Wifi problems, please help me - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

I just bought a XDA (HTC-Wizard) on ebay. I was very lucky with it, everything worked fine. Phone, wifi etc. But I recognized the former user had left some files, adres-books, private information and programs, so I decided to make a hard reboot.
Now I have two serious problems: the wifi doesn't work, I think my XDA thinks it has no wifi, in the comm manager the button cannot be set at on (without cross), and the XDA thinks there's no SD.
Someone any idea of what's the stupid problem, I just spent hours on the internet, but could not find the solution, not even on this forum.
BTW booting the machine it says it has ipl and spl 2.21.0001
Rietje

Hello rietjejansen,
I have a similar problem. The CommManager doesn't activate/deactivate my WiFi. I can only do it through some 3rd party app, like Homescreen++. For me, the problem comes from the CommManager of WM6.1 OR from the ROM I'm using right now.
You can try two things:
- download and install Homescreen++ (it's free). Try to activate your WiFi from there.
- flash a new ROM and see how it goes.
If you opt for the ROM, you have a G4 device in hands, just notice the final group of numbers of your IPL and SPL: 0001. For our Wizards, three 'zeros' mean a G4 device. So search for G4 safe ROMs.
Cheers

Thank you, Nandobang. I tried a third party wifi program, but that's not the solution.
Als flashing the ROM is not possible. Last week a totally new world came to me, trying to flash the ROM, but everythin I tried went out wrong.
Now I'm giving it up.

Fixed the problem
Hello
It’s unbelievable, but true: the problem is fixed.
After I threw away the Wizard, I bought, on Ebay again, a HTC P3300 (Artemis). Was very happy etc. After a few weeks I recognized the batteries of both phones are almost the same. I put the battery of the Artemis in the Wizard, and guess what? Everything fine, nothing the matter. After a time, I put back again the ‘old’ battery and the phone now is working. The old accu is a bad one, I ordered a new one, but in the meantime everything is still allright.
Now I think that a bad, old, battery which doesn’t charge very well was the cause of my problems.

XDA II: Phone not working anymore and where to repair in US?

Not quite sure what the issue is with this one. Back in the beginning of the year my XDA II fell from waist height when the carry case snap popped open (notebook bag brush across the front catching on the flap). The only noticeable problem after that was that the power button no longer works, so I have to power it on by pressing the phone or address book buttons etc.
About a month and a half after that incident the phone suddenly just stopped getting signal. I was using the standard shipping firmware with a few apps. Soft reset, hard reset both failed to fix the issue, the phone simply will not pick up the network. Interestingly enough if I play with the phone settings and go through the process of manually selecting a network the phone WILL pick up available networks in the area (this kills my idea that the GSM radio failed altogether). For now I've had to switch back to a junk phone as I've been unable to figure this one out. Anyone have any ideas on this one? I'm using T-Mobile for a service provider and I'm based out of California.
Also, does anyone know of a place that can do diagnostic/repairs here in the U.S.? So far my searches have come up empty.
Thanks in advance.
Give this a try:
Reflash the phone with any version of ROM and it should start working fine again. I think the problem is that you're radio firmware somehow got corrupt.
Ok, guess I'll have to give it a try. I've been avoiding trying the slightly riskier stuff as I got this thing via an independant third party, so warranty/support are iffy.
Is there a general release ROM that I should be looking for (using T-Mo in U.S.)? Or should I look to cooking my own (which I'd rather not)?
You can try upgrading the ROM with the same branded one. That shouldn't void the warranty.
I.e. If you've got an O2 device, get the new O2 ROM
Reflashing
I have had a simular problem with hard locking. Finally my phone quit working all together. I went into boot loader mode and flashed it. It's like having a new phone again. So yeah.. I think the ROM's can get corrupt.
Brandon
NeoCole: Looks like you are using T-Mo in the U.S. Mind if I asked what you flashed yours with? Did you use a specific ROM, Radio Stack version etc.?
I'm running an unlocked i-mate (contradictory to my subj title, I know).
Flash it with the T-mobile 1.72 ROM
ROM Version
Well.. I flashed it with the IMATE 1.72 ROM and used most of it's extended ROM. I used the battery Meeter from the Qtek extended rom. I built most of my extended ROM Myself.
I look at T-Mobile's Beta 1.72 ROM like I look at Windows ME. Both should have never happend. I can't count how many times I had a hard reset with the T-Mobile ROM. I'm not sure if it was a combination of the programs I was useing or not. I saw a post that said SBP was possibly causing the problem. So I quit using SBP products. Later I still had to HARD RESET from time to time. Now that I'm running differently, My device has never been so smooth.
Let me know if this helps,
Brandon
Looks like I'm pretty much screwed. Without a working power button I can't do a hard reset into bootloader mode. When I try using a utility app that allows me to do a hard reset I can't hold down the jog dial at the same time. Good times.
*edit: yeah, that would be 'can't' hold down the jog dial.
You don't need to boot into the bootload to perform an upgrade... the upgrade software takes care of everything for you (except the hard reset at the end)
All you need to do is sync through Activesync and then run the upgrade program.
I would (and have!) flash the imate 1.72 ROM. It is very stable for me and HAS improved the battery life of my imate.
As stated above, just start the flash process and it will put the device into bootloader mode and perform the flash. It will need a HR at the end, but since your power button is not working, maybe you could remove the battery, slide the red slide/switch back into place for a few seconds as if the battery were there, then slide it back, put in the battery, slide it back into place and press one of the puttons to turn it on.
Hey . . . it might just work!
imate 1.72 ROM did the trick. After I actually READ all the posts regarding the ROM I realized it came with an installer and got that done. So far so good. Now if I could only find my missing tomtom 3 cd key that went MIA during my last move
Hey, that's fabulous! Welcome back to the world of convergence.

