I recently bought an official o2 mains charger for my exec. It works exactly as expected, except for one thing!
It's giving me an electric shock! A very mild one, but it's there. The metal part on the top of the exec is getting electrified when charging with the mains charger.
Does anyone else with the mains charger experience this? I only noticed it when I rubbed my finger across it, it felt more "textured" than usual.

It doesn't seem very normal to me... certainly not what you'd expect at least.
YES. I noticed it the first time i charged it up. I showed it to other people but they couldnt feel it. Now I know I am not alone. I wouldnt have said it was normal, but i have got used to it.

My m5000 does this too.
The easiest way to feel it is to softly stroke the metal pad on the lid with the case closed. It feels kinda nice, but is definately current.
My JasJar, IIs and my old Xda II also did this. But only those. Perhaps it's not earthed well?
Qtek 9000 has this too
You'll be surprised how many devices have this, actually. However, it shouldn't be of any concern - it's OK'd by law in most countries. Compare it, if you will, to one of those cheap halogen light desklamps ( http://www.lightwindow.com/desklamp/500/halogen/129bl.jpg ). The 12V goes straight through the telescoping metal tubing itself, and if you rub your fingers along one side while holding the other, you'll get the same sensation. That's why they often have a little warning label with them about not hanging any necklaces over them, or it will shortcircuit ( easily tested.. it just sparks a little, but I wouldn't recommend doing it ). The power rating for these lamps is *much* higher than for any pocket device. So although it's not particularly proper (non-conductive tubing with some retractable wires would be better - but oh-so-much more expensive to manufacture), it's part of the design, and nothing to worry about.
i had noticed it, but i didnt know what it was

Yes, it is true. There is a mild current along the top of the Jasjar.
wow... your first post... I'm honoured
No problem on my unit (Charmer). However, I've experienced this with other devices, an IBM Notebook (X series, bought 2003). It has a rubbery top (not metal), which give you a tickling feeling when you rub it with your sensitive skin (e.g. the skin under of your arm - wrist to elbow, the part where you do not get enough of sun light). I guess it is of a tolerance limit. I mean, if you try that on your VCD DVD player, I bet you will have the same problem too.
well that's certainly cleared that up.
Good to know it's not a faulty Exec.
I think its a "signature" of all HTC devices
I remember playing silly pranks on my xda2, where in i'd fake an incoming call when its plugged into the charger and hand it over to my friend (victim). The look on the face is worth a million! (i'm not sadistic as you're probably thinking right now, atleast not "as much"!)
the faceplate charge leak is really cool! I keep stroking it when i'm jobless. Its i guess a feature in many ways -
1. You dont have to hunt for the charging light indicator, just stroke the plate and you'd know if ur device is charging up
2. The phone call prank - priceless weapon!
3. An excellent window for passing time, stroking harmless current gives me a high! (oh yea, i'm kidding of course!)
All in all, i like the charge leak!

PS: Just got back from an extremely long and tiring business trip, hope my post has some relavence to the topic and makes sense in any remote manner
All of the devices which use a Switch mode power supply has it. It isn't a fault rather a design. This reason is that Switch Mode Powersupplies do not have a transformer which isolate the main 110/220 from the output.
You can also experience it if you have a computer with a metal casing (those white boxed computers)
There is however a method to minimize that shock effect. though it might not be possible with three pin adapters. Here we have two pinned adapters so just plugging it in the opposite direction make the shock go away.

lol.. I thought since you are writing in bold, it should be something.. good. Anyway, the only thing that I've notice that is right on your post is that, SMPower adapter does not have a transformer.
The isolation of the transformer doesn't stop the device from giving you a shock.
What do you mean by 'white boxed computers'? You mean those normal desktop, huh? I'm not sure about what's going on at your side, but we use 3 pin plugs here, and the 3rd pin is a ground line, which is the effective way of getting rid of electric shocks (e.g. it absorb the 'wild' current to ground, instead to you)
And the most funny thing is your last comment. You can make the shock away by flipping your two pin plug? What is the logic to that? There is a diode-like device in the adapter that will convert the current/voltage of your AC to DC. It doesn't matter how you connect your adapter, it will end up the same somewhere in the adapter way before it touches your device.
Anyway, surprisingly, for someone who doesn't seems to know electricity, you know what Switch Mode Power Supplies

