So, it seems the new official upgrades brought more bugs and annoyances than fixes.
Are there any news about upcoming upgrades with the latest Winmo 6.5.1? (so you have an option to actually move icons around, not just send them to top)

Hi there,
im currently running the O2 WWE 1.5.4.2. Is there a newer rom than this by O2 and if so do you think its worth the upgrade. If there is not a newer one, what would you recommend, if any, to upgrade to?
I'm still using the shipped O2 ROM on my Mini S and I don't have any complaints yet (as of a months use so far). I used personal mode and turned off the O2 UI rubbish (remove from startup folder) and I have made use of some of the various tweaks you'll be able to find in these forums.
I got Tomtom running eventually but it did take a lot of fiddling! Other apps seem to install without a problem though.
In short, I'd stick with it and apply some tweaks like the program cache, cleartype for landscape, enable .11g etc. Someone has bundled them all into a cab file in another thread here that's always near the top. Enjoy!
Cheers,
Gadget
ROM upgrades have still a long way to go ... still much tweakings and bugfixes. My adwise is only to upgrade if your device really starts to behave buggy.
When there comes out a real stable ROM ... then you can do a ROM upgrade.
only .. my opinions ..
Hi all,
Just after some advice.
I am useing dcd 3.4.3 and am enjoying it.
However, I kinda want to try something new. What is the best wm 6.5 rom out and why?
Hey there. Best 6.5 ROM? That's a matter of opinion. As far as stability is concerned, builds 21501 and 23017 lead the way. 23025 was the most recent build that I tried and it was hard to use. Windows moved the start menu icon and the "X" to the bottom. The GUI was either not user friendly or the version that I used was not made for our native resolution. I was unable to scroll far enough down in the notifications interface to be able to disable vibrate.
Tbonebtone has a nice light 6.5rom posted here in the Titan forum. R.Mogul makes a couple also, but I have never tried them and he uses a very early build.
I have been looking forward to trying the newer builds. I'm sure you have seen the more complete looking graphics and reskinned keyboards that are available in builds 23036 and 37. I am actually trying to familiarize myself with Ervius Visual Kitchen and Porting Tools just so I can try some of these newest builds. Seems support for the Titan device has really died in the past few months.
Hi there,
Thanks for the tip. i will give those to builds a go and report back. If you have anymore info on the latest ones that would be great.

I should have more info on newer builds this weekend. The family is out of town and I have little better to do tomorrow.
In my search on how to accurately update my kitchen for unsupported builds, I came across this thread. It seems that this gentleman is updating us with new roms and providing us with the newest .nbh files. Of course, these are his ROMs, so he added his splash screens that say "WM7"... not sure why??, some games, etc. The buttons on the dialer are transparent with white font, so a darker bg is a must. Also he included the "honeycomb" start menu. Some people like it, but its not for me. Overall, despite the aforementioned, this rom seems stable and boots at a lovely 25.4 mb.

I see many ROMS around based on this version of windows that has a huge bar on the bottom with the windows logo and a couple of buttons. I reckon this is a more recent version of windows than the one shipped with the HD2.
My question is the following: is it possible to have these newer versions of windows but to somehow change the bottom bar back to what it looked like in the original windows shipped with the phone?
It's not necessarily more recent, just a different branch of development. Build 21892(old user-interface) is about the same age as 23534(new user-interface). That said, it would seem that the new UI is the future, though. There are also some features that are only present in the 23xxx branch for now, like threaded e-mail.
If you want newer version of Windows Mobile but don't like the new look, avoid ROMs based on builds 23xxx, 24xxx and (if I'm not mistaken) 28xxx.

Yep, with the help of a theme you can change the bottom-bar style. One theme that changes the bottom-bar to the old look is "Livven SimpleGloss Black"-plain toolbar and softkeys: look for it here.
(Notice however that the theme doesn't change the height of the toolbar. I don't believe any theme can do this).
EDIT: I've attached the right cab, so you don't have to delve your way through all the variantions of the above mentioned theme.
that is very helpful! do you also know if it is possible to get rid of the windows icon? i have a windows hard key in my phone i don't think i need the soft key

Maybe someone has made such a theme, don't know. But I think that one can only hide the windows button. I think it isn't possible to reposition the right menu soft key.
BTW, why don't you stick to a WM 6.5 build rom if you hate the toolbar so much. For me the only advantage of WM 6.5.x is precisely the new toolbar. The other advantage of the new builds is threaded emails (but i don't use that)
I have heard that it's faster but i don't know how reliable that information was

O, it is faster. But for me faster on the HD2 is like seeing a real fast sportwagon passing by but then a little bit faster, or sitting in a real fast train that is going a bit harder. I hardly notice the speed-gain. But that's subjective.
Hi everyone,
the WM 6.5.3 stock ROM on my X2 is driving me nuts.
Does anyone know if there ever was a stock ROM with WM 6.5.1 available - you know, the one with the Windows flag / Start button on the TOP left instead of BOTTOM left?
SE customer service says the X2 is only shipped with a 6.5.3 ROM, but I've seen demos (on Youtube) that definitely had a 6.5.1 ROM on. I realise these might be early units, so I'm wondering if the X2 was actually ever shipped with a 6.5.1 ROM.
Maybe I should add that I'm looking for German stock ROMs...
Thanks,
N.
Heres the problem, you can't reverse the flashing. No one has ever reversed flashed. So this isn't possible, sorry.
I was just going to ask if you'd swap devices ...
Haha I can't do that......
