How DO I Tether? - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Hey everyone..
Anyway I was wondering how would I go about tethering my device to my computer. If there is a cable tethering method I would prefer that. I want my computer to be able to use my phone's 3G network.
Also a cabled tether is prefered. I am running CyanogenMod 4.2.3

Here's the changelog for Cyanogen 4.2.3
---- v4.2.3
* USB Tethering support! (enable under Wireless Settings)
* Bluetooth OBEX! (new sharing options in Music, Contacts, and Gallery, plus BT FTP app note- Android can't act as a BT FTP server yet)
* Launcher auto-orientation can be disabled via Spare Parts
* Shined up launcher handles from Prash
* Phone mod v11.1 from Cytown

I used this today and it rocks (I'm currently using CM 4.2.5)
Connect your device using USB
Go into settings
Go into Wireless Controls
Tick the box next to Internet Tethering
I would also recommend NetCounter to monitor your data use as I managed to clock up 70Mb in less than an hour ... not good when your 'fair use' policy only allows 250Mb a month!!

[Q] Tethering & Portable Hotspot

I currently running darkstone HD2Froyo v2.1 kernel 2.6.32.9 on my HTC HD2. I have tried activating the portable wi-fi hotspot on my phone but I get an error message. However, I have been able to enable the USB tethering on my Windows 7 64bit system, but its requesting a network password to enable internet access.
Does anyone know if portable wi-fi hotspot can be enabled with this android build and what password to use to enable the USB tethering?
Thanks in advance.
Similar problem
I am not sure what build I have on, been running it for a week. But I experienced a similar problem when i tried setting up a mobile hotspot this morning.
If you go into portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings > Advanced you can change the channel. Mine doesn't work at all when it is set to Auto. If I change the channel then the hotspot begins and i can detect it using my iPad. But then my phone restarts.
I haven't had much time to play with it as I am at work. But I will play around some more tonight. Still it might be worth changing the channel and seeing if it works or does the same thing as me
Good luck
Hi on the darkstone website it says:
Whats not working:
- Wifi Tethering
But also says:
Whats working:
........(amongst other things ) ......
- USB Tethering
Sure enough if I try wifi tethering it just reboots the phone, however like you I am having no luck with USB tethering it simply just dosen't connect , I am having to tether via WINMO as I write this , I did try some software off the market , but it requires a 'rooted' android phone and I am not sure wether android on an HD2 is or can be made to be rooted , anyway , anyone successfully got usb tethering working its a pain to reboot phone when I need the internet

Easy Tether

During my recent probe to find the best way to tether my phone having access to all the settings i came across this little apk for the android phones which replaces the built in system.
Your phone must be rooted to use this file, i know some networks like sprint lockdown the tether options, this gets around that issue.
I dont know if its been posted here before or not, but i hope some of you guys may find it useful and the page is very useful info.

Try it on my note running midnote ICS 3.2. Doesn't work, my note freeze and have to reboot.
whats wrong with the tethering and portable hotspot setting in the wireless and networks... it is simple to use and works great..no root needed.... its on the stock rom...
If third party tethering app, then i say 'wireless tether' is better
It supports thethring via blutooth too, As well having mac security option.

Both my daughter's Macbook Air and my wife's Dell laptop have successfully connected wirelessly to my Galaxy Note and downloaded stuff from the Net. With H+ speed it is as quick as my ADSL+ connection at home!
It is so easy to setup ... Settings > Wireless and Network > Tethering and Portable hotspot. Make sure you choose a good password!

[How to]Use your phone as WIFI USB Card.

Hi,
I Shared this software was i found because I think it is very useful if you dont have a Wifi USB card.
PdaNet+ is one of the top Android applications of all time. PdaNet+ shares the Internet access of your Android phone with your computer or tablet. PdaNet+ works on all Android phones without rooting. It also does not require a tether plan, that will save you $20/month from most carriers.
PdaNet+ now bundles both PdaNet and FoxFi to give you supports of WiFi hotspot in addition to USB Tether and Bluetooth DUN. In USB mode it is capable of handling download speed of well above 35Mbps (35000kbps) and is the fastest tethering software available for Android.
Website :ht tp :/ / junefabrics. com /android/ delete spaces... my first post sry.
How to?
1 Install Program and follow setup steps.
2 When installation finished automatically the setup install the PDAnet app in your phone.
3 Now open PDAnet app and check Activate USB Tethe is marked.
4 Go to wifi settings in your device and enable wifi, now(in your device) search the wifi acces point what you want to connect.
You can see a new running network in your network connections center.
Compatibility
Android, Iphone, Windows Mobile,BlackBerry, PalmOS
Seeyou ^^
PD: You can download the full version program for example in: piratebay.se, simply search "pdanet" in browser
Good one
its a good one...will be useful for some one...........but i think no one have visited this post

[Q] Anyway to add Bluetooth tethering?

To address the "why" question first: Because I want to tether internet to my car which only support native Bluetooth (I have tried apps). This will allow me to get real time traffic in the GPS among other things.
So I have a Canadian TN-910W8 5.0.1 , the WiFi/USB tethering option are working but the bluetooth tethering checkbox is missing from the menu.
Is there a way (setting/file/apk) to enable it?
My phone is rooted, I am open to go to stock based rom ( I use the stylus, fingerprint, health etc).
Thanks!

recommend me a good tether app

i finally rooted my moto X pure. hotspot does not work on its own and i dont know how to edit the settings for it. So i tried looking for apps but some of them that i once had does not work.
Barnacle doesnt work
Wifi tether router gives a giant mcafee warning stating its a threat with Android/Bokbe.A!Gen or Malware for basic
FoxFi i have to pay 8 dollars for it when i didnt need to before
clockworkmod works but its usb tether
any other options?
Is your carrier restricting you from using your data plan to host a WiFi hotspot? Mine works just fine with no additional apps required. When I first turned it on, it made sure my data plan supported the feature then worked as expected.

Verizon?
Usually tethering is only blocked if you have an unlimited data plan

When you turn on the stock app, is there an error message or anything? The stock tether app usually works well.

_New World Order (NWO)_
yeah i tried that, doesnt work. thanks.
ill either unroot entirely or switch to another OS
use clockworkmod on a pc and make that pc a gateway for a wireless router (set pc ip address manually to something static) configure the router properly, then just connect all your other devices to that wireless router
UPDATE:
Wifi tether creator replied to my email saying mcafee has a false positive on it because its root, mcafee never tested it.
but what i did discover is this. when i played with the wifi tether app, they have the ability to allow tether completely wifi. in it contained was a LTE patch to allow tethering and it worked. if anyone is able to get the patch out, then jackpot we have tether ability

Right, the above build.prop edit eliminates this phone home verification. I've tested it successfully also on a cricket unlimited plan.
