I found another hack on the web.
This time it's to speed up the display menus. I tested it & it's
really better =D
To do this you have to modify reg keys. So install a reg browser and follow the instructions :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\CacheSize=0x1000(4096) instead of 0
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\EnableCache=0x1(1) (1 is "in theory" already the default value)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\fsreplxfilt\ReplStoreCacheSize=0x1000(4096) instead of 0
Soft reset the ppc !
A cache is used for menus and apps, so the first time you execute a software or a menu, the speed is normal but the next ones are much faster !!!
Man you should realy read some posts on the forum before posting
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=38898
exactly the same
Props for the effort though!
Really sorry I'm new on the forum.
Will take care in the future...
It's not the same, the cache is larger in this hack.
1024 kb is reported to be more efficient than 4096 kb.
awesome
hello gurus...
is there any possibiliites to add more RAM? Atom has only 64, after OS it will go to 50mb.
AFAIK all ppc handheld is with 64mb RAM? CMIIW.
if can't...how to increase the speed?
please advise...thanks
regards,
ops2live
You have very correctly stated that all WM 5 devices have a maximum RAM (Program memory) of 64 MB. This is because this is the maximum limit what the operating system can address.
Maybe you can add more physical memory to the device but what is the use?? The operating system will not be able to use it.

... and more RAM means less battery life

This isn't true, the x51v can be upgraded to 128mb and still function. IIRC it is to do with the processor handling the ram, but that seems strange to me given the EXEC and the x51V both use the 270, just clocked differently.
you can owerclock the atom with xcpuscalar program
Dear Kropotov....
do you have atom registry that been optimized...i try several info from the forums but got problem on windows media.
Would you mind to share it pleasee....
1. Optimization perfomance.

if you want to do it by your hand,
do this:
CASH OPTIMIZATION
\HKLM\System\StorageManager\FATFS\CacheSize=0x2000(8192)
\HKLM\System\StorageManager\FATFS\EnableCache=0x1(1)
\HKLM\System\StorageManager\Filters\fsreplxfilt\ReplStoreCacheSize=0x2000(8192)
\HKLM\System\StorageManager\Profiles\MSFlash\FATFS\DataCacheSize=0x2000(8192)
HKLM\System\StorageManager\Profiles\MSFlash\FATFS\Flags=0x28(40)
after this TURN OFF for 30 seconds, after this perform soft reset
Dear kropotov and all...
i've been there (8192 setting). it's amaze me on speed but have problem while playing mp3.
question: do you have same problem???
...the 8192 is the best speed that i've ever had...but hiks...problems when having songs hiks...
really appreciate if you have solution....
may day...may day...houston we got problem
what player do you use for mp3? what bitrate? if morfe then 192, that is OK. you will have this problem
Here it is the thread you all been waiting for, these simple tools and freely avaliable software will turbo charge your X1 into the stratosphere, safely, consistantly and error free, upto 8 X faster !!!
To check these wild claims use SKTools 5 supplied here, within there is a benchmark program to test key paramenters like Video speed and Memory Card speeds, run benchmark a few times to get a consistant reading.
View attachment SKTools5.CAB
To find the Bench mark Program: Click Catagory at the bottom, then Information, then you will find the benchmark program.
1) Turbo charge your micro SD card.
View attachment 137353
This simple program written by XDA developers will increase the read speed of your micro SD card by a facter of 8 !
Benchmark before program: Read Speed: 2,000 approx
Benchmark after program: Read Speed: 16,000 approx
2) Turbo charge your graphics
Within SkTools5 there is a program called Optimize, it is under the first catagory : Standard. It will automatically pick 3 settings that can be adjusted, tick Font Cache Size and TCP window size. Then click the Action button at the bottom, make sure Performance is ticked and then click Optimize. The program will then do a soft reset.
Using Benchmark: Draw bitmaps: before Optimize: around 180, pathetic ! a 5 year old can draw faster than that.
Using benchmark: Draw bitmaps: after Optimize : around 780 - wow ! i-robot speed ha ha
Thats 4 X graphics - its smokin !
3) General performace tweaks
View attachment Schaps_AdvancedConfig_v2.0.2.0.CAB
Using Advanced Configuration settings, under performances check these settings.
File System Cache: Enabled
File System cache size: 8mb
File system filter cache: 16384 sectors
Glyph cache: 32 kb
The effect of all these tweaks and enhancements means I can play 800 x 480 video perfectly just like TV, and Touch 3D is silky smooth and fast.
These are not idle claims, my X1 has vastly improved performance all round, I am finally happy with my X1, it rocks, bring on that iphone and our 'cuz' the Touch HD.
With this site.
And a bit of insight.
Through our will.
And XDA Developer skill.
The X1 is...the king of the hill

