Huge battery drain !!! - HD2 General

My hd2 is losing almost 10 % per hour. If i use wifi to update weather etc in sence it may lose 5% in under 5 minutes~!!
I am sure that is coming from a bad app i am using, causing battery drain!!
Please help, any ideas which it may be??
I have installed both free apps and apps i had bought for my hd as well.
Resco explorer
Fingerkeyboard 2.1
gfreek F_Brians tskbar v5.a (many say that taskbar cause also bat troubles..)\
Pim backup
Resco contact manager
Lockscreen fix v4 by heartofwolf
16 shortcuts for sense
Resco audio recorder
sms report eraser jgui
core player
mosko mobi fim
marketplace
skyfire
wvd
midomi
million dollar pocker
PPC visuals Dusk showcase1.0.1b (because hd2 dont have task manager where i want it to be!)
Thats all!! All installed into main memory..(and of course most of them not active as task never! - only apps that running like taskbar, task manager, resco etc..)
ANY IDEAS WHAT TO TRY??

What I would do in your situation it would be to do a hard-reset and check if the situation keeps the same. If not, I would start to install apps one by one and check which one is doing that.

If i cant find any other solution, yes ill do that. But i want to go the other way round, and simply by unistalling find the problem.
The truth is though that the first 24 hours that i had my hd as stock (no apps, not even my contacts) and only the sence configured the battery was still draining fast..And with little usage i lost 40% in about 5 hours..Still far away from the battery tests from our friend xmoo here in xda..
Other users experience???? Please post here so we can check!

I too am experiencing fast battery drain. Only used for about1 hour and already 77% left.
I am wondering.... if anyone who is experiencing fast drain did not charge their phone for a good few hours upon receipt or if it was used while charging for first time.

in the modaco hands-on review, Paul said his battery improved after a few depletion/charging cycles

Hi all ! How should we do it corectly? Is there a plan? 3 charges of 12 h after complete discharge or something like that?
Thank you in advance !

i don't have the answer but can confirm great battery life. I plugged mine in immediately when i got it and left it plugged i over night. To my surprise, i am getting the best battery live of any htc product ive owned (and that's a lot lol) with pretty substantial use. Now the difference between you and me may be 3g. I live in the states and don't get 3g, also i set mine to gsm only. Maybe try gsm only for a few hours?

I've also turned off auto brightness and have it on the lowest setting most of the time, as it's enough for me and helps get the most out of the battery.

the correct way to get the battery in best possible shape
before first use...charge over night
..then use untill battery is completely empty...
...then load over night again (that means about 10 hours)
you do that 10 times in a raw and your battery will be in the best possible shape. From there, you don't have to do the extremes every time but at the beginning it takes about 10 full charging circles for the battery to use its full potential.

thats complete bull**** on litium ion batteries.
Li-ion doesn't need to do the full charging cicles and deplete the 100% of the battery will damage the battery.

My experience with the HD2 battery is great: I get two to three days with one chargecycle. I have set the networktype on GSM and not on Auto.. I think this helps.

this is the only way I can ever get my handsets to go more than one day! Fine for emails / calendar sync, not so handy for browsing/maps though!

What I do with my mobiles is:
When I open it, I use it till the battery is completly over;
Charge the mobile during 10/12 h;
Then use the mobile normally and charge it whenever I want;
After 1 month, I let the battery get completly drained and then do another full charge.
Altough is LI-ON battery and it has no memory, it's necessary to do a "full" recharge from time to time to "calibrate". Don't know if it's really like that, but it's what I've been doing and it works great for me.

I HAVE 3G ENABLED ALL THE TIME,AND WHEN I GOT THE PHONE I BEGAN USING IT ASAP WITG THE CHARGER ON, TILL 100 percent! Writing from thd phone noe as it... charges!51 percent with almost no usage the last 7 hours! Maybe i ll try the full drain thing! Just to check!
ps. also the typing expirience sucks for me.does the aling screen option works in this kind of screen!?

How's the reception in your area? I had a phone that during night, with only GSM network, drained 30% in my home. But in other areas, 1/2% only.

