) Get a permanent factory unlock code from the remotesquaD. Call 1-877-600-7209 or text them at 719-290-1573 to get a code
2) Take your ATT SIM and insert it into your G1. Turn the phone on. You’ll then be prompted to enter your unlock code. Once you’ve successfully unlocked the phone you’ll now be prompted to associate your phone a GMail account but DON’T! At this point, you’ll have to implement a small trick outlined in the next step.
3) Power the phone off the hold down the “menu” button and power the phone back on. Do not quit pressing the menu button until you see a “safe mode” transparent icon in the bottom left corner of the screen.
4) Once the phone has successfully rebooted and your in the safe mode, select the menu button again. Select APN Settings. Once at the APN Settings select the menu key again then “New APN”.
5) Configure new APN settings.
Name: AT&T
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: leave blank

Server: leave blank
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
MMS Port: 80
MCC:310
MNC:410
APN Type: leave blank
6) Save Settings
7) Now you either create a new GMail account or add your existing one. Btw, I’m guessing your ATT SIM will need to be data capable otherwise you won’t be able to configure our phone with an account. If this is the case, you might want to borrow a friends T-Mobile SIM and follow this how-to http://www.bukisa.com/articles/44515_how-to-activate-and-unlock-boxed-packed-t-mobile-g1
8) Once you’ve activated and/or associated your GMail account with the phone, you can now use your T-Mobile G1 with ATT.
9) Power off phone and reboot in regular mode (i.e. do NOT hold down menu when booting up). If you don’t, you will not be able to to launch installed applications from the market.
Hope this helps!

This is an answer not a question!!
It works
and I did it this morning on a couple of Tmobile my touch.
if the safe mode does not work... after entering the data..
u can turn it off and turn back on without the safe mode and
re do the google account and u r done.
This should be doable with any DATA SIM of any country i assume.
Has anyone tried outside USA/Canada?
Why go to safe mode
You do not need to go to safe mode to enter the APN settings. When you are asked to enter Gmail username and password, just press menu. At the bottom, you'll have an option to add APN settings. Make sure you save the settings before going back to the main page.
I just tried it and IT WORKS...I live in the UK so had to change the info around though...THNX

vodfone says its gprs/edge service cannot access https websites..
as google login requires https protocol all those who are with gprs/edge wont be able to go ahead.
you need to call your service provider and tell them " i need data plan that allows me to access all www sites"
i have tried almost on all service providers and this is the language they understand..
it takes few hrs for activation for vodafone mobile connect.
after activtion enter APN: www
leave all fields blank.
BANG! you are now in if you don need the service deactivate it!

For one list of Rom's I recommend this
How to Restore Factory Settings
This is as suggested by HTC Help Desk. It will (provided you have not fiddled with your phone too much) restore the phone back to how it came from the shops. It will not, however, change anything on your SD card.
Turn off the phone (either removing the battery or shutting down by holding the "end call" button.)
While off, hold the "home" (house) and "back" (the arrow in the bottom right corner) keys.
Then briefly hit the "end call" button" while holding the "home" and "back" buttons.
Release the "home" and "back" buttons as a white screen containing technical information should appear, with a red message asking for you to press the "menu" button.
Tap the "menu button" and the Hero will now boot up with it's factory settings.
Theory: I think that if you have installed a custom rom, it will simply restore to original install of that Rom.
How To Change the Google Account associated with the phone.
Unfortunately the only way to do this is to install a new rom or to do a factory reset. The easiest way for people without custom Roms is to do a factory reset. It does not require any advanced technical knowledge. See the above solution for instructions. This will result in a loss of data however if you are using Google contacts they will sync back automatically.
If you don't sync your contacts to a Google account, or you did not setup a Google account at all, you can use HTC Sync to sync your contacts to Outlook/Windows Address Book/Windows Contacts before resetting the phone. After wards you can simply sync them back. This could save you a lot of time entering your contacts again. (Thanks to "johnwoo.nl" for reminding me about this bit of advice)
How to fix a corrupted ROM installation that results in the phone restarting over and over again (Without a nandroid backup).
The problem: You have rooted your phone, done a factory reset/wipe and then flashed a new update.zip in the recovery mode only to find that this update is corrupted and the phone will not go past the introductory screens. In this example the phone was switched on and it would go from the T-mobile G2 screen, to the HTC screen then briefly to a black screen and restart. None of the buttons would do anything. The only way to restart is to take out the battery. Unfortunately- you have forgotten to do a nandroid backup.
The fix:
Turn off the phone and take out the battery.
Restart the phone by holding home and power. Release when the phone has booted into recovery mode.
Plug into your computer via USB
Set up adb following the instructions in the article below (if that doesn't work for you use any other instructions you trust- you simply need adb to be working).
Find a new, alternative or generic update.zip file from here
use the push command to copy it to your phone
Once copied, use the sdcard select update.zip command from recovery on the phone to select the new update.zip
Reboot the device
You should be good to go.
How to set up adb
This is the method I used to set up adb on Windows 7 32bit. It should work the same for Vista.
This works for rooted phones.
Download these usb drivers.
Extract them to a folder on your C:\ drive called adbdrivers.
On your phone, click Settings > Applications > Development and check USB Debugging option.
Plug in your phone and when the 'New Hardware Found' wizard pops up, use select drivers on my computer and select the folder you have just created (c:\adbdrivers).
Download this Winzip file http://graha.ms/androidproxy/AdbWin.zip.
Extract it to the into a folder called AndroidAdb in your C:\ Directory.
Plug in your phone and reboot it while holding the house and power key as to boot into recovery mode.
Go to the start menu and type in the box cmd. Open the application that comes up as administrator (right click > open as administrator).
In the command window that appears, type "cd C:\AndroidAdb" (without the quotations) and hit enter.
Type "adb devices" you should see your devices serial number appear. If so you have been successful and can use the adb interface and commands.
I hope this is correct. If it doesn't work simply find some other instructions that do. In terms of debugging or messing about, adb is priceless.
Phone slows down after a lot of use.
As mentioned by "joemax" Android manages its own memory quite well. I have only ever come across this problem once, and it was when I first got the phone and I was installing everything that looked mildly interesting from the Market and opening them all and fiddling. It is unlikely that you will have the phone lag under normal use. If lagging is occuring regularly, it could perhaps be because you are not running the latest firmware. Original HTC Hero's have an percentage of lag that is fixed by the 2.73 update available from the HTC website here.
This could be due to the fact that Android multitasks and many apps you have been using are still open. A simple solution to this is to go to the Marketplace and install the free application "Advanced Task Killer". Once installed it is as simple as opening the application, Selecting everything your not using and clicking kill. Phone is running smoothly again!
Phone slows down after a lot of use.