Come on, maybe he meant the other other way, you know, with the pins pointing into the room rather than into the socket?
I bet that would stop the current leak!
I have no idea about anything electrical... but don't be too hard on ady. He was the one who decrypted bootloader 1.0 for the universal which is very useful to some of us... so he's acutally very smart! At least, he is at programming/hacking.
The $2400 is $21 on eBay and the Mugen is $80.
The Rafael obviously seems like the better deal. How can anyone justify an additional 600mAh for $60??
Has anyone used the Rafael and what kind of case did you get for your thicker phone?
Mugen 3000mAh
I'll bite; I sprung for the Mugen 3000mAh battery. I think it's great (it comes with it's own battery cover, and admittedly does make the phone significantly more bulky).
I'm not a typical user even for these forums. I routinely tether my laptop to my phone via bluetooth for laptop internet access (two thumbs up for unlimited data plans) and I actually get quite usable speeds (I'm using that setup right now). Plus, I can send and receive calls at the same time. Also, I've got two accounts in the Pocket Outlook, and I've got Flexmail 4 with about 6 or 7 email accounts that sync throughout the day. In addition to that, I use spreadsheets and word documents on it as well as voice calls. So, frankly, I'll take all the power I can get!
When I take it to the gym, I use my Seideio (sp?) 2000mAh battery because it's a lot slimmer and does great with by bluetooth headphones (and I use it as an mp3 player; I'm not one of those types that talks on their phone the entire time they're supposed to be "working out"!).
So if you have to have all the power you can get, like I do, it's not that big of a sacrifice in size for the extra 600mAh. It does make a difference late in the day. Just my $0.02 though.
Good stuff BPB21.
What kind of case do you use for the 3000, if any at all?
Thanks for your help.
Cases
That's an interesting question. Typically I just keep it in my coat pocket at work, or pants pocket otherwise without a case. I've got one of those "Invisible Shield" screen protectors that has protected it even from my cat's claws (touch screen wasn't meant for cats, but no harm done). So typically I don't use a case.
However, I was just looking for some kind of waterproof case, I mean completely waterproof, for when I potentially go rafting and/or rock climbing. I can't vouch for any yet, but I've heard good things about the "Otterbox" cases. I don't plan on actually using the device while in the water of course, but it might be necessary to keep it with me. I'm kinda compulsive about that with my phones. So, as for cases, that remains to be seen. I think the Seidio 2000mAh battery would fit most anything (I don't know about the 2400mAh, but I'm sure I'll own one soon) as it really doesn't add much size at all to the phone. As for the Mugen 3000 mAh, well, I don't know what that would fit in. That battery and case make the phone a total of one inch thick the entire length of the phone. The Seidio battery and cover only add about 1/8th inch thickness in a 1&1/2" width and 1&1/4th" length on the back of the phone.
Anyway, if I find something good I'll post here; but for everyday use just the screen protector works well enough for me.
IF anyone has any suggestions for this battery and a case, i'd be grateful and interested as well. the stock cover that comes from mugen is crap with a capital C. it keeps sliding off.
I 2nd that...
This is true; it is really easy to knock the Mugen cover off. The one saving grace about that cover's design is that even if the cover comes loose you don't necessarily take the battery with it (at least in my experience). I would be interested if anyone can find a cover that fits the 3000 mAh battery. (I mean, other than the submersible Otterbox cases - those fit, but you can't really use the device...)
The phone (with a standard battery fitted) just fits into an otterbox 1000, which is the cheapest one they do. I got the transparent one but the phone screen is obscured. I keep it in the box whilst I work outside, with a waterproof bluetooth headset. It's a tough box.

I've actually taken the phone skiing (well, I didn't buy it a lift ticket or anything). It was in my ski jacket pocket (and I tend to do runs more advanced than I am) and despite my sometimes dramatic falls the phone held up well. So it's a pretty durable device, but I wouldn't do that every day with it.
Speaking of that Otterbox - I was looking at the same thing and trying to measure it from the given inside dimensions. Which way does it just barely fit: length, width, or thickness? I would think the phone would be just a bit too long for the case, but hopefully not? And then, if I had the Seidio 2000mAh battery (which adds maybe 1/8" thickness, if that) installed would that fit as well?
Otterbox 1900
Hi. I own an otterbox 1900. I´ve used it a lot with my Axim and after that with my Eten m700. I took it rafting, dirt biking on the mountains and snowboarding many times. You can charge the device while in the box, and use the device while keeping it protected by a clear rubber membrane.
The Fuze fits easy inside, but I have the stock cover and battery.

