MISINTERPRETATION COULD MAKE YOU BLIND!
Ok you girls and boys,
I figured it's time for my traditional benchmark thread like on the Hermes, Kaiser, Diamond and Topaz.
First benchmarks are of the stock ROMs. In the attached sheet you also see some results of the Hermes, Kaiser, Diamond and Topaz, just for comparison.
As expected (and hoped!) the HD2 is much much faster than all the other devices...
[EDIT 27-12] First benchmark of cooked ROM (itje's), using bepe's SSPL
[EDIT 28-12] Added Coreplayer test as of today. I won't benchmark Coreplayer for the previous tested ROMs, that's too much work.
With one exception: the HTC stock 1.61 as reference.
I've integrated the coreplayer results in the main page.
[EDIT 03-01] Added 3 extra benchmarks in Coreplayer (the matrix files). I take the average of the 4 tests as new Coreplayer index.
[EDIT 09-01] Added pagepool size

For me this will be the first device that not only will never see a cooked ROM but will not even see a HardSPL.

Why? can you elaborate please ?
Is it because HSPL will not be available anytime soon as HTC is making it harder and harder?

Well, because first, I returned to stock ROMs on all my devices after trying lots of cooked ROMs and cooking myself and on the other hand, because HD2 is everything I need, there's no personal need for a cooked ROM as far as I'm concerned. It's all about personal preference.

Yes, pietrucci, since it's a phone Now seriously, there's nothing a custom ROM would do or have that could possibly make my device better from my point of usage and view. Speed is instant, memory is alot, no bugs so again, as far as I'm concerned, I'll stick to stock.
haha.. stuck to stock is the right word, LoL

At first I thought "my god, the man's gone raving mad!" but you have a point. There are a few annoyances, but nothing that really needs a custom ROM to sort it out.
If I didn't so much prefer the 6.5.x UI over 6.5 or the SenseUI overlays, I'd probably think the same.
Still, as a Mod, you're setting a terrible example.

Think of a new Opera, a new Manila, new keyboard, more multitouch functionality, even more memory... wouldn't you like all that precooked into the ROM?
I don't want to convince you, if you're happy with the way it's now, then enjoy it. Certainly saves you a lot of time!

Yes very very little (0,7% ).
Your graphics index is slightly better, the other two indices are a bit faster on my device.

Good idea. Thanks.
We needed this. Its hard to keep track of builds in all this chatter. This post should be stickied. Thanks.
Post should be stuck, BUT you need to annotate certain builds. The 2.0 builds don't work with the Vogue, there is no data or sound... Some of the others may be unstable. Check the threads and see what the deal with each build is.

Perhaps using an eclair themed build? I'm using one it's actually a 1.6 I beleive.

I think this thread was a good idea. Too bad it is not maintained. Unless there is some other way of easily locating all the different Android builds out there that I am overlooking...
I think we should organize it by chef so that each chef's most recent builds are lumped together. If a chef has more then one build a brief synopsis of what distinguishes one build from another might be appropriate. For example one might be a “bare bones” build and another might be “everything plus the kitchen sink” type build.
Just an idea...

That is a good idea, I would also suggest to add what works in the build and what doesn't (sms, camera, bt etc...) as well as speed, and if loadable via the memory card or NAND.
Cheers,

Oh man, thank you for this!
Great idea putting all these in one easy to find place. For sure needs to be sticky'd. Let's get some talk going about what the advantages are of each build.
After using most of these, SenseHERO is in my opinion by far the best build. So much more stable, really fast and a lot of fun to use. I'm getting more and more used to Android and could one day see using it full time on my Vogue.