Nope, never seen that problem with both versions of the firmware.

Surely you would have noticed that if you go through and open up around 15 or so applications that the phone becomes a little more laggy?
Perhaps its just what I've been doing that makes this appear. No harm in killing excess apps though!
I would have thought that even on a theory level it would have to happen- as ram becomes less available the phone would slow down.
Nope... TBH why would I want 15 apps running ?
Android is supposed to manage the memory by halting or killing background apps if foreground apps need memory.
I've never noticed a slow down like suggested, and I guess I open around 15 apps throughout the whole day, some multiple times like HTC Mail, Twidroid etc.
I find it best to let the OS just manage itself.
Anyway... don't want to lead this thread off topic. Some useful infos above and its good to have these in one thread rather than spread around.
cheers
Does anyone have mobile internet and mms settings for T-mobile uk?
I've flashed new rom yesterday and forget to note them... :/

Yes, that's true - if you systematically go opening up applications you will see this effect. It is artificially stressing the system though, because you won't be using all 15 applications simultaneously. If you use the phone "normally", you won't see this because Android will automatically close down applications as required if system resources are getting low and the application is not performing any useful work (see http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/fundamentals.html ).
The important part is here:
The Android system tries to maintain an application process for as long as possible, but eventually it will need to remove old processes when memory runs low. To determine which processes to keep and which to kill, Android places each process into an "importance hierarchy" based on the components running in it and the state of those components. Processes with the lowest importance are eliminated first, then those with the next lowest, and so on.
Click to collapse
Essentially, you can leave Android to manage itself, and most of the time it does a pretty good job of it. Sure, there will be situations where a manual kill might help, but I've yet to encounter one myself.
Regards,
Dave

Hello all, I am requesting help with an issue that I am having with my HD2.
Ive had the phone for a little over a month now, and it is a great device. I bought the phone unlocked, and it was working just fine. But recently the pass code (the 4 digit pin to use the phone) to unlock the phone stopped working, because of this i had to do a hard reset on the phone. This set everything back to factory settings.
After some work I got most of everything back to normal, my only issue that i am having is Sending MMS messages. I have the server set up correctly as well as the data connections to the internet but for some reason it still wont let me send MMS messages.
I searched all over the board but nothing i found could help me so far.
If anyone has any advice or know how on how to fix this problem it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
-Jmann

Ive searched the entire board thoruoughly, and unfortunatly most of them only talk about fixing the MMS server (which isnt my problem), unless i overlooked something
@Shum97 i appreciate that, but thats the set up for Virgin Mobile phones, not ATT
No other help? Anyone?
i dont know about at+t but on o2 uk i have to have two data connections set up. One is the proper mobile data "mobile web", the other is wap, "o2 active", and this is the one used for mms.
If i set the mms settings to use the regular data account it fails.
Thing is, when you go to settings all settings connection connection and press 'manage existing connections' you only see the mobile web account available to edit.
What you need to do to see the other is go to advanced tab, and 'select networks'.
In the top dropdown, mine says mobile web, but if i change that and choose o2 active instead, click OK, and now go back to the tasks tab, the top half now lets me click 'manage existing accounts' to edit the o2 active account instead of the mobile web account.
(dont forget to change it back, else progs that auto connect to the net will try to use the wap account. In my case it still works, but is slow, and i think costs.)
So, , , not sure if it is any help to you, but when i set up manually, (and i have done three or four times) i ...
1 - set up the o2 active wap account
2 - set up the mobile data account
3 - set up the mms server settings, making sure to choose o2 active and not mobile web as the connection.
THanks alot, ill be sure to give this a try, Does anyone think Flashing my device might help with my problem?

