So I have installed a lot of programs on the main memory of my HD2.
Here is the report :
Total storage : 181,60 mb
Used storage : 171,22 mb
free storage : 10,38 mb
Total program : 336,97 mb
Used program : 188,96 mb
Free program : 148,01
to check yours go to the settings tab and select phone storage
I've only installed the game on the phone, all the rest is on my microsd!
By checking with Treesize mobile, it appears that they are 422,83 mb of files in the Windows folder! (so 10492 files!!!!!)
is it normal?
Didn't had this on my HD with the same programs on it?
Thanks

Yesterday, I installed Copilot Live and I downloaded the benelux map.
It's a this moment that I saw this huge memory usage!
So I decided this morning to perform a hard reset, I installed back my apps without copilot live and my memory usage is still so important!
what is your memory usage?
I saw already on this forum some memory usage pics and these confirm that my
huge memory usage is not an exception!

Dear All
Please excuse me if my questions look silly:
I bouth a Wizard and read it has 64MB RAM and 128MB ROM total 192MB
The manual also confirmed this.
At startup, evening after hard reset and pressing soft reset within 3 secs, I have:
Storage 47MB Program: 44 MB
Total 91 MB
Where are the remaining 100 MB?
Thanks

128MB of TOTAL ROM = 64MB for OS/ROM (not available for user) + 64MB for file storage that is available for user
64MB of RAM = Used like RAM on a PC, Windows Mobile has to load itself into RAM in order to run so that's why you'll never have 64MB free.
In any case, what you are seeing is correct
Thanks a lot
Is there any way to oncrease the total availble memory?
There are several programs I never used, in the original package, such as
- file explorer
- pictures and video
- modem links
- sim manager
- terminal services
- power point mobile
- zip
- power excel
I would love to re-install a streamline version of the OS and have back 110 or 120 MB free usable memory!
Thanks
Saulo
nope, there's no way at this moment

So does this imply that little is gained by installing to the external storage card? I've seen both opinions on this.
if i use a memory card to store my songs and videos etc can i use botht the storage memory and program memory for the device itself. e.g. ringtones that have to be placed in the windows/rings folder and alarm and message tones which have to be in the /windows/ folder?
Dear All
Does anyone know how to free more memory?
Is there some special page on wiki (I cannot find) that explain how to tweak?
Or alternatively, is there a way to increase internal memory to 256MB.
At the moment, since most of my apps does not work on mini-SD, I need to increase internal memory
Thanks and waiting for any suggestions

hI,
IS THERE A POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO MOVE MBs FROM PROGRAMS TO STORAGE?
what do u mean? do you want to move your installed applications in the phone to memory card? nope! it will corrupt i think, you have to uninstall it then re install it. however, some programs which are related to the system (like helmi dialer) will be automatically installed to phone memory....
and if you mean mem as the old 2003 slider for deviding mem between app and storage then no
that vent away when ms made wm5
maybe progs like DOC or flashdisk can merge extended rom with storage if you need more storage
I mean the possibility, having 60 mb for programs and only 3 mb ffor storage, to move for example 10 mb from the first too the last: the situation will become: programs 50mb storage 13 mb.
from where you get 3 mb of storage and aditional 60 mb for programs, in blueangel we have 60 mb storage and 128 mb ram (so called program memory), or maybe you do not have Blueangel device
Please tell us your device and rom version, and you will get advice
anyway storage is flash and as such have a limited nr of write it can take before it dies
if it was used as application ram it would die very! fast
also why is it ppl want so much application ram?
programs take as much ram as they require the fact that there is plenty left dont make them faster at all
free app ram is just empty doing nothing
also BA has 128 MB ram more than most pocketpc's on the market why you need more ?
the problems is i have installed some applications that must be installed on the device; after these operations i stay with the following indications:
storage 3.68 mb (remaining);
programs 60 mb (remaining).
I'll ry 2 applications i found that could zip and unzip automatically all the files (and applications) resident on the device.
I'LL LET YOU KNOW IF I SOLVED THE PROBLEM
success!!!!

With this one i succeded to increase as follow:
extended rom from 16 mb to 32 mb;
sd card from 2 gb to 4 gb
Swelldisk isn't the best option AFAIK. Try to find in the forum, that was discussed, and few people lost their data from the SD.

Sounds interesting. Can you explain how you did it.
THEY HAVE MANY TOOLS BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE IS IN POCKET MECHANICH AND IS CALLED "STORAGE"; IN FEW WORDS YOU CAN CHOOSE A FOLDER/APPLICATION ON THE MAIN STORAGE AND DECIDE TO MOVE TO A SD CARD.
any reference to this original forlder (also registry keys) change their behaviour/pointing action to the new "location"

I don't know how to increase Storaqge mem. like you did...
Please could you tell me the procedures you followed to do that ?
Cheers
"I don't know how to increase Storaqge mem. like you did...", you can't. You can only reduce usage by careful planning...Install programs to storage card, configure IE cache and temp files to storage card..... Swelldisk only work on external storage.
move the cache and all the avaiable dll to storae card: it works
I found a safe way to achieve the above:
1. Create a folder Sotage Card\ Windows
2. Include this folder name in "path"
3. Freely move any DLLs into this folder from \Windows to Storage Card\Windows
I used SKTools for achieving this. I am not sure which DLLs may be required in original \Windows folder during reflashing ROM, though I had absolutely no problem in reflashing with all DLLs moved, but better to move back system related DLLs back to original path before reflashing.