1) let it charge overnight (8hr+), phone off, straight from socket not through pc usb
2) fully drain the battery then fully recharge. repeat for 2-3 times
3) try flight mode (if there is one), let it idle for 1 hour or more. any drain?
4) go through settings and switch off periodic updates (activesync, weather, email). any drain?
5) remove questionable program(s) and see if it helps
6) worst case scenario, hard reset and check if battery usage is back to normal. then install one program at a time

that's the best way to destroy battery. it is a li-ion: first time it's importante to have fast charge.
wot i do is:
-fast charge and never let the battery die.
in this way, alla my phone have an eccellent battery as the first day.

There must be something corrupted with your device.
I had min in use from Friday noon to Sunday late afternoon (forgot my charger at home):
about 1 hour of phone usage, push mail activated, weather sync (syncs all hours), took 5 pictures (2 footprint and 3 normal in hires) and alarm at Saturday and Sunday morning
battery dropped from 100% to 21% in this timeframe with the above usage. I think this is not too bad

probably you aren't very knowledgable regarding batteries...I am.
altho Lithium-Ion batteries have no memory, they still need to be charged correctly at the beginning to free up the potential.
but whatever...do whatever makes you sleep at night

Can you tell us exactly what is the best charging routine for our phone please. When new and when its been used for a while. Thanks.

My wizard battery only lasts half a day now?!

Hi, my batter has been working great since Christmas, but now for some reason won't last more than a fwe hours without saying battery low. I have my gprs check email every 5 minutes, but it has always been that way and I have been gettnig a good 2 days out of my phone before.
Now i take it off of the charger in the morning and then around lunch the batter is low already...
Is my batter just toast?
Should I get another?
THANKS!
T
Just a question, but have you been overclocking your TI OMAP processor? Maybe there's a correlation?

Mine is brand new (tmobile MDA) and when I enabled 802.11g I noticed a dramatic drop in battery life. I think for the sake of the battery I will only enable that as needed.
I wonder also if you are in the same proximity to the mobile towers, if you are on a border between coverage you will see a drop in battery life becuase it is transmitting more frequently to register with the mobile network.
To try to see if its your battery or something you are using, and while this may be incredibly difficult with a mobile, especially a mobile/pda that you use frequently, you may want to see about turning off features to see if that helps. Turn off wifi and see if that helps, turn off bluetooth and see about that, etc. Once you rule them out as the major culprit ...
While I highly doubt this may be the case, it is a possiblity, and worth looking into, especially if you noticed a sudden drop in battery life as opposed to a gradual diminishment. You may have some rogue software that is sending out more data via a wireless device than you desire. A worm, trojan, whatever. There are anti-virus packages available, I dont know how good any of them are, http://www.freecabs.de has some, some of the big commercial guys make some. Again I dont think its that becuase of the rules of probability, however it is possible and some have been known to exist in the wild for a few years now.
T,
I had the same thing with my c500, now I know they are two entirely different phones but after I flashed the device it was as good as new in terms of battery life.
It may be worth a try before you go and buy a new battery.
Marc
I have the same problem.
Not overclocking, no anti-virus, just regular phone use and my battery does not last a day!!
I keep it on charger most of the day to avoid shut-down.
me too
I've the same problem and I've an other big problem, when I turn off my Vario, it's dont't start on power botton (i must extract and insert a battery turn on the telephone).
We can make a test if anyone have a HTC diagnostic software (see service manual.pdf)
Check your today screen.
I too had the same issue. Mainly, PhoneDashboard was causing the battery drop. Along with any today elements that poll your hardware to display the amount of battery, memory and storage. Those all drain your battery.
To check whether it's really a today screen issue or not. Charge your battery to it's full 100%, remove ALL today screen elements, then use your mobile normally and keep checking the battery level drain rate.
Hope this was useful.
Mine dies, 100% when leave work, some usage and then dead in the morning.
I only have Pocketbreeze and a few plug ins installed.
There is NO wireless /bluetooth in that time.

nope.
I have not been using wifi at all lately either
I have spb today stuff but have had them since I first got my wizard. really, I have not changed anything....
some programs "eat up" battery life. Investigate by doing a HARD reset, then do not install ANY software for two days. I bet you will see your normal battery life ;-)
I took all today programs off
100% at 5.30
32% at 7.30
This is O2 Mini Rom without all the 02 crap.
I will investigate further. Hard reset here we come!!
Last night my battery was 100% at 5.30 after a hard reset, no o2 software installed and very light usage.
This morning at 7.35 it was 50% which is good I guess???
Suggestions as to whether it is the battery?