BIG Problem after Upgrade to WM6

I make a ROM upgrade for WM6(1st versions) three week past.
Works for 2 days and after this, when i reset or turn ON, show the Rom versions numbers normaly and when it should enter in Mobile Windows, the screen distorts and they show some vertical lines.
I try reinstall the others ROM, but nothing.
What i do.
Thanks,
Fersoft
Wish I could help
Sounds like its been dropped or knocked. I've never heard of anything like this previously. I've been upgrading for years on all types of htc phones. I may be corrected but I do not see how a ROM can ruin your model in this way.
Have you got the original back up of the ROM that you started with?
I can olny enter in USB mode.
What ROM to RESERT completly my Pocketpc ?
Thanks any help.
Have you tried to flash an original ROM from the three color screen?
WM6 is the problem...
I got the same problem as you dude.... sounds like crossbow version isn't really suited for prophet. And I guess we'll get more and more of these troubles while more and more users are tested it (at least the first versions). I guess it has something to do with power management, and the way WM6 handles the battery. Mine got better after I flashed it back to WM5, but it still had the problem, and I had to send it back to warranty...
While you find a "solution", you can get it to work again for a few hours by letting it turned off for a few hours, battery out. That way I could flash it back to another rom. But still, after a few hours it would crash or reset itself, and you'll have to let it off without battery for a moment...
If an admin read this, I guess it could be VERY usefull to stick it to let people know they can arm their device that way.
Good luck
Amazing. I got exactly the same problem.
I am back to WM5, however, I still cant use the phone properly. After ten minutes into a phone call it crashes. When I reset I get until the OS loading screen (sometimes it even omits the radio rom number which usually comes between the SPL and OS). Then the screen distorts and thats it.
If I get the battery out for a short while and then connect it to the charger, I can restart the phone after 1-2 hours and it will load properly. However, again after 10 minutes into a phone call it crashes.
Any idea if a new battery would help, because I get more and more the feeling that something is actually wrong with the power/battery system.
Is WM6 even a final version?
I don't see any equipment running WM6 as of now, that's why i asked.
really? I don't think so.
However, every MS software still has a lot of a bug....
I have the same problem, but now even a bigger problem !
I have NO backup!
I don't know how to get it back to the original rom because mine freezes with the screen when the os version is in screen!
Damn, I only got the phone back for 4 hours because is was getting repared for a speaker failure.
and isn't that ironic..

