Google Wave - Hero, G2 Touch General

Is anyone here using Google Wave on your Hero?
Is it just me or does it really takes a few minutes to load? Opening each wave takes quite some time... Is there something I can do about? (I'm using unrooted Hero and oppening site with default browser).
Thanks.

I can't open it at all. It says not suported browser :/

there's a link below that "not supported browser" that offers you to continue anyway at your own peril
however, it's slow, tortures Hero, but then again, my Macbook Pro froze from Wave since it only has 2GB RAM, on my Vaio i got a 2.2GB RAM in use, of which 980 was Safari with Wave (Win7, not Vista)....so, Wave is a RAM hungry monster that makes serious laptops uncomfortable, no way is it ready for mobile browsing :?
i think Google should have waited and released it when it became Beta, not Alfa v1.0

So...it says it's not supported and that continuing is pretty much at your own risk...and people are wondering why it's not working? Just making sure I'm clear...

Yes. I know it sounds funny.
But Hero (or better yet, mobile devices) uses a 'mobile' version of site that should be at least semi-usable.
Did anyone test it on Opera Mobile or other browser?

It's fairly usable for me once everything's loaded (including the Wave you wanna edit).
On my netbook I have no trouble, and it has 1GB of RAM, so to the guy on a laptop something else is obviously wrong.

Google Wave is... a disappointment
Also, I really doubt it'll run on Hero unless theres a specific app for it.

i used for a little while Dolphin Browser..it's a great app..with tabs and favorite sites and many other features..you should try it...i was using the browser for reading newspapers and other stuff... but now i installed a RSS reader...

i think it depends on the size/amount of active waves....i had 2 imported ones that were huge, 200 people each, god knows how many blips....killing those did settle the problem, but it still says Alfa is not something you should release to "general public" :/

I bet there will be a google wave app for android

Time to leave???

I have appriciated all the help over time here but been doing alot of considering and talking to verizon rep. and alot of posting and looking over at crackberry and think its time to give up on windows and get the new blackberry storm this friday! that thing is sweet and does all i need plus some. my main things are internet and media
i just flashed to dcd's latest 2 days ago but this thing still gets meto mad with the memory issues running movies andso much more.
the new stormhas somuch to offer, larger screen, way more rom memory, 1gb storage with 16gb micro card (comes with 8gb) and so much more
But the BB Storm has no wifi, no flash support, no tabbed browsing. Those are deal breakers right there....and also only 192MB of RAM, nuff said.

Decision is yours obviously, so I am not trying to talk you out of it, but you are trying to compare apples and applesauce. The Titan is an apple that can be customized to be everything from apple juice to an apple pie. The storm will only ever be applesauce. Sure it looks more refined but it has no customization ability and cant really be improved. Good luck in your decision, but I would never have a crackberry, especially with a Touch pro in my hand.

Applesauce. Nice!
Feel free to try it out.
and you cannot sync email. Like with an exchange server. They only go via blackberry. I would also recomend against it. Go with the HTC Touch Pro/Diamond. Or something else like that. Or iPhone with AT&T. Blackberry is only if your work requires it.
I do tell all of my frinds that are less technically skilled that they are probably better of with a BB.
That way I can continue to dazzle them.

you have a bad phone obviously, or having user-specific issue, and going to giv eup on windows mobile? lol....my 6800 works flawlessly everyday, with data and calls. I have everything I could possibly want on a 4gb card, I run my multi-messenger client (agile) all day pretty much, constatly IMing people, even while I am driving (probably not safe, but still cool), am able to browse the net, play games, I get a GPS fix with TomTom 7 in 30 seconds or less, etc...I mean the only thing my 6800 doesn't do, is wash my clothes for me, lol. Plus, it runs fast, and no memory problems.
Plus, all your email has to go through a blackberry email, so everything is relayed, and not truly using your email server...Blackberry server basically have a copy of every single email communication u make now...not only is that unsecure, but totally worthless...my 6800 on Windows Mobile connected DIRECTLY to my mail server, no intermediary email account neccesary.
Technically ignorant
I would also have to agree with worwig. We should not try to talk people out of buying devices like blackberry and the iphone because there is no point in hooking them up with a windows mobile device because they will never be able to tap into its potential. You guys have to remember in here we are the select few. Most people are retarded and look at devices like our titans and go, "oh this is definitely no iphone." And they will never understand why intellectual people will never go for devices such as these. Just let them live in their cloud of ignorance and let us live in clarity.

