Ugh! I bought a 4gb storage card. Every application I download, I save to this card yet. I'm down to 3MB of system storage memory. What can I do about this? I'm sick of clearing my storage once a month to be able to use this phone without the memory error popping up. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there somethin I can do in my registry? I already have my emails and internet temporary files going to my storage card. What else can I do?
...........................................................................
1. Try another ROM-Are you still using the original rom it came with?
2. Make sure all you apps are closed - They usually just hide out open in the background.
3. Oxios Hibernate - I'm sure you can find a copy around here someplace. [Here ya go http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=374029]
4. Could be a memory leak. Certain programs have this effect on WM devices. {See 1.}
Also, remember that text messages take up room too. If you visit alot of websites, be sure to clear that also. I just cleared those 2 myself and I got like 5-6 MB free from just that.
clear temp storage even if it is on your card, it couldn't hurt. also delete keyboards that you installed unless you actually use them a lot because they take up a lot of room. move your ring tones to the SD card as they will still show up. update to the newest official ROM if you don't want to go to a custom, you'll get more memory with the new ROM but not much.

That is very untrue. I rarely run out of memory with Just2Clean.
how is that untrue? i'm on the new stock rom and there is more available memory for storage and program than the stock rom i was on previously.

Sorry I misread your post but I thought you meant a new ROM in general not the Latest T-Mobile Update. Which is still way under performing compared to what the cooks generate here.
oh yeah, i had open tough 5.2 for like a day and it had so much more room after all my stuff was installed, it was insane, but it had some problems that i couldn't deal with so i went back to stock.
What sorta probs?
I found that most of/all the default apps on the Wing are total crap. I use very few applications. I just get my email, browse with opera mini, play solitaire, and listen to mp3's. Any more than that I expect the device to have issues to a degree. It only has a 201mhz processor it can't be expected to do much more.
it would scroll through lists randomly which was pretty annoying. you can't use jivetalk (now beejiveIM) on it. and there were issues with the original dialpad such as being damn ugly, fixed it with a skin but then it does it's scrolling thing when i'm trying to dial a number and then won't let me hit anymore numbers and i have to go out of the dialpad and go back in.

what rom are you running ???
try installing the cab file for moving IE storage to Storage Card.
on your messages settings save all attatchments to storage card.
there is a solution but you have to let us know whats going on!!!!
robpet2, i happened to stumble on the cab link you have, 'plenty of cabs'. Is there a way to get a quick explaination of some of theme? or possible screen shots? thanks

haha... thats a good one.. cant do screenshots for all of them, just type in the name of the cab file in google with .cab at the end and do a search, they should all come up with descriptions.
I don't know what ROM I'm runnin. I don't even know what a ROM is. I look around these forums but no one explains, they just say use xyz cab. *shrugs* I'm totally lost
a rom is essentially the operating system that you use on your phone.
If you don't know what rom you're using, you're probably using the T-Mobile stock rom. We highly recommend flashing a custom rom from that POS.
To do that, you will need to use USPL or you will need to HardSPL your phone. Bear in mind that T-Mobile won't help you if they find a custom rom on your phone, but you can just flash back to the original before sending it in.
Read the USPL and HardSPL threads before taking any action

and on your storage memory issue...delete your old mail and text/picture messages then empty your email and text and mms deleted items. also google maps installs and stores its cache in storage memory even if you tell it to install on your card. those are the 2 biggest apps that eat away at my storage memory, although with the open touch 4 lite rom, i usually have 21mb free.