No Phone after WM6 upgrade

ROM 5.60.00 WWE
Radio 1.15.00
Protocol 1337.45
After Helmis WM6.0 upgrade everything works fine, apart the Phone mode works only after a soft reset. Turning off in the Comm Manager works, but cannot be switched on again.
BT works perfect.
Upgrade from Radio 1.13.00 to 1.15.00 had no effect .
Any suggestions.
Thank you.

Did you follow all procedures. Specially the Clean Hive (aka)No Yes Yes ? Had you tried other ROM's? Some if not all ROMS for BA, after flash you need to turn phone ON. But from what I understand, yours turns on, then can turn off, but can't ON again. Ummm I can also suggest you to read the full thread for Helmi's ROM and see if others have had that problem and if they've found a solution.

Hey Markanthony! Happy New Year!!
@Lunart,
You may want to upgrade to a later rom since that was a bug (which was later resolved) in Helmi's WM6.0 roms. The phone cannot get into or out of flight mode (I can't remember which one)...
Try sun_dream's or xplode's roms since they no longer have any of these bugs. Hope this helps.
Hi Markanthonypr , Egzthunder1 ,
thank you for your suggestions. First I tried to re-install Helmis WM6 and applied the "clean hive" no,yes, yes. This did not work.
And then I flashed sun_dreams Rom and everything is 100 %.
Thank you both. Best wishes from Germany.

Glad you got it working. Enjoy!! This is a great phone. I'm shopping for another one for my girlfriend
Edit: Hey Egz, remember I mentioned about my Siemens SX66 now showing PH20B instead of PH20B1? Well guess what... As I was seeing other phones on E-Bay, one folk showed an enlarged pic of his phone w/o battery, and I noticed it said Ph20B <<<But.. Its a Siemens(NO CAM).... soooo I removed battery on my phone and guess? It also says PH20B... So I'm very confused. I would have swore that I had seen on the phone info that it was a PH20B1(As shown on Device Info/Identity) and have also read everywhere on here about PH20B1's being without camera(as mine is), so, which is my correct phone? LOL ok, I know what the Back Label says! PH20B! But.. It is confusing... Any Lights?

Weird... if you got your BA second hand, there is a chance that the previous owner exchanged the case for a PH20B either to make it look nicer or maybe because he messed it up along with the camera, which he/she might have messed up as well (too farfetched of a theory if you ask me, but it is possible)... God only knows!
Another explanation is that they put the wrong board on the phone when they made it... could happen (far more likely to happen than a guy completely modding his BA )
Anyway... weird indeed.
hi i have exactly the same problem. but with sundreams rom
HTC-BA_5.2.20758WWE_v3.02__25M_PP-16M_RAMdisk
i am not really sure but i think i can't really controll anything via comm manager except for switching the phone off (on does not work obviously...), i definitly can not turn wi-fi and bt on using the comm manager. turning it off i did not test yet (i have activated / deactivated wi-fi and bt through the options in "settings" until now)
any ideas?
greetz fleity
Well... first and foremost, Lunart's issue has nothing to do with Wifi or BT, it was a problem with "Flight Mode" option in the Comm Manager.
Your issue is a completely different one. It is a bug that has been widely talked about in this forum. There are probably close to 100 posts (if not more with the answer for your question). I feel like being a nice guy though, so I will save you the search time.
The problem with CommManager was introduced somewhere along the porting of WM5 (aka Magneto) back in the day. The problem consists in the comm manager not being able to load the necessary drivers for wifi from its interface (don't ask me why, I have no clue). The workaround for this is relatively simple. [highlight]You have to do this after every soft reset, so please keep it in mind.[\highlight]
1. In the CommManager, go to Settings > Wireless Lan
2. Once there, you will see the option "Wireless LAN OFF. Turn on WLAN". Click on it. More than likely, your device will try to establish a connection and fail (sometimes it does connect though). This is fine since your objective was not to establish a connection at this point. You are only trying to load the drivers.
3. Get out of the settings and go back to Comm Manager and click on the WLAN icon and Voila!!!! You will now be able to toggle Wifi on and off via CommManager.
BT should work without problems though. If you are still having problems (and considering the strange behavior in CommManager that you are describing), you may want to consider a Hard Reset. One other alternative for things not working the way they should could be that you did not completely clean the Hive after flashing the rom.
Hopefully this will help you out.
hm thx but that is unfortunatly not directly my problem. i don't really care if i can control wifi and bt with the comm manager because for them i have other possibilities (speaking of the settings dialog etc.). i just thought it would be usefull to know.
the real issue is the phone i am able to turn it off via comm manager but not on again (and with no other button, dialog whatever too).
i noticed it yesterday when i was visiting a friend, at his house i have absolutly no signal at all, so i thought "hey why not turn the phone off, lets see how much battery that saves me" and later as i tried to turn it on again my only chance was a soft reset.
if you can tell me just some way to switch the phone on and off i don't need the comm manager anyway

