought... if i flashed the danger SPL (haykuro's danger SPL) i should in theory be able to update the radio with the latest OTA radio update because the g1 and mytouch use same radios right?
please some insight would be grand
I also have a mytouch 3g T-mobile USA phone, and my reception is okay, but I think it can be better. Looking to flash to the latest greatest radio, but I don't want to brick my phone
I am also using drizzy's latest hero rom.
my mytouch's radio ends with 26i which was what the latest g1 radio ended with. Maybe mytouch already comes with latest?
Baseband is 62.50s.20.17h_2.22.19.26I
I bought my magic about 2 months ago... And 50 roms ago... lol
Bump
Where can I find the latest radio update?
Thanks!
EDIT: I have a 32a Magic.
I didn't find so many informations about this version of the radio, and I'm a bit confused: is this radio compatible with Magic 32A (and 32B??) or Dream? Because in some posts I see it used on Dream, but looks like a numbered version for Magic.
Can someone please help me before I brick my device?
Thanks!
im Running 3.22.26.17
Im running 3.22.26.17 as my radio with rogers, there are some draw backs
i get dropped to EDGE often.
If your phone is a Rogers 32a you can try the 6.35 radios they work great. (be sure to update to the proper SPL aswell)
how is 3.22.23.18 working for you?
Well, I managed to do something which I regret profusely now.
When I heard that the HTC Magic was getting an official update I thought that it would have been a fast, optimised Froyo experience. Boy was I wrong.
Now I'm stuck with a phone that can't open the messaging application without closing the homescreen process and the old methods to root my phone no longer work.
And to top it off, I wanted to use CyanogenMod 4 since 1.6 runs the best on my phone, yet I don't know if I can do that anymore since the update also changed the radio and I think the SPL.
So, long story short, how can I get a 1.6 ROM on this phone now?
Also an unimportant question, would Replicant still work on this phone if it has the new radio?
Is there no one who can help with this?
I was just wondering what ROMs are compatible with the new radio and SPL.
They're 2.22.28.25 and 1.33.0013 respectively, I'm pretty sure they are anyway.

Read description:
SUPPORTED SPL'S: 1.33.0013|1.33.2013|1.33.3013|1.33.0013d
This rom is compatible...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932118
for 32b you need SPL 1.33.0013d and RADIO 2.22.28.25 or 27.08 just flash normal ginger yoshi
Another compatible rom
All you need is get root and flash custom recovery, then rom through recovery...
