Best worldwide navigation - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Themes and Apps

Hi all,
I have just bought myself the TP2 and I am pretty happy with it after coming from a Nokia E71. The display on this thing is superb.
Anyway, the one thing I am missing that I really liked with the Nokia was OVI maps. I do have Google maps on the TP2 but it does not allow you to download any maps to the phone and always requires a network connection to work. Sometimes when I am travelling overseas I don't always have a good signal so I want something with the maps built in. I work in the Far East so looking for maps for Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia in particular.
Any recommendations if any? I have seen Mapking but looking at the website I don't think this yet supports the WVGA resolution. I recall the original had poor fonts on VGA displays but this has been updated butnot sure if it will work with WVGA. I am going to download the trial and find out.
Cheers
Dave...

iGO 8 has maps for the Asian countries.

Garmin works great on the Tilt2. Lots of maps for the area you're looking at, some of them free. http://www.malsingmaps.com/portal/
After you install, make sure you use "GPS INtermediate Driver" and not "Comm 4"
Tap the signal meter, then disable. Select "GPS Intermediate Driver" then enable.
I applied the GPS tweaks in this thread, made a HUGE difference:

in case you are wondering: how MapKing 2007 looks on a TP2

Route 66

For anyone interested in different satnav options, I can confirm the new Route 66 mobile 8 works really well on the X1. Works great with the wvga res and the UK maps are Q3 2008 which is (I think) more up to date than Tomtom or Copilot 7.
is navigation smoother than tomtom's or iGO's navigation?
Find it pretty smooth. Ive only been using it a few days so havent much experience with routing yet but seems ok. It zooms in when approaching junctions as I believe tomtom does and no gps lag at all that I can detect. I havent tried igo 8. I fancied the 3D mapping but I think I read somewhere it doesnt support full uk postcodes. maybe someone can correct me if thats wrong.
Cool,
I'm thinking of buying it .. But don't now for shure..
I'm using igo8 at the moment, but i miss the speedcam and the traffic info!
Only thing that igo does have is a much better interface, wich is very usefull when driving..
For the dutchies:
Today you can buy it for 40 euro (EU version)
http://www.onedayonly.nl/bestel
Over time I have used them all.
I've been using iGo8 for some time now. In my opinion the best out there....hands down.3D rendering is excellent.
I recently used it in pedestrian mode to see the sites around Paris...fantastic and accurate.
Plenty of skins to choose from. Dimka Tomsoft is perfect for the Xperia. http://www.tomsoftware.net/default.aspx?pg=bfe66309-2007-4a7b-871d-4dee68e631c1
Speedcam data can be easily obtained and free traffic info comes via the built in RDS radio courtesy of beemer http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=512630

We have been using TomTom for years, but changed to Route 66 based on the fact that TomTom does not anymore supports only the software. Route 66 does a good job..
Has anyone experiences with the navigon mobile software?
wauw, that are some nice screenshots, how did you get that theme?
And, it's nice to hear that tmc works with that workaround, gonna try it tomorrow!

GPS Dashboard: True free Navigational GPS app.

Honestly speaking i was fed up of GPS apps and maps...there wasnt a single free app which could just use my GPS chip and tell me without maps my heading, my altitude, my speed and my coordinates..
and which wud work purely on GPS chip..no data usage no need of downloaded maps..
i dont need maps all the time..i mean there has to be a way to use GPS without having maps.
so here it is:

found this cool app which is free for Xperia:
http://www.handango.com/catalog/Pro...25&platformId=30&productId=248650&sectionId=0
u need to login to download but its free.
a very simple app which uses your GPS chip.
very useful when u r out there somewhere in the world.
it also gives u the sky view of how many satellites are there above u.
i guess all of u must be already knowing this
but i love its simplicity
I had no idea of it. Will try that! Does it use ONLY gps chip, no data transfer?

Have downloaded it to try, have to wait until morning to see what each meter is displaying.

Nice !
Check also a nice free gps software list here.
My preferred is actually richesseGPS.

[POL]Which is your favorite GPS software??

Which is your favorite GPS software??
1. Destinator
2. Garmin
3. iGO (Nav n Go)
4. Navigon
5. Route66
6. TomTom
i use Garmin, n IGO... Garmin for the better MAP and ROUTE, n IGO for the better navigator.. I love IGO, because, in GARMIN, the refresh rate is looks like 1,5second or more.. in iGO, refresh rate is about 0,5second, so the move is smooth..
Any chance of adding CoPilot v8.0? For me this is by far the better PDA GPS.
good poll voted for igo
voted for Garmin, because here in Argentina we have Projecto Mapear with all the maps.
I really dont know if iGo have the same maps
for me i vote for garmin, because in malaysia its only the best navigator available in the market
yepp garmin has best maps..but it is slow like hell in 3d and it doesent have qwerty keyboard
Automapa
I've used TomTom for quite some time, but on foot and around London it didn't always seem so great. The refresh rate wasn't all that fast and I found the whole installation rather large for my internal storage.
I recently trialed, and then purchased, iGo (Nav n Go) 8, and have to say it suits my needs perfectly.
No bad reflection on TomTom, though. It is a good application in its own right, but iGo is just that bit better for me.
I'm with you xma1e - CoPilot 8 is great software. Have it on my Diamond. I've tried a few others, but I like the look and feel of CoPilot. Hey, even Smartphone and PDA Essentials give high marks to CoPilot 7 and 8.
El Mono
the one and the only ... AutoMapa...