Typically I charge every other day, little phone talks however.

Ah, I run this. Is it bad? I've turned off all the scrolling updates etc - did you find that helped?
Got a battery replacement but still after no real use dropped to 50% in only 13 hours.
Any other ideas?
mine works for about 5 days normal usage with this options:
- phone on
- bt off
- wifi off
- automatically receive IrDa incoming... (Connections ->beam...)
so the wifi on my batt only last for a few hours, but when you disable wifi and the irda incoming you should have more batt. life
Thanks I will give this a try and have taken out irDA.
However my figures were with Bluetooth and Wireless off as well
I have noticed that with wifi on (and particularly if I'm using it) the battery drops at a frightening rate. Whereas with wifi disabled (which it's been for most of today - first day since I've had the XDA that I've been busy working and so haven't been 'fiddling' with it at all ) the battery still seems to be sitting happily at 80% after around 8 hours.
Funny, I thought that if the phone was suspended, the wifi would be inactive, so the battery wouldn't drop. Appears that's not the case...
Do u have Spb Pocket Plus installed? this program sucked my battery flat in 1 day. I removed it and now its up 2 or 4 days depending on how long i have wifi on. Checking email every 5 min also reduces battery life allot.
goodluck
No pocket plus... My today screen just has phmtray, resco today, taskplus, and the pocketmusic plugin...

[Solved] Battery usage

So im trying to figure out where my battery is draining to... I cannot go a full day on a battery charge and its really annoying at night it jsut dies and plus i cant really do too much on it for fear of battery drainig itself. Is there a way.. i can check to see what might be taking up battery
Wifi off
GPS Off
no 3G in the US
Bluetooth Off
Push Mail off... (though am syncing 3 mail accounts every 2 hours... minimal mail though)
Internet usage 30 minutes (besides, weather stocks)
Phone usage .. about 60 minutes in the day
Gyrator on
General usage.. games, tinkering etc (60 minutes... hey its still relatively new)
Appreciate the input.
Strange..
I've got two mail accounts, talked for 15 minutes with a bluetooth headset (been connected all day).
From 06 in the morning until now at ten in the evening I still have 7 bars on the battery. (three in the TF3D)
Consider doing a hard reset and set up stuff and see if that helps..
After tinkering for a couple of weeks, I hard reset and just put back on what I want. I also used Tweak HD which has a few tweaks to lengthen battery life. It made a big difference to me.
Orinigally it had drained in about 18 hours, afterwards it went slightly over 40 hours.
this is strange - i use my phone alot and it easily lasts 2 days
have you tried replacing it? when i bought my first diamond it was faulty, replaced it and batteyr life changed
also try flashing a stock rom on again and see what happens - less than a day - defo not right!
diamond v hd
had 3 diamonds, battery was lucky to last 10hrs, ate 2680mA battery packs like jaws ate boats!
HD, charge 1 every 2 days.... huge improvement... would love it to last longer, but its a million times better than the diamond and thats all that matters...
HD battery life in conclusion, is great, and i do hammer my phone usage!
I'm seeing similar battery issues as the OP. I barely make it through a 12 hour day on a charge, although I get a lot of e-mail on 2 accounts (one checked every 15 minutes, the other every 2 hours). In an effort to track down battery drain, I downloaded and installed HomeScreen PlusPlus and find that at rest with screen intensity at 60% my HD draws 150 mA, with the screen dimmed at 10% it draws 70 mA, and in standby (blank screen) it's drawing 30 mA. When the data connection is active, it draws between 250-300 mA, and when using the phone with screen on about 400 mA. I figure that with those numbers and a 1350 mA battery, 10-12 hours is all I can expect. If anyone else is monitoring their battery draw, I would appreciate seeing your numbers for comparison.
Oooh this is a good idea...
anyone else done homescreen++ to find battery drainage.. im going to get to it this weekend...
Have the same issue.... I have nothing special installed and for some reason it drains very fast on basic features.....
Same issue here
Recently I've been getting less than 12 hours out of a full charge. I've uninstalled a few things and turned bluetooth and wifi off and today it seems better with about 80% left after 10 hours
Vaguely considering a hard reset if the problem continues...
have fixed certain aspects now using the new version of Tweak HD
For our benefit.. could you please tell us...
1) your version of Tweak HD
2) WHat did you do to improve battery life
Thanks
Progress
So I installed Homescreen++ to be able to monitor my battery utilization... and im averagin 150mA to 350mA with it being closer to 300mA most of the time... no wonder I am getting 10-12 hours of battery life.. and this is with the device not doing anything.. except cehcking mail accounts.. NOTHING else...
I really need help with this.. every night at around 9:00pm.. i am without battery and its driving me nuts...
short of a hard reset... what can I do to monitor what programs or processes are taking up my battery?
I really feel your pain. I must recharge during the day everyday. I've ordered a second battery, but it hasn't arrived yet. I've done all I can do with HD Tweak and Schap's Advanced Config, even turned the screen brightness down further to no avail. I don't want to hard-reset, but I'm going to give that a try this weekend. Before I do, If any of you experiencing good battery life has a few moments and is willing to install HomeScreen ++, please post your numbers to compare to ours (mine are in a previous post). The download link is:

It can easily be uninstalled through "Remove Programs" later.
Thanks in advance for your help; I am so enamored with this amazing device that I can't bear to give it up!
Battery life much better than my Kaisers...

Apparently Batti uses a lot of battery (ironically).
I've just replaced it with Ariel battery and will let you know how it goes:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=364278
I'm not running Batti.
I have been through an Apache, a Blue Angel, a Hermes and most recently a Kaiser before springing for this amazing Blackstone. All my previous devices made it through at least a full day before requiring a recharge.
My ROM is 1.14.405.3 and Radio is 1.09.25.14
I'm thinking of springing for the HD, I currently have a Hermes. Battery life is a major concern of mine, and on my Hermes I had to purchase a larger battery with the extended back plate.
Does the HD turn off the screen when not in use or is it on all the time? Also how does it do with WiFi on?

Well, Its normal to get hot when taking a long call.. (10 min or more), but while in standby, it should NEVER get even WARM (mine stays cold as ice ) !!!
The power drain maybe is cuz your phone is heating.. The heat expands circuits and increase the power drain.

I wouldn't rush to send it back. It all sounds normal to me.
You must remember that the batteries will take a few weeks to attain full capacity operation.
Keep them on charge as much as you can (mains or car/plane etc), don't switch off at night, don't cycle them and don't drain them excessively.
If that does not give an improvement THEN take them back.
When I first got my TD2 I was appalled at the battery life and bought a spare battery. I have never used it.
And when they get warm it shows that they are happily being used or recharged and is no cause for concern.
Hi Cairo,
First of all, sorry for my english.
In my case, I bought my TD2 this summer, & I had some of these problems with the battery.
I'll tell you my steps, perhaps it could help you, if not, you must talk with HTC support.
First, use modaco's nodata to disable HSDPA/3G, use only GSM, it's much better to save battery. the link :http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-software/246171/new-free-utility-nodata/
Second: Active Sync.
You need a task manager to see notifications.
you must find one of the repllog event.
Use this http://www.dotfred.net/TaskMgr.htm.
In notifications tab find "repllog AppRunAfterTimeChange" and disable it.
In my case I have disabled two events more, PushInternetScheduleTimeChanged and PushInternetScheduleTimeChanged1 and everything works fine.
After that, in process tab, if repllog appears, kill it, and in notifications tab find again the event "repllog.exe /remote /h",disable too, and use a reg editor (dot's taskmgr has one) and search in hkcu\software\microsoft\ActiveSync, find "KeepAlive" and you must change 1 to 0.
In this case, activesync will never start again, till you connect td2 to laptop or pc with activesync (it changes the value from 0 to 1).
I hope you could understand me and the info is ok for your td2.
Regards

Battery Drain HD2?

Anyone else experiencing excessive battery drain on their HD2?
I am interested to know if this is just my phone or if it actually just chews through that much juice.
I have had windows mobile phones for several years so I know all the basic ways to keep battery drain down.
Stuff that I have generally found:
1. If I keep the screen turned on without it going blank I lose about 1% every 2 minutes.
2. If I am browsing that figure almost doubles.
3. My old Touch HD used about 5% battery overnight when in standby but this phone will go through about 25%.
4. The phone gets really hot when browsing (much hotter than my old Touch HD)
I have tried flashing ROM's and Radios but nothing seems to help.
I am not running any software on the phone that I wasn't running on my old HD1.
I have only had the phone for a week so I am not sure if this is normal but I would be very surprised if HTC released a phone that lasts for only a few hours on one battery.

