Pure speculation.
You might have one but that doesn't mean you know everything about them. Guessing why HTC does certain things and then telling it as fact is just wrong.
I emailed about this and they said surveys said people didnt use video calling, i must admit, my phone has the feature, but its just so expensive to use.
Would have been nice though

I agree. It would've been nice. The only time I used video call was when I had free video calls. Besides being expensive, i don't see much benefit having video in a call.

I agree.
Believe it or not, I use video call
My network operator (Telenor Serbia) applies same charge for both voice and video call, and also includes it in free traffic as a part of a contract. I myself am a frequent user of that feature because my job is 200km away from my hometown where my wife and kids are. Video call is the only way for me to see them almost every day. Apart from that (and occasional video surveillance by 3g cameras - our company has two of them installed) I almost never use video call. Main downside is a lag in conversation of approx. one second both ways which makes any serious conversation impossible. There's also a huge battery drain. So, it's quite understandable to me why most of people don't miss this feature on HD2.

Haha just for comic relief i wanted to start this thread :d
anyone else having huge problems with this phone when being drunk?
I accidently dropped the phone last thursday. I was in a club and my back cover flew off! Haha
I thought about this topic too, but I can't answer this question yet...
With my old D750 I was able to call any contact I wanted - at all time. Actually without dropping the phone or dial a wrong number
I don't know how, but I've managed it
You missed a few options:
"No, its just as hard to use SOBER never mind drunk!"
"Yes, but no harder than any other phone.".

Ah yes, i don't think there is a way to edit the poll though Are these options true for you? I think it's pretty easy when sober but my other phones were much easier when leaning against the wall of a bar and trying to text message with double vision lol
ahhahah when i'm really drunk i can't use my phone but i can't walk on my feet too

Well... maybe its better to not call when being drunk, so that you wont call people sleeping innocent at 4/5 in the morning.. i had that on my p990i the next morning i saw that i called 5 numers but that was much like 341426 and that number doesnt exists ..
i wouldnt risk damaging it lol...so i use my old w580i when i go out. But if i were drunk in the house with my x1 i'd probably say it was harder than some other phones simply cause of the touchscreen.
Maybe this is an idea for a new panel, one that is very easy to use when you are drunk and has taxis and kebab shops on speed dial, lol
Nice thread
I find the phone fine on most occasions, but like someone said a while back, never buy this phone for your girlfriend/mother/grandmother (unless they're relatively geeky and have a bit more patience than your average, erm, trying not to dig myself a hole here, but you get what I mean).
It's not the most intuitive phone to use, but when setup properly with a nice GUI it can be easier to use. It's just that with basic WM you have to be quite accurate with the stylus/finger. And as we all know, accuracy goes out of the window when you're drunk...

Ouch...the Nexus One took a panning
Considering how Apple biased these guys are, I think they must have been very impressed with the HD2. For me, the HD2 is the best phone available at the moment.

Also bearing in mind the review focused on two of the 'weaker' aspects of the HD2, the camera and text input, it just shows how good the HD2 really is (I personally think the camera is very good, up with my Ignito/Diamond if not better, and once I installed Swype - wow fantastic!)
I haven't had a single crash, no obvious issues with my 1.48 ROM + camera fix, totally happy so far

the region restricted video content has not been in place long. can't see the point of a site like others that restrict viewing to the UK where it airs anyway.
I always thought that the Gadget show was sponsored by Apple as they are so biased!
One thing though...Why didn't they include the Iphone as part of the tests?? surely that would have been a fair comparison....Well we all know that the Iphone would have been knocked off it's perch and they wouldn't want to show that!
I just switched from touch pro 2 and let me tell you... There is no comparison. I had TP2 for a year and almost everytime I had to do something fast, look something up or do somehing more complicated than calling - it would fail me. It led to a constant feeling of doubt and being unsure if it will just freeze when I need it the most.
N1 is freaking fast. Everything on it JUST WORKS. There is no guessing, like on TP2 - "omg I hope this launches.. I hope I don't have to soft reset.." - everything is integrated, every transition happens in a snap, every task you throw at it is handled immediatly and with style. It's a reliable life partner.
If you are undecided like I was a week ago about switching to N1, do it - you'll wish u've done it sooner.

Yes, I was pretty undecided up until now. I have a SE X1 and really, I know what you're talking about when you mention "doubt". I just hate the thing and WM makes it a nightmare. When I got my X1 I was thinking of keeping the phone for a long time, I wasn't expecting a $900 phone to turn out to be complete crap both hardware wise (flimsy, crappy keyboard, crappy paint, etc.) and software wise (WM!!!). Hopefully, I can use the N1 for a longer time with the updates and all...
I guess I'll be getting it now for sure, the only thing left to decide is whether or not it's worth it to wait the extra time to have it engraved...ha!

Dude, be VERY careful about the engraving.
Read the warranty policy - if you engrave it, it becomes a non-refundable phone that can only be sent in for repairs, if needed. Also, think if you'll want to sell it in a year or two.. nobody wants your "My name is John and I have a 12" tool" engraving.
Not that it's a bad service, just make sure you consider that.

