I was wondering if there was a way to push mail without the use of Exchange.
Everything I have seen leads to no, but if I have noticed one thing around here, is that you folks don't seem to like NO very often... kinda like my wife.
www.emoze.com
I use it and it is close to perfect for me.
It's free, simple, installs on your Desktop PC and a client on your TYTN. I programed it to push every 10 minutes - more than enough for me.
Thanks...
Have to wait for the VISTA version (and probably office 2007 as well)

There are currently problems with push & Kerio. I have submitted a ticket before
Christmas and the bug is being looked into. Hopefully fixed in their next release.
If you have Cingular you can get Xpressmail Personal Edition.
is there anyone who knows if it is possible to change the name from Emoze to something else? (account name)
pb with emoze is you have to have PC connected all the time, otherwise no email is pushed forward ... just my 2 cents ...
Sure you do. Your PC is your server so it has to be on all the time. What is the problem with that?
You could just use a free www.mail2web.com exchange account. If you want to change the outgoing email address all you pay is $1.99. I went from 1and1.com exchange to there service and its about the same minus customer service.

I thought you can set your pop3 email to check it a certain interval in minutes...like..1, 2, 3 miniutes, etc...
I have it set up on mine...so it does log into your pop3 server...and it is free with no additional software. I forgot where to go and set the time interval.
Wratran,

If memory serves correctly, it is in the "Accounts" tab of the program.
Yep its in accounts then follow the setup thing until you get to servre information and then click on the options button
I wish there was a way to make it check every day though instead of the max being every hour.
Cheers
Beware Emoze...if you leave the default settings you might end up draining your battery if you're constantly in a 3G area. My wife's 8525 was like this...it checked almost constantly and the 3G use would drain the unit to half battery about 3 hours after being unplugged from the charger. Thankfully she's on unlimited data so I don't have to worry about the bill .
Install her EMOZE on a memory card instead of the main memory. This will make a difference and also it won't drain the memory. Also have her install the Band Switch program and stay on GSM most of the time. If she requires large downloads she can switch to UMTS for a limited time.

that is what I usually do, except I don't use emoze but the trick is worth been mentionned.
You can use OpenPush by ivorh, see this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=279369
on most of the latest ROM's, the messaging client will check at least every 5 mins. Im on Black 2.5 and I am someone that goes back and forth with people with Sidekicks and its enough for me to check every 5 mins vs. spending money and setting up new accounts.
Go Mail messanger > Options> highlight and select the account you want to change >Next till you see advanced settings> under automatic send receive select interval.
I stayed on WM5 til this was available on WM6. Why pay for push?
Hi All,
I'm looking at upgrading my phone. Last night someone stole my BlackBerry 8120... I loved that phone! I was able to do all my work emails, surf facebook and browse the internet fairly easily.
I have read a lot of mixed reviews regarding the X1, however I do seem to like the look of them... A LOT.
Now, am I able to receive all my emails fairly easily and manage them the same as I would with a BlackBerry? Does it have Facebook applications and MSN messenger...
Any "beginners advice" would be great
Thanks,
Amnesia
^^windows live messenger is already preinstalled. u can get the facebook panel and windows live panel in norti's sticky thread.

i'm WM beginner from symbian, just owning x1 for third only what I can say is WM need your patience to getting started, lot's of tweaks and softwares to try and to learn. the uses requirement that you asked above can easily done on xperia. anyway, I feel good with my xperia now and it's games much better than symbian one,hehe... plus I reply this message using x1 now^^ so, join us, xda has cookies ))
p.s. what I watched on youtube was the blackberry storm bootup in few seconds! looks miracle....
unfortunately Windows Mobile is much slower than BlackBerry's interface.........
but at least it's the most versatile mobile platform in the world hehe.
ive never owned a blackberry, and the x1a is my first winmo phone too. i like the x1a, only downside is the screen is a little to small for me. i mean the screen resolution is awesome but i sure wish the screen could have been bigger. i mean 3.2" at least. it may not seem like a big difference in numbers between 3 and 3.2 but it is.
if your happy with blackberry's email, i would stick with it and maybe get the storm.
if u dont want touchscreen..then BB Bold is one of the best smartphones out there...very fast interface.
my dad has it.

Thanks for that link.
So, this will convert my Winmo to BlackBerry Operating System?
I've read through the topic and I didn't see a mention of it working with o2 UK.. Are these things usually easy to install? Would I need to pay o2 for a BlackBerry tariff... or will unlimited internet tariff still be sufficient?
The problem is, I liked my 8120... but I don't want to ugrade to another 8120, that would be silly! I also like the Storm (but not available on o2). However, the Bold is slightly too big for what I'm looking for... (and has a smaller screen than X1).
However, if you're all saying you like X1's, i think I might give it a shot.