I wish I got 2 days
we really need extended battery ,hd1 battery was much more better.
Good mate but yes i agreee HTC has come up with a battery eating device this time around. My device on full charge just gives in around 8-10 hrs. This might be dat my EDGE is on and 7 mails accounts sending mails back and forth.
but truly i think that HTC better look into this very seriously cause more and more ppl are suffering in this battery drain..
Any of flashing roms and radio not helping either... did a complete hard reset but no step up
HTC come with longer battery battery for bigger devices soon......
The only solution i see now is get one of those extra battery worth mind bogling £52.87
I've had this problem ever since flashing to 1.66, I flashed the radio to 2.07.50.27 as this was said to solve the problem but it hasn't made any difference after a few days of use. My battery life used to be significantly better when I was on the original stock ROM, so much so I'm considering going back to it
I also know all the tricks as to clawing back the battery drain, my phone is idle on my desk at work most of the time and I don't use Wi-Fi, all the location stuff is turned off as are weather, stock and other updates plus my screen is set to 30% then off after 60 seconds. Despite all of that I lose 1% every 2-3 minutes
It seems to me that perhaps the radio is checking for reception pretty much constantly rather than say, 5-10 mins perhaps? This used to be a problem on my old Blackberry Storm but a few fimware updates solved it, eventually!
The only other thing I've noticed since the update is that once the battery drops below 50% or so, the drain seems to slow, I don't know if this is perhaps because the phone goes into some sort of semi-power saving mode?
Suggestions/hints welcome! I've had a semi-thorough look into this on the forums and tried most of the suggestions but still the problem remains. Will battery life improve after a few charges perhaps as this was a trait of my Storm's battery, the more you charged it the better the day to day battery life was (and no it wasn't because I had it plugged in all the time! Over time the general charge just seemed to improve when roaming).
Thanks!

You need to indicate what services you have running. Do you have any data services running eg: location services, push mail, weather? all of these have a bearing. In addition, network services can also drain a battery, especially if the signal is weak and the phone have to search for a transmitter, or 3g services.

That is a very interesting comment. Although since upgrading to radio 2.07.51.05_2 I have had very good battery life, I too have noticed a slowdown after 50%

Nothing is turned on, everything is set to manual.
As I stated I know all the basic stuff. I understand that all these things have a bearing on battery loss.
Everything I stated in the first post is for when I have nothing running. The phone is just sitting there running sense, thats all.
I have had my HD2 for a few days now. I am on Vodacom in South Africa.
I have not had a problem with battery life.
Yesterday i unplugged from the charger at 07:00. I spent about 1 and 1/2 hours of talk time on the phone, it was permanently connected to 3g doing weather updates etc. Sent and received a couple of sms's. Also played with a few tweaks and reboots.
When i got home at about 18:00 i had over 30% battery. I then surfed the web for over 2 hours to drain the battery.
try setting Network Selection to Manual