It seems to me that you are experiencing the memory issues that every new T-Mobile Wing is faced with. It has to do with the default Page Pool size.
The easiest way around this problem is to do an upgrade of the new T-mobile software. You can find this at:
http://member.htc.com/RuuDownload/T-mobileUS/Filedownload.aspx?pid=wing
or you can change the pagepool size manually following the instructions at:

'Storage memory is critically low. If the storage memory is not increased, other programs may not be able to start. Use File Explorer to delete files that are no longer needed or move some files to a storage card'
Any advice please?
Simple advice- you've got too much installed or saved to internal memory rather than the storage card.
Common culprits are browser caches for PIE and Opera, the HTC Album cache, media files like videos, music and pictures etc.
Use File Explorer to look in all the sub folders of My Documents as a starting point. Try moving all the big files over the the storage card.
Download Treeview from Microsoft Marketplace- it's free and can show you where all the storage memory is going.
should i do this through the phone direct or the pc?

You can do either- as long as you connect using ActiveSync rather than Disk Drive mode.
Using the PC is probably a slightly easier experience as Windows Explorer is more informative than the mobile version!

You don't have to do all that. It works great out of the box as well. Those are just possibilities, to customize it and tweak it.
Uninstall everything you have installed on your phone and reinstall it to the storage card. Always install applications to the storage card. That should fix your 'problem'.
Additionally, open the File Explorer, go to \Windows and delete the folder YouTube. That gives you additional free space but the folder comes back when you watch YouTube videos, so you can do this from time to time.
can i drag and drop my applications folder into the storage card via the pc?
Yes, but then the links in the start menu won't work anymore. Think of what happens when you move the Program Files folder on your PC. It's the same here.
can someone give me a step by step guide for doing this task please.
Go to Settings, Manage Applications, Uninstall Applications. There, uninstall all the applications you have installed to teh main memory.
Then reinstall them, this time to the storage card.
And delete the YouTube cache from time to time.
When we're speaking of free storage memory, how much memory do you all have free?
Mine is around 20 mb, is it to small?
Beacuse when i watched a video on youtube i got the same message as in the first post.

As I suggested in the earlier post, this is nothing to do with installed programs- most of those are pretty small and are unlikely to be grabbing the majority of your memory.
It is most likely that you have allowed some large files to be stored in the main memory. By default the phone DOES store most big user files like photos and videos on a storage card, but perhaps that has been altered somewhere?
You need to use a file finding utility to sort this- if Treesize is not available in your locality via Marketplace (or you can't access Marketplace) then you can try Spacefinder, a tiny, free program that will sort your files and folders in order of size, giving a hint as to where the memory may have gone. You can also download Treesize Mobile direct from Jam Software
Stuff like CleanRAM, SKTools etc is OK for clearing RAM but has no effect on Storage Memory apart from clearing some caches, though this can help a lot.
One other tip- as has been suggested, try and install programs onto a storage card, but not if they are system programs like Today plug-ins or keyboards etc. These must go into device memory otherwise you may get some startup errors.
This baffles me. I have just got an HD2 to replace my HD - I started to put exactly the same programs onto the HD2 as I had previously installed on my HD (I install all programs on the device). I got the low memory warning long before I put all the programmes on - on a brand new device with no internet browsing/video/music on device itself.
My HD has more memory than my HD2 - how is that possible?
None of these explanations seem to explain how this happens on my HD2 but not my old HD. I have NEVER had a low memory warning on my HD despite having used it for over a year and having installed more on it than I have managed on the HD2.
I have recently found the pre-installed Google Maps created a cache folder in device memory and pumped it up to 25 Megs. Deleted it of course.

The HD2 has more memory (ROM) but a huge chunk (150MB) is taken up by all the HTC Sense gubbins, leaving a relatively smaller amount free to the user. Ultra light cooked ROMs give about 150MB more ROM, and light ROMs about 100MB more than the default ROM.
It also seems that a lot of caching is going on- Album, Googlemaps, Browsers etc eating up ROM.
strange problem with the phones memory being full
seems to be loading kb files on but takes up mb space, just loaded a 3.5kn file but took up 30 mb space

Full because you have probably installed every app onto the internal memory. Reinstall them onto the SD card.

