Slowest device ever??? - HD2 General

Hey guys!
I just wrote a little OpenGL ES application for my HD2 (just renderings ome quads). And guess what: it runs MUCH slower than any other HTC device I had.
The framerate is < 1. Even the MS Device emulator runs faster!
How's that possible? I thought the HD2 was super fast (according to several benchmarks I saw).
Is there some scret registry hack? A magic driver?
WTF! This can't be true....

That's weird!!! Look to this video which compares the HD2 with the HD in a OpenGL stress test. HD2 behaves very very good.

Yeah, that's weird
I just tested it again: the same application on my Diamond 2 (WM6.1) and the HD2 (Wm6.5). On the D2 it runs smooth as hell, on the HD2 it gets around 0.5 FPS.

OpenGL test
How well does your app run on other devices?

As far as I know, fine.
For example the hdBoobs app from this forum: works fine for most people, doesn't work fine on any HD2

OpenGL ES 1.x? or 2.0?

Friend, not all devices are created equally The HD2 has issues with OpenGL ES 1.x, seems it isn't "backwards-compatible", so use 2.0 to see the true capabilities of the SnapDragon!!

Okay, thanks for the hint
So far I was using the C# Wrapper found here:
http://www.koushikdutta.com/2008/08/net-compact-framework-wrapper-for.html
So I guess this one uses OpenGL ES 1.0? Then a maybe stupid question: How can I use OpenGL ES 2.0 with C#? Is there another Wrapper for this?
Thanks a lot!

Whats your ROM version? most games seem fine on the one in my sig, can you post the app your testing?

Try this silly thing

Ahh was going to comment in your thread about that lol
The loading screen loads up and flys off the top of the screen on my device but no boobs lol just a blank screen??

must be wm 6.5
IT must be wm 6.5 certainly. are all your others on 6.5 too?
No, they are WM 6.1.
So: does WM6.5 suck up all the computational power? I don't hope so
Are there any tweaks neccessary to make OpenGL ES run smoothly under WM6.5?
Okay, just realized I posted to the totally wrong forum. Sorry!
Please close this one.

can i hv that App? need to try it on mine and will let u no...
According to several posts on the application section it only seems to have drivers for OpenGL ES 2.0, did you write it in OpenGL ES 1.1? That might explain the slowness (which in my view is a big no-go... how could HTC do that to this device... omg).
You might aswell want to read this topic about improving the performance (NeoS2007 at the driver developing again):

OpenGL 2.0? Please explain me...

Hello to everybody. I read some articles about windows games and I found that, in some cases, a lot of people claim that HD2 is not built with OpenGL 2.0 inside, but only 1.1
Since I am not an expert or a developer, could someone explain me the differences between the two different library? I mean, I know that 2.0 is for sure better than 1.1, but are there drivers, programs or software to install? Are they "in-built" inside the chipset?
If not, how to test if HD2 is capable to run OpenGL 2.0?
Thanks a lot to everybody
Hi
http://www.southend.se/games/electopia/index.php
Its an OpenGL2.0 game that perfectly runs on Leo, that means Leo HAS Opengl 2.0 support.
yeah there's quite a lot of FUD spread around about the HD2..
It does seem sometimes as if it's deliberate attacks against it.
HD2 does support GL 2 ( I think more specifically openGL ES 2.0)
there is now an openGL 3.2

To be honest I find openVG more intriguing as it has more potential for day to day use..
maybe we dont trust htc anymore

Got PSX games running on my apache!

Every time I think there is absolutely no life left in this poor little phone, it always surprises me. I tried it on a whim after I got it working on my Tilt 2, with no expectation it would work. Ten minutes later I'm playing Final Fantasy Tactics on my phone, and I don't mean it boots up and you have to deal with crippling lag or slowness, it's playable! On 5 frame skip it runs at about 45 FPS with and sound on!
Here is my set-up.
FPSEce 0.10
Omnia D3D Driver
HTC Performance to overclock to 624Mhz
PDAJ'S Clean WM 6.5 Build 21501 ROM (You can find it at PPCgeeks)
Only S2U2 and iContact Avian Edition are running in the background
I've only tested Final Fantasy Tactics due to having limited space on my memory card, but I plan on trying out a few more games. I also heard that disabling the sound can get you quite a few more frames per second, plan on trying that out. If anyone needs either the Omnia D3D Driver or HTC Performance cabs, I'll be more then happy to post them for you. Try it yourself and post the results.
Happy Gaming!
Niceee
That's pretty awesome dude, i would love to get PSX games running on my HTC Tilt 2.
you should see what gran turismo looks like on my expo running at 60fps.