I bought one, I have it and it makes your phone look like a brick. hey, the Battery will last days but it is just Huge.
Big batteries
I've got the 3000mAh battery (by the way, I saw the 2400mAh battery on eBay; how does its size compare with the 3000mAh battery?). I use my phone heavily, all day. I'll connect it with my laptop via bluetooth to use internet sharing, sometimes I'll be talking on the phone at the same time, and I heavily use email on the phone, plus Word and Excel files and internet browsing, plus occassional testing and configuring of wifi routers using the phone's wifi, all on a given day. I'm not always near a charger so for me I need all the power I can get, even if it is only an extra 600mAh.
On the other hand, people routinely ask me "what is thbat?" (or more accurately, "what the hell is that?") when they see my brick of a phone. So yeah, it does make it quite bulky compared to even the 2000mAh battery. But if you're a power user and need all the extra you can get then it is worth it.
I complained to the guys at nakedcellphone.com and the guy sent me a new cover for the Mugen battery, have to say, amazing service. I should have given them kudos weeks ago. The new cover for the Mugen does NOT slide off and is very good.
Now, I need a hard case for this thing. Anyone know of a place I can get one?

How is the new cover different? Shaped differently or just fits more snugly, or both? I got mine from them, and it may be too late for me to complain since I've had it for a while now, but do you think they'd send me one if I asked? I'd even pay for it (not $60 or howevermuch, but some) if the cover is that good.
The best "hard case" I've found is by Otterbox, but I don't think that's the kind you've got in mind.
Let me know the details on that different Mugen battery cover; I could use that.

I also saw that Mugen battery and drooled, but for $100... Amazon.com has a Cameron Sino 2400mAh battery for $20... 3000mAh is probably more a custom item to begin with, but a 600mAh increase for only $80?
I've used Cameron Sino batteries before -- never had a problem.
Good replacement case cover as well - it doesn't fall off...

First of all, this isn't a "why I don't like the Xoom" post. Actually, there is a lot that I do really like about the Xoom, and I'm optimistic that once Flash, 4G, and a few more Honeycomb-optimized apps come to the device, it will be a very capable device.
The reason I'm posting here is that I purchased the Xoom online from Verizon when it first came out, but there were a few things that bothered me enough about it that I returned it after about a week to make sure that I didn't land outside the return window. I have however, been considering buying another one, this time directly from the Verizon store so I can spend a little more time with it to determine if I like it enough to justify the $800 expenditure. So, I wanted to post my major nits with the product here to see if others have found them to be not as much of an issue or had found workarounds that solve some of these problems. I know there have been other posts about many of these problems, but I was hoping to get some fresh perspective now that the device has been out and in people's hands for a little longer.
Here's what is keeping me from going out and buying another Xoom right now.
1. I didn't like the display. On auto-brightness, it seemed like it was always too dark, and even the maximum manual brightness setting it still wasn't bright enough to overcome the glare that the screen attracted when I was sitting by a window or near a lamp. I felt like I was always struggling to see what was on the screen, even when indoors. Has anyone had luck solving this with, for example, an anti-glare screen protector? Or was this something that you adjusted to and found to be less of an issue over time?
2. The portfolio case, though serviceable, was unattractive and clunky, but I didn't like the lack of screen protection on the gel case. Is the gel case maybe worth another look, or are there any third party cases in the works that look promising?
3. It can't charge via USB, and the power adapter is a little larger than something I would like to have tucked in my bag all the time. How do you keep your Xoom charged on the go? Do you find that the advantage of being able to charge the Xoom quickly makes up for the fact that it can't be charged by a universal mini-usb?
Anyway, thanks for taking the time to read this. It turned out a little longer than I had originally intended. Looking forward to your feedback.

1. I agree with the auto brightness. I turned this off and keep the brightness at 75%. I added Zagg invisibleshield and it has significantly reduced glare, fingerprints and smudges. I am happy.
2. I ordered this but it has not arrived yet: http://www.zoogue.com/shop/#xoom-zoogue-case-genius I am currently using the Moto gel case and it works for now.
3. I haven't had an issue with the charger. It charges very fast and the battery life is very good.
I love my xoom, though i don't see a lot of resolution for you on these issues.
1. I love the display, agreed it's hard to see in bright light (but this to me is normal).
2. I like the portfolio case and use it constantly.
3. For me the lack of usb chargning is fine, as the default charger charges so fast and my battary lasts me all day. I can charge from empty to full in less then two hours and get at least a good 12 hour day of off again on again usage.
Hope this helps.
same here.
i turned of auto brightness and the screen is great for me now.
haven't put a case on it (waiting for a good one to come out).
i left the shipping cover plastic on the screen until i decide on what screen protector i am going to use.
no usb charging was not a deal breaker for me as it has been noted before that the charge time is fast and the use time is high.
1. I use mine on a bus and outside and haven't really had a problem with brightness, the glare is a killer though. Inside, at night when using the kindle app, I'd like to turn down the brightness. I picked up the Steinheil screen protectors (matte) and it really cut down on the fingerprint smudges and glare. Yea, the screen isn't as crisp as without the protector, but the smudges ruined it anyway. I took auto brightness off but keep the display turned down.
2. I haven't seen any third party case even for the ipad that I really like. The portfolio from Motorola is the best I've seen so far and I'm really disappointed. It needs to have a typing position, maybe 20-30% incline.
3. I would have liked a mini usb charger. I'll probably get a second one but by charging it at night I have more than enough juice to get through a day.
Motorola had a $100 off coupon floating around and the wifi models are being released at the end of this month which should be less expensive.