my memory reads
storage total 283mb used 166 free 117
program total 188 used 110 free 76
i have never got anywhwere near full
my mates HD2 is new and he has added very little in terms of apps(1 or 2 at the most ) but when i got to it today it only had about 35/40 mb free
i added the 4 short cut cab instead of the standard 3 short cut tabs and it used 30 mb of memory
something does seem right with this or is it that the HD2 short of memory

The HD2's shortness of memory is only relative. It still has 145MB free Storage after a hard reset, which is a huge increase on previous generations of WinMo phone before the HD, and TD models.
It is probable that users are inadvertantly storing photos and videos in main memory rather than the SD card. Add this to the effects of the Album and Browser caches and the memory can get filled up.
C-G: There is no way that a simple tweak installation would cause this problem. Either your friend has failed to notice something else, or there is some sort of major problem with the device, or somwe software he has installed.

theres no photos videos etc taking it up, i check all that i removed shazam that it saidd was 50 mb but only freed up about 5 mb
as for the app i installed it myself on his phone and it went from 40mb free space to 11 mb free in one go very strange
You are right, it does seem strange, and unrelated to other threads on this issue.
If you (or your friend) are really adventures you could give MTTY a go. It sort of formats the internal memory. After that flash a fresh (shipped) rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=616422
Combat,
Its me again. In the thread I pointed you to it also tells you how to move the album and opera caches to storage card. Have you tried these tips?
If you do and you still have problems then backup the data on the device, do a hard reset, then on reboot, check the available memory and use that as a startpoint (compare it to the public specs to make sure you are there or thereabouts). Then reinstall all your apps onto the external storage card (not the internal memory) and see what happens.
Oh, one more thing before you do all this; install Showcase, which is a task manager, and see what programmes are running in the background that you thought were closed. These eat memory and can cause the symptoms you allude to.
Whatever you do, DON't go playing with MTTY. Its an advanced tool and you can do some serious damage if you don't know what you are doing.
I am confident that if you follow the steps here you will solve your problems.
If yo don't, return the device for an exchange.

As the others have said, there is something seriously wrong here
Shazam is actually less than 1MB in size, though saved tags may take some space.
If this is showing as 50MB and it isn't being recovered there is something drastically wrong.

Tell him to stop messing around and return this as a faulty device
He's now had 2 major issues with different aspects of the phone- memory allocation and now camera problems.
It is likely that there is some sort of fault with the memory chip itself leading to internal memory errors. This may also explain the other hardware issues if the device is trying to load these services into an unaddressable memory location.
Hello, I am a newbie, but one frustrating factor I've been dealing with is that there is virtually no information on the "cheaper" tablets. I have a ZEEPAD I purchased from Amazon. It is a lot of fun for a VERY small price.
However, now I have a memory problem. After resetting the tablet, it shows that my internal memory is full, even though there are NO apps installed. I cannot install anything from the market; all installs fail because the tablet detects or thinks there is no memory available.
I have an old CRUZ tablet, and I can get into the program by holding down the + volume when pressing the power button, but that does not work with this tablet.
In the "info" section of the tablet, it states that this is a TWD_MID tablet, android 4.0.4. There has to be something I can try before I have to ship this back to China. Please be understanding of my "newbie" status.......
I have the same issue with mine! Weird, wonder what the deal is? I hope someone with some knowledge of this can help us because it is an fun tab especially for the price..

