When I open the custom dictionary I dont see my custom words. How do I back these words up? it's annoying having to re-add words that are commonly used such as **** ***** ***** after a format. lol

Hi,
has anyone noticed (or maybe not having the same problem as me) that when using phonepad in T9 mode and writing messages, it doesn't remember the words that you have selected.
for example HE uses the same letters as IF, now...on my old HD, if I typed HE and then selected HE from the list, then type HE again and selected it from the list, next time I typed the keys for HE, the phone would remember that I have used HE the most and HE wold be the fist option in the list....I've done this countless time, but HE is still 5th or 6th in the list of words (ID, which isn't even a word is always first)
as a side issue, one of the first things I always do is edit the T9 dictionary to add my name and other words etc following this..the T9 doesn't remember any new words that I add (I thought it as supposed to do this automatically?)
thanks for reading
Same here
I ve turned T9 of due to this
actually it does.
I had this problem before and only a bit of playing around worked.
Basically, you need to go in to text input settings (can be done from the keyboard pop up menu) and turn ALL the XT9 settings on (i think one or two are off by default)
then, when typing something new, simply turn off the t9, write in the new word then tap on it on the suggestions bit and it will save it to your XT9 dictionary.
Bare in mind that for shorter things, it doesnt for some reason.... only really 3 letter words like uni or bro. for these you need to find the xt9 program, open it and add it.
Hope all that makes sense?
Oh and the HE/ID/if thing sorts itself out after you've selected them about a million times. annoying i know but haven't found a workaround for that.
It does it for me. I've very happy with the way T9 learns from me, even to the point where it's suggesting things like usernames and email addresses when I start typing them.
Hey,
I've searched for the answer to this with fail so will just put it out there: I've got this lovely Swype app for my htc incredible, very usable & lightyears ahead of the stock keyboard. But there are waaaay too many words in the dictionary it's using that aren't typically used in U.S. English (maybe another country's English, ok). Too often - even with autocorrect off - it will pick a word other than the word I think I've carefully swyped, and it won't even be a recognizable word...
I've read in the tutorial that you can highlight a word then hit the Swype button & it will popup dialogue asking if I want to delete that word, but it's never worked for me. Maybe I'm doing it wrong? If nothing else I'd happily go through that process of editing out unusable words.
Is there a way to go into Swype's dictionary, maybe even by accessing it via the SD card somehow, and using a text app to go through Swype's dictionary and edit it to my liking?
The answer to this is already on the Swype tech support forum.
There is no way to edit the stock dictionary or the user dictionary.
Highlight word and press Swype key only removes words which you have added to the dictionary. To add a word, simply type it letter by letter and press spacebar afterwards.
Swype works based on previously-chosen word frequencies. If you swipe a certain combination which could be several things and continually choose the one word, that word will become the most likely selection over time.
I really liked the way the autocorrect worked on the Evo 4G keyboard. Is there a way to turn that on for the Vibrant?
It would also be nice to have the key pressed pop up above the key when I push it (to verify i hit the right one without moving my eye) instead of just flashing blue under my finger where I can't see it.
I'm trying to figure out how to change these two things...at least mainly the autocorrect.
Regarding swype.... not to hijack a thread... I no longer see how you add a word for swype to learn like it did previously? Used to, you would just long press and add the word to your dictionary. Anyone know how to do this?
Whenever you type a word in manually and hit space to go to a new word, it learns it. You can access the tutorial in "Swype Tips" in your app menu. It goes over this and other uses. You'll add the "word" "bob4" to the menu in the tutorial.
I found the answer to my question.
Apparently I was confused
If anyone else out there is confused...
The default keyboard is swype and to get the autocorrect working similar to Evo, you need to go to settings, then Locale and text, then Set default keyboard and change it to android. If you change to samsung keyboard, you have to enable the auto predict text thing.
I've been trying out swype now though, and I'm liking it.
^^ yeah, I did that.... I guess I'm just used to longpressing and adding words to my dictionary. I have tried to type in a-p-p-s, but I can never get swype to do "apps" for me.

This clarified a lot for me.
I love my swype keyboard but I'm sick and tired of the library adding little corrections our appendages to words and then letting those add on block out the words I'm trying to type.
I want to know if there are any apps that allow me to open up my swype library and edit it I'm a list form.
As an example it would list all entries in the library in alphabetical order and allow me to delete entries that I don't need.

Great question, I'd love to know too
It doesn't even need to be swype
Specifically but a library editor in general

I believe each keyboard has its own user dictionary and they are not shared. would make sense if they were though.
when i encounter this, i just highlight the blocking word, hit swype logo on the bottom right, delete, and it never shows again...
This is one of the major reasons I switched away from SlideIT and Swype (to Ultra Keyboard, which so far seems to be using the User Dictionary).
You can only really use the select and Swype key delete method. Personally I thought it was easier to disable automatic addons and add words.
Great question. Been wondering the same thing for a couple of weeks. Those notifications that a word was blocked really slow down my typing.

Definetly ... And the creators of swype say ignore those pop ups until your done typing your message then go back through and edit everything ... only problem with that is that I have a short memory span lol and cant quite remember what word was meant to be there

I hope someone can figure out an app or some way to edit the swype dictonary. I really like swype and highlighting the word then pressing the swype button works just fine but i would like to edit the list of words in one shot.

Thanks for the Ultra keyboard mention. Tried it and love it. Better than swype to me. Maybe not as accurate at first, but has tons of features and I don't have to worry about that annoying popup box.
I wish there were a way to disable Swype from automatically adding words you type, but instead having an easy way to manually teach it words. A lot of stuff I type gets added and reappears later even if it was only a one time thing.
Im beginning to get frustrated with htc interfering with some words i type, mainly it has lol in capitals like LOL, and a few acronyms i use, names etc keep getting replaced regardless of how many times i add them to personal dictionary. So i want to remove some of the words form the built in dictionary if there is any way
yup...
settings -> language & keyboard -> touch input settings -> personal dictionary -> edit personal dictionary -> (menu) delete
and select the words you want to delete.
Also if you want to override some of the words, you just add them to the dictionary, or I think you can just edit it in the dictionary.
Thank you ver much for the info.
Thanks for this, I saved some words which I wrote wrong accidently, and they kept coming up when I wanted the correct spelling.
I know how to remove words from the personal dictionary, I'm on about trying to remove words from htcs built in dictionary for auto correct