Yeah, I was shaking my head for weeks when the iPhone was first announced. People were like "Wow, look at all the new features Apple invented." the first few times I showed them my WM phone, and they were like...That's old, the iPhone is all new! I said "Yeah the case is now and interface, but not the technology" They would say "Yeah, but you can make calls, browse the net, text and use GPS all from the same device" - to which I responded "I can do all those things, plus I don't have to pay for GPS, and I have Word, Excel, unlimited email, IR beam, internet sharing, ettc etc...."
Yeah, u just can't convince them. They have blinders on thinking Apple saved the world, when all it did was put old technology into a shinny wrapper.

I was thinking flies and a cow field.
But seriously, I found that I can do a huge amount of work on my WinMo phone. But some of it falls outside the built in functions, and there are few people that I know that I would even think about trying to get to do the non-standard setup. But on the other hand, I like the large amoutn of customization.
I mean, on my desktop today screen, I have the temperature AT MY HOUSE from my personal weather station and a constantly updated webcam picture of my driveway. I know how to do that on WinMo, but anything else? And more then once I have shared my connection using WMWiFiRouter. A lot of people couldn't set that up.

HTC Magic - worth getting?

Hi all,
I'm normally found (every so often) in the Xperia section (current handset ofc). I have another mobile contract which is coming to an end and have been intrigued by the Magic. I got to play with one today and was pretty impressed (although the GPS was quite a bit off in Google Maps) - the form factor and the fact it is so light was a big plus. The screen was responsive and very clear.
So I guess my question is how have you guys found it in a slightly longer term perspective?
What is the marketplace like and are there a lot of useful apps worth getting?
What is the browsing experience like?
How is the GPS (i.e. accuracy and time to lock)?
How are the media capabilities (namely music and video)? And does anyone use stereo bluetooth headsets with it?
And lastly how good is the contact management/calendar management? Can you get upcoming appointments/reminders to show on the home screen? How many Google calendars can you sync?
Thanks to all who reply!
Fuzzmo.
I guess from the non-replies - No!
I love My g1 dont have the magic hasnt come out in the state yet. the 1.5 update for the g1 is awesome so im guessing the magic is amazing.
Quite a nice phone, but i might send mine back. No sync with Outlook. WTF? This is to force us to use Google products instead.....
Hmmm.... no tar
Shame
no replies cos its a strange question to ask in a magic forum..... android is so much better than WM its not funny- i came to android from a WM phone and it is total daylight between the 2. I had a HTC Touch HD for a couple of weeks, and while the screen looks nice the sensistivity of the screen is terrible compared with the capacitive screen android uses. WM is slow as well.
Magic is definitely worth it- there are so many android phones coming out this year apparently so there will be a lot to choose from by the end of the year...
oh yeah, no Music download store.....

How do they expect to compete when the most simple essential thing like syncing can't be done? Even my old SE k750 for 6 years ago could sync my contacts and calendar on Outlook.
I've tried the app too but it doesn't work. I understand this is only affecting the Vodafone branded Magic.
Thanks for the tip though..

How can you say its looking good when all we have to go on at the moment are rumours based on thin air of what we think it might be. And what some creepy old guy who reviews phones said, but he didn't really reveal anything.
But I'm unsure whether to get an iPhone, if the next one is a massive improvment and brings something awesome to the table I might get it. Otherwise I'm getting the Magic.
Just my predictions for the next iPhone....A higher resolution screen, possibly OLED, more RAM, 32GB version, bluetooth which can transfer files not just a headset, bigger battery, thinner phone. That said, I think the Samsung i7500 (android phone) will be able to beat it on all points except RAM.

Froyo around the corner:-)

http://www.amobil.no/artikler/android_2_2_til_galaxy_s_rett_rundt_hjornet/78810
This was an artical on a norwegian mobile site
This summer, it was said that Android 2.2 version of the Galaxy S probably would get an official version in September. September is known as the passed, but the update is now just around the corner.
- We have estimated the deployment in mid-October, and hopefully the update will reach users during the next week, "said Stig Ove Langø, major account manager in Samsung Norway.
Your phone is much faster
Android OS 2.2, also called Froyo, is a major update. Some of the highlights:
The browser has been quicker to load sites with Javascrip
Applications will load two to five times faster that everything does not have to be before you start, but it all happen on the way
Processor performance of the phone in general should be better
Memory handling must be very much faster.
Exchange support is greatly improved
The phone can function as Wi-Fi router
In addition, there are a lot of other things that have changed when it comes to user interface. The full list can look at the Android development page.
Great

Ah, that's good news. amobil.no are usually more dependable than any operator. So this might just be the right deal...
it depends where the corner is...
i think is near too.
Samsung just tweeted this:

We’re very sorry about the delay with the release of Froyo. We're working on it round the clock & will post an update as soon as we have one
They like to tweet something like that every other week to make us think it's nearby. All we can do is wait.
hey tweeted that on the 8th i believe, and probably re-tweeted it again
i hope to god its just round the corner, im not moaning believe me, i moaned a hell of alot more with my hero and the delays for 2.1
GPS best be fixed, as no matter what rom i have flashed, it takes an age to lock on, and when it does at best im about 100 metres away from where i actually am
The filesystem is shocking also
all in all though, i love the music player, samsung always get that bit right
that gps problems is a hardware problem some guy who sended his phone back got a new antenna(different material) in it and then it worked fine! its with the first batch of phones. i got a phone that came with jm2 instead of fp3 from when i got it right out of the box and my phone is good and acurate on gps quick fix and very accurate 5-10 meters
Its a software problem with the GPS. i get 5-10 meters accuracy too. But when i slow down everything went jumping around... locking is not a problem for me. Its only that it cant rly lock me to one place. So i guess its a software problem
yea its jumping a little i just noticed in a gps monitoring program but it keeps locked on (rarely they go all gray for a sec but then its back again)(gives no problems in actual navigation) here and while driving and navigating in car with sygic mobile maps it never looses track

FroYo better be good or I'm selling and getting WP7. Although I was against it from the start its shaping up to better than Android.
I love Android but its not polished as an OS yet. It really isn't. Samsung's AWFUL software department doesn't help either.

So because Android still has a few quirks to sort out and needs some polish here and there, you're considering jumping to a spanking new, "fully rewritten" platform?
Among the features that are not yet present are cut, copy, and paste, full multitasking
[...]
Support for removable SD cards and tethering have also been left out of the OS. Microsoft claims this to be in the interest of data security for enterprise users. Windows Phone 7 will also not support Silverlight in the web browser or IPsec virtual private network (VPN) security, videocalling, a system-wide file manager, Bluetooth file transfers, and music player equalizers.

http://pocketnow.com/android/motorola-atrix-dock-150-available-first-at-best-buy
Cheaper than i thought.
wow. that's great news! Much cheaper than I thought..I was expecting it to be in the $200-250 range. Now the only question is how much this phone will cost outright (no contract) .....
was bout to post this
this is really good news
I'm guessing some of the price will be offset by the actual handset price. I hope but doubt it will be the standard pricing that we are use to, probably $100 more I'm guessing.
Price makes sense really considering the laptop dock is just a screen, keyboard and trackpad. No expensive internals to worry about, the Atrix has that covered
since the laptop dock got no cpu or other hardwares.
can i run webtop OS on phone screen? i want my streaming stock quotes or level II quote running on java applets!
much better then i thought
Considering the Atrix has enough power to run Windows 7, if they can get it to THAT in the dock, it'll be perfect. And if it can't? Still worth it, I'll totally buy it. As of this moment, I can't see myself buying anything else.

Good point, though two things:
- Windows 8 will run on ARM, and it'd take almost as long to hack and truly pimp out this laptop dock as it will to see a beta of Windows 8
- The rumors of an ARM version of Windows 7 have been gaining steam rapidly lately. Considering netbooks with less power than the Atrix have run it, the possibility is there.

Citrix, at least what we use at work, suffers from poor latency issues, and a few other bugs. For what we use it for, it really sucks. I'll ask one of our IT guys tomorrow and get some more details. We could be running an old version, or old hardware. When we talked about expansion, we were told point blank that we couldn't do it with Citrix. And that was some pretty simple stuff we wanted...

I'd be really happy, If I could install Android Honeycomb and use it in Webtop mode (in Laptop Dock). Maybe it'd need synchronization between apllications from Atrix Android and Webtop mode Android. It'd be pretty, pretty cool.

Even more logical would be to have the device simply be running Honeycomb, and use the new Honeycomb UI when attached to a large screen, and the standard phone UI for the small screen. Then there wouldn't even need to be any synchronization, it would all just be android apps. But you would maybe need to tweak the Honeycomb UI to be workable for mouse/keyboard and/or the IR remote instead of multitouch; that might be why Motorola didn't wait for Honeycomb and go for that approach.
Rastor, thanks for that! We're probably on a very old version then lol. Nothing we oo with Citrix is anywhere near that fast. And it's nothing to do with connection speed, because our connection is top of the line. I'm quite impressed after that video. Thanks!

It's really good software that costs an arm and a leg. Over $900 dollars for the licenses, and I think that's just 5 licenses. :/
I wish there was an equally as good alternative for windows, for significantly cheaper.

I have to apologize. I talked to a couple IT guys yesterday, and they told me our issue with Citrix was old hardware. We updated those servers not too long ago, and I got to play with it (usually not something I have to do). Looks to me like it will work quite well for remote access. My apologies for the bad information.

