Hi,
my Trackball LED is always on. It goes on when I press the power Button!?
This does not happen after a new flash or software installation - after a day of normal use! The Led is not full on, so if a SMS arrive it still flashes. And: It is also on when the Phone is switched off and on the charger... ???!!!
Thank you for your help
same problem here, was on for about a month! constantly draining my battery.... then this evening, on the train ride home, it flickered, and then it was off. I was so happy that I decided to open up my phone and dust it out just to make sure.... AND NOW IT'S BACK ON! sorry for caps, a bit of venting required.
anyways, for those who might be able to help:
-it seems more like a physical thing (flickering, opening phone up made it come back, comes on as soon as power on)
-The trackball+light is a self contained unit, and I didn't have canned air on hand to give it a blow. (doesn't seem to be any benefit in opening the phone, you get as much access to the trackball with it closed)
PS: no amount of hitting the phone, or cursing at it makes any difference, applying pressure is just as useless.
some ppl would pay for having that one on
the battery drain cant be that much

Ok so I was so happy that I finally got XDA live .2 running on my 1.5 month old Hermes. This site has helped me to no end. Being completely new to the Windows mobile platform, I've made it a point to check the forums here every day and read up on issues/tricks & tips. My utmost respect to the folks here at XDA-Developers. In fact I just contributed some money I was so thrilled. I never had to post a question before.
Short lived :-(
Due to my own stupidity. I dropped my Hermes on the carpeted floor in my office. Now it wasn't a huge hit to the unit. It fell 2.5 feet and it was carpet.
I picked it up and hit the power key (It was sleeping before I dropped it) but no joy. I yanked the battery, waited a minute, replaced it. No Joy.. I've tried lots of stuff
1) With battery in place, soft reset
2) Without battery in place and attached to power.
3) removed battery, waited an hour, replaced battery. No power on. Re-attached power.. No power on.
So long story short, I can't power it up. I get a red light when attached to power with or without battery in place.
I am screwed? I'll cry! I have removed the sim-lock and I am Super CID on the phone. It's over a month old from Cingluar. Do I have any hope of getting it fixed/replaced/someone here suggesting a fix?
Any help appreciated. I saw a post on the red light when charging but nothing so far has helped.
I know they are many genius' here. I'll donate more to this awesome site regardless of getting this fixed. I just hope I don't have to fork out another $500 for a new unit.
What we don't know in your case is whether dropping the device has just triggered the infuriating Red LED issue that will come good or whether more serious damage has occurred.
You say you read a post re this and I assume it was this one?

The one thing I did not see that you tried is having charger plugged in with battery out and whilst remaining connected inserting the battery. Wait several seconds, hopefully LED changes to amber. However, though frustrating it may be worth repeating this kind of thing repeatedly until you are bored to tears! I say this because some folks find that it just seems to start eventually but they've tried so many things they cannot pin down what exactly the solution was.
If it's more serious - which I rather doubt (only 2.5ft to a carpeted floor) then you could try a disassembly and reconstruction. (I'm assuming you do not have warranty) I suggest this as the first time I got this, this is what I did and on re-assembly - hey presto it worked. Did not actually do anything but perhaps it helped with a loose connection or helped discharge the circuits and reset charging function??

Hi,
had the same issue! No function, only red light - with/without/new power plug, accu - only red light.
My device only layed on my table at home - overnight crash effect...
I had to bring in the device to service...
Now i have a new one with higher s/n and all is good again...
best

Would having a second, fully charged battery help?
Sincerely,
Steve
It's going back to cingular.
Thanks for all the advice/help. Nothing seemed to work at all. Different battery, attching to power and inserting the abttery afterwards. However, I now can boot trhe unit, but I have to squeeze the sides of the unit (Or jam a piece os plastice bettwen the slide out keyboard) and the unit boots. Not very practical.
I contacted Cingular and a replacement is on the way. I put back on the original ROM that it shipped with and wiped everything else. I am Super CID, does this void my warranty? Will they even care? The issues is definietly HW so I hope they just can't power it up when they recieve it back. I'll play dumb anyway if they ask!
Now it's just trying to survive the next few days with either my SE P900 or My S710 (Sniff... sniff.. I want my Hermes back already)
Thanks again to all who posted advice.
hey guys i need a little help, everything was working fine and then i turned the phone off and then turned the phone back on. All it did was go to the screen smart mobility and then shuts back down. Any clues ?? i just cant turn it on anymore.
i have the same problem
I turn on with a new rom my elfin and now does not turn un
Make sure your battery is fully charged. Try turning it on plugged in. Try using a different battery if you have one - If you don't have another battery and the one you have is old, it may need replacing. Turning on and then shutting off sounds like battery problems to me
I have another HTC Touch with a very similar problem. I think mine is due to minor water damage though (water balloon hit my pocket, unlucky huh?). It's been dead for about 4 months. It "MIGHT" turn on after a few weeks leaving it alone, then reach Smart Mobility screen and then turn off... permanently for a few weeks.
When I normally try to turn it on, I can hear a distinctive high-pitched noise coming out of the back, it'll stay like that until I rip the battery out.
Every few weeks I hope to get it booted long enough to maybe flash a new ROM, or IPL/SPL. I don't know what to do with it. Maybe some boot file or the hard drive corrupted due to the water damage. No light, no response from other batteries, no light via USB cable, just a slight high pitched noise. To this day, it is still dead.
Greetings!
Ok, so friend got a Fire for the holidays and asked me to root it for her. *shrug* Sure!
Come here, download the goodies, get it set with CM7, and send her on her way working fine. She calls me a few days ago saying that the device is acting strange and that the device is having issues staying on, and/or charging.
**I should note this started after she tried to change the wallpaper.
She brings it over tonight, and I notice the power light on the bottom is staying on all the time. I rolled everything back to factory, we set her account back up, yet that damn button just glows as red as Rudolph's nose. Well, we dont need to deliver toys through fog anytime soon "that I know of", so guessing I need to figure out how to get this power light to go out.
I have done like 5 hard resets, and nada, even when the unit is off, the button and light are still on.
Any help would be awesome!
Thanks in advance!

