Issue in AT&T HTC Pure (a.k.a. TD2) - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

Hi guys. The last week i bought a HTC Pure from AT&T. The phone is awesome and works very well. But i found a little issue: When I connect the phone to the Wi-Fi connection and when i want to update my mail account, the phone entablish the 3G connection and update the email account. If the Wi-Fi is ready, why uses the 3G?? is just my phone or any other have the same trouble?
Thanks.

What Email Provider are you checking?
Mine does that to but only when it checks my Hotmail Account.

Yes it happens only with my hotmail account. Do you know if there is a way to change this? I install SBS Phone Weaver and I have a task to open the Wi-Fi connection to update the hotmail account. Maybe with a regedit tweak? Thanks.

Not sure of a fix for that.

I think there is no "Pure" in this phone . Maybe a firmware upgrade can fix this issues.

BUMP for a little help

Try using one of the Proxy tweaks. By default AT&T tries to force all data through it's 3G socket so they can charge you.
You may also be able to completely disable 3G services via apps like Advanced Config, etc (if that's what your trying to accomplish). I have unlimited data, so I don't care. My cellular Radio is already on so why not use it for data updates vs requiring turning the WiFi radio on also?

Thanks player, i will try those proxy tweaks. Off topic: Do you know where can i found the original HTC Pure ROM?

Since new ROM, no internet connection with Activesync

GPRS works fine, Wireless at home works, but it seems when I try to access the internet when plugged in, it just wants to connect GPRS, if I cancel that, I still get no internet. Is there something I'm missing?
Thanks,
Marc
yeah, I can't get active sync or WiFi to work since the new ROM on my MDA. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
hey trublu....did you change the GPRS setting?
I did not change the GPRS settings, I have triple checked them and they are correct. I tried creating another and still nothing. I do notice there is no proxy setup listed for the internet setup like there was originally. As I mentioned internet and wireless both work properly.
Which ROM are you guys talking about?

HTC Weather using Wifi ???

Hi,
I did search the whole forum for answers but in vain. Whenever I access weather tab and update the info, it updates using 3G/HSDPA.
But, what I want is to update using wifi at home. Is there an option to make it use wifi instead of 3G/HSDPA?
Pls lemme know coz it wud help me save a few penny
TIA
SK
Well I did the following.
1) As I don't want any applications (in background or by request) to update via any Phone Network I deleted the internet setting.
Now I can connect via USB or Wifi and then download, both work.
If I do it when I am not connected then I get an error message (as I have no internet connection setup).
So this works for me but also means I have to remake a internet connection if and when I want to download of phone network.
I have no flat rate data plan so its my only choice, maybe others have a better idea.
really strange, mine uses wifi and if there is no wifi, it relies on gprs.

Which is correct as far as I can see.
The issue here seems to be he does not want to download via gprs and I have yet to find an option that allows you to turn it off.
The choices are Download automatically
Download weather when roaming
What is missing is that stops you downloading via GPRS but allows you to download via WIFI and when connected.

Thanks 2 all for ur reply
Actually the problem is:
I have router at home and my touch hd connects to wifi to update mails, etc.. But when I switch to weather and update, it somehow doesnt identify the wifi connection. Instead uses 3G for updating...is it happening only in my mobile?
And I guess nodata might just work...lemme chk that out ....Thanks a ton
Mine too used to use what it wanted, hspda as first choice. So i deleted the 3g configuration. From what i have read, it is a WM problem: no way to set 3G as secondary choice

