Microsoft Marketplace - HD2 General

Has anyone been able to get anything decent from Microsoft Marketplace.
Seems just like an advertising gimmick!

Try the search... there is a .exe to get to other market places in different country's... US is the best.

Do you know where this .exe can be found?

Ahhh just re read your thread... searching now...

It's limited yet, that is for sure, but has potential. I am hopeful.
The one thing I do not like is that when I install an app from the marketplace I do not have any way to select where I want to install it to...In other words, I want to install the program to my SD card, not the phones main memory. This is not currently possible, which is pretty crazy. I am installing the programs directly on my phone, by way...is it possible to download them to your desktop and install them manually and do what I am wanting?

AAAHHH!! Where's my memory?

Ugh! I bought a 4gb storage card. Every application I download, I save to this card yet. I'm down to 3MB of system storage memory. What can I do about this? I'm sick of clearing my storage once a month to be able to use this phone without the memory error popping up. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there somethin I can do in my registry? I already have my emails and internet temporary files going to my storage card. What else can I do?
...........................................................................
1. Try another ROM-Are you still using the original rom it came with?
2. Make sure all you apps are closed - They usually just hide out open in the background.
3. Oxios Hibernate - I'm sure you can find a copy around here someplace. [Here ya go http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=374029]
4. Could be a memory leak. Certain programs have this effect on WM devices. {See 1.}
Also, remember that text messages take up room too. If you visit alot of websites, be sure to clear that also. I just cleared those 2 myself and I got like 5-6 MB free from just that.
clear temp storage even if it is on your card, it couldn't hurt. also delete keyboards that you installed unless you actually use them a lot because they take up a lot of room. move your ring tones to the SD card as they will still show up. update to the newest official ROM if you don't want to go to a custom, you'll get more memory with the new ROM but not much.

That is very untrue. I rarely run out of memory with Just2Clean.
how is that untrue? i'm on the new stock rom and there is more available memory for storage and program than the stock rom i was on previously.

Sorry I misread your post but I thought you meant a new ROM in general not the Latest T-Mobile Update. Which is still way under performing compared to what the cooks generate here.
oh yeah, i had open tough 5.2 for like a day and it had so much more room after all my stuff was installed, it was insane, but it had some problems that i couldn't deal with so i went back to stock.
What sorta probs?
I found that most of/all the default apps on the Wing are total crap. I use very few applications. I just get my email, browse with opera mini, play solitaire, and listen to mp3's. Any more than that I expect the device to have issues to a degree. It only has a 201mhz processor it can't be expected to do much more.
it would scroll through lists randomly which was pretty annoying. you can't use jivetalk (now beejiveIM) on it. and there were issues with the original dialpad such as being damn ugly, fixed it with a skin but then it does it's scrolling thing when i'm trying to dial a number and then won't let me hit anymore numbers and i have to go out of the dialpad and go back in.

slow down, take a breath....
what rom are you running ???
try installing the cab file for moving IE storage to Storage Card.
on your messages settings save all attatchments to storage card.
there is a solution but you have to let us know whats going on!!!!
robpet2, i happened to stumble on the cab link you have, 'plenty of cabs'. Is there a way to get a quick explaination of some of theme? or possible screen shots? thanks

haha... thats a good one.. cant do screenshots for all of them, just type in the name of the cab file in google with .cab at the end and do a search, they should all come up with descriptions.
I don't know what ROM I'm runnin. I don't even know what a ROM is. I look around these forums but no one explains, they just say use xyz cab. *shrugs* I'm totally lost
a rom is essentially the operating system that you use on your phone.
If you don't know what rom you're using, you're probably using the T-Mobile stock rom. We highly recommend flashing a custom rom from that POS.
To do that, you will need to use USPL or you will need to HardSPL your phone. Bear in mind that T-Mobile won't help you if they find a custom rom on your phone, but you can just flash back to the original before sending it in.
Read the USPL and HardSPL threads before taking any action

and on your storage memory issue...delete your old mail and text/picture messages then empty your email and text and mms deleted items. also google maps installs and stores its cache in storage memory even if you tell it to install on your card. those are the 2 biggest apps that eat away at my storage memory, although with the open touch 4 lite rom, i usually have 21mb free.

It seems to me that you are experiencing the memory issues that every new T-Mobile Wing is faced with. It has to do with the default Page Pool size.
The easiest way around this problem is to do an upgrade of the new T-mobile software. You can find this at:
http://member.htc.com/RuuDownload/T-mobileUS/Filedownload.aspx?pid=wing
or you can change the pagepool size manually following the instructions at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=313263
Good Luck

Marketplace for WM 6.1 is available!

http://mobile.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/downloads/get-marketplace.mspx
Unfortunately, it still requires that you install programs to the main memory as there is not option to install to SD.
Yes, this is ridiculous. Who will want to install apps on main memory, given the fact, that the SD card has many times more storage. Is it so hard for MS to realize that?!?
I never install on SD.
Any idea how to make it work as I am in USA for example. Most of the apps (free ones) are available for USA only. There was a thread for this thing, but I can not find it.

I don't know as I am in the US, so it worked by default but my guess is that it would be tied to whatever location you filled out for your live/hotmail account.. no?

AFAIK it does take the location from the SIM card.

A2SD is pointless

So Froyo is here and my phone is full... constant messages in the notificication bar saying sms cannot be received because the phone is full etc...
Wasnt Apps to SD meant to sort this, how can it when not even Google uses this feature, only one of my apps (skymap) uses it...
What about maps, earth etc... all the massive files
What a joke
Froyo release isn't even finished (not even really started) and you are complaining now? Just WAIT.

