Hi all
I have been using CyanogenMod roms for a while now and everything has worked great. Yesterday I loaded an eclair 2.0 rom I found somewhere, did`nt work well at all, so went back to CyanogenMod rom however after loading the rom when it boots up for the first time it no longer goes through setup or askes for my google username and password, there is no market application showing or google mail. I have tried several of CyanogenMod roms, same on all of them I am wiping before loading new roms. Its not the roms as they have all worked well before. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Have you redownloaded signed_dream_devphone_userbug-ota-14721.zip ? I would flash that then DONT reboot then flash cyanogen's mod and then reboot. Here is the wiki you can look at its very informative http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_G1/Dream_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod .
thanks for the reply, can`t seem to find a download for signed_dream_devphone_userbug-ota-14721.zip, can u point me in the right direction.
Thanks
Read the wiki, it's right there, or use google.
Maybe I am just bieng a little silly here but the links don`t seem to be working on the htc site, is there anywhere else they are available.
Thanks

Linking to HTC was part of Cyanogen's intention because you have to accept HTC's license agreement to use the software, making it the legal workaround that CyanogenMOD is
I did go to HTC site also and the only working downloads right now are the fastboot downloads. Could this be a bad thing another hurdle to cross in Cyanogen's development. A fluke, or maybe we'll be seeing a 2.0 ADP image???? I'm on pins & needles!
Found a work around to get the downloads needed,PM me if you need it.
Thanks
Andy
I'm having the same issue here. I tried to use the market and gmail app and neither are working for me. I'm quite sure that I installed each of the files in the right order, as I was following the exact instructions. But it's still not working right. I was on JF 1.5 and went to the newest CyanoMod update since JF is no longer updating his custom rom. Would it be best to go back to an earlier CM rom? Or is there a fix in the works?
by the way, I'm using
HTC_ADP_1.6_DRC83_rooted_base.zip
and
update-cm-4.2.5-signed.zip
(bumping to see if anyone might actually have a solution)
I have pretty much the same problem...
a few days ago my phone started spazzing after installing Cyanogen's 4.2.11 and there was nothing i could do except formatting my sd card and a factory reset... eventually, i got my phone back to work, but it only came with all of the default apps except for the Android Market.
So then i tried to install the HTC recovery image along with cyanogen 4.2.11.1 to see if that would fix my problem, but my market app is STILL missing. I really need my market app back -____- even though cyanogen's rom comes with slideme mobentoo marketplace, the app force closes whenever i try to open it.
can anyone help?

Well I am 99.99999999999% sure I figured out what I did wrong. Somehow I managed to accidentally download Cyan's 4.0.2. I wouldn't have noticed it except I was double checking my radio. Lord I feel like a moron
I got my new phone in the mail today since my old G1 had a keyboard issue. I am able to root and load Cyan's 4.0.4 without a single hitch.
However, regardless if I wipe beforehand, afterward, both, or not at all, when I load Ted's Hero styled theme, I go through the wait of the G1 screen, then his animation... and then? BLACK... the screen is on... it's just displaying an endless world of black. (Sort of reminds me of staring at my ex's soul).
I have tried the above as well as the repair command (running Cyan's 1.4 recovery). I am running the latest radio etc etc etc.
WTH is going on here? I have tried searching for black screen etc and come up with 1,000 or so threads that have no relevance to my issue. So can someone please point me in the right direction? Thanks so much!

Maybe a bad download? Does Ted post the MD5 of his files? If not any you have tried reflashing rom and theme then you have a odd problem. Double check and make sure you have the right rom build # and theme for that build # (since his roms change soo often). Other then that I'm not sure. You don't need to wipe though, you just flash the rom and let it load up for initial setup then reboot into recovery and flash the theme. Only wiping would be BEFORE you flash the ROM.
PS
Now running the EngBootloader V2 (thought maybe THAT was it).
Edit again... now running hard-spl. Still no dice. What the heck am I missing here?
Hey its all good we make mistakes. Glad I could help.
Yeah thanks man
Not sure how I did it. I just looked at the thread again and there isn't even a link to what I had. It goes from a download link to 3.6.8.1 to 4.0.4.
NO IDEA lol
anyone that knows a easy way to put google apps on the new cyanogenmod update please help
mytouch 3g white
android 1.6 rooted
There are 3 ways that I know of
1) Flash a theme onto your rom and hope that the theme includes the google apps.
2) Follow this link and read this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=565155
And the third one, I can't find the link to it, but there's a guy on the Dream development forums that puts the google apps on the latest cyan for you to flash.
true well find the link lol i cant even get myfaves back on cm 4.0.4 i downgreaded till i find the way to do it. ive done the myfaves mount many of times b4 but now it wont effing work. any ideas why?
Okay well I found the link, but it seems the person that posted the rom with the apps has pulled it, your gonna have to use one of the first 2 methods i showed you.
Just curious, but what Google Apps are missing after Cyanogen 4.2.3.1? I've flashed my MT3G so many times over the last couple of months that I can't tell what's missing. I'm running Cyanogen now.
all the google apps are missing form the new cm update. google sent cm a c&d so he cant use google apps anymore
I can only recall 2 but they may be the only ones and they are Google maps and android market. Kush i recommend you follow that link and just do what the guide says to do and it'll work, i did that and it worked just fine.