start->settings->connections->connections
here you see (don't know how exactely in english, since i have italian)
internet (???)
work
under internet, "modify"
enter there, and delete your 3G account.
Now back in connections, go advanced->select (net???) [the first button over composition rules]
Here select "work" for everything.
Now, without 3G, the phone connects to internet only if you have an active wifi, otherways doesn't connect.
Wouldnt it just be easier to use the HD tweak utility to disable internet access via 3G/GPRS/HSDPA? - just a thought guys, instead of deleting settings which may be required at a later time (i.e. when no WIFI is available)
My weather updates fine via WIFI,
My emails (using a hotmail account) keep trying to update via 3G though - I can't get it to do it via WIFI unless I use Windows Live to login then update emails
Would, but as you see there are problems (and i suspect hd tweak kills also mms's, since excludes all data connections). Instead, deleting the account, is easier. I can always reinstall it with the connection wizard.
try this: disable or delete your gprs connection, enable wifi and try to download weather data. if successful, then re-enable your gprs connection and see if it still prefers to use gprs or wifi at first place.
Use modaco NoData to make sure the 3g connection is never used.
Done
Thanx a ton for ur help...I used Nodata and my work was done...sweet and simple...
Thanx
I have a similar problem, just wanted to open a topic about it
Unfortunate, weather is not updating any more, no Wifi, no 3G.
I do not mind it using 3G, but it's not updatingf, nothing works.
I am not even sure how to delete the default 3g connections.
i will try .. i hope i will not have to hard reset the phone again
Ummm... u bought £500 phone and yet can't afford a 50kb 3G/GPRS bandwidth per month?!
Quite intriguing
@zoomee
To make email use WIFI and 3G as a fallback, in email account settings change connection to "The Internet" (it's probably set to your 3G Access point e.g. "T-mobile internet")
Maybe your settings are wrong. Does QuickGPS work? If it doesn't, then check your settings. With some access points of some operators, you can only browse internet pages but not use other apps requiring internet access.
@sriramkrishnan06: no problem
I am affording a 3g Connection and Bandwidth (if that was pointed at me).
I can not get any more weather data (
I deleted as explained here some of the previous set connections to my 3g provider and also rebuild one, and still nothind
throguth Wifi it seems not to work, but through 3g, not any more
it was working before, i had to hard reset it and now it does not work any more
I think it was pointed to sriramkrishnan06.
Anyway, have you checked whether QuickGPS works or not?
The Quick GPRS works form me, Weather still does not work
I am little upset since i know i am missing something small. I am not THE thech savvy guy, but i know my whay arroud computers, (i am a web developer) still, somehow i am not able to make the damn weather work, even tried one of the "hacks" witht e weather database editoer, to load the default server, it is still not working for me.
If anyone has an idea .. please ..
If Quick GPS works then I have no idea. Are you sure you didn't mess up anything using that tool?
In any case, hard resets almost always work. If you don't want to, you could do a full backup with Resco Backup or similar, hard reset, test the weather, then restore the backup.

NO update from Wi-Fi ?!?! (Meteo - Stock Actions)

Hi guys,
in the building where I work, the signal doesn't reach inside, but I do have the possibility to connect the HD2 to the internet using Wi-Fi.
I can go on any web page using any browser, but my HD2 won't never update the Meteo or the Stock Action screen unless I get a 3G connection, which by way costs me heaps of money.
I would like to know if there is any way to sincronyze the Data Services also with the Wi-Fi connection.
Thanks,
Alberto.

Alberto,
I can reproduce the problem. With the phone off and Wi-Fi enabled, no update is received for stock and weather.

My HD2 updates only using the phone line (instead of the free Wi-Fi), and as in my work place my operator doesn't reach directly, I wasted a day worth of salary in less than a week!
Any help on HOW TO FORCE the HD2 to USE FIRST Wi-Fi connection, or ONLY Wi-Fi connection to update will be really appreciated!
Been looking and still couldn't find any clue.
Same problem here and by the way, try turning off the phone connection and downloading an email attachment using wifi only, download speeds are REALLY slow - I suspect it is still using the cellular connection even though the phone says it is off
i'm not sure if this is the same problem as you, but my phone always updated using data connection instead of wi-fi, you had to turn off the automatic updates for weather, email etc. But sometimes it wont update my weather using wi-fi it just says unable?
..got the same problem, cant update the weather with the wifi only..i disabled the automatically update and then turned on the wifi but still nothing..
No problems here updating weather or stocks by wifi...
Hi, can you hare your setting with us?
I still have been trying quite a lot different solution today but still no results.