Cache will be recreated if you move the contents to another location, so you dont achieve any thing, rather waste space on storage card. If you really want to do this, change the registry settings too.
Moving DLLs to another location without declaring location name in "path" is incorrect way.
i tried but i dont know how to Include the folder name in "path"

well fair enough but maybe u can explain it cause if u got a computer with a total of 120 MB RAM it will always have 120MB ram just becuse apps are using the ram does not decrease the amount of ram your computer has just the amount of memory that is free.
My device has 120 MB of program RAM and with lots of apps runnign i should still have 120MB RAM but i would have a lot less free. As it stand my polaris thinks it only has 87.4 MB of ram of witch 37% is free. Instead 120MB with 37% free
Honestly, I don't understand this either. I haven't tested, but if you install Manila on a ROM that didn't have it cooked in, I doubt the total memory would drop down.
I could only think this is a side effect of the video drivers (meaning the hidden memory is dedicated to the drivers which I'd understand), the other is that it's a bug that hasn't been properly explained/been looked over for some reason.
I'm no expert at ROM cooking by any means, but it definitely looks weird to me.
ahwell...
you have theese 2 in your settings/memory: Storage & Program
compare the official rom, with cooked rom, both storage and programs
edit:
forgot to mention, check out your settings/device information hardware tab.

Itje told you already: check settings/device information.
The memory information is different from Rom to Rom and from language to language. My stock HTC german WM 6.0 Rom is reporting under "program memory" 100,77 MB, but under "settings - system - device info - hardware" its 128 MB Ram.
The difference is caused by drivers, the pagepool and other things. The more pagepool a rom is having the less total memory you will see. That means the polaris is having 128 MB Ram. But if the Rom is having 28 MB pagepool you will see in memory - program memory only a total of 100 MB. If you want to know details about pagepool please use search. You will find either in upgrading or in development some more details about the pagepool.
I checked now the new HTC 6.1 german Rom, the pagepool is 6 MB according to OM-BYs pagepool changer. As I did not flash it until now I have no idea about the total program memory, but I'm sure its not more than 100 MB because drivers are also needing RAM.

Well, I think most of us (more often the case) knows about the pagepool settings. Just did not understand why the 32MB pagepool is chosen (in standard rom and most cooked roms) which anyhow do not give much performance adge.
Because of 2 main reasons, I went to use Bepe 0.67 cooked rom
1. it's using 12MB pagepool, that means I get 101.46MB program memory, currently disabled BioTouch.exe and loaded in the Manila2D myself, get to obtain free memory of 62MB. Fresh restart I get about 69MB free memory. All programs seems to be running smoother. I can use the phone for many days without the need to restart, though it's a common thing for WinMobile .
2. in the latest official rom, and many other recent cooked roms, I could not run IGO8 (HDD version), which is the best GPS program I have for the country that I am in. And IGO8 needs a lot of memory to run -> reason for me to upgrade from Trinity.
And the worst news is, I tried so many pagepool editor (many versions etc), none seem to be working to bring up my program memory from 84.7MB

You are right, most of us should know about pagepool. But apparently the thread starter didn't know it thats why I was explaining it once again.
BTW: I downloaded Syrius R1 from UDK, its using 6 MB pagepool, same as HTC stock rom. But maybe OM-BY's pagepool changer can not handle polaris roms and shows an incorrect pagepool size.

I think for Polaris, 6MB pagepool means you will have 107MB program memory.
My Bepe 0.67 rom has 12MB pagepool and I get 101MB program memory. I really don't know where other missing memory goes, taking 128MB-12-?? = 101MB.
So it seems the reader you used to chk pagepool produced wrong information. That was what happen when I tried to use pagepool editor to reduce pagepool size.
But the program work fine on Trinity cooked rom.
guys,
i use M-Amine 2.0 RTM
and with alot of apps running, i have 37MB memory left
but honestly, i dont feel any different wether its 69MB or 37MB
in fact, i dont pay much attention on free memory and i dont realize that my program memory dropped to 84MB
maybe i'm just too exited with flashing new ROMs
I saw my version of Igo8 wouldn't launch if there is less than 45Mo Program memory left. But it launches even with .Net CEFramework V3.5 if it has 48-50 Mo left.
I guess the new build of Igo8 takes less RAM so it could be launched without desactivating M2D in today screen.
I use M-Amine 2.0 RTM.
Maybe Tabs removing in M2D could help freeing some ram too.
Hi,
Just few days ago, I had like 20 MB of free disk space, today its <1 MB. Already deleted all the temp files, etc. using software.
Any ideas? Is it possible to sort folders by size or do some other inspection, as it does that for files only.
- Install all your apps to Storage Card?
And if you download your apps through the Marketplace, get the new version of it which gives you the option of installing apps to Storage Card.
- Move pictures, documents to Storage Card.
- Delete unecessary MMS'es
- Email. Are attachments save to phone memory or storage card.
Hi, all pics, videos, mms, emails are deleted, most of the software is installed in storage card.