is anyone working on Porting HD mini ROM (WinMo) to HD2 ?
since is meant to b official 6.5.3 ... btw i have noticed that on video on HTC SENSE home screen Windows and X (close) don't appear underneath SENSE but it dose in all Roms in here (unless i misunderstood something)
it be nice to see that ROM on LEO plus new lock screen looks cool
why would you want to port it to the HD2? The HD mini has a far lower resolution, thus making sense on the HD mini also in a lower resolution, that doesn't make .... sense??
im not tlaking about porting Sense, but the Official Version of WinMo 6.5.3 (HDmini is the first HTC device to run it) ... i assume it should b more stable
Well when we have the ROM then i am sure some stuff could be useful, I found some things out like it is build 23101. I would be interested about how we could remove the start button from our 6.5.3 ROMs

hmm, my assumption is that its maybe part of new SENSE version or just WM build specific, coz if it was a Registry thing im sure someone would of discovered it by now...
The point here is that this version of Sense is specificaly for WM6.5.3, the dailer is for WM6.5.3 and everithing is optimized for WM6.5.3! The only thing that is stopping me from using WM6.5.3 ROMs is the dailer pad icon bug! I hate the way it looks on WM6.5.3

I'm waiting for such a dump of this WM build since I saw the screenshots of the HD mini.

First really cool theme adapted to the Sense one, good soft-keys positionning and no stupid big bottom Start soft-key!! That's the WM6.5.3 finalized that we were all waiting for!!

put some black tape on the start button and you have a nice ported Mini softbar
Done! Lol!
No, positionning of the left soft-key would be still too far from the edge, which is ugly.
But, actually what's important also is that this HD mini's WM build is final, which means it has been tested and approved by MS, and improved by HTC. So, it means stability.

You are absolutely right. If you can get me a nice, new 6.5.x Mini rom I will see what I can do
there's no SHIP HDmini rom yet (unless I've missed it)
we do have test rom, but it's definitely NOT 6.5.3 and the bits from it aren't any more 6.5.3 compatible than the leo stuff we already have.
Alright, that explain why the HD mini locker which has been "cabbed" a few days ago is so buggy and laggy... it has been extracted from a test ROM. Thank you for the information!
What do you mean about, it's not 6.5.3? You mean it's 6.5.5? By the way, I don't remember where I saw someone saying that it was a WM 6.5.3 build, so that totally could be a wrong information.
You lost me on the bit compatibility, could you explain?
personally i like the look of sense but it seems to kill the battery and slow the phone down, also chews up ram. i actually don't mind running vanilla with a droid or nexus themed launcher. im hoping when we do get the official 2.1 some of the devs here will not include sense in their roms.
so do you run sense or not?
I like vanilla android.. (darkstar theme) but currently using helix launcher..with weather widgets donate.. better cut for icons.. I do like sense.. but agree i think it does chew up ram and slow the phone down alot worse then my combo above.
I run Sense..................
havent ran sense since darchstar v1
I like Sense.
Sence is the reason i bought the Hero and not the Moment.
I like Sense, despite any performance drains. It's the main reason that I got a Hero.
But my last phone was a Touch Diamond, and the Hero is pretty much a Diamond with android; at least in a general form-factor/interface sense.
Sense was one reason I got this phone over the moment, and I only heard bad review about the moment.
I general don't use sense. I like the music app for it and the lockscreen, but thats about it.
Waiting for v2 of darchdroid to be a daily then i ditch legend again

Exactly, I bought the Hero for Sense UI.
I bought ther Hero because of Sense UI. I wonder why people got the Hero if the moment is basically the same without sense. Could be because the styling is better, IMO. I just like the look of sense.
To each, his own.
However with all the apps out there you can almost get vanilla to look like sense. But, the setup I have on my phone it's pretty damn quick. Every once in a while there is a quirk here or there, but overall I fell it is better.

kinda pointless as every current winmo rom has sense anyways, it's not just android specific now. i bought the hero because it's android, i hated winmo and of course the android market is pure win! the hero without sense is super fast.
Sense is nice with all the widgets, but it bogs the hell out of a phone that already is stingy on RAM to begin with... honestly i don't use all that social network ingtegrated Sense stuff which is HTC's claim to fame for Sense cuz it's easier for me just to get on the mobile version of the website nd view everything from there. Nd like someone else said, vanilla can be practically customized to like almost like Sense so the looks definitely don't woo me. Also remember Sense is the reason why we don't have 2.1 yet... i wish they would release the vanilla version for those who chose to run it instead.
I've had the moment and the the hero now, i prefer the hero, but use helix. seems a bit faster and i like the fact the home screen rotates. Hell with swype ya dont even need a keyboard anymore.