I have a Zoogue iPad case and have used it for the past 8 months. It is amazing and has held up perfectly. It is an awesome case especially if you intend to watch a fair bit of videos with your tablet. Maybe not the prettiest case around, but it protects the hell out of the tablet and not only allows you any angle of incline, but also a very sturdy base so that it wont go tipping over if you tap the tablet too hard.
I agree with most people here.
1. Forget the auto brightness. It's useless.
2. I really want the zoogue case, let me know how it is. I'm ok with the portfolio case. It's definitely grown on me. I have two big issues with it though: lack of a 30-degree angle for tabletop use, but i've gotten used to the "low angle", and no charging while closed. someone in the accessories forum suggested punching a hole with a punch meant for making holes in a belt and it worked like a charm (hint: try asking your dry cleaner/alternation shop if you can use theirs, that way I didn't have to buy one). Looks like it almost was meant to be there.
3. I would have liked the 'option' of a mirco usb charger, but honestly, I use it every day at work unplug in the morning, use at home after dinner and plug in at night, and have never had an issue. I even went away for the weekend (sat morn to sunday night) and brought my charger, but i never charged it. I dont see it as an issue.

1 - I operate my device on auto brightness pretty much all the time, the only exception to this is when QuickPic fires up because it ramps it to 100%. I have found that in most normal operating environments I can see the screen perfectly. I am not outdoors with it very often but I know what you are talking about because it is difficult to see under direct or even semi direct sunlight.
2 - I'm going to buy a gel case right now, I already own the protective case. I want to try them both and figure that I'll use the Gel case around the house and the protective case out at work.
3 - There is a car charger, but I am unaware of a more compact Xoom charger.
Thanks to everyone who has commented so far. I'm leaning strongly towards giving the Xoom another shot, although I might wait until they start shipping with 4G, so I don't have to send it back to Moto for a week for the upgrade.

I found the xoom's ability to charge quickly makes up for the lack of usb charging. additionally, when in a car traveling long distances, i can hook up the charger to a power generator i bought for the car that easily hooks up to the lighter port.
I'm going to wait it out, and try and get the samsung tablet 10.1 coming out in about a month.
I too use auto brightness all the time, but maybe I live in a dark existence.
I use the gel case all the time, and no screen protector. When I take it with me, its in my protective net book sleeve in my backpack so I'm not really worried about the screen. If I start to hear complaints here about screen issues (other than the gym bag guy) I may seek better protection.
I don't find the charging to be an issue as the battery lasts a long time. I think the car charger (<$30) is a good idea if you are gonna be in the car for even 15 minutes or so. If you can hook up the standard dock someplace in your car you can charge it and play audio from itnto the aux port on your stereo if you have one...

Very much so; it charges it so fast and the battery life is so good I just don't worry about it any more. I might get a car charger for the times I can't get home in time, once they get 2nd-sourced (to save money) but so far, so good.
I suffer under no delusions that a device like this will be viewable in direct lighting (including sunlight). I pretty much assumed going in that I'd still be using my classic Nook with e-ink for reading outside...
i bought one and I returned it because of the same issues. Then I bought my wife an I pad 2 and i tested it for a few day and I
notice the xoom is so fast and you not handcuffed to apple products that I went and bought the xoom again and this time I'm keeping it.
I upgraded to the Evo Shift from the Touch Pro 2, and found out that the batter from the TP2 fits in the Evo Shift (flipped) and actually gives me better battery life. Interesting find I thought I would share just in case anyone else upgraded the same way.
I also came for the rhodium don't you miss the keyboard and the keyboard of that phone? But then again the speedness elevates that out

don't get me started haha. I think the biggest thing I miss is the spacious keyboard and definitely the dedicated number row. The speed makes up for it and the touch keyboard works better on this phone for me too.
It fits in your phone without any modifications?
Yes, TP2 batteries fit the shift w/o modification. You can't go the other way around, though, because the Shift (and similar new) batteries have extra notches on one side that prevent them from fitting the TP2.