I'm not trying to hijack this thread, but whenever I install CM I have both Android Market and Google Maps. I completely wipe and re-format my SD card when applying any ROM. Does the HTC Rooted Base .zip file contain Market and Maps because I promise those two apps are there after applying CM 4.2.3.1?

If you follow the full directions for flashing Cyanogen 4.2.3.1, you'll have all of the Google apps (the full Google Experience, even). I can attest to this, having done this exact install myself last week (from stock Donut, fresh out of box, 2 hours after the nice lady at the T-Mobile store handed it to me).
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_MT3G/Magic_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod
That guide also includes rooting your phone from stock donut 1.6, which you probably don't need as you've stated that you've flashed cyanogen's mod at least once. But note that it's a multi-step process the first time after version 4.1.99 (or so): do a full wipe, install the rooted 1.6 base, then WITHOUT REBOOTING, install cyanogenmod 4.2.3.1. Then you can reboot, and you should be golden.

Like it says on that wiki page, in the section labeled "File Download", "Due to recent events, CyanogenMod can no longer distribute Google specific apps with his ROMS. The way around this is to download and install the legal Google apps and then install CyanogenMod on top of those apps. The good news is that it works, the bad news is that it requires an extra step or two in the install process. Most people will need only two files."
Then in step 1, there's a link to a (mostly) stock 1.6 ROM image, the file "HTC_ADP_1.6_DRC83_rooted_base.zip". It contains a stock 1.6 installation, including the Google apps. This is the file that you want when the instructions say "download and install the legal Google apps". If you follow ALL of the instructions, exactly as they're written, you'll get what you want...

Sweet deal now that I Know that it HAS to be
That zip of 1.6
Hello.
I have followed EXACTLY the instructions given in the link (and in the wiki).
I totally have the apps. But the problem is that if I try to download an application from android Market it is blocked.
For example :
If I try to donwload facebook for android, I go on the android Market, search facebook, click on install.
And then there is a waiting bar on top telling me : download is about to begin.
But it never begins...
Anybody has this problem ?
Is it because I didn't format my SD card ?...

I am getting this goofy "Download Unsuccessful" message in my notifications tray every hour or so. I know I am not intentionally downloading anything. It drives me nuts though. Has anyone else seen this or figured out how to make it stop if you have?
Phone is rooted and I am running MoDaCo 1.1
Thank in advanced.
On a personal note, everytime I come to ask a question I get carried away on other posts and always forget to post my own questions! LOL!
I would guess it's one of two things-
There is an app in the market that is trying to download but is failing.
or
It's trying to push the 1.56 update to you but it's failing (or did you apply it already?)
Flipz, I need you in the office next to mine so I can constantly ask questions.
Well, I am running MoDaCo 1.1, which I don't think has the update packaged with it, but! I checked for Firmware updates and nothing is available.
Now as far as something downloading from the market, would it continue to retry or something if it failed?? Seems like everything I have wanted to download has worked and is installed.
Would there be a way to "Clear the queue?" if there was something that keeps trying???
you can go to marketplace/my downloads. if anything is pending it should let you know there.
otherwise i would guess its in the browser. browser/menu/more/downloads
this happened to me yesterday... well not exactly this but i started downloading an app from the market then did a nandroid restore real quick and as soon as it booted everything was messed up after that.