I think you somehow managed to completely miss my point. Please attempt to improve your reading comprehension skills, thank you.
I have never had that bad of a problem with lag besides the stock rom. Once you put on almost any custom rom most if not all of the issues are gone. I got the phone for sense and never turn it off.
I use Sense
Partially because I really like the look over stock boring Android, I mean really, it looks like early linux gui's or old versions of windows, boxy and plain. I also am a salesman by profession right now, I have to sell the silly thing, and coming up this summer, I will hopefully be selling the Evo too, which I'm quite excited about.
I normally would be one to trim everything for speed. I don't run ANY of the 'windows xp look' stuff on my XP based laptop because its too slow, I shut off most of the eye-candy in Linux because its too slow, but on a phone.. I kinda like it to look nice, the HTC widgets are downright schmexy.
I use sense, because its much sleeker to demo for a customer, and because it is smooth enough (on custom ROM's at least...) and visually appealing enough to use on a daily basis.
I dont use sense because it doesnt seem to like JIT at all. Nothing htc likes it.
I'd like to try literally every Desire HD or Z ROM out there to find what the smoothest one is... No overclocking allowed (SetCPU is OK to setup profiles/governor), no data.img , no EXT2/3/4 involved. The problem is that when working 70+ hours a week, you simply don't have a lot of time to try them all! Plus I depend on my phone for work emails - I can't go without it too terribly long!
In YOUR experience, what is the most smooth and stable Desire HD or Z ROM out there? (FOR TMOUS Branded HD2)
NO - I don't give a rat's rear end about quadrant scores - I am talking about real life speed and lag (or lack there of!) Overclocking for me has done nothing but cause the phone to run slower and less reliably, so I'd rather stick at stock speeds or an extremely modest overclock.
I'm currently running MDJ's CyanogenMod7 2.6 - it's wicked smooth, but I can't help but miss a lot of what Sense offers.
Any input is greatly appreciated!
these kinds of questions are looked down upon in forums, mostly, as conditions always change,
but some say DL DesireZ is the smoothest out there at the moment.
I haven't personally tried it, though
Go to the android dev section at htcpedia.com and download DesireHD-Version of mcmmjoon (currentlx version 5.1) The ROM also achieves 2mAh in Standby!
You cannot get the ROM here because mcmmjoon was kicked from the boards.

I used to be adamant about having Sense, couldn't stand the stock Froyo UI. Then I tried WP7, and that lived all but 2 hours on my HD2 - that's one limited UI and phone OS. After that, I switched to MDJ's CM7 - and loving it for speed and smoothness.
I've been looking for widgets that would be as informative as those in Sense, and found the following solution, which works great for me:
a. Launcher Pro Plus - paid software, but comes with really nice widgets for calendar, "Friends Stream", contacts. Similar to Sense. Nice transitions. Highly recommended.
b. Fancy Widget - clock / weather similar to that of Sense, limited to one city. Paid version supports skins, and HTC 7 is almost an exact replica of that in Sense.
c. You may try Beautiful Widgets as well - has some goodies.
d. DialerOne (free) supports contact search from the phone keypad.
With all this, I'm fine with the rest of the UI, and the speed cannot be beat.

I totally agree, mdj cyanogen mid seven is my daily. Sense looks better, and sometimes may be more intuitive or user friendly, but my god that gingerbread rom is blazing fast.
On another note, I liked beautiful/fancy widget as my clock until I found simi clock. This widget displays time, weather, and even battery percentage in one row. And it looks really simple and minimalistic, which I personally love
Edit: forgot to mention, the only thing the desire hd builds have over mdjs seven is tmous mms fixed. Still can't get mine to come in as well as on cmys build.