Same here with and without stock ROM.
yeah.. the phone is a battery sucker.... another cons of HD2....
This is very interesting to read because I do not have this problem. When I left my HTC HD2 on last night (I woke up at 4 in the morning to get something to drink and unplugged it) and then woke up at 8, it was at 98%. That means it went from 100% to 98% in 4 hours. Not to bad imo.
I am now at work and it is 15:34, and I am at 87%. I have made some calls, watched some videos, send a few text messages. Not much (I am at work so I got other things to do). So 08:00 (98%) - 15:34 (87%) - that's 7 and a half hours, with some calls, text messages and a video.
I am pretty sure when I get home at 18:30 the battery will still be above 75%. Then I connect to my wifi at home, refresh twitter, weather, browse the web a little bit, check e-mail etc. So that will drain my battery a little more.
But overall I have not had any problems with my battery life. I always make it trough a day, and never have a problem like 'damn my battery is almost done and I am not near a charger'.
Some info that might help:
I do not sync ANYTHING automatically. I still have some things to do with my Vodafone contract and do not have an unlimited plan yet. I only sync at home on my own wifi connection. For me this is not a problem, because I only need to refresh the weather each morning to see what the day is going to be like. Twitter I only do when I have the time. Stocks I do not use.
I have screen brightness set to automatic.
I am on 3G most of the time.
I am running the official 1.66 Dutch ROM.
I have some tweaks, games and programs installed.
I hope you all solve this issue, because it just can not be that my HD2 has a good battery life, and your HD2 not
Kind Regards
EDIT @ 17:00 still 87%.
I am in a 3G 2100 only network (I don't have 2G functionality).
ROM: Artemis 3.0
Radio: 2.06.50.23_3
Customization: Seiya 6.5.5
I don't leave any automatic updates on, except for my e-mail account every 2 hrs.
I never close my connection.
The drainage overnight is -3% (8hrs).
The battery lasts at least 12 hrs of intense usage.
Normally I have to recharge every second day (e.g. I charged last night, I answered a few calls, I did some IM and browsing and I still have 73% left).
For a phone with a 1 GHz processor, a 4.3" screen and a tiny 1250 mAh battery I find the drainage is rather decent.
Mind you, I ALWAYS do at least one full charging cycle to my battery after flashing a new ROM. I mean: full discharge, battery out 1 min, full charging in OFF mode, battery out 2 mins.

I have seen this process recommended a couple of times now. What is the theory behind it if you don't mind me asking?
maybe its also becouse some of us couldnt wait using the hd2 when they got it (like me) before it was fully charged for the first time
anyway my battery life has improved a little bit, i was at 74% this morning and did a lot of browsing, installing, tweaking and now its at 3%. it used to be much worse
I have battery consuming problem from time to time.I did everything:
installed new stock rom 1.66;
transfered all data which phone is using from card to phone memory(pictures,icons,sounds.etc...)
all updates are done manually;
Gprs connection is swiched off on the idle after one min;
One night it is loosing from 2 to 4%;
another from 30 to 40%
and it is eating memory from 10 to 15mb
I think that it is radio which is causing battery drainage so fast(to much communication wit a base stations, because when I am checking spb wireless monitor in the morning, there is no any data traffic.
I hope they can solve problem, because it is getting me mad and crazy
Try setting the screen brightness to 10-20% (on battery powered)
and dim backlight after 10 seconds (on batter powered).
It helps a lot, at least for me.

as far as i know, the battery has an integrated digital circuit (ic) which estimates the state-of-charge (soc). the procedure resets/calibrates the ic to obtain a more accurate estimation. since the radio rom is in charge with the power management (among other things), by changing it you decalibrate the "gauge".
i don't know if i've got the theory right but i tested this myself and it surely works.

[Q] Battery Drain? And Opera memory problem?

Updated to the new TMO ROM (3.14 and the new radio too) a few days ago and I've been noticing that my battery is draining too quick for comfort. Maybe I'm just paranoid because it's a new ROM but does anyone else lose ~6-10% a hour (standby + occasional texting)? And when I go online (using Opera 10 with or without wifi) or make a phone call, it feels like ~30% per hour.
Am I expecting too much from the battery or is this not normal?
PS. I already did a hard reset a couple of times after flashing the new ROM + countless soft resets after reinstalling a few cabs (CHT, Duttys, CleanRAM, EndKey, and Opera 10).
Thanks!
PPS. While I'm here...sometimes when I close Opera 10 and run other programs and then try to reopen Opera I get this warning: ***Cannot open 'Opera10-armv4i' a critical component is either missing or cannot start because program memory is unavailable.*** Then it tells me to check task manager and close programs and start again. But I have no other programs running and I use CleanRAM and I still can't open Opera. The only way I can reopen it is via a soft reset...
Is that also common?
I'm at 44% battery and I've been using it moderately all day since 7AM... That's 12.5 hours... Not too bad for me.
Hey, I just got an HD2 [TMOUS] and I installed NRGZ28's Energy ROM for the phone. I am new to this forum, but I know the rules since i Have been residing mostly around the Developers forum and the Excalibur forum. in any case, I did a lot of research last night on how to get the best battery life. I AM using Sense [I know that eats battery], but I removed pretty much everything I can think of from the homescreen that uses data connection. I turned my E-Mail to Update only when I tell it to ... i removed the weather panel [heard it could use up more battery due to effects] ... removed the FB panel (i can just use the app) ... and the twitter panel... Then I did as other guides said and turned off the "My Location" feature. I also did some reg tweaks I had read do some real good for the battery, and so far I have yet to notice any difference than before I did all that.
My report is that I loose about the same as the OP ... roughly 10% per hour. I mean, okay, 10 hours of battery life is OKAY IF I WERE ACTIVELY USING THE PHONE. I lose 10% when just going through the phone, not running games or music, or viewing photos or videos. Just on Sense, going to the Settings panel alot , through the Start Menu, and the lockscreen occasionally.
First off: Is that normal? Is there are more energy efficient ROM? What can I do?
Secondly: I am aware of Extended Batteries, and I have researched some of these too ... I heard the 1600 mAh one that fits in the satandard casing actually doesn't do much ... then there is a 2400 mAh (?) which requires its own back-casing because it is larger. I got an extended battery along those lines for my Excalibur, and was satisfied with how it made it easier to hold ... but does the bulk make THIS phone look worse? It sort of worked for the appearance of the Exca, but I feel like on this phone it would just look like a giant tumor ... Any recommendations? Any good standard size, expanded life batteries?
Thank You so much [in advance]!