Please do post it here. Is it needed to run FPSce? I Remember my old Ipaq 1940 could run them full speed without any drivers...
I hate how I spent so much money on the HTC Apache back in the day only so it could become a useless pile. I saw that post up there on a successful PSX game on the Apache and I got really excited.
I tried installing all that same stuff (the D3D driver, the overclocking utility, FPSEce) only as for the Apache's ROM, I used a custom ROM I built with PPCKitchen (it couldn't differ much from the 'clean' ROM, because you can hardly add anything to it because of the limited space).
I tried running Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and it didn't run past the "Press Start" screen. I was hoping that since the game is a fairly simple sidescroller, it would run on the Apache, but no luck.
So far (for me) the only emulator I've tried that runs well and plays smooth on the Apache is that PocketNester. The PocketSNES runs about like the DreamSNES for Dreamcast: only runs at an acceptable framerate without sound. I thought it would be better, since the Dreamcast runs at 200mhz and the Apache can be overclocked to 624mhz... Granted I've only tried these three emulators, but those were the three I knew I'd probably get the most use out of.
With this in mind, I figure a gameboy emulator would run perfectly also.

psx4droid on DHD performance

Has anyone used psx4droid on their Desire HD? I can't help but notice choppy response and laggy gameplay, although it seemed to run much better on the desire and galaxy S. Any ideas? Has anyone tried?
The emulator runs horribly terrible for its V2 version, framerate runs at 30-40 fps and occasionally dips to 20ish. V1 1.7 runs much better but still the framerate seems to have more room for improvement.

Totally agree! I experience the the same frame drop.
But in my opinion the problem comes from the roms. I tried dozens of roms, they all make my HD slower, I don't know why.
The first rom 1.32 (when I bought the phone) was the best!
It runs great on mine. Have u got anti alias turn on? I found that Rele slows it down.

Where is that setting?? I see nothing about AA in options.
For me it runs quite crap aswell. I was looking at videos of other phones and it runs much better on SGS. Maybe it's not optimized for DHD?
Anyway, Fpsece has been announced and it will be released soon. This is a port of a WM6 PS1 emulator which is extremelly good on WM platform and looking at videos, this will be the one to play PS1 games on Android.
Check it out: http://pocketnow.com/android/legendary-fpsece-playstation-emulator-ported-to-android
When I ran the free / lite version, I actually thought it was somewhat playable ... but then I bought the full version and that seems to run very slow .....
Hopefully when we get the Playstation Suite / Store and Sony's official emulator, things will work fine. The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play runs the same Qualcomm CPU / GPU combo as the DHD ....
I also have the same problem, runs very slow.
We won'y have to use psx4droid much longer. A developer has been working on this:

runs pretty well on my DHD, as mentioned earlier turning off anti-aliasing helps alot and overclocking to 1.5ghz helps alot
I've tested this is on FFVII & MGS

Yes thats true, but until the playstation suite is actually released, we have to use an alternative.
i tried the v3.0.7 on my dhd with a bichon rom (v3.3). it doesn't run at all ! i tried .bin and .iso image, but nothing works. Is there anything to do ?

Anyone else excited about FPSE for android?

So schrtuck is porting his amazing PS1 emulator from WinMo to Android. There are some videos on youtube he posted and it seems to run really really well.
Finally an alternative to the busted PSX4DROID.
I'm pretty excited about it!!!
I'm really excited for this. PSX4DROID is not so good and Fpsce on WM ran really awesome so if this is just as good we can expect to be gaming PS1 games without much hiccups
I've tried contacting sctruck (the dev of FPSE) to ask him if there's a price yet and is it going to be available on the market but no response yet.
Also asking him if it's going to have GPU accel for those of us with a Droid/Milestone.
I have used FPSEce on the HD2, I had it for quite some time and it's superb I have literally just tried FFVII on PSX4DroidV2 on my Desire and it's terrible, it doesn't use the full screen, I can't force the resolution and it runs at about 15 fps despite it saying 50+.
Rollllll on FPSE for Android.
I can't wait for this

thank goodness.. psx4droid = bad. i remember fpsece on winmo, it was awesome
Just a quick update. Schtruck has stated that A) if android's GPU API works well enough, Cortex A8 based devices (droid/milestone/droid x) are going to perform as well if not better than current gen Snapdragons.
(I might hope that if you're running 2.3 which has a better GPU API, it's going to run even better).
B) It's going to cost 5 bucks or maybe even less.
Any news on when it's arriving?

I'd pay double that if it works as well as it did on WM.
This is going to be super special awesome! Can't wait to see this.

I'm very excited. I can get FF7 and CC running at 60 fps if I OC my Droid X to 1.25 GHz, but it lags on occasion and I don't like psx4droid's virtual keypad.
Think the save states and memory cards will be compatible?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I'm not sure about stats, but memory cards should be compatible since psx4droid uses standard memory card files that are also recognized by ps emulators for pc.

Crash bandicoot 3 works SO much better than it did on PSX4Droid - no freezing bug. I've not tried any other games yet, so if anyone else has used the emulator please tell.
Also, the amount of customisation is brilliant!

The market webstore is brilliant for installing apps you can't see on your phone/tablet.
tried it on hd2 oced, it's super fast Almost no lag at all on crash bandicoot 3 ,with which psx4droid was veeery slow! Now if it wasn't for hd2's known multitouch issues, gameplay would be perfect
Has anyone tried it on a Vibrant/Captative/Galaxy S???