Market place has everything listed as installed or update available.
Browser download history is empty.
Just remembered I had Dolphin Browser installed, there was a download from 11/26 in there that had failed. I think I tried to download an exe without Crutch. We'll see if it was continuing to try and get this file.
Well guys, again thanks for the help. It seems that Dolphon Browser had a failed download being held hostage. Manually going in and clearing it out looks like it has been stoped. Wonder why it doesn't do this on its own after it warns you of its failure. Maybe I'll try and figure out who writes Dolphin and ask them.
First off, ive been searching and trying different roms for hours to no prevail. I will begin with what ive accomplished and attempted. BTW, im a complete noob to rooting.
I followed the 1.5 to 2.1 sticky "[Walkthrough] From stock (1.5) to rooted 2.1 (update - new link)". I successfully completed part 1 and part 2 but fail on part 4. I did not attempt the recovery install and regret it now.
So I was able to get the full install of PB00IMG.zip to work flawlessly. I don't believe it was actually necessary to install a special rom at this point but when i started i figured they were step by step instructions. Then i got the usb driver installed and my pc recognized my phone as the htc dream which i figure is normal. After that I attempted to install the ivan 1.0 rom and got exactly this:
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command
--Install from sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
I figure the only relevant part is the signature failure. I realize that all the zips are signed and therefore cannot be opened. I understand that they have to be renamed to "update.zip". No im not naming it "update.zip.zip". I am renaming it with windows xp. I saw somewhere that a guy had the same issue and renamed it with astro and it worked out fine so Im hoping this is the issue but that seem silly. Ive verified the md5 sums of the rom images as well.
Ive also tried the Eris_Official that is on the sticky and plane jane 1.0.
Ive seen some debate on whether or not the 2.1 ota eris's can be rooted but it seems quite apparent its the same as any other eris. my hboot is 1.46 and not 1.49 so all is well there.
I also applied wipe data/factory reset
At this point i am at a loss as to what to do because it seems as though ive tried everything. I will reinstall PB00IMG.zip (hopefully) but im not sure what that rom actually does, i have no idea at all. From what i saw upon booting it seems like a simple stock 2.1 rom that is rooted. I'd prefer not to use that but as long as i can install the overclock kernel then i dont mind too much. I prefer the ivan rom. I prefer to switch between roms at will like the experienced rooters on here.
i did not wipe cache partition because im not sure what that does and it was never mentioned.
From deductive reasoning, it HAS to be an issue with the signature verification and is probably a simple fix.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully i have mentioned everything that has transpired.
You can't flash a rom without first flashing the recovery img, go back to step 4 and flash amon ra's recovery image.
i realized that and was in the process when you posted. thanks tho. I guess i got impatient and figured recovery meant like a back up if i screwed up. thats what happens when ya dont follow directions! i have like 3 roms saved and im dl'ing the ivan and will give it a shot. everything else is completed tho. just waiting on teh download. i think i lost a good amount of contacts tho because i didnt back them up. i have no clue how to get them back beyond trying to sync with google. does our google account save all contacts automatically?

it does if you have syncing enabled, when you log in with your email on the new rom, it will restore your contacts back from google. also the first time you open your market, if you hit menu and go to downloads, it remembers what you had previously downloaded.
ivans is nice as an like stock rom, but i think it is out dated, there was a newer one jcase's plain jane rom, or basically anything on the front page. tho i perfer cyanogen elb, or zenexp. eh try a few different ones
its weird because i never turned off sync my google email. the only sync options i had were google, facebook, and flickr (that applied to me). Most of my contacts are saved but not all.
I also did the market thing immediately but apps like handscent weren't in there which is odd to me.
My big thing about switching between roms is saving all the settings from the previous one. I presume there is a root app for that but i havent even begun to dive into it. I just wanted to overclock this thing because its pissing me off with how slow it is. Also, it being more slim as far as cluttered bs apps helps too.
btw, i got it fully up and running, just installing apps and adding contacts. I would say that contacts over a few months old or less are the only ones missing.