thanks a lot. Will try out later
Don't see much of a difference but then again i had most of these tweaks already in with the exception of the sd card read/write speed increase.
I did these tweaks and like Bxsteez only the SD card read speed increased.. from around 2000kb to 15-16k kb... However the bitmat draw speed was already 781 from the start.. perhaps there are ways to evern further increase it?
And what more can we do?
Thank you so much!
Increasing the filesystem cache improved my file navigation. The Windows folder used to take a long time to display, now it's faster.
Can't see much improvement on the display though. BTW, any trade offs in terms of battery life with the tweaks?
Thanks for the tnyynt SD TuneUP.cab and it indeed make the Micro SD Card reading faster.
However, the Advanced Config program is not so good compared to another version I have as I cannot find many section like the calendars etc.
Thanks for your effort anyway.
Can anyone say what the dispaly/graphics tweaks do? Are they modifying certain registry entries?
Could someone tell us what is exactly changed, so we don't need to download that program, and can manually edit the registry entries?
Same for the SD Card tweak, what exactly is being changed here?
For learning for us all, I think it is much more interesting and important to know what is being done and being applied so we can learn from it and improve further, than just blindly install .CAB files!
I believe you can use advanced config to do all of those tweaks with the exception of the sd card tweak. I have no idea what is being done there.
The fastest X1 in the west !
After all your tweaking and performance enhancements, its time to put your X1's on the track. Tick all 6 benchmark catagories in SKTools5 and run the test, if anyone consistantly gets higher than any of these results please post your results, and any explanation or tools you may have to help us all improve.
Rules, there are none, may the fastest X1 win !
Custom Roms entries are welcome , any smokin hot rods out there ?
I have a stock Rom with a 16 gb sd card

Can you brake the 800 barrier on Bitmaps ?
Can your SD card out run the 17,000 sound barrier

Yay at least everything went up the 2nd time haha.
Hmmm whats the down side of applying all those tweaks?
battery life?
heat?
Can we undo all of those changes and get the phone back to what it was just in case something goes wrong ?
Thanks
what about the camera recording/encoding at vga?
any enhancement with these tweaks?

memory leaks = more freq. soft resets. they're all just registry changes so easy to revert.

What are you talking about? Most tweaks are just use more memory for caching to increase performance. The SD cab probably just enable DMA to increase throughput. All of them has nothing to do w/ memory leak.
BTW, why use SKtool instead of SPB Benchmark? SPB takes much longer but provide more detail.
Hi,
There has been a LOT of information said in previous forums on changing pagepool and its effect. But rather spread out, and rather confusing when investigated, and but not specifically for our HD
So in this thread can you post your experiences on what, how and why you changed your pagepool settings to.
Can you include...
1. What ROM you used when you changed the pagepool
2. How did you change it? Eg program etc...
3. Why did you go up/down?
4. How did it effect the a) speed, b) memory balance, c) program function in the ROM.
The program that I used is found here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=323269
But is there a way to change the pagepool without having to flash the rom again (one that requires only a soft reset)?
I would like to make up a table of experiences so that people can make informaed decisions...so the more data we get on this the better!
EG. I am using the Energy 21908 July 10 Dinik CHT rom...I changed it from 22MB to 24 MB.
I feel that it is more responsive when jumping between screens, and slightly quicker. The memory has remained about the same, but I have not used it long enough to comment on program usage...will update later.
Please post past and present experiences...
Regards
J
I used the same tool you used. Ive tried changing the pagepool from 12mb to 16mb, 32mb and 4mb. I did not see a significant difference between the default 12mb and the 16mb and 32mb. 4mb is not good as it cannot even load calendar. so I decided to go back to the default 12mb pagepool. I think 12mb is already the optimum pagepool for the HD with stock 1.56 rom
Hello to all of you.
I have read a lot about setting the Pagepool Size. I know the microsoft commentar on this and the differnet speed tests done by variuos users. Most of them not showing a big increase in speed, but a lot of people reporting a "smoother" UI. But finally all of this seems to be still a mystery for me,.... and of course for others too. There is no final conclusion to me how large the pagepool should be. My question is: How can I determine the optimal page pool size for my usage, without try & error? As I said, the benchmarks did not show a clear improvement, and UI smoothness is difficult to evaluate between the different pagepool settings.
As I understand, the pagepool area is only used for program code and NOT for program data. But the question is: Is this restricted to "user program" code or does also the system processes use this RAM area? If only the user programs are using the pagepool, can I then determin the "best pagepool" size for my usage by starting the taskmanager and summing up the mean RAM usage of all my user programs usally running during using my phone?
So for example if Samsung Taskmanager reports:
Opera Mobile 1,34 MB
Active Sync 0,43 MB
moTweets 3,89 MB
====================
Summary: 5,66 MB
Would then 6/7MB be the best pagepool size for this case? Or is this method inaccurate? Are there any experiences?
Currently I have the pagepool at 4MB. I use Windows Standard CHome with a light ROM. With these settings I habe 97-98 MB of available RAM. So my options would be:
98MB RAM / 4 MB PP
94MB RAM / 8 MB PP
90MB RAM / 12 MB PP
86MB RAM / 16 MB PP
...
Does Pagepool speed up also the programs or just the User Interface? And should I try 16MB? Or do you think this would be too high and therefore only wasting RAM?
Best regards,
Chris