I'm thinking that if I do want some "engraving" on it, I could get away with a transparent acid-sticker of a sort.. at least that I can remove and sell/return if need arises.
Although only death can separate me form my N1 at this point.
If Adobe would hurry and release the fully gpu accelerated flash player for this phone, I'd give it a 10 out of 10.
Seriously! The ipad / iphone guys are crying so hard about wanting html 5 everywhere because they're not allowed to have flash.. I worry that Adobe's missed the boat on this one.

Sadly, there's no such thing as a secondary camera or video call camera on the X10. At first I couldn't believe it too, but trust me, that little black lens on the top right corner of your Rachael is a proximity sensor
there is a small square, camera look-alike on the top on my white X10i.. i think this is just the so called Proximity Sensor.. Anyways thanks ..

Lots of phones made now do not have that front camera - but what the heck - who was really using that video call at the time since it came out?? I really can't think of one time it was to any good! Only deaf people have a little use of it, since they can "talk" via sign language...

Of course, you also have to worry about whether your phone is being hacked and will share that video conference worldwide on youtube.

Honestly, I don't think I would ever need that function on my X10 and plus...I keep all my secrets in my laptop XD
In Japan, all non-smartphones have secondary cameras.
In two years, how many video calls have I seen being made? One. How many times did I make a video call? None.
Video calls are more suited to laptops, not when you're walking around trying to get on a subway.

The International version (Samsung Galaxy S) and Sprint Epic 4G has front cameras. The Captivate and Vibrant does not.
I honestly don't get all the hype about front cameras. Why? What's the point?
It's new, untouched technology. Just because Apple marketed it doesn't make it a good idea.
Give it a year. I'm sure the "Galaxy S 2" will have one. Doubt it'll be a standard by then anyways though.

Yeah, that's what I used to think until...
I have an iPhone 4 and an i9000 (both have front cameras). I was testing both phones at the same time. I was going to return the iPhone in my first 30 days because iOS4 just isn't up to Android standards in my book. I also have a Nexus One on T-Mo that I mostly use as a WiFi hotspot.
I'd played with FaceTime once with my only other friend to have an iPhone 4. He lives in Florida, I'm in California and we wanted to check it out. No big deal on the first test.
One day I was driving to work and got the clever idea to connect the iPhone to the WiFi hotspot on the Nexus One. I then called my friend in Florida with FaceTime on the iPhone 4 and it worked just great over 3G. (You can also jailbreak the iPhone and use 3G Unrestrictor to just do it directly over the phone).
I had the iPhone 4 in a dash mounted holder and it was so cool. My friend's face was there on the dash and we were like in the car together. I still focused on the road, of course, but I could glance and see his face like you would with someone in the car with you when appropriate.
At one point he even asked where I was and I just switched the camera from front to back with the onscreen button and he then saw out the road as if he were riding in the car with me. Then I switched back.
We both really thought the experience enhanced the quality of our conversation. I decided to keep the iPhone just because of that.
So, yes, it's a new idea, and not a lot of phones have it, but even though Apple's ahead of the curve on that one, once more phones make it that simple to be face to face when you want to, it's going to change everything.
Nothing wrong with wanting a front camera in my opinion; those who do just are a bit more visionary than those who don't care about it yet.

Btw, I don't really have any feelings about the need for a front-facing camera, but that anecdote about doing an iPhone "video-conference" on the road via N1 WiFi is pretty cool. That' be a great thing to do while traveling.
Great, texting while driving is bad enough, now having a video chat while driving, please God tell me you don't live anywhere near me.

Its not that new. I remember there was hard advertising in 2003 in UK when carrier 3 got the 3g. Apple is always "revolutionizing" technologies that already existed for a while.
For front camera would be great for occasional video over ip calls, such as skype, or what fring did before.

Its not new technology. Hell, landline phones had video capabilities 10+ years ago, it never took off because its a gimmic. Facetime is a gimmic. Sure its nice but you will use it a couple of times for the "cool factor" then it will wear off, just like the Wii did with so many people.

Its not a new idea. How many times do you think you are going to drive with your friend staring at you. Does your friend have a life? Think about what you typed and how funny it sounds...

lol u ****ing crazy....lmao do u have a life? LOL
You hit the nail on the head androidmonkey. I don't think it will last long. Very gimmicky. Now when data speeds catch up that might be a different story.
For example, when phones began including really cheap-ass cameras I thought what a stupid idea. And still did until this last year or so when the quality finally caught up.
The hilarious thing to me is that King Steve in his ivory tower piously looks down upon the masses content that he is keeping them safe from porn not realizing that the#1 use of his new phone is probably NOT facetime but *****time... lol
Thank you Steve, may I have another!

lol, i can see the ads for video chat sex....
Androidmonkey is correct. Video calling has been around for years. Japan (and I believe Europe) has been doing this way before iPhone4. Just because Apple says its revolutionary or magical doesn't mean they did it first. Apple is full of ****. Their marketing team is great at making people into believing what they say. People need to open their eyes. Apple-lovers = lemmings, automatons, etc. And another thing, Facetime over wi-fi is nothing more than video chat like on your pc. Good grief.
What are you guys talking about... I use video calling on my vibrant all of the time. you can clearly see a camera to the left of the speaker
