I'm loving my HD2, and I'm very happy with the HTC Sense UI, but there's a couple of things that are really bugging me.
One of them is just stupid.
I'm a developer myself, but a Windows dev, not really mobile, and there's NO WAY ON THIS EARTH that I would EVER make a menu that only had 1 option in it.
With that in mind, why on earth do I have to go to Settings, Menu, and then All Settings, to get the settings menu???
Okay, I understand it going to the settings tab, but why there's a menu titled 'Menu' that only has the 1 option of 'All Settings' in it I'll never know. It would make much more sense to just have 'All Settings' instead of 'Menu'.
Can anyone in-the-know give some pointers on how this might be changed? A CAB file would obviously be preferable , but I'm happy to look into this a bit myself.
I know there's some über geniuses on these forums (suck suck). Can any of you help out?
yeah it's not very ergonomically sound
The 'original' settings shortcut is hidden, you can show it by modifying:
HKLM\Security\Shell\StartInfo\HideSettings
Change it from 1 to 0, soft reset, then delete the settings shortcut in windows\Start Menu\Programs
edit: more info here (and it seems you can't delete the 'new' settings link)

Cheers mate. Bit annoying that we have to hack a step back to get some basic functionality, but better that than nothing.
Thanks
It is indeed a bit strange...
We can say that it is a kind of "protection"... To avoide people playing with your mobile to be directly in the settings ...
That is the only reason I see so far (maybe not a good one)
Well, what settings do you need that are in the original WM settings screen and not in HTC's 'More -> Settings'?
But yeah, the 'More' menu with only one item is pretty ridiculous indeed.
I have a question how to make guick link on main screen to settings (WM settings not manila settings)?
In BSB tweaks, there's the option to have Windows Settings as on/off. I have mine on, which gives me two "gear" icons - one is Settings, the other is Manilla Settings. The Settings icon takes me straight to the All Settings you mention.
Any good for you?

Is there any way of doing this?
Thanks
You can use a program called IconChanger, it can place the icons where you want in the gridlist. Download it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567080.
When you open the program you just press MENU and Sort Current Items or something like that. Now you will see a list with all the names right, the first 3 is the first line in the startmenu and then the 3 following is the 2nd line and so on.
Thank you for your reply. But can you change the wallpaper for the honeycomb as well?
Yes you can, go to settings/today and disable TF3D, then go to pictures & videos (or album, I'm not sure which one) and find the wallpaper you want, tap and hold it till you get a list, chose "use this wallpaper as background" or something like that, set the transperency to 0% and you're ready to go.
And btw, go to settings and re-enable TF3D of course
In the later versions of WM, you can actually drag and drop the start menu icons around without the need of a 3rd party app.
Most WM6.5.1 roms will support this but WM6.5 does not.

Hi guys,
I have a little problem here...
I tried to disable HTC Sense using Setting tab in Sense. OK, so far so good Sense is disabled.
But what if I want to enable it again?... Sense is not present therefore Settings tab is not reacheable, and any options are not reachable even from start menu. There is no settings icon :/
Any ideas?

Start/settings it should be there, if not, there's something really weird going on on your device.
Well, if it would be so easy I would not ask
There is not settings option in startmenu... Its the mentioned problem :/
Try this:
Go into the Windows Mobile Settings, NOT the Manila Settings (you need to active the option to see them in the menu, e.g. with the help of BSBTweaks..), then go to "TODAY", next TAB (Elements in German) and see there is the Manila option. If its unselected, select it, if its selected, make it unselected, softreset and select it again! This should help you. Give it a try and let us know!

Check this out to enable the missing "SETTINGS"!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=589305
Problem is that I tried to delete directory Windows/StartMenu/Settings and create it again. Since this I can see in start menu only one icon: "Today" which is shortcut for today screen only (same as one of hard keys on HD2).
Therefore I cant install BSBTweaks because I cant reach File Explorer or Total Commander or enything else
There are only three things which I can do with my phone right now:
1. soft reset
2. connect it to the PC via activesync
3. hard reset
Connect via activesync and let us know if you have anything in the folder \Windows\Start Menu\Programs
I have everything there as before this issue. But visible in phone is only Today icon.

Sounds like you've really screwed it mate. Guess that's a lesson - don't delete folders in the windows folder!
My advice would be a hard reset. Sorry - can't think of anything else.

and who's a silly billy then! hehe. looking like a hard reset, unless someone cares to zip up their settings folder for you to try replace your folder, not sure that would work though.
The following will work even if using the basic file explorer that comes with the phone:
- start file explorer
- click on menu (right soft key) and click on "show all files"
- go to Windows
- scroll until you find htcSettingEntry.exe (will take a bit of scrolling!)
- click on it, it will open the "all settings" screen, from there you can access the "today" settings and re-enable sense
Jesus Im piece of noob... I have created Settings folder in Windows/StarMenu/Programs not in Windows/StarMenu. I moved it to correct folder and it is up and running again
Isadoras steps helped also. Using htcSettingEntry.exe file in Windows folder you can reach HTC Settings and set whatever you need.
Thx guys .)

Look in your Manila Core or Sense Core package in the .reg or .rgu for this registry entry and make sure its on 0. Or change in your current ROM using a regeditor. Soft reset and your settings icon will be back in the start menu.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Shell\StartInfo]
HideSettings = dword:0
Hi

If you use BsB Tweaks and enable the option "Windows Settings - Show normal settings in start menu" then the settings icon in the start menu goes back to being the classic settings icon (takes you to "all settings").
Instal BSB Tweaks which has a toggle to turn on the 'real' windows settings in start menu.
I know there's another solution to do this, but i don't know where the folder is located to link it on start menu.
I won't install anything additionally for windows settings
Its not a folder to link, it's a control panel item, and therefore isn't easy to link to like programs are.
DO a google on 'links to control panel items windows mobile'
Are you actually saying that you want the settings icon in the start menu to take you to the same thing you get when you click "all settings" on the settings tab?
If so, a 30 second search of this forum turned up this post...