Which unfortunately for some unknown reason refuses to work on the X1.
There are other "push" solutions out there including the built in ActiveSync (which works with Hotmail), but if your work server has BES then you might be stuck.

No, our work server does not have BES. I just set it up as a normal email account and every 15 minutes it pushes my work emails through.
Surely if the X1 has Winmo I can just set up my email address as normal through the email client, and set it to send/receive every 10 minutes or something?
Just my two pennies worth having had Blackberrys, quite a few Symbians, the iPhone and now my fourth WinMo...
going to WinMo is about getting the flexibility to have almost anything you want, BUT also having the frustrations about bugs, some incompatibilities, flashing new firmwares all the time, etc.
So, if you're patient, willing to use the search button and share you experiences with others, in my view Windows Mobile is the best thing out there today.
Otherwise, get a blackberry or iphone. They rarely crash or go wrong, but are a bit limited.

You can do that, and if you have an Exchange server its possible to have true push with ActiveSync.
BadTasteUK; thanks for your input. I have had an o2 XDA before... and that was Winmo. I thought it worked pretty well.
To be honest, I'm not a huge techie, and probably won't be tweaking anything major on the phone. However, I do like the flexibility and option of being able to do so... Hopefully the phone won't have a memory leak my BB 8120 did... my text messages would often delete at least once day due to running out of memory on the phone.
i got a bb bold and a xperia, both are excellent devices i find the bb more stable and faster, the xperia is more configurable and there is loads of software for it ie youtube.
at the moment the bb suits my needs so im using that. it all comes down to what you wanna do with the device.
I suppose all I want to do is use the phone mainly for calls, texts, facebook and searching the internet if I need a phone number, or google maps if I'm slightly lost etc.
Other things that I will be doing from time-to-time. Checking email and occasionally replying to them.
Things that would be nice; Youtube.
Overall, I'm sure I will be more than happy with either the BlackBerry Bold OR the X1... However, the X1 is smaller and has a bigger screen... that will be better for me.
PLUS - It's something "different" to the BlackBerry I have been using over the past 12 months... will give me something to play with for endless hours.
Looks like you've made up your mind Amnesia...
... the pun wasn't intended, honest!

Hello,
Before I consider switching from my TP2 to the HD2 I do have two simple questions about this device:
- With an exchange account, in the Sense UI, when you add an appointment do you have real categories or hardcoded one like in the TP2 (business, seasonal, ...)? Hardcoding such a thing is so stupid/lame
- How long does the phone last with exchange mail push and moderate use? 1 day, 2 day, more?
I was not able to find those info anywhere.
Thank you!
cant answer the first as i dont use it
you will be lucky to push a day from the battery
I easily get two days from my battery with moderate use.
In moderate use I get two days, too. Never run out of battery during a day, when close to full charge in the morning, even under heavy use.
new appointment on sense calender gives personal, seasonal, business etcetera, while new appointment through the wm calender app shows all your sync ed categories to choose from.