Isn't the stock TP2 battery 1500mAh as well? How is that an improvement?
The only one I think would actually be an improvement is http://www.amazon.com/HTC-Extended-Li-Ion-Battery-RHOD170/dp/B002Y24MJ2
which is 2150mAh but it looks a lot fatter than our battery.
I never claimed it was an improvement, OP did. I was just answering your question about whether it fits. I don't believe there is an extended battery door yet for the Shift. If Seidio feels demand is high enough, they may create one.

It won't work. If you look at the picture, notice the contacts. If you flip the battery, the terminals on the phone won't make contact with the battery terminals. If the battery terminals were the width of the battery, it would work. Good luck with making a cover.

Their site says coming soon.
I came from the HeroC. Its battery works in the Shift too. Very convenient, though certainly no improvement when you swap one 1500mAh for another... unless you got a bad battery with your new phone.
Sorry didn't mean to accuse you. I just blindly pressed the reply button near the bottom. I guess it quoted you. I'm not used to browsing xda from my laptop haha.

I got it to fit the other way around, just have to give it a little 'push'.
My mom has a tp2 and I wanted to try it ^^ so we switched batteries for a day and it was about the same.
My battery on TP2 worked better for me, not sure how or why. And as stated it fits u flip it over and it makes contact. I looked on Sprint's site, they sell a battery that claims to fit a few Android phones including the shift and tp2.

After coming from the original EVO I've been so happy with the stock battery life that I haven't seen a need to play around with other batteries. This thing lasts all day easily so that's good enough for me.

LOL no worries. That's why I put in the smiley. Was just having some fun.
Back to a general comment, the problem with "spare" 1500mah batteries for the Shift is that the back is so hard to get on/off, I can't really see myself carrying a spare and swapping it out like I used to do on other phones. I would definitely consider an extended battery (real extended, as in physically larger, not one of those fake "it's got higher capacity but same size" things). But unless the phone is really popular, you often only get one option for an extended battery and it turns your phone into the 21st-century equivalent of a bag phone. If the phone started as thin as the EVO it might be less of a trade-off, but with the keyboard it's already about as thick as I'd like it to be.

agreed, OP here and I must admit I thought it was awesome to have a spare.. but in the end, its just another batter most of the time. I hate taking the back off, I feel like its going to break.
Somebody posted a mugen 3600mah battery link from ebay in the accessories subforum here. Sounds pretty huge, but it's an option.
Hello everyone!
I have looked in both Amazon and eBay and can't seem to find this but do you guys know if there is a battery bank case out there to add more battery on our phones? I have regular battery banks but sometimes it is just more convenient to have a battery that is attached to your phone. If not I think I might just need to get some velcro and a slim battery bank.
Welp, after contacting the major folks: zerolemon, mophie and Motorola they said that they didn't have any plans to make one. I had to get some velcro and make my OWN Moto mods! The left is my Moto g4 plus and to the right is my work iPhone 6s with a real battery case.
can you make this one for me?or tell me how to do?

He used velcro tape as he mentioned, it's only to tighten the power bank on the back cover. BTW, the method is cool and looks like a bomb

What strongst said. Below are the parts that you see in the picture. I can't put links yet I don't think.
Case: Incipio DualPro Case [will work with any case or even without one really]
Battery Bank: RAVPower 6700mah Palm Sized Portable Charger Power Bank (2.4A Output & 2A Input, iSmart 2.0 Technology) [I like this one because it provides faster charging which works for our phones and also is a nice handle with this velcro tape]
Velcro tape: Can be bought anywhere, I used the fuzzy side on the phone and the prickly side on the battery bank just because I hold the phone more.
@strongst - Thanks! Yes it does and people look at me weird when I use it. But when I am getting over 2 days battery life and 8-10 hours playing Pokemon Go! I can't complain.
If there is a manufacturer that is willing to make a decent battery case for us I will probably be one of the first ones to jump on it. I have one for my work phone and I don't mind the added weight it brings because I get decent added battery life on it. But I think with budget phones like ours chances are low that someone like ZeroLemon will make one for us.
Opps just broke charge port trying to carry this in pocket.
Easier to get a spare phone on another network than these idiot anker cases. I will be looking hard for a swapping battery phone next time. In safe mode I can only get 1/2 a work day. Which is about 14 to 15 hours.