I think your main problem is HTCAlbum cache
go to application data-->htc-->htc album and check how much space occupies the cache folder
In some cases it's larger than 10 mb
So, if it is the problem, you can cancel the cache and then try this tip
Another possible problem could be the cache (or temp files) of other programs, such as opera, internet explorer, google maps and so on
One advice for saving more space in the internal memory:
if you don't use copilot and navipanel, you can remove the copilot folder from the folder "program files": it occupies almost 14 mb
regards
Ok i will try but it seems as the internal memry goes full everytim i insall stuff even i i pick memory card, i will soon reset it and do it over again and check + do the things you advice me to.
just questions about it

maybe a little bit...but I don't notice this problem with the mod I adviced you.
...and for your problem...
Before you think to Hard-reset your device, You have to know that when you install a program, even if you install to the microsd, a piece of the install information goes on the internal memory anyway (and occupies some memory space, obviously)

ok, here is what to do;
1. install total commander to phone memory (not sd card)
2. eject sd card
3. on total commander file>find files then find files greater than the default 64k or or 1mb if you want the search to be quicker
4. click on 'size' to sort files into descending order
5. delete or copy any unwanted files
in my case i had some videos that were already on my pc, so i deleted them.

I have never been able to understand why people won't use internal storage!
I have 27 apps installed and this leaves me with 127Mb free which would allow a further minimum of 20 more that I could install assuming an average size.
Why would I want to install to mem card?
It's slower, causes difficulties of all sorts and the internal mem was designed to be used for your apps in the first place.
Although I understand what you are saying pa49 I personally install on my sd card so that
A) I can move from one to another phone if needed or
B) If I have to hard reset then I dont have to load the apps up again when I restore a backup
C) makes backing up and restoring the phone faster and smaller
D) I make a backup of my sd card so that if somthing goes wrong its all there.
I think its a personal preference. I dont fine that my phone is slower or faster one way or the other.

Yes, I know all these arguments.
But we don't (as a rule) use our PCs this way.
It would not be good practise to install all your PC apps on an external hard drive.
If you applied your four points you'd end up with a mess and I don't see our phones as any different.
We expect our phones to function robustly and then we go out of our way to destabalise the whole thing.
I just don't get it.
This thread
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Google Mobile/thread?tid=1163588d699c01d4&hl=en
is just one example of what can happen and the problems were solved by installing on the phone mem!
"Sounds like for at least some folks, installing on phone memory successfully works around this. If you'd prefer to not use phone memory, I'd also try borrowing or buying another memory card as it is potentially due to a portion of your old memory card being corrupted." Quote from Google employee.
What should be most allarming, to those who install to mem card, is the statement, "it is potentially due to a portion of your old memory card being corrupted".
This is the very reason why I always install to phone mem, reinstall all apps after a ROM flash or hard reset and limit my mem cards to only storage of data.
It's not a personal preference.
It just makes sense.
I've had my HD2 for about a week now. I've installed maybe 3 or 4 apps directly to the device (not to SD Card). I'm now in the situation of not being able to d/l any videos etc. due to having insufficient memory! I can't believe it!!!
Device total storage stands at 200.40MB
Used storage= 189.02MB
Free storage= 11.38MB
However below this info my phone is showing ''Free program storage'' as being 178.38MB. While my SD card is showing Free Memory being at 1453.95MB.
Would the solution be to transfer everything to SD card and only install to the SD card in future?
Yep I would, saves the phones internal memory
I install any non-system apps to the card, anything that needs access to the system files goes on my phone

Thank you. That's really helpful.
These reports of low memory are really starting to bug me.
It would appear that there is something going on that is not fully understand because there is no way that you should run out of phone storage memory with only 4 apps installed!
A serious in depth investigation is needed to unearth the cause.
I have 27 apps installed and I have 152Mb of storage memory left.
Could you tell us what ROM you are running?
Did you go to the task manager and see what is running and try ending the tasks? If you don't kill programs in there they will eat up your system memory... Specially if you are downloading a bunch of porn... Opera is probably using up a bunch.

