I managed to follow the steps posted in this guide to root it and fix the perfected SPL problem. I installed a custom cooked ROM with Arabic support but had a problem with WiFi not working.
Now here comes the stupid mistake I made (I am a noob I know ). I installed this RUU file. It's Etisalat Official ROM. It has arabic support too but doesn't have google market. Gmail is also not working (WiFi and data services work, but gmail won't sign in).
The problem with that ROM is that the version is that I am back to a perfected SPL again. Only this time my ROM has version 2.56.494.7 which is a higher version than the Sappimg.zip (or Sappimg.nbh) files I used to root the Rogers ROM, so it fails to install. This is why I feel like a big noob installing the Etisalat ROM.
So what I need is a version of sappimg.nbh or sappimg.zip with higher version than 2.56.494.7 that doesn't have a perfected SPL or any help or tips to solve this problem in another way.

I have been searching all over the web and cannot seem to root my Magic. I have installed Windows XP now so some software and processes will work.
I have:
SAPPHIRE UNKNOWN 32B SHIP S-ON G
HBOOT-1.33.0007 (SAPP10000)
CPLD-10
RADIO-2.22.19.26I
Is there ANY way i can root? I am gutted that I have been looking all yesterday for a root and a keep on failing.

I have exactly the same phone/spec which I managed to root/flash CyanogenMod successfully.
I followed the following procedure to flush the "recovery" image and then you can put any ROM you like...
Google: "how to: root the magic in one click" from the Unlockr
You don't need to flash the SPL but if you do then the 1.33.2004 worked fine for me.

Anyway, I am going to send the 32B Vodafone HTC Magic back for a refund (YEAAAAH!!!) to buy a factory unlocked 32A HTC Magic!
but you need 1.5 and i am on 1.6 and have a perfect SPL

I think i've tried anything.
I have tried:
root in one click
goldcard
ANDROIDSDK
Can't remember wich one that does it, but when i'm in HBOOT and i try installing the sappIMG.zip it says:
Update fail!
Main version is older (or somthing like that)
And CMD (ANDROIDSDK) cant find my device, and i have made a goldcard.

unfortunately you are unable to root.. your spl is a perfected spl and no one has been able to figure out how to root it yet..
sorry my friend but you are stuck on the official rom until a solution is found...

I have : 32 A with perfect spl (0010 at end)

would be the official SenseUI if your phone is a 32A
if your phone is a 32B, i found no link how you can get the official rom without a perfect SPL
but if you install a update from www.htc.com, you will never be able to install another rom EVER....so pay attention

Ok, i understood, but i said that i actually have perfect spl with 32 A, so your tutorial would be well. Can you tell me if that tutorial needs root. And what version of android will i have after i will do this tutorial?
oops, i missed that sentence..but please post the full SPL version, there are perfect SPL's that can be fixed with a goldcard, and there is also a perfect SPL that cannot be upgraded...
also, i would suggest you a stable rom like SuperD, it's super fast and has nearly no bugs

Since I bought my HTC Magic (from Vodafone in Portugal) I updated it to a new official software version which is this:
SAPPHIRE PVT 32A SHIP S-ON H
HBOOT-1.76.0009 (SAPPP10000)
CPLD-12
RADIO 6.35.08.29
However, this is a perfect SPL. Now, I want to root and flash my mobile and I can't. I followed the steps in Rooting the SPL 1.76.0009 thread and got an error.
So, what I was asking is if any of you has any old official update of HTC (the ones which you update just by pressing next a few times on your PC and it does it all for you) that will downgrade my mobile to any previous version so that I could flash it from there.

i have to update my HTC Magic firmware 1.5 to newest version. I am new to all this stuff.
In thought, that after flashing a new Rom, that also the firmware would change. I flashed a Hero Rom and its functioning very well. I would like to keep this Rom if its possible.
But the Firmware version did not changed. I have been searching al around and found alot of articles leading me to your site. Somehow i couldnt find the correct howto to update only my firmware to the newest one. If someone of you Experts could lead me to the correct howto, to update only my firmware with the correct files would be very nice of you.