What settings do you need?
Your meteo update settings for ie., and also your operator name and connection settings
Hey..i found an alternative way to update the weather in my city through wifi and it finally works!
Go to weather app and just add your city as a new location..after that go to your home screen and tap on the world clock where you 'll see: ''my location'' and your city recently added..just tap it to your city and thats it.
That works for me.
Thanks!
Let me try this and I'll tell you if it works also for me.
Hi there.
You should check on the "Configure Wireless Network" page if the combo " Connects to:" is set to "The internet" instead of some other network

setting connection preference ???

is there a way to make sure the phone only connects to my home wi fi hub when at home and does not connect via my 3g vodafone connection. I want it to automatically select the fastest link and not waste my 3g allowance ? I've searched but cannot find a solution, thanks
+1 good idea, anyone got anything on this?
Andi,
The solution I would use would be to go to Settings>Wireless Controls and simply switch Data Connections off, Wifi On when at home.
You would have to remember to to reverse this when done if you want to access 3G services.
WB
u could use G-Profile.. It allows you to set up different profiles and switch them automatically based on your current cell id. Wifi on/3G off when at home, other way around when not. Works like a charm for me
thanks for the tip but when I do that it then automatically turns it back on even when I'm connected to the wireless hub, all of a sudden they both are on . . . . . . .?? any ideas ??
i have the same problem... it keeps using my 3G/EDGE network even if WIFI is available... and i dont get it how can HTC afford not to give us an option to set that the phone asks you for permission when connecting to 3G/EDGE network... this **** costs and im not really happy about the fact that my phone can connect to a network whenever it feels like.
(and yes this **** keeps happening even tho i disabled automatic updates in weather/time applications.)
In BSB tweaks if you press options I think there is an option to disable all data connections. I have never tried it but maybe it will override all connection attempt? Give it a try. Also, I flashed to the 2.01 ROM and I think the data connections are a little less persistent, though I don't wan't to guarantee anything!

does it not do that by default? i cant send emails through t-email when i'm at home - I just presumed this was because i was connected through my wireless router. turning off wifi allows me to send emails.
thus I presumed wifi takes preference?
I am wondering the same thing. The idealist situation would be to have both connections active at the same time, and let the HD2 make sure that wifi is used when the connection is there. Is there some kind of application to verify which connection is being used?
Great thread - I am not the only HD2 owner who is annoyed with the problem with the HD2 switching on its GRPS data connection without my approval!!!
Could it be that the HD2 turns off the wifi when it goes to sleep and then tries to connect to the web using the GPRS network? In that case how do I prevent turning off WIFI when in sleepmode?
I read somewhere else in this forum about a G-profile. Being a newbie with HTC I have no idea what this is. Any clue?
But overall: Yes, it would be great if HTC added an option to set network connection preferences.
WiFi does take preference if it's connected! Dont forget when you are at home and you turn your phone on from standby it will take 10sec or so to connect to your WiFi router, if you try and use IE, Opera, Twitter, Weather Update, Email, etc... before it's connected it will fire up your 3G data connection!
The phone does not how ever turn off your data conn when it's idle which is annoying! You need to use Bandswitch or CommManager from here http://www.commmgrpro.com/jsp/main_frame.jsf;jsessionid=103F335931311F019BD540B82E479383 or WMLonglife from this forum (do a search).
there must be someone out there with ghe know how and expertise to solve this ?? glad to see its an issue for othet folk, i like the idea for selecting wi fi over gprs if its there to be selected.......
I found out that my HD2 automatically closes the 3G connection when I have wifi active. I'm not sure why it does that, I know pretty sure that it had not always done that. But I'm quite happy with it
It turns 3G on again after disconnecting from WIFI, which is what I want.
so if you tap the notifications tab and the "contratc internet" is counting and the wi fii is connected it is using the wifi and not the "contract internet" even though the timer is counting ???
Can anyone confirm ???
p.s tried using the G-Profile software, it seems very inconsistant and didnt always turn off what it should when you select the profile so im going to unistall it.
for some reason the automatic internet settings from vodafone messes up/hides the "The Internet" or "MyISP" connection that is in the phone originally.. I even hard resetted but you just can't seem to stop the automatic settings..
disable the proxy of the "Vodafone live!" connection and it will work.. just like twitter etc..
the same with email only checking through 3G and not wifi.. but set the server settings of your account to "The Internet" after you disabled the proxy.. (advanced settings at the smpt server tab)
hope this helps.. but a thing worries me, as I don't know anything about proxies, why does vodafone specify a proxy if we don't realy need one.. to port us over their live portal or something? (on my old sony ericsson the track ID service didn't work because of that)
"disable the proxy of the "Vodafone live!" connection and it will work.. just like twitter etc.."
thanks but how do i do this ??
anyone know how i do this ? thanks
After including the Taskmanager as a quick link in HTC Sense I am now able to close all programs. Now I do no longer experience any unfortunate GPRS connections when connected to WIFI.
Only problem is that when running on batteries the WIFI connection is closed down when the unit enters sleepmode. However during sleepmode, if I have not closed down programs accessing the web these are now able to connect to the web by using the GPRS connection.
Why on Earth has HTS decided to decipher a click on the X as MINIMIZE and not CLOSE!!!