Even if Microsoft ports Windows 7 to ARM next to no programs will even run on it.

hey guys after watching this interview from Microsoft about Windows 8 , for tablets and PCs and laptops ,, i can truthfully say , am not going buy gtab10 or any tablets that support android . am going to wait for the release of any good company for tablet with OS windows 8 and surely i'll buy it ..

do you think android will get busted by windows 8 ?
i want this on my galaxy tab.....
exactly the same thing came to my mind after watching this
would that be possible? they tried arm that has dual core but how about our single core?
i think it will be so hard to fit windows 8 on galaxy tab .... its depend about the dev , anyways they didn't release it yet . now am thinking of buying tab10.1 or waiting for windows 8 with a good company like samsung and only samsung cuz its easy to play with it
Lol, you think its going to be that fast over 3g/hspda, and no, i doubt this will ever come to android tablets, im pretty sure that these will be built around intels new dual core atoms, or maybe the new snapdragons.
edit: The multi-tasking does look neat tho.

The problems of windows phone is not OS; its a market place, it seems empty. There is nothing on it.
I have used hd2 for couple of month and love user interface of windows but when i open market , it made me mad.
iOS is not a great os , but its apps make it great. Android is growing but windows is all empty place. I will not switch to windows tab unless it has some nice market place.

Pfff, it's Windows !!! it will freeze and crash 1387445 times per day.
And the OS will not be open source, you will not have root.
And the applications will cost more, much more.
I'm willing to give it a try, but I can't say if it'll be better than Android or iOS or QNIX. It's still too early to speculate.
@liniutze
- My Ubuntu crashes a lot more than Windows. My Windows 7 hasn't had a BSOD for a year already.
- Not have root is no problem as long as it will work, imo. What they have to do is to make it idiot-proof.
- We can't really say. There are a lot of free apps for the desktop copy of Windows. If they manage to port a lot of great apps, then money is no problem as long as their quality is nice.
Besides, I expected Apple to have apps which costs like $100. I was wrong, considering that Apple seem to have a more, "prestige" perspective than Windows. I mean, their laptops alone costs twice than Windows laptops.

as for windows 8, i think they should retain the current desktop ui as windows 7 is great. the touch interface should only be an option that can be turned on/off. admit it, the keyboard and mouse combo still is supreme if you really needs to get some serious work done. the touch interface for desktop is only good for kiosks or presentations.
the reason for the popularity of other OS alternatives is microsofts fault also. they started going into consoles and put less priority on games for windows. they are diminishing their biggest advantage over the other OSes on home use.. and now if they make windows 8 "touch only", they effectively killed gaming in PCs and i might as well move on to mac.
Where is innovation?
1. They advertise HTML5, Javascript etc as innovation feature, however, the same is possible on both Android and iOS. From my perspective Java is much more capable than any of these. It is object oriented and better suited for large projects.
2. Live applications = widgets on Android
3. There is nothing said about the framework and multitasking.
4. Windows will be a closed platform undoubtedly.
So far it looks like simply a promise and marketing show.
So Yea
I saw the videos and Wow, but then if everything was like in Microsoft Marketing Cuckooland we all be using fling cars and booking our holidays to Saturn directly from our courier file manager (does anyone remember courier?)
In the real world
Android is far more customizable than WM7, and yes probably tiles are nice and better than static icons, but widgets are even more powerful than tiles, hell, you can customize your own widgets in some cases (Check Maker Your Clock Application for example) or even use live wall papers to display info.
If you put your mind to it You can make your android phone to do whatever WM7 do and then some, same goes for ios, lots of things are doable in Android, the only thing needed is people interested and willing to code the right applications.
In WM7 and iOS, sorry, close source, not allowed.
When Win8 comes out and then I see it running in tablets and can compare with whatever version of Android or Chromium and whatever is out call me,
P.S. rest assured that neither Goggle nor Apple wont be seated doing nothing and waiting for MS to take their market share
P
this would make a better tablet with a dock than the transformer! you use you tablet with the same os as you laptops and desktops.
and a marketplace isn't needed. there are tons of sources for windows apps. it may be helpful for a noob, but I know where to get all my software... legally.
if this works well I can see windows taking over both iOS and android. especially if it's as "open" as windows on desktops are. no freaking having to work for root.
No wonder after watching M$ you are euphoric. Its simple social engeneering. Playing on emotions and expectations. The truth is more prosaic. Windows core idea was build on using mouse. MS tried tablets niche many times in the past but never suceeded. Do you imagine mouse with tablet?
This time it will be the same. Much hype will poooof quickly.
I dont consider using windows powered tab since I met android. In fact I have two various fujitsu tabs laying around collecting dust. I need windows to work but for everything else I use android because of easy of use.

I do like the Look of the Touch UI, but it's just a UI.. Surely that can be duplicated to some extent under Android. If not now defiantly in future releases?