Hi, using official 1.66 ROM on Tele2 network (3G), noticed this issue when I was abroad (and was not installing any softwares or games, just surfing the net via Opera Mobile 10).
Flashlight, Gyrator, clearRam (or clean ram), incall lock, net 3.5, smartlock, skype (installed before went abroad, but into 1gb card) and swype, that's pretty much it.
I have also removed many items from start menu and noticed that HTC recreates some of the shortcuts (not sure if this is related or not) with blacnk icons, such as HTC Messages.

OK. Let's run with your configuration.
Firstly do you install to mem card or phone mem?
Secondly have you done a hard reset and fresh install of settings?
I currently run CleanEX HQ 2.32 Uni WWE ROM with 2.06.50.23_3 radio.
I have 30 apps showing in the start menu of which 10 were preinstalled with the ROM.
My base mem is as follows-
RAM 576 MB
ROM 512 MB
Storage 292.91 MB
System settings shows-
Storage
Total 292.91 MB (as above)
In use 89.30 MB
Free 203.61 MB
Program (RAM)
Total 453.78 MB (of the full available 576 MB)
In use 170.39 MB
Free 283.39 MB
I don't see any reason why yours should be significantly different, however, if it is there is definately some problem with some apps hogging resources.
And it appears to be occuring on the T-mobile US versions?
Very strange!
had this problem before when using dutty's old cook rom.. never solved the problem..
but I noticed if you open Total Comander.. you can check My Document folder that soething create a file name.... (I forgot) and it's HUUGE! I deleted it.. and the problem's gone..
But then it after sometime.. it create the file again..
using dutty 1.7 HG and smaberg's latetst and doesn't have that issue anymore.. weird..

Hi, checked now, Cache folder got some big files, like 15MB total, is it safe to delete all of them?
IC_C - 7.25M
PG_IC_C - 5.66M
thumb_caches - 3.13M
Other than that, there are like few thumbnails only, ~1mb total in usage.
--------------------------------
pa49, I have installed only Opera, Swype and maybe ArkSwitch into a phone memory, everything else is in card. I haven't tried hard reset or soft reset.
I have bought my phone from clove.co.uk without a contract, I believe it's not a T-Mobile version.
Could it be because of the start menu icons deletion? I have deleted HTC People, etc from there and those icons reappeared (but without an icon), so maybe HTC generates some kind of error whenever I open start menu? Is there any error_log location in HTC?
--------------------------------
zelduy, I have tried dutty but deleted it after few mins or so, haven't found any files larger than few KBs in my docs folder.
--------------------------------
P.S. Is there any way to access phone memory via PC? As when I connect USB, can only access memory card and not phone itself.
P.P.S. Is it possible to delete default sounds, as when I right click on such files, delete option is grayed out.
P.P.P.S Is there any disk space management software on WinMo which shows what files/folders consumes the most of disk space?

My laptop file manager shows the phone in the file tree and allows access to both storage card and internal storage. It just sees them as a drive. Even without WMDC running.
It's showing my installed app data, HTC cache as 1.75MB and 292 MB of free space.
i delete everything in the HTC ALBUM folder , its just temp files that appear to be created when using the album , any files that are needed get remade so its a quick way of saving some space
I have 2 hd2 phones, 1 has original - never flashed rom, the other I've flashed many times.
When I ran into this free space issue, I found that my phone showed only 190mb for the total size of the storage drive, the other, untouched phone showed 690mb total size.
Even after flashing many different roms, the storage drive on the rom I've been flashing was 190mb total size.
No free space of course.
So, what can resize the storage drive? any idea how this can be fixed?
What size do you see for total mb on the storage drive?
Maybe GoogleMaps Cachefile ?
You'll find it in \appdata.
Unless you install the app onto your storagecard, it'll spam your phone mainmemory...
I used a software called Quick System Info v1.5 to check my phone's information. But I got the information below.
Total internal storage: 186
Total memory: 186
That's very ridiculous, how can it be so little? Anything wrong with my phone?
Any help, Thanx very much.
??? 186 what? MB?

MB. The Advanced task manager tell me there is about 80Mb left as soon as I open my phone. Any idea about what happened?

I think that's normal...
It has 256 MB of RAM, and the OS and basic apps use part of it.
It also has 512 MB of ROM, which is internal memory used for apps.
If it's not enough I suggest installing a custom ROM with apps2sd and swapper enabled.

If I may, can you tell me about the ram and rom left when you just install a new rom? the information for now is also ok to me. So I can make a judgement. Thank you very much.