I don't know if people haven't tried Route 66 but I find it fantastic.
Great mapping in Ireland & UK and recently I used my Diamond for a 2500km trip around Canada and I found the Route 66 maps worked flawlessly.

Did anyone try Wikango?

is an application that warns you for fixed and mobile traffic control spots and radars. It's already used widely in France and Spain. The good thing is that it is cross platform. However, I didn't find any cab for windows mobile yet. I would certainly like to try if it works, before spending e25 on it. Strange thing by the way is, that for Android it costs e10 in the android store.
wikango.com
Currently it looks like Wikango can't be downloaded. If you select the mobile list and select a phone, you will get redirected to the "buy" page instead while it can't be bought at this time. Funny thing.
you're right. They claim though to have thousands of users already!
Since you need a critical mass of users to have accurate information on radar locations, I'm very charmed by the idea of a cross platform solution like this, especially because of the ever increasing amount of smart phones.
Btw, a friend of mine bought it in the android store for e10, and it works great, I've seen it on his HTC Hero. Strangely it's free for iphone in the appstore.
Trapster
Why not try Trapster. It should work on WM
Thanks, that looks like a great tip! I'll be checking that out, see how good it is in my region.
Wikango on Android is a bit of a rip off, as they charge about 10€ for it when the iPhone version is free.
Since they released the first version, there has been no update.
Wikango runs fine on HTC G1 or Hero, but does not work on Droid and Nexus One, although there is no such info on Wikango's web site.
Finally, the devs are not answering to emails.
I have used it a lot on my G1 and, price set appart, I have been quite pleased even if, as I mentionned, there has been no updates and bugs are left uncorrected.
Since I switched to the NExus One, I'm simply unable to use it anymore :-(
Waze
Waze is well worth taking a look at too.
Great! I'll check out Waze too!
I've tried Trapster for some time, and it's not stable enough at the moment on my Topaz. When a phonecall or any other program pops at the front, the Trapster application loses its Google Maps connection, causing you to drive in a blue screen instead of on a map. It's not mature yet on WM and the devs don't respond to my message.
Trapster
Yes, I tried Trapster on my Topaz but found I could not get any display most of the time. Waze seems much better, and copes with occasional loss of data connection (important when your route home is through the countryside!)
Yeah, Waze is stable on my device. And it's fun paving roads!!

GLONASS support

New app "(Samsung) High Fidelity Position" available in Marketplace seems to enable GLONASS support for (even better) GPS tracking.

Can't find it. Is that a cechz locale?
Seems it's not in the marketplace anymore, strange.
hmm :/
I *really* would have liked to look at THAT XAP file...
Would you be so nice and give us a rough translation of the two options in the screenshot?
Here's an English version:
Unfortunately, I do not have XAP either, it was direct download and install through Marketplace.
I can confirm, I downloaded it from marketplace when i saw this post, but now the app disappeared
there's italian language too

I rebooted my phone yesterday and it's there now , wasn't before
thanks to geronimo_cz, this app did not disapear completely - enjoy this XAP: http://www.uloz.to/10189517/high-fidelity-position-v1-0-0-0-xap
IMO it does nothing - at least nothing significant. No difference in accuracy or speed...
Possible reason was greatly described by user Tomula on czech forum here: http://smartmania.mobilmania.cz/forum/viewtopic.php?f=155&t=25992&p=222286#p222286
He found, that Qualcommu Snapdragon QSD8250 in Omnia does definitely not have GLONASS support, so this app is probably for future devices with new GPS chip. Some sources are mentioned by him:
https://developer.qualcomm.com/discover/chipsets-and-modems/snapdragon
https://www.facebook.com/snapdragon/posts/189045881143225
v1.1: http://hotfile.com/dl/129241773/5affdde/high_fidelity_position_v1.1.0.0.xap.html
I'd love to have been in their office that day.
"Its uploaded now sir, all the Omnia 7 fans will get GLONASS support"
"Excellent."
*5 minutes later*
"TAKE IT DOWN TAKE IT DOWN, WE PUT TOO CHEAP A PART IN THE PHONE!"
Getting our hopes up like that. It's just shameful.
I receved update from marketplace
if glonass probably doesn't work, sure the first option works
They put the XAP to settings with this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17376642
I'm curious how the Glonass can work without a firmware update, doesn't it need different hardware/firmware?
Read the thread again - it was already mentioned, Omnia 7 lacks support of GLONASS in its chipset. This tool is probably designed for future device, but the first option (using aditional device sensors) may still work on Omnia 7.
With current firmware and drivers, it probably does not do anything - functional drivers for compass will come with official Mango release.
It's funny how there were some people who noticed "a substantial improvement".
So much for the placebo effect
when i installed it the 1st time i didn't notice big improvements, but after receiving the update i mentioned in my previous post, Bing maps started to point always north as I set in the preferences and the position was more accurate than before.
Here is the new version, 1.2.0.0: http://www.ulozto.cz/10339233/high-fidelity-position-v1-2-0-0-xap