so why would you leave that to chance. . . im sure you noticed all the disclaimers, i understand its at your own risk but still. The recovery has saved my 4$$ several times now. . . trust me especially if your a new it isn't worth the risk. (unless your ballin but no offense to anyone if we were we'd all have incredibles or at least moto droids by now). . and don't use rom manager until its been tested on our device thoroughly . . . which means never use rom manager on an HTC Eris. lolz
You can use something like titanium to backup your apps and settings
Sent from my Eris using Tapatalk
Illogical when did you get your Eris? I ask this because I'm getting a replacement Eris next week an I'm just wondering if I have to prepare my self for the new 2.1 with the 1.49 h boot or if there a possibility that I would get something easier to root.
When I found out that 2.2 wasnt coming out from this phone I decided that I would root the phone and load a 2.2 ROM, etc. etc. So I started researching all of these about 2 days ago... and for the past 2 days I have read so much information on this that I am now currently so mixed up and lost. There are soooo many different ROMs, different ways to do this, that, etc. I see some people do one thing that it works great, another person do the exact same thing and they havent the same luck.
Even when getting ready to just root the phone, I found an awesome post that had great information... but, then when I looked at it the post was from 7 months ago and in the N1 forums. So, I started to 2nd guess.
I suppose basically what Im in need of is possibly a normal/basic recommendation to get moving on this... Would a possible recommendation be to root the phone with the 1 click root being run through a file manager, then create a nandroid backup, then go with something popular like Cyanogen6 RC1? Its just that mod -seems- to be what a good bit of people have, and problems seem limited on it. But then again, ive read about 10 other ROMs that appear to be just as good, and people like just as well... so agian, this choice leaves me frozen as well.
Im just so overwhelmed with information ive just about frozen up... I think it need to bring it back to a basic simple plan to get moving on this. Everything I read in these forums sounds so awesome and just plain ole fun.... but like I said im currently frozen/lost. Please help if my request isnt too much...
Thanks! Any help with this will definitely melt this horrid ice!!!
Use this to root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=753910
Just do as it says and follow directions. I rooted both of my brother's phones this way. It works.
Then do as you were thinking: nandroid then install CM6 RC1. It will probably be your best bet for a solid 2.2 experience.
here's what I posted on my carriers facebook page. I kept things simple and to the point, and the point was to install 2.2 on a hero.
1. go to settings, applications and check allow installation from unknown sources.
2. install bar code scanner from the market if you don't have it.
3. scan the qr code from here: http://bit.ly/d1f0RN
4. download and install the app
5. open universal androot and click root
6. go to the market and download rom manager
7. open rom manager and click flash clockwork mod recovery
8. click backup current rom (you can always restore your backup later to go back to exactly how your phone was)
to load the rom after rooting:
1. download both the rom and google apps from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=755795
2. copy the zip files to your sd card
3. open rom manager and click install rom from sd card
4. choose the rom file you copied to the sd card and click add zip, then choose the google apps file you downloaded earlier. Click ok and choose backup current rom and wipe data.
5. Enjoy android 2.2 on your Hero!!
(be careful restoring stuff using mybackup, open source roms and htc roms don't store data the same way. applications are safe to restore but system settings can potentially break things requiring you to wipe and reload again)
Not because it is my root method, but I would actually recommend using my root method and following all of the steps. It has you flash a custom recovery and patched boot.img so you keep full root via adb.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
CM6 is the ONLY 2.2 ROM for the Hero at this point. But know that it doesn't have much of the Sprint/CDMA or HTC SenseUI functionality and stuff that you're used to from your current phone....like updating Profile and PRL; Sprint Navigation/Football/Nascar/etc.; your Contacts, Dialer, Messaging, and some other menus will be a little different....that's just a few things off the top of my head.
So if you kinda LIKE the way your phone is now (except maybe for some lag/slowness), CM6 won't be a very similar ROM. But you won't know unless you try it out Just offering some helpful info. Good luck -- we're here to help.
I have not found a 2.2 FroYo that I like for the Hero, it's rooted and running Fresh 2.3.3
http://geekfor.me/new-release/fresh-hero-233/
Awesome... the community here is absolutely incredible. Although I am literally tryin my best to read the ****in manual, I continue to fear that im reading something too old or outdated, or that there is something newer (easier) that I should be doing instead. I did the rooting with the 1click which was so simple... I cant believe I even spent that much time on it.
Thinking next the nandroid/recovery image thing would be a breeze, but it appears to almost be the hardest step. I see on most posts that they always tend to mention Nandroid for backups - is there a particular reason that I should use that one? Some other ones appear to be easier, but not as interesting or fun. However, im fearfully coming across a lack of exact guides that explain the process.
I truly think that once I can get the recovery image done, and I can start trying out other ROMs and such... this will become too much fun. But again, im getting so mixed up by should i do this, that, or maybe this... or wait, is that too old of information?
Regardless, thanks for all the help!
Download ROM Manager from the Market. From ROM Manager you can flash ClockworkMod recovery or Flash Alternate Recovery (I prefer this option RA Recovery) there is a newer relase but this works fine.
You can then reboot and go into recovery, back up your system as it is right now, that way you can always go back to the basic root version that you have right now. That my friend is a Nandriod back up. now you can install a ROM of your choice, once it is installed and functioning the way you like make a Nandriod back up of it, that way you always have a good platform to start from if anything isn't playing nice.

I know exactly what you mean. I've rooted my Hero the day the universal 1 click came out,but as yet have been reading everything I can on which new Rom to install first.
I went out and bought a new 16 gig sd card for more storage as well. I've been trying to read up on how and what is the best way to do all of the various partitions on it cause some say to just have a ext 2 partition, and others say have a ext3/4 partitions on it.Unfortunately I haven't found a easy way to make this happen except by using the FroydVillain 1.4.3 rom and I don't know if it will work with a cdma Sprint Hero or not yet.
I love the phone, and want to upgrade it to the best stable over clocked rom that will allow me to use it for everyday usage, but it doesn't look like it is going to easy as rooting the damn thing was. Seems to me that you need to be a programmer in Linux to make it work the best
I hate posting a bunch of neewb questions about it but I guess I will

Awesome! Okay perfect... it worked perfect! I know have CyanogenMod running - yeah, it def different. Seems like it will take some time to get used too. Esp since its so far from SenseUI off the bat... err well, just the way that it handles things and such.
I will definitely give it a fair shot before I even try out some other ones... but I def want to try to use one of those Fresh Roms as well.
Thanks a ton for all the help! Most appreciated!