Haaa this is SO stupid! I wonder why no one else cryed about it!
I just discovered this with the TP2 so called update. Breaking this feature is so meaning-less.
I don't think that I am going to spend any more money on HTC's devices if they break business feature for useless features.... If I wanted a toy I would have bought an iphone!
@TomH01: When you said two days, was it with push always on?
No that's without push as I don't use it.
Thank you everyone for all those info, as the situation is quite as bad as with my TP2 I'll stick to it
So far I am ok. But the phone does have some issues that are offset by some features.
My HD2 was rommed with the Energy Rom
Manila 2.5.20161332.0
Radio 2.12.50
Protocol 15.40.50.07U
Battery sucks period..my tweaks = using 2G, screen brightness to half, still sucks
Opera browser sucks looks Blackberry like..My Mytouch browsed the web so much better
Google maps looks like crap? Again the Mytouch looked way better and had the my location feature
Market App is ok but apps like Shazam are trial based and then you have to pay for music tags? On Andriod free music tags
Tried to add a pop3 email account was able to receive email but not send them out as they would get stuck in the outbox
The good points
Twidriod is replaced with Touchtwit which is good
Calander and Contacts sync with my Outlook
I use my phone for business so Calander and Office is a great future
I can use the phone as a modem to get internet on my laptop (HUGE PLUS)
Way better Camera and Video then the Mytouch
Transformers 1 and 2 on the phone ( had some video playback lag?)
Over all I am happy with this phone...Hoping in the future that Andriod will be able to go on or maybe I will go windows since I use it everyday on my laptop
ok give Midomi a try on the open market better than shazam, which also gives you a better market place,
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/omarket/
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-midomi.html
Battery life get used to it most of us get a day maybe a little bit more,
get the new google maps, put it in satellite mode looks normal to me,
email make sure your account is setup to send and receive through a phone, and you have set it up correctly on the phone, hotmail is a ***** to setup if thats what you trying
Yes, the meaning of the expression "battery sucks" is really vague.
With light to moderate use, realistically two calendar days.
Heavy usage will last one and a half calendar days.
Wishing or demanding anything more than that, might as well turning off your phone most of the time while not in use, you can last 3 to 5 days with that *method*
(A calendar day is based on 10 work hour of the phone).
Hello my friends. Thank you in advanced for any help/input you give.
Here's my thing.. I am an avid M$er (yes I know, but I get as much good from it as the bad). I'm a professional IT guy, and I run my home network on Enterprise lvl MS Server software and Windows on all PCs.
I have been using WinMo since the days of PPC, so I know the software. I decided to give WP7 a test run (even knowing the limitations) a couple months ago, and still am disappointed. Unfortunately I got stuck with it till now, because just after I installed it my personal Exchange server crashed. It's significant because it holds all of my contact info and schedule (for backup and retrieval when I change roms), so I had to wait till I had time and patience to recover the server and my database, which left me with my only current copy of info on the phone as it couldn't get pushed back to the server to store (I never put my info online so no uploading it wasn't an option for me).
Finally exchanger recovered, its time for me to be rid of this headache of a mobile OS and initially I was going to go back to my favorite HD2 WM6.5.3 rom, but when I finally visited the thread, I came back to realize my fav rom cooker is no longer developing for my device..
So I'm faced with the choices of still using the most current from my fav cooker, finding another WM cooker and get acquainted, or try out Android seriously for a little while at least (I've had it on SD from the beginning, but not definitively explored it).
My main thing is it has to connect to my servers. That's my bread and butter so to speak. I need it to connect to my Exchange and sync seamlessly contact and schedule (main things, but would definitely like as much sync as possible), but never upload my info to Google or anywhere else. So my first proviso is can it do that? (please remember I've never seriously explored Android for this intent), and can you provide info on it?
On remote desktopping and file sharing, like I said I have enterprise lvl servers so my network is high lvl security, can it connect to this kind of network (with certs from my CA)?
Third important thing to me, and one of the big reasons I dislike WP7, the interface. I'm in lust with HTC's sense from WM6.5 roms. Absolutely like it. Is there a way to at least mimic this sense? I've been missing the at-a-glance full screen weather updates soo much too.
Aside from those things, Android on HD2 already has a plus from me for having flash, my favorite IM program (Trillian), and the wifi calling (I live in an area where I don't get service till I'm miles from home).
So with those things in mind, can someone recommend Android to me, and possibly give me as much info as they can on the features that are most important to me? Again, I've played with Android, only a little (American Android currently), and mostly to help clients and friends out.
Thanks again for your help

Thank you PresidentMcCain that is very favorable info. So my question is now, if I set Exchange up as primary email, then add my google account, will it try to sync my exchange contacts with google?
Have you looked at Appbrain website - you can explore all the apps on the market with a good description.
Im new to android (from long standing 6.5 use) and im extremly impressed, using sd method so i can fall back on 6.5 if i need it (), but it wont be long before its ditched.
You can choose specifically what or what not to sync with Google the first time when you boot up the ROM or in the Settings.
Using the "Email" app will not sync with Google servers unless you choose to forward your mail to your Gmail account (duh).
Thanks again. So what about calendar and other info synced with exchange, one note, sharepoint ect?
You can sync your contacts, tasks, messages and calendar from exchange (all of it, or you can choose which sections to sync), and it will never share it with Google for no reason (in fact you would have to explicitly copy the info yourself using import/export methods). It's worth noting that Google accounts themselves actually use exchange so both work similarly.
Sent from my HTC HD2 überphone
Thanks kbm, I didn't know about the site. But that will be very helpful if I switch.
Thanks Atomix86, That puts to rest my questions about connecting and syncing with my exchanger. Very helpful info indeed.
Anyone have any thoughts about the rest?

No problem at all, let me know if you need any more help.
Looking at the link PresidentMcCain posted, I realized the info was for Exchange 2003 and 2007. Will this also help for connecting to Exchange 2010 as well? That is what my exchange server is, and remembering a friend who just got a Mytouch 4g recently was having a problem connecting to Exchange 2010 with the default app.

Maybe this might help. I read it this morning than came across this thread.
i dont know about exchange accounts. So if this is what you needed than its all good.
Thanks czarsuperstar, that app would help with note syncing, but looks like not for connecting to Exchange 2010 in general.
I was on winmo for a while and loved it to be honest but i went to sd android back in January an the google syncs convinced me and not long after i got nand and Ive not once looked back, i went back on winmo about a month ago just to see whats new etc and think i had it on for about 20 miutess before i flashed android straight back so its always worth a shot so id test the sd builds first to get your own opinion and then build on from there
Good luck and enjoy the future....