Go to the android dev section at htcpedia.com and download DesireHD-Version of mcmmjoon (currentlx version 5.1) The ROM also achieves 2mAh in Standby!
You cannot get the ROM here because mcmmjoon was kicked from the boards.

I've decided to run it Retro for a little bit. This is a 2.1 Sense ROM based on the March 2011 OTA for the HTC Eris. As of right now everything seems to be working very smoothly. The Rom is default O/C at 710400 with on demand governor. Min CPU speed default is at 19200. You can easily change the cpu speeds and governors with setcpu or Conaps CPUBoost. I've also went ahead and changed the kernel to zanfurs kernel by popular request. If you want to use Conaps it can be flashed from recovery. There's also been a ton of other tweals I've added with some help from HaRdC0r3 so a big thanks to him for his input on this.
credits:
zanfur - kernel
btfb0 - all his work catching the OTA and sharing with us
Make sure you perform a nand backup before flashing. Also.. as always, what you do with your device is you're ultimate decision. No one has told you nor forced you to do anything so if anything happens to your device it's no one's fault but your own.
I recommend a full wipe on this update. All updates after this I plan to try and keep as dalvik only.

I'm hoping to have this ready to post later tonight or tomorrow morning before leaving for vacation. I decided to go a little retro on a new ROM for something different since it's been a while and GB and CM7 are getting all the attention lately lol. This ROM is 2.1 Sense and based on the March 2011 OTA. With conaps cfs v9 kernel.

I'm actually pumped to try this. It should be pretty snappy since it being 2.1. Hows it going on it?

It's there now lol
I wouldn't mind going back to Sense for some nostalgia, but I'm not sure if its worth dropping GB.
From what you got tested before the phone decided to go parachuting, minus the parachute, how does it compare speed wise compared to GB ROMs?

I honestly didn't think there was much difference in speed. I also had not o/c'd it at all. I was running it at stock which is 528. It can easily be oc'd with conap's CPUBoost or Set CPU as well. But I personally didn't think it was a noticeable difference from GB.
Dude you got a sick sense of development
Welcome to porting...
Ok. I flashed this bad boy last night. It is very smooth and fast. Of course it is 2.1 though. But really to me, when you have a phone like the Eris, trying to put 2.3 on it is pointless. Im liking this Rom. Plain and runs great. I think a black keyboard with white and gray lettering would be awesome. Good job man

Edit: I have found one problem. GAPPS is force closing on me. Every few minutes it will do it.
Edit 2: the market for some reason won't start downloads at all. It was working last night. I have cleared cache and uninstalled updates still nothing
im liking the background lol do i flash gapps still? and will that sense theme work that you made for tazz's rom? or is that a different 2.? thingy lol

Out of curiosity, why do you feel this way?
I have tried many of the 2.3 Roms on my Eris and have always had a great experience with them. 2.1 wasn't bad either. It was the trivial things that made me want to leave 2.1 and try a newer rom.

Well every 2.3 Rom I have tried hasn't been the smoothest. I was just saying that the Eris is getting dated. It is cool though that we are able to put it on if we want to. 2.1 is just so smooth that I find it hard to leave. I like both sense and aosp but if I can find a smooth sense Rom, ill take that any day.

Thanks. I am with you on Sense. I have always enjoyed it. It's what drew me to the HTC offerings when I dumped ATT and my iPhone.
Just 2.1 underneath made a little less enjoyable for me. Not that it wasn't smooth or anything like that but things like when I get a notification while I am listening to music or an audio book. In 2.1, the music or the book keeps playing even though the volume for it is replaced by the notification sound. In 2.3, the same actually pauses plays the notification sound then resumes.
I am enjoying Tazz Ginger Sense.
As you guys may know I was away for a little bit. I'm back and have some other things taken care of and I'll be looking into these problems some of you have posted and working on and update soon...