**** Solved ****
So yeah, turns out that the kindle had been dropped and "someone" failed to tell me this. So this was actually a two part problem. The first was the tablet locking up, which was due to her screwing with the wallpaper it seems, and the second was the power staying on all the time.
Wedged the back off it a tad and whamo, the power button started to act all normal and whatnot... *bangs head on desk*
Thanks to androidcues for the heads up on the cover! Oh, and she looks SMOKIN in a bikini... why do you think I spent so much time on her tablet =P
no glue why this happens - maybe a complete battery drain restores the behavior to normal
Well, one 10 hour epic sax guy youtube video later, I have a dead battery that I was able to recharge and still this power button wont stop glowing...
next step, the pool?
what happens in recovery? does it charge in recovery? does it have TWRP? or CWM?
are battery stats truly truly clean and wiped? Im not sure if I believe the battery geeks but they say to charge all the way and then wipe stats or the other way around, whatever it is...
so, when its OFF, and NOT plugged into any power source.. the light stays on? is it ever green? its always the amber glow? (mine is amber, not rudolph red nose raindeer putting up wallpaper and listening to saxophones on youtube)
Have you pulled off the back cover? I know its on tight but the tear down shows it comes off and then a battery pull? Do you have another KF around? I dunno, just tryting to help out there!
as for the pool...hows she look in a bikini?
I used my Aquos Crystal all day. The last time I remember using it was around 4:00 pm. By 5:00pm, my phone was shut off. It wont turn back on. I tried the down volume button and power button trick and it didn't work. Any other ideas? And no it isnt completely dead. It had half of it's battery life.
I can get a new one for free with my warranty but before I do that, I wanted to see if there was any other way to turn it back on.
Thanks in advance!
Try putting your phone on the charger and see if the screen turns on. Just because your phone may have had ~50% doesn't mean that something(s) was running and completely drained your battery.
We don't have root so there isn't a way I can see you doing anything to the software that would cause your situation. That's why I believe your battery is dead.
I know this is probably too late for the original poster, but I have the same symptoms. I added the volume button/power app as well. But if my phone goes completely dead that doesn't work. i found that if I take a small object, like a screwdriver, knife, key, and press really hard, when I let go it will usually come back on, YMMV, but that has been working for me for about a week. I came here looking for a better option, but until I find one, or the phone completely dies, I am left with this fix...
Good luck...

Nice tip!!! Used butter knife, pressed REALLY hard, fixed problem. Life saver!!! Thanks!!!
Try holding the upper right corner (not the absolute corner but slightly inward underneathe the power button) tightly enough and while doing that press the power button.
I've have had the phone for 2 years and it had been working fine until last summer, where I had accidentally left it in my trunks pocket when I went out swimming, It had to be underwater for like 10 minutes or so before I realized it, thankfully, we were on holiday in Turkey at the time so I could leave the phone (without a lid or battery) on the balcony for days to dry. And eventually, it worked! But that came with a few issues.
1. The phone would shut off randomly.
2. Had to charge the phone to power it on.
3. The camera had a few dark spots where water got in.
4. When the phone was powered off it would constantly start beeping, the same beep you hear when I power it on.
5. Speakers are weak.
Nowadays, I am pretty sure all the water is out of the phone, and I am only having these issues now.
1. The camera had dark spots.
2. Speakers are weak.
But yesterday, things were getting weird, when I closed the phone (close the phone, not power it off), and I try to open it again, it would not open and would randomly make a beep sound, then the buttons on the bottom would light up, the only thing I can do to make it normal was removing the battery, when I did that I tried putting the battery back in, and it is back to making those beeping sounds I mentioned on point 4. So I tried charging the phone to power it on, and it still didn't do anything! I found the only way to power the phone on was charging it without the battery then waiting like an hour for the 'charging' sign to come up allowing me to power the phone and insert the battery back in. But it still won't open when the phone is closed (again, closed, not powered off).
What should I do?
Water got in. Deep. And the fact that it was not disassembled and let to dry made it worse. Water could have still been inside. And the fact that you still used it didn't help either. Time for a new device.

The thing is, everything works, It's just the hard procedure of powering it on. But yeah, I might as well leave it on forever with certain apps until its time is up. FPBP to you sir.
You could certainly replace the speakers and camera, but I for one have no idea what the heck is happening with the weird sleep issue (yes, closing the phone=putting your pc into sleep or hibernate). I say it could be a power button failure, but if you could order a new frame off of ebay and replace it, see if the issue is still here. And that's not a beep, that's a tune you hear when the phone powers on. Or the vibration? Please clarify.
