I had previously had GPS unlocked on my Alltel 6800 with one of the cooked wm6.1s. Long story... phone stolen. just got new phone. I downloaded the "official" 6.1 from htc (i wanted to keep bubble breaker this time) but now i dont know how to unlock the gps (I tried to use Google Maps and "my location" and "google gps" were not working).
Any ideas on what to do? Either reply or email me [email protected]
thanks.
Yeah i did the same, tryed to revert back to 3.35 rom when everything was working and couln't, but the only gps thats working now is my sprint navigation, but i hate it, the goole maps was alot better, now im stuck with this crappy program till i figure a way to get a tom tom or garmin xt working on my mogul
try this
i believe these files are missing from alltel rom, i have packed these in a cab for you.
i installed it on storage card and no luck.
does it need to be installed on the device itself?

Should be installed on device.
Here you go. I just did this and it works great.
http://www.smartdevicefreeware.com/how-to-enable-gps-on-the-alltel-htc-ppc6800/
Will this work on sprints titan cuz the gps on google maps or windows live doesnt work anymore since i went and updated to wm 6.1?
anybody gonna let me noe?
these files should help alltel rom only becuase that rom has these driver files missing.
you have to provide little more info. such as radio version, rom version and how do you know your gps is not working etc etc.
My rom is 3.56 and radio is 3.42, with windows mobile 6.1, the gps was working when i had 3.35, then I updated to 3.56 and google maps gps locater stopped working, itll just seek a gps satallite forever and never pick up anything, while before it would pick it up and keep pace with me where ever i drove so i dunno wat the heck this new update was for man, this sucks

i have the same problem. i'm using dcd 3.35. don't feel like installing, registering, and customizing all my crap again. i found this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=403280
Hello Guys,
I have a htc touch (vogue) from bell. I upgraded it with the bell rom on htc site one year ago. The GPS has worked ever since. However, it stopped working last friday. In google map, it is always "seeking for satellit (0)". I tried htc gps tool, I can see some (3~6) sat in view. I can even get some gps position data (eg. $GPGGA,120214.50,4531.116641,N,07339.266674,W,0,00,1.0,0.0,M,,,,*23) but not able to fix it. I also tried hard reset and re-installing the same rom/radio. It will not come back. Can somebody help me out?
Thanks a lot

Did you check the windows Settings to see if you're still in com4 with 4800 bauds?
Yes. It is always com4 and 4800.
Have you confirmed that location is still on?
You may want to try backing up your data and re-flashing the original Bell ROM to see if it changes/resets anything. A number of variables are possible with what you described.

I played a little bit with the registry setting. It looks like the gps location I posted above is not my location but a place about one mile from my place, most likely a location of the cell phone tower nearby. I mean that information may comes from agps. I lost the location when I changed the registry gpsmode to 1.

Thank you for your suggestion. I will try to find the cd with the old bell rom which I really have no idea where it is. As a backup, is there a bell old rom I can use online? I just do not want to play around with the unlock thing.

Go to HTC's site, look up the HTC Touch and go to Support, you should find Software Updates and Bell should be listed as one. They're hosting the latest ROM, I'd suggest flashing that.
I am also with Bell and having the exact same problem since the weekend. I have been running NFSFAN's latest rom for the last few months. I figured it might be a temporary glitch on Bell's part, but please let us know if reverting back to the Bell firmware restores your GPS.

LOL...so i'm not the only one too!
I thought I screwed up my phone after flashing to android (nand) and the GPS wouldn't work, so i flashed back to nfsfan's rom. It didn't work, so I just flashed to stock...and it didn't help, hence I though I screwed up my phone gps, and came to post about this.
Little did I know....it may not actually be me...
Let us know when it starts to work...
A-GPS server from Bell appears to be down.
If you open up GPSViewer on NFSFAN's ROM after awhile it will get some satellites but not get a full lock.
I will see what sort of fix can be made for this ....
Same thing as of last couple days
Mine eventually started working after opening gps viewer from system tools and cold starting.... what a pain! also iGuidance did not pick up the GPS as before