That's pretty easy 8)
I need help in disabling vibration when using the keyboard. I've tried to look for it in the forums and in the device settings but did not find anything. There is no personalization in the Settings tab.
I know the setting is in there somewhere. A search for "vibrate typing" turned up amongst others:

I guess you'll find the answer in both of those threads.

thanks for the links! but i think the HD2 US that i have does not have that remove vibration option in the settings. i tried to look for that option in all the settings but i could not find it. if it's there, then i definitely need to have my eyes checked.
Im running a generic HTC ROM on my T9193 model; go to the Settings tab (in Sense), then Personalize, then Vibration
Using Resco Registry go to
Hkey Local Machine > Software > HTC > ezsip
Add a new DWORD Value string and call it "VibrationEnabled" (without the quotes) and give it a value of 0.
Soft reset and BAM!
But this is with Resco Registry, with another reg edit program, i am not sure what kind of string you are adding, hopefully it is still called DWORD.

This is really useful, especially because it turns off only keyboard vibration. Thank you very much!
If anyone is still having issues with this problem there is an easier way without messing around with the registry. From any screen hit the Windows button to the right of the home button on the phone itself, not the touchscreen. Then find the "settings" icon and tap that. Next you will see a "personalize" tab and tap it, at the very bottom of those options you will see a "vibration" tab, tap that and you will be taken to a screen that allows you to change the settings for the keyboard, simply uncheck the box, tap done and your all set

I'm using the NRG ROM, and those instructions don't make any sense to me. Also, be aware that the stock TMOUS ROM (as I recall, I didn't use it long), does not give access to the standard "Settings" icon except via the Sense tab.

You are correct, on a stock ROM if I remember right you have to go to Settings>Menu>All Settings>Personal>Imput I think it has been a little while since I used any Windows Mobile ROMs now.
Registry hack worked for me.
Would be interesting to determine impact on battery life.
TMOUS-Sense Vibration Settings
This is an old thread but there was a recent reply. For the T-Mobile HD2 with a stock ROM amd/or the Sense overlay, go to the Settings tab, select Personalize, select Vibration and then uncheck the box. However, this did not turn off vibration for the Swype keyboard.
If you have another ROM, then these settings may not be available via this method. BSB Tweaks has settings to turn off/on vibration for HTC apps and calculator vibration. Of course, the registry editing will work. I have found the Resco registry editor to be easy and useful.
This is an easy question for some of you guys but I cant solve it,I have installed SPB mobile shell v3.5.5 and need to type in my owner id but can't find where to.I have looked everywhere.Do I have to do a hard reset and use contacts and "Me" then reinstall all my info or is there an easy way
Heres hoping.
Don
Hi Don, I had this exact issue and firstly it is possible, I did it.
Secondly I may not have done it the slickest of methods but at least this gets you there. I've tried to recall two routes depending upon where you are starting from.
a) HTC Sense UI:
If you are still in the original UI (HTC Sense) scroll sideways to the "Setting" tab. Touch the "Menu" softkey (bottom right) then "All Settings". You should then see a selection of icons from which touch "Today". That will get you to the old Today settings. See below for next steps.
b) SPB Mobile shell UI
If you are in this shell instead, hit "Launcher". You should now see an icon labled "Settings" (else swipe sideways to the second page to see it). Hit that takes you to a screen with more icons including one for "Today" with a cogwheel on the top of it. Hit that takes you to the old Today settings. Now see below.
Today Settings
Once here. Hit the "Items" tab. Remove any tick on the "HTC Sense" option (else the originally Today Screen won't appear later) and then tick the "Owner Info" option (and any others you fancy). Click on "OK" should now get you back to the old Today screen with the "Owner Info" today plugin showing. It can then be selected and the necessary info add. You can then go back into the today settings and re-tick the HTC Sense item if you want the original UI back and not the Today screen. Personally I use the SPB shell and the today screen rather than the HTC Sense.
I did this a long time ago so my recall may be a bit fuzzy for example; if the "Owner Info" isn't visible in the list of Items in the Today settings (it may not be) then you'll have to go into a reg editor (if you are comfortable doing such things) and navigate to :
[Mobile Device\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\]
Then ensure that the key "Owner Info" is present (add if necessary) and enable it (disabling "HTC Sense" at the same time as it seems to overide any other selection). If the key is missing (or you don't have a reg editor) and you need help at this level just drop me a line and I'll post a copy of my settings and suggest a few methods of accessing your registry.
Good luck.
Anybody found an easir way?
Regards - Mallow1
settings - menu - all settings - personal - owner
Sam,
Thanks but my phone doesn't have "owner" at the end of your sequence. I suspect Don is having the same issue (hence me originally having to go into the reg to get access to it to fix mine as nothing obvious was accessible). FYI this is independent of how I get there (through HTC Sense, SPB Shell etc).
Regards - Mallow1
PS I have an unlocked HD2 (none carrier specific) which looks to have originally been packaged for the German market (I'm in the UK and bought it online)
Just to add ti the conversation, my HD2 does not have the Owner when Igo to Personal either.
Ahh course, my mistake.
Hints tips reg tweaks sticky in Q&A section, tip 5 to unhide that option kindly hidden by HTC.
Thanks Mallow1 That did it,thank you all very much.I went to Today ,items and ticked HTC sense that gave me the chance to go to contacts and add the Me details.
