Ok, so I un-rooted my phone yesterday, and now I'm stuck. Before I go on I haven't paid my bill this month, and T-Mobile disconnected my 3G connection onto I pay my bill, but I'm stuck on my "Google Start-up", and every time I put my email and password in it doesn't connect.
Is there a way to skip this setup so I can use my WiFi connection on the phone?
Thank you.

thats because you unrooted, only the dev builds and custom builds allow you to skip google sign in. you will need to borrow a sim card that has android feature.
sell, if you have a myTouch, than the answer is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=588017
Checked it on my phone, it works.
I do have a myTouch, but I just tried it on MT3G and it doesn't seem to work for me. I'll keep checking though. Thanks for the link.

Please i really need help, i been without a phone for 3 days already =(
If you just proceed with the setup it will notice that you have no phone network so it will then ask on the next screen to provide a wifi spot which is where you can log onto your router.
That wasn't a bricked phone.

My thoughts as well.
You have a couple of options:
1) Use a prepaid tmo sim w/ data, or get an unlock code and use another SIM w/ data a data plan on it (that will require the APN for that carrier)
2) Set up adb and follow this guide, it will let you choose an access point to connect to.

If you've ever installed RC29 you'll know that it wont let you connect to an AP, it will only use cellular data.
Haai guys,
Does anyone know how to start a HTC Magic Vodafone without a sim? I can't find anything on Google.
Thanks,
Turn the phone off. Open the phone and take the SIM card out. Turn the phone on.
With Donut and later you can choose to skip the Google Sign in until later, setup wifi then sign in if you want to. If you already have your phone signed in and setup how you like it, it will just work.
Obviously you will not be able to make phonecalls, set your time or location from network (GPS still works fine) and only access data via wifi.

You can't. You get two option, the change the language and the make an emergency call. Then it jumps to the home screen with a emergency call screen activated. You cannot do anything until you insert a sim!
Well i just got my evo from bb, had to wait for an hour just to get the phone activated, the sprint servers were having a hard time handling the load, says the bb rep and there all sold out.
Now i can’t seem to log into the Google account, i even changed the pass to make things easy, still no luck. Anyone having similar problems

Can you get into your gmail through the browser? If so, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to sign into gmail for contacts syncing. Strange.
Ok you were right the data was not active originally I had to reboot, now it seems to be working but says lost network access I’ll try connecting with wifi

Did you try going to Settings>Wireless & Networks>Mobile Network? Uncheck and recheck that. Of course, I have read all day that the network has been quite overloaded... might have something to do with it, dunno.
Same issue here with a brand new EVO. I could browse the Internet just fine, even synched with my Exchange server.
However, could not sync with my Google account. Will update when I have a solution - I'm on the phone with Sprint now.
Hello everyone,
I recently bought a new Nexus One and so far everything is perfect but one thing.
Every time I lose 3g connection, mostly when I enter the subway, I will get this error message : "sign-in error to xxxxxxx at gmail.com ". Then I need to register my password again in order to login. It will happen even if i am on wifi. It is getting a little bit annoying to write my password 5 times per day to sync my emails and calendar.
PS: I get the same thing on stock 2.2.1 or cyanogenmod 6
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for your time.

That normally happens to me when I change SIM cards. So maybe you have a problem with your Sim card? Try a different one...

It doesn't get back on, when I go in the Account Settings menu, it says my that "my password is incorrect or my account must have been changed".
It forces me to go in airplane mode while I'm in school because otherwise I need to re-enter my password every 10 minutes (poor reception) even though wifi is on. I mean, if the wifi is on there shouldn't be any problem since there is a data connection. How would the mobile connection affect that?
hmm.. school, wifi... you're credentials could be being hijacked. stop using wifi.

My credentials are most definitely fine, and besides, I don't have the luxury to overlook wifi with my overpriced 200 mb 3g plan

Yes, this is normal; I live in a place with spotty coverage as well, and trust me, on a phone with 4 registered Google accounts, re-entering passwords is a big bother!
The problem is that Android assumes that the connection problem is due to incorrect password rather than connectivity problem (because presumably the connection attempt was made before it realized that the connection is lost), and does not let you re-try with the same passwords even after a good connection is reestablished.
Workaround: simply disable Sync from the "control panel" widget when you're not sure you have good coverage.
Happens to me every time I switch up sim cards too. I had to replace one because it kept loosing data connection.. I jumped up and down when I found out it was not my N1!! Happy day!

Thanks for this explanation, I didn't know about this widget, I guess I will use it from now on Knowing that I am not the only one with this problem, I may now hope for a fix in the future.
Can't you just request a new sim from your carrier? just tell them the current one is faulty.

I don't know, my sim card doesn't seem faulty? It looks more like an android problem to me. Anyway if you think it might help I could try to get another one.

I can only speak for ATT on this but the answer is yes. You walk in, tell them you need to replace your sim, and they give you a new one at no cost; this has been my experience for myself and for replacing my better half's sim for her iphone.
It can't hurt to try a new sim...the worst that can happen? Nothing
Hello,
I know this is an old thread, but I found a solution if anyone is interested.
It would appear that I would lose my google account's credentials everytime my phone lost cell signal and tried to look for the "partner" network.
Well it seems I can fix the problem by forcing my phone to stay on "WCDMA only" instead of "WCDMA preferred". Downside is that I wouldn't be able to go on the partner network when I'm outside my main network.
To do that just type *#*#4636#*#* on your phone application and a settings screen will pop up. You can find WCDMA Only in "Phone Options".
I hope it can help someone
I just got my new unlocked HTC My touch 3g phone from J and R store...I put a SIM card from T-mobile from other cell phone in (prepay w/o data plan) and tried to test new device.
I cannot find a way pass first screen where I need to log in my Goggle account...it gives me a message that the SIM card does not have data plan...I thought that I will be able to get in the WI-FI menu to access the internet thru my home wireless connection and log it in that way..but no success.
My original intention was to have a phone with SIM w/o data plan and then use WI-FI for installing Apps, Games etc etc...Is that possible?...
I know that the answer is somewhere buried within these posts but I need to fix this fast ( my wife is all over me about phone not working)...if someone can give me some hints/links to the posts that can help me out I would really appreciated
Regards

Not trying to troll but this has been answered hundreds of times, mostly in threads just like this one. You cannot bypass the sign in screen on any stock myTouch/Magic ROM, only on most custom ones. If you press the menu button at the login screen, there should be an option to purchase a data day pass for $2. Do that to get in the phone, then root it and install a custom ROM so you don't have to worry about it later.

Thanks for help....I did resolve the issue....There wasn't an option to pay for data plan pass for day ( at least I did not see it in my 50+/- attempts to pass by the first screen)...what I did I went to T-mobile store and very nice young guy there helped me with store test SIM with data plan...it took 15 minutes to set up Google account and passwords etc etc and after that I put in my old prepaid SIM without data plan and phone worked like a charm. All phone functions worked and WI-FI capability allowed me to go online thru my home wireless network and to download several apps from market and to update OS to Android 2.21...etc etc

I would still root and install a new ROM. If you ever have to do a factory reset you'll have to sign in again. If you flash a new ROM, most add a "Skip" option to the login menu.

I did not know that...thanks for the hint.
I may consider it.
The only question is which ROM variant to install...
Regards
i would suggest that you try Gingerbread ROMS