Same here. My GPS was working on my Touch (NFSFAN) and Blackberry in St. John's, NL (Aliant), but I travelled to Ottawa on Monday and the GPS is not working on either device now.
In Quebec, takes longer to get a connection but still gets one...
just for reference, gps lock using vin's 23506 on a Bell touch works fine - less than 10 seconds.
I do wish nfsans would release a new rom for the vogue tho
looks like the agps servers are up again, getting good locks now
Hi all,
I am trying to find out how widespread the GPS locking problems are with this model. I am talking about non-assisted GPS, which can be tested using the "GPS Test" application on the market.
So, how is the GPS on your phone performing using GPS Test? Please give some detailed information like lock time, number of sattelites, urban/countryside location, and if possible firmware version of your phone.
---
My Spica cannot get a lock at all, will see up to 11 satellites but most of them with signal strength bars at zero. Firmware versions tested (all same result)
1.5 (XEJB2)
2.1 (XXJD1, XXJD4, XXJF2, XXJC3)
Same pb with my wife's spica. Samdroid version with FE7.
Can't lock withour assistance. What a pitty.
Go to your Settings -> Date & Time -> Uncheck Automatic and see if it helps
Or you can try this (need root)
http://forum.samdroid.net/f38/gps-speedup-1262/
http://forum.samdroid.net/f10/fasterfix-1747/ <-- same but easier
i can get a fix under 2 minutes if I stay still...moving, it can take an eternity

i just don't bother with that any more...I might do it again after a month without wiping any data
rooting is like breathing to me ... as it would be to most of the people here
Anyone found a solution yet?
My spica wont connect via gps either. It just keeps blinking and nothing happens...not even after 30min.
I've tried GPStest and it reports that 12 satellites are in view but non in use, and there is no bars everything is at 0...not picking any signal at all :S
I tried my friend's one too and he gets a signal imediatley and a lock after about 10-30seconds.
Any solution to this? Is it a software problem or hardware problem?

I installed the alpha CyanogenMod 2.2 and GPS is working like a charm!
Problem was with the wrong libraries being used in many of the custom roms found at SamdroidMod. Devs found out about this issue and fixed it in this 2.2 release.
I'm running original firmwire which i got on the phone. (XXJE4)
I'm not willing to install alpha cyanogen of froyo yet...Is there really no other solution? I've had a chance to compare my spica to another one with original firmwire (JE4 too) ant that other spica worked while my gps had no lock. Also i had the chance to try one with samdroid on and it worked too.
Mine works from time to time. at the moment it works, earlier today it wouldn't get a lock no matter how long i waited.
First thing-delete /data/xtra.bin- this is data for agps which seems to cause gps locking problem. You can do it with RootExplorer/SUFBS or any file manager with root rights. Or use GPS Status and Reset agps data from setting. You can also try to swap libsec-ril.so, JF2 version works best for me. If you want I can provide update packages for libsec-ril.so
i have installed cyanogenmod 7.1 on mine, and can get a lock under 1min30s outside or under 3min in the bus near the window.
I have a rooted spica with android version: 2.2.2, baseband version: i570EXXJC1, kernel version:2.6.29 and Mod version:SamdroidMod-2.2.2-a9.
When I go to google maps app and click set location I always get an error saying: location temporary unavailable ! I checked the option on Settings->Location and security->Use wireless networks and use GPS satellites. And my phone is connected to the internet.
I just bought the phone last week, and its really embarrassing not getting this to work.

thanks for the useful info, you saved my life by this post.
i thought my gps is wrong in my spica then it was just a bug in the cooked rom. cyanogen mod is cool and gps is working now perfectly.
thanks again!
With spicagenmod + hp/yonip kernel gps work very well.
I enabled use wireless netwok in location services but in google maps, or any other app it doesn't find my location.
I am not sure if it worked on stock because I didn't know about that setting till after I flashed a custom rom.
Tried different roms and it doesn't work. However I noticed that it worked in epic experence 2.0.1 froyo rom - but I don't want to run froyo right now.
Now if I enable wireless and gps it gets. 30m lock. However I want to just use wireless network for location (I don't need an exact location lock, just general location for searching for businsses locally)
Maybe this is a known issue but driving me nuts. Thanks

I could never get that to work on 2.1.