Your battery should be lasting longer than 10 hours. Mine lasts 12 or more hours with FB Data, Twitter Data, Push email and all of that with moderate usage. Mostly texts and emails, twitter and FB. Do you have your Automatically Adjust Backlight box checked and the other options checked under sounds & display in settings-->Backlight?
Indeed. My battery lasts at least 12 hours, most of the time 14ish hours before needing to be recharged. Haveing the system regulate the backlight is the single greatest thing you can do to conserve battery life, and alot of people have it tuned off for some crazy reason.
Hmm...I had read that I should turn off the backlight auto-control and install "AutoBacklightSteps" (or "AutoBacklight") ... That is what I have now at least ...
Right now I have brightness set to 20% [on battery], and higher on external power. Auto- is turned off. I use the app to change the backlight setting when I need to, although I often don't.
Now I don't personally use phones very very often. Seeing as I am in school, and one of the few kids who actually takes notes and doesn't text in class, I will use it for maybe 30 minutes at most [cumulatively] from 7AM to 3PM. Today, I used my phone as I think I normally would ....actually probably much less. In any case, it is now 10:33 here and I have 55% battery life. This is how I ran the phone for the day:
6AM : Took the phone off the charger [100%]
6AM -> 7:30AM : Phone left relatively un-touched. [98%]
7:30 AM -> 2:45 PM : the "Phone" [in comm manager] is off, in 'Airplane Mode' ... relatively low use [@ 2:45 -> 89%]
2:45 - 3:30 : I had 'Phone' on, received text messages I had gotten throughout the day, then turned it off [87% / 88% ... my memory is a bit fuzzy]
3:30 - Now : I generally had the 'phone' off, and I was in airplane mode. I intermittently turned it on.. I played some games, watched some moves [with Window Media Player] (I literally watched like 5 minutes of Transformers to show off to my friend haha, then I was done with that) Not much else...
All day the screen's brightness was at 20%. I used the LEDs for some flash photos, and the flashlight very rarely. I did take a couple of photos randomly thoughout the day ... but that was it. Right now, [after having the phone ON for about 30 min], my battery is at 55%.
I have to say that isn't too bad. Maybe the reader just wasn't that accurate yesterday, or I was doing a lot more than i though I was hehe [Could be file transfers and such]... In any case ... is this normal? I do expect to use the device more and more later on, I will text more and such [use Web sparingly as I know it eats battery] ... if I can manage to get though a day without losing power entirely I'll be happy haha.
Oh, and just some 'stats' : Today I placed 5 Phone Calls, received/sent 10 SMS, used internet for maybe 15 Minutes. That is basically it [since I know that probably affects seeing if battery consumption is normal].
PS: If you noticed I have the phone in Airplane mode a lot, it is because the signal for T-Mobile doesn't get into my school ... something about the dropped ceilings or just the architecture prevents the signal from entering, so I just generally leave it in airplane mode.
In any case, I would like to thank you guys a lot for already responding to my prior post