only if the 'connection setup' has details of the at+t network in it. connection setup for the euro leo can be found as a cab, im sure the tmo one can be too, but i suspect neither will have att network settings in it.
Id guess it's manual all the way, sorry.
ah i see, ill play around with it and see what i can do then
I cannot recieve mms on my HTC HD2 running any version of Android. I am going to try phireMOD Skinny tomorrow.I have done a search but cannot seem to find them for vodafone, there are lots for T-Mobile.

**EDIT: I've tried these settings and have done a hot restart but am still unable to send mms. Did you get it working potsykate?
Thanks very much.I will try these setting later today.

No I didnt,, just came up with download,,, clicked that but nothing happened, tried it 3 times on the same message with same result.
For me, i completely lost my data connection once i changed to these settings. Wish i could get the mms to work as it would make like that much more simpler.
I've tried the following and it seems to work for me. Leave your current APN though, but set this one as your default:
1. Press the MENU key
2. Touch Settings
3. Touch Wireless & networks
4. Touch Mobile networks
5. Touch Access Point Names
6. Press the MENU key
7. Touch New APN
8. Touch Name
9. Enter Vodafone MMS, touch OK
10. Touch APN
11. Enter:
For Pay monthly customers: wap.vodafone.co.uk
For Pay as you go customers: pp.vodafone.co.uk
12. Touch OK
13. Touch Proxy
14. Enter 212.183.137.012, touch OK
15. Touch Port
16. Enter 8799, touch OK
17. Touch Username
18. Enter wap, touch OK
19. Touch Password
20. Enter wap, touch OK
21. Touch MMSC
22. Enter http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms, touch OK
23. Touch MMS proxy
24. Enter 212.183.137.012, touch OK
25. Touch MMS port
26. Enter 8799, touch OK
27. Press the MENU key
28. Touch Save
29. Touch the circle to the right of the Vodafone MMS profile you have just created.
So you should end up having this one selected and one that says Contract Wap (if your a Pay Monthly customer). ** Messages can take up to 10 mins to come through (sent one to myself).
Been using these settings for a few days now and MMS and my internet has been so stable.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Brilliant, thanks for the walkthough, finally got MMS working really good on my HD2,,
Hello, I have Samsung Focus rev1.3 Unlocked phone, with interop unlock. Is there any way to manually edit settings for MMS? I enabled auto SIM settings, but it doesn't find my operator. Also I installed app from Samsung which is called Network Profile, and only AT&T is showing up there.
Here are MMS settings for my mobile operator:
• Homepage/Service centre address/MMS relay server/Server MMS/Connection URL: mms.geocell.com.ge/cmmsc/post
• APN: mms
• Gateway IP/Primary proxy: 10.11.240.7 Port: 9201 (WAP1.1 )
• Gateway IP/ Primary proxy: 10.11.240.7 Port: 8080 (WAP2.0)
• Authentication: normal
Is there any way I can manually enter them?
Also, I tried this method and it seems 277634#*# code doesn't work for samsung phones:
"1. Go to the phone app
2. Dial ##634# and click Send
3. When prompted for a password type 277634#*#
4. You should now be at "Factory Menu"
5. Choose "Engineer Menu"
6. Choose "Other Setting"
7. Verify that "Set ADC" is set to Enable
8. From the "Other Setting" page, choose "Set network profile"
9. You should now be on the "Set network profile" page and in the bottom half of the window you should see a list of *.xml files. These appear to be the network configuration files.
10. Look at the filenames for the config files and take your best guess at which one to choose for your provider. I'm on AT&T and I fixed the MMS problem by choosing "_PROV_ATT_US_310_410.xml" "
Any help is highly appreciated. Thank you
Did you find the answer? I am also dealing with this. I talked to my carrier, Samsung and Microsoft about this and still have no solution.
I was able to get mine working on Bell in Canada by editing the registry with this entry. I have not had to manually set any other options including the APN info.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\AutoDataConfig]
"RunADC"=dword:1
"ConfigurationStatus"=dword:0
"Attempt"=dword:0
"MaxAttemptsAllowed"=dword:3
still trying to get this working...
I'm planning to install [ROM] Clean ROM - Stock UI - RTM 8858 Base today, is there any way to manually edit MMS settings?
it works
Just go to edit APN in Cellular Settings and type in your Carriers APN.
What I did was I typed in T-Mmobile's APN and my mms worked find after that.