Sorry, forgot to mention this - but in order to save battery power I have asked the unit to close down the WIFI when in sleepmode (using BsB Tweaks). And indeed it gives me more battery life.

Updates & Email using WiFi only?

Hey all,
I'm on my 3rd htc device and I should have asked this question ages ago!
With things like weather updates and emails is it possible to have them automatically update and download when I'm using WiFi without it trying to open a gprs connection at all other times?
I would also be interested because coming from a symbian phone I really dont like that the phone does not ask me which access point I want to use and that gprs connection is the primary one to use on win mo phone. Nokia is better for me from this point of view, you have to choose which access point to use and there is no way you surf on the net thinking you are on wifi while in reality you are using gprs.
As a former Symbian user, I must agree. 1 point for Symbian, and inexcusably lame for Windows Mobile. Let's hope that this is something that can be worked out in an update to 6.5.x while we wait....and wait.... and wait for WP7.

No, there's no way to force wifi. If wifi is connected it will use it, but if it hits the time where it's set to autoupdate, and no wifi is available, it will connect to gprs.
but... if you are in a WiFI area, but without data service, you are SOL, because it won't use the WiFi for the status updates, email, etc.
Pretty dumb, really.
use bsb tweak to disable all mobile data connections or use nodata program... then it wont be able to try to connect while its not on wifi... but u wont be able to use data connections either unless u enable them again
Of course it does use wifi if it's connected and no other connection is present... I'm doing that every day!
When I arrive home I turn on wifi, disconnect data if it was connected, and I can do all I want, it will use wifi and not try to connect data.
is there a way to auto-download once wifi or data connection is detected? my carrier charges me bigtime for every connection access and not by the minute oe data use.. so I just want everything to update automatically in 1 access without manually doing so for each..

If disable my data connection, and enable WiFI, and then choose the Weather tab and Update Now... nothing happens. It tries... it fails. Always has on every ROM I've used.
Does it not do this for you, for example?
If I reverse the process.... enable my data connection and disable WiFI.... choose Weather tab, and Update Now.... it works!
Why should such an integral part of the Homescreen UI be utterly and completely dependent on a data connection?
That's something I do not understand.

No, if I do that it works perfectly.
I'd say you have a connectivity problem with your Wifi.. does it work to browse then net in Opera? Wouldn't you use a proxy by any chance?
that's sometimes a problem of synchronization of your wifi router and your device (e.g. dhcp or timeout reconnect of your wifi router)
try this:
switch on router and then wifi on your device.
then start quickgps and try to update.if it fails, then try again quickgps.
if it works on second time then it's because of this synchronization...but update weather should work now by wifi.

Opera and every other connection works. I think it has something to do with my location. It could be that my ISP or my service provider is part of the problem.
Oh one thing I forgot:
In wifi options, advanced, network cards, network cards tab, make sure it's set that your network card connects to the Internet, not Work.
That could be it.