Thats not the memory the OP was talking about. Unless I've got it all wrong! Or you have!
I think you are referring to Program memory. The OP was talking about Storage memory and how something was using it up.
This is all very strange.
Things you should definitely look at
1. Where are your camera pictures and camcorder videos stored? ---> if you select device and not storage on the camera app or camcorder app settings, then u are my friend putting pictures and videos you've taken to the sdcard...
solutions: go to ur camera app settings and look at where u are storing the pictures...
or go to ur file explorer, go to ur device's memory and check if they are there...
if they are there, then copy and paste them to ur sd card...
2. set ur outlook, yahoo e-mail and stuff to be stored in sd card, not device's memory...
3. idk what else you have in there to have that very little memory left...
Oh I missed that... My phone has 686.12 Total Storage, 190.64 used, 495.48 free. I have installed all of the apps on the Storage card though. If his says that the total storage is 200 or whatever, that sounds like the problem... Should be like a gb of total device memory between storage and programs...
It seems that Opera 9 saves downloads to a folder on the phones 'device memory', but it doesn't always delete them when you tell opera to do so in the downloads menu tab.
It saves them too: \My Device\Windows\opera9\profile\download
When I deleated most of the files there it released over 110 MB of space in the device storage.
I wonder where other programs save similar files?
Sam.
Have a look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638 for tips on freeing some space. The HTC Album cache is my biggest storage hog. Even then, like you, I have just a few programs installed to my internal store and hardly any memory left. The UK version has less storage than the USA HD2 which makes matters worse.
maybe for the euro hd2, cleartemp could help. It can help find those caches and delete them regularly.
I have the tmous version and flash all the time so I don't have that problem.
Also look for the youtube cache. I've heard it can get pretty big if you look at a lot of youtube vids.
edit: go find cleartemp. There are loads of stuff it can clear for you.
I found 10mb under thumbs.db alone.
Not to mention a few mb for google maps and for opera cache each.
you can also add custom folders to be cleaned as well. I haven't looked too much into it, but maybe I should.
Just remember that caches help your phone run faster, so don't erase them unless you need the memory.
This thread has good suggestions. But most are usual recommendations that will help but perhaps not resolve the issue completely (well a couple of posts do mention temp issues). I had a similar experience recently.
A couple of facts:
1. I install all my apps into the main memory. Never had issues. Opera, IE cache, temps all there by default.
2. I download and save on SD. Music, films, pictures, documents, Android are all there.
3. Still I have plenty of room for storage.
And then I suddenly had that warning!
The cause was temp made by the default ZIP utility that used up almost all my storage space. That utility works fine until I wanted to uncompress 160 mb zip from SD into another SD folder. It started uncompressing, used all storage temp space, gave me error, and closed. It didn't clean the temp though!
I cleaned a bit manually and then installed SK tools that cleaned my device properly and everything is fine now. It is very simple issue and similar to running out of disk space on a PC.
Bottom line: it is unlikely that usual apps use so much storage. I bet on downloads and big user files left in storage and finally huge temp files as leftovers of unsuccessful uncompressing for example.
hey guys never posted here before..i did some searches and didnt see anything i could use so i fig id ask. memory storage one my verizon imagio is so low i couldnt even open youtube. i deleted a bunch of pics... walpapers and other stuff that seemed to fix it for a while. i was seeing 25kb of rom i loaded a new slider lock and now im at about 12kb...so i deleted more, still at 12kb. i need to know where this storage is...and how it goes overnite so fast...suks..thanks guys. not good with this stuff so go easy..thanks
1. Backup any and all files you wish to keep.
2. Get the HSPL unlocker and unlock your phone. Can be found at ppcgeeks.com.
3. While your on ppcgeeks download one or two of the custom ROMs
Look for a ROM that has left out the VZW bloat. that will free up memory and resources.

Are you sure it is storage memory that is running low? There are two memory "bins" on these phones. Storage memory is where you store files, etc. Program memory is where programs you install reside - this is where programs "live" while running.
Are you running a stock Imagio - no modifications, just like it came from the factory? If so, there are several memory "leaks" (programs that use memory and then do not release it when exited) and much bloatware (programs that almost nobody use, but still consume memory) on the phone.
I have to agree with the previous post - load a new ROM. I use the Energy ROM, but try out a few to see what you like.