Ugh maybe I should just run froyo but I didn't want to deal with any bugs.

So yeah 2.2 it finds my location No problem. Flashed back to stock 2.1 and it is says location can't be found at this time.
Is there some APK I can update it with from 2.2 lol. I don't mind sticking with 2.1 till 2.2 is officially released but ugh its really annoying having to put gps on just to look up a store nearby or something.
I am having the same problem with 2.2.1 build FRG83D, I wonder what happen as it was working on 2.2. It is a very annoying that it stop working. I am on Rogers network in Canada. I tried everything and nothing work. Anyone knows?
i used the GPS a lot in the stock version of the Epic 4G and everything worked perfectly, I flashed to 2.2 and now when i use it, it says my location is about 10-15 blocks away from my actual location 0.o, however, when i connected to a wireless network and refreshed the GPS, my location was correct, the only thing is that the navigation wont start, it gives me the driving directions, but the spoken ones never load up fast....ugh
Guys,
Just wondering before I jump to Android on NAND...has any workaround found for QuickGPS ? We need WinMO to download data the GPS satellite tracking data...Android programs like GPS Status are unable to do it (atleast when it was running through SD)...has it been taken care of
I use GPS a lot...infact for me its the most used smartphone feature..that is why i'm so concerned
Without QuickGPS...it takes long time to get a lock

QuickGPS just updates a file in your /windows folder. (I've just did a quick search and this file should be "packedEphemeris.ee" in windows folder)
Changes in your /windows folder will NEVER effect your Android build. There isn't anything related to it.
You can ask this to every android developer on xda hd2 section.

No Dude...doing QuickGPS download significantly speeds up in Android also...i myself have seen the results and so do other people...Its very well known solution..check here..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788455
I'm not sure how it works though...but read in this forum only, Android on HD2 can't write data onto GPS chip, it can read from it though..which explain why programs like GPS status don't have much effect...even though they do the same thing...

QuickGPS also don't write any data to chip. It just updates a file in windows folder, which is not related with Android.

I think the same. In windows it was a file that was downloaded locally.
When I had locking issues I had to remove that file, reboot and do quickgps again.
The reason that using quickgps etc seems to work in Android is that you already start the GPS receiver and hereby actually already starting the reception process. So if you use that GPS status progran and it says that it downloaded recent data for your receiver you already started the GPS receiver.
I do agree on the fact that there is something seriously wrong with the GPS driver.
On the HD2 with all the tools/gps proggies you get a lock and then you start seeing the bars which indicate the individual satellite strenght.
On my used to be Touch Pro running Android, and in WinMo (also HD2, HD, etc) you first see the sats and then you get the lock which is the way it should be.
^^QuickGPS dosen't start the GPS reciever...it only download the data..
I dont start the GPS receiver...normally just do quickgps download and boot back to android and its as good as WiMo

I know that but most people keep trying with different proggies (meaning GPS test, chartcross etc) and those definitaly start the receiver before actually using the eventual program they intended to use.
I am using QuickGPS data download to speed lock in Android and for me that definitely works. I used Android for few months before tried that method and my biggest problem then was that I couldn't get a GPS lock under 10-15 minutes. First boot after that I got lock in about 10 sec and that continued. GPS lock was always under a minute. Not even turning the phone off and booting into Android changed that. I kept on clicking "download" in winMo QuickGPS after that and so far I am happy with lock speed. I use GPS almost daily and turning it off after use always.
I dont have any technical knowledge of how the whole GPS system works and cant really claim that it has to do anything with how fast the lock is performed but for me everything looks like it does make a difference.

I use strictly Android, well with Nand no dual boot, and it locks within 1 minute here which is acceptable.
