Honestly speaking i was fed up of GPS apps and maps...there wasnt a single free app which could just use my GPS chip and tell me without maps my heading, my altitude, my speed and my coordinates..
and which wud work purely on GPS chip..no data usage no need of downloaded maps..
i dont need maps all the time..i mean there has to be a way to use GPS without having maps.
so here it is:

found this cool app which is free for Xperia:
http://www.handango.com/catalog/Pro...25&platformId=30&productId=248650§ionId=0
u need to login to download but its free.
a very simple app which uses your GPS chip.
very useful when u r out there somewhere in the world.
it also gives u the sky view of how many satellites are there above u.
i guess all of u must be already knowing this
but i love its simplicity
I had no idea of it. Will try that! Does it use ONLY gps chip, no data transfer?

For anyone interested in different satnav options, I can confirm the new Route 66 mobile 8 works really well on the X1. Works great with the wvga res and the UK maps are Q3 2008 which is (I think) more up to date than Tomtom or Copilot 7.
is navigation smoother than tomtom's or iGO's navigation?
Find it pretty smooth. Ive only been using it a few days so havent much experience with routing yet but seems ok. It zooms in when approaching junctions as I believe tomtom does and no gps lag at all that I can detect. I havent tried igo 8. I fancied the 3D mapping but I think I read somewhere it doesnt support full uk postcodes. maybe someone can correct me if thats wrong.
Cool,
I'm thinking of buying it .. But don't now for shure..
I'm using igo8 at the moment, but i miss the speedcam and the traffic info!
Only thing that igo does have is a much better interface, wich is very usefull when driving..
For the dutchies:
Today you can buy it for 40 euro (EU version)
http://www.onedayonly.nl/bestel
Over time I have used them all.
I've been using iGo8 for some time now. In my opinion the best out there....hands down.3D rendering is excellent.
I recently used it in pedestrian mode to see the sites around Paris...fantastic and accurate.
Plenty of skins to choose from. Dimka Tomsoft is perfect for the Xperia. http://www.tomsoftware.net/default.aspx?pg=bfe66309-2007-4a7b-871d-4dee68e631c1
Speedcam data can be easily obtained and free traffic info comes via the built in RDS radio courtesy of beemer http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=512630

We have been using TomTom for years, but changed to Route 66 based on the fact that TomTom does not anymore supports only the software. Route 66 does a good job..
Has anyone experiences with the navigon mobile software?
wauw, that are some nice screenshots, how did you get that theme?
And, it's nice to hear that tmc works with that workaround, gonna try it tomorrow!

Hi all,
Thanks for your thoughtful comments. The reason I haven't replied directly to this thread is that I and my forum colleagues don't comment on the future availability or functionality for any Google products, including Navigation. That said, the development team and I are very, very aware of the desire to have an "offline" mode for Google Maps Navigation. We're currently exploring options about how to provide a better experience when in limited or no data coverage areas, so please look for changes to Navigation in the future. Thanks for understanding.
Best,
Tom

50% of the threads around here could be cut down by a simple Google search. And using Android, c'moooooon.
Did you try MapDroyd ? You can download the whole map into your sd but it doesn't have full functions as google maps

i DID use google and saw that its not possible yet according to those other forums/websites but i thought maybe the developers here on XDA had a hack for it. anyway thanks for the links everyone but i guess im just gonna have to wait
@EdwardUong, mapdroyd does not have navigation... it's just shows ur current GPS position...
@innisdb try AndNav2... it has offline maps & navigation... and it's free... http://www.andnav.org/index.php
You can also try Maverick...

Hi guys,
I'm just curious if is normal to get so many Awake locks, while the phone is on idle:

}
If is not, can you please tell me how I can fix this?
Thanks.
That don't look normal to me. Do you use latitude?
Latitude off, clear data and cache
Diced it here ... Too bad cause its a nice feature
I had this too.
Uncheck 'Use wireless networks' in the Location and security menu
and make sure you are signed out of Latitude
Ya I use latitude all the time so my friends know where I am.
I use latitude as well and I have the same issue. Maps gives a TON of wake locks with it activated. Problem is, I want to use latitude. I really don't understand the need for the constant awake time. It only updates the information every so often, it shouldn't be constant...
There is a defect for this bug that has been declined: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=15057. I hope google will get to it at some point.
Thanks for the link. I did a test and I get like 24 of battery with the phone on idle... IMO is an amazing time... I might be wrong. On my old Pre2, I could of only DREAM of such specs. Still, if there is a fix to improve the battery with Latitude on, I'll take it.
Let's see how 2.3.5 update goes. Anyone knows when is it scheduled on generic firmware?
Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with my XXKG3.
I got a Map update couple days back and the issue seems to go away. Will keep an eye on it.
Too bad, latitude is nice.
Had the same issue about one month ago , and solved it by uninstalling one of the google map update via Titanium Backup and everyting went back to normal .
May be it's related to one of those "updates" , and as mentioned before you should try updaing to latest version ( if available ) or downgrade to lower version .
I got myself an unlocked Note3 on launch day and since switching from Note 2 to Note 3 I've noticed that when my phone is in standby my location keeps going to somewhere off the coast of Berwick-upon-Tweed.
Wouldn't be so bad but I'm in the NorthEast of Scotland (up by Aberdeen) and it really throws stuff off why trying to use location based services in the first few minutes.
Has anyone else noticed this type of drift when sleeping?
If your location is being detected by mobile phone bases rather than gps it is probably due to the equipment in the base station having moved. This happens from time to time when a mobile operator fixes a fault at a base station and does not reprogram the cell id upon which the phone relies to get the location. There are some apps like Cellmapper that will let you see the cell ids that are supposed to be in an area and apps like Tasker that will get them in real time

but I am not sure that the list of locations from cell id is available on he internet any more.

Thanks I'll have a look at that.
Only thing is it doesn't really matter where I am but the false location is always the same.
I've seen this in Aberdeen city and also in Peterhead and Fraserburgh.
That's more inexplicable.....although there must be a reason!

Just glanced at my phone and my weather is for Bani Walid (in Libya). Is my phone trying to tell me something?

Hello
Attached is the kind of signal I get when I go for a run with my Xiaomi9t (MIUI 11 Global Version) and MiBand 3.

I went for run with my old Galaxy 7 and MiBand 3 and the signal was perfect.
The screenshot is from MiFit App but it's the same on MapMyRun as well. Weirdly enough GPS navigation in Google Maps works way better, I have no problem using it.
A lot of guides online suggest changing app specific settings, but I don't think that's it, I think it's to do with the device itself!
Any ideas?
What type of accuracy do you use?
Which app?
I use GPS everyday and never had an issue

I used "High Accuracy" and "Device only" (was recommended as a possible solution) but the result was the same.
The screenshot is from MiFit app, however, it looks the same in MapMyRun.
I can use GPS navigation in Google maps, but it behaves as I described when I'm trying to use it for tracking runs/walks etc.
I have same issue after update
MI 9T GLOBAL 11.0.4
GPS keeps jumping 10-100 meters every 5 seconds
My google timeline also have much more jumps cuts compared to before.
Pokemon go is unplayable
Hi,
I have the same problem. Using a speed camera app and the app says every 20sec no GPS signal.
Battery saving options are disabled, GPS high accuracy.
Hello guys, new here.
Im experiencing same issues, it was really bad, so i reseted my device. It is a bit better now, but the accuracy is still not well, in komoot or strava, my tracking lines are not straight, as i would be hardly drunk and move zig-zag around. I have disabled miui power saving options for all the maps apps, still it's not perfect and my device, tend to lose GPS signal frequently. any news on that or recommendations how to fix this?