You do know you have to move those files manually right? Goto settings->Applications->Manage Applications->[App name here] then click move to SD Card. This only works with applications that the developer of the app flaged to be able to move to SD card.
I agree, it does suck. Even with the command that allows you to move all apps2sd, it is still horrible in my opinion. This is why I am back to using the old method of apps2sd, much more easier -- and it doesn't take up space on my main SD card partition.
Of course I know you do it manually, I went through all my apps hoping I could find some to move to get a txt message come through, pulling my hair out!
What is this, Apple now?
You're all idiots. Froyo JUST got released. Now devs actually have a reason to implement A2SD in their apps. That's right, the Froyo method requires each app to be made compatible first. And yeah you have to do it manually. So freaking educate yourselves before you start *****ing.
Yes and the froyo method only moves a portion of the app leaving a large portion on your phone. Also if you have to format your sd card then when you restore your back up to your sd card from your computer you still have to reinstall all of your apps because the implementation has some sort of encryption and screws you over. So your right we are all idiots because the google implemented a ****ty half ass version of apps 2 sd!

I am not sure who need education,
I do feel their implementation is flawed as well. The fact is that it's easy to see that the ext4 partition method is better and simpler.
Glad others have found it to be a pittyfull attempt
Its on par with Apples "multitasking"
I think it is good enough for a normal user. All other use app2sd anyway.
I also use the 'old' method.
I have an EXT3 partitin and it's much smoother and less internal memory is used.
I hate the fact that all apps that are on the SD the FROYO way don't work if you mount your SDCARD.
Im having a hard time of finding the benefits of Google version over the APPS2SD version.
Not knocking Googles version since its brand spanking new...but outside of the need to partition it seems better than Google version.

Yeah after seeing how it works on my nexus I plan on rooting my phone finally so I don't have to be annoyed by it in the future.
So if you install whole apps on the sd card... what happens to those with widgets you are currently using and you mount the sd card? It will totally screw the widgets right?
Edit: Nvm, that's why there's an ext3 partition right?
Grrr...stupid question.
Can I create an EXT partition at this point without wiping my SD card or losing data ?
Well I agree it is not as good as having an ext partition for apps2sd but I have had zero issues with the new version. I installed market manager and choose to install apps to the sd card. Manually move them over and reboot. Once booted I force close adw.launcher with a task manager and all apps show and work just fine. I have over 100 apps on my phone and almost all of them are on sd with the exception of widgets and a couple others for one reason or another. No glitches or problems whatsoever. not sure what you guys are doing wrong.

Can you explain the bolded ?
Theres so few apps enabled for SD and Im already out of space. There was a way to force all apps to sd googles way but it seemed to cause problems.
BTW the skin switched after I typed this freaked me the hell out...thought I accidently posted this on BangBros forum or something.

market manager gives you the option to pick where you want to install your apps. if you tell them to go to sd and then go into settings, applications, manage applications and click on an app you can click "move to sd" and the app will go there. Essentially it is the google method. I haven't used frf83 yet so I dunno if it's different.
forum skin change just freaked me out too haha!

App re-downloader script/program

I know I could use a program to back up my applications... but I am really against that kind of thing.
Every time I flash, which has become very often lately, I spend quite a bit of time getting the applications I really like from the market. I don't mind the download/install time, I just wonder if there would be some way to script this action so I could create a list of links or something to the applications, then just wait 10mins or so for them all to be downloaded and installed.

AppBrain market is what I use... it'll save a list of your applications then it will chain link it through the Market when you need to A) reinstall or B) update.
This looks like what I need, thanks.

Your against backups?
I believe in backing up things like contacts, only if they are stored in a very pure form free of errors... like how Android currently implements this with Gmail, it is great. I hated even getting the pim.vol file in Windows Mobile days, I know that within that file is tons of markup garbage, version-specific information, cached information, and even problems.
I do not like backing up programs at all. When I reformat a Windows install, it makes sense to not bring old programs over... they should be clean-installed from the latest version. I have translated this thinking over to my phone. The only benefit of a backup is saving time, eventually a problem will come of it I think.
So on my phone, I back up nothing. I flash the phone, it grabs the contacts and calendar fresh from Gmail, and then I reinstall all applications. I never question the cleanliness of it.

I have the exact same problem as OP, on the exact same model, and I had already tried that site, but I can't figure out how to know which variant I need? Also, I will probably need tips on HOW to install it properly (I'm rooted, if that matters, but am still at a fairly basic knowledge level and try to touch as little as possible). TIA
Still really needing help/guidance on the specifics here... poor kid's tablet has been useless for months and I'm terrified to do something wrong again.
i dont think that when u download .apk variant means much..... if you install as .zip then yes but nit as .apk i guess.... i mean you cant brick or anything when you install regular .apk
Okay, spent HOURS on this thing, and still can't get it installed... whether I download/install from chrome on the tablet, or download/sideload on the pc, or download from MoboMarket on the tablet, or from the app on the PC, every time the installation fails because apparently I'm "out of space", even though I have deleted EVERYTHING possible (safe) from the system memory and have over 2.5gb free, and the apk is around 45mb... really wishing I could afford to just buy the poor kid an iPad, so the amount of space we have is almost actual, and I wouldn't have to spend hours upon hours rooting, mounting folders, moving apps to SD card, every single time, and STILL always having no space to install due to internal memory, while the SD card has loads of nearly useless space. He just wants to play games, lol!!! (sorry for the ramble, just seriously frustrated, more than I've ever been with our iphones/pods, and I still have the fun of figuring out how to do all of this on my other kid's Neutab... not feeling the Android love, since it made external storage useless for apps).