Like I said, it could be an installation problem (the hive not being properly cleaned out and so on). A hard reset should take care of the problem. I have the same rom as you do (only without the pagepool) and have not experienced this problem at all. Give it a try and hopefully it will solve your issue.
ok i will do that thx already

it would be better to ask in the special thread of the ROM you´re using. It´s neither a gerneral Blackstone issue nor one of WM 6.5
Now, I have flashed to a diffrent radio, but cant do anything as well.
Any body can help?
Wifi
I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago.
My provider changed the phone for me as a fault.
Now, all is fine.
The problem is now I have spl the unit and start up color looks weird.
How do I get back to the old spl?
so that my warranty wont be voided?
Please Help Needed here.

you'd better to try "WiFi Monster"!
i have same problem in my hd !
Moving to balckstone
Post your question in the rom thread that you have an issue with else in the general section. Issue has nothing to do with developement
The problem is I had changed to original and cooked rom, the result is the same.
I was wondering if its really a bad hardware, how come it would work if I do a soft reset (not every time can work, even hard reset).
My apology if I had post in the wrong section.
But wifi monster did help a lot, when I turn on the wifi using the original com manager, it wont work, but when I use the wifi monster, some time will work, and some time need a reset or hard reset.
any one can help.

You mention colours look weird. If I'm right you have fallen to to the old trap of using wrong HSPL resulting in a greenish discolourization. This would also affect phone & wifi.
What does your SPL say? Which rom are you using?
To get back to original SPL for warranty reasons follow this guide and scroll down to section called
How to reflash Stock/Shipped SPL - STEP BY STEP - FOR WARRANTY REASONS ONLY! at bottom of 1st post
@Fallen, I am using original starhub provider for the first time, the wifi got problem, later I hard spl 156, and upgraded to energy rom, the wifi still the same problem, sometime will on and sometimes can't on. But now thanks to your link, I managed to revert back to the original SPL, and original rom. But the wifi is still the same prob. For the first few hour the wifi can on, but after that the problem comes again. I cant even tick the turn on wifi. nothing happen when I tick the wifi option.
I have another unit for comparison today, the same radio, the same rom, the same spl, and the other unit works well, wifi on when ever I want to use it.
Someone can help?
Really confusing me..
Not sure HW or SW prob.
If HW fault, the wifi wont even turn on, Am I right?
or its got something to do with the radio?
Anyone can help?
Nope - but the same happened to one of ours this month (stock Orange UK handset, never been flashed, 3 months old). Wifi refused to start, TF3D camera app unable to locate hardware (black screen, icon to select camera missing). Random device.exe error reports when trying to use the camera and once per restart from the WiFi stack. Hard resets, etc. made no difference, and Orange simply replaced it, saying it was listed on their system as a hardware issue.
If you Google you'll find groups of other people arguing over the same problem, on several different HTC handsets, and nobody's ever gotten a solution other than sending it back. Lots of "helpful" stock answers about re-flashing but the OPs reply it hasn't made any difference, and the repaired phones all seem to come back with boards and cables swopped.
Thanks for all the response, I guess I had to go to the service center for warranty claim.
Now, I found My problem.
When ever I instaled any program. the wifi will stoped working.
is that software issue?
or hard ware issue?
But when I didnt instal any third application the wifi work perfectly, I have changed to several rom including 6.5 coocked.
Last attempt before going to service center.
my wifi was working fine with Dutty's R9, and an attempt to connect to some hotspot in the mall led me to connect to no one. and back at home it is also not connecting to the home wifi.
i've edited and deleted the settings but still its not connecting . want to check other options before performing a hard reset.

[bug]should I return my device to htc?

Hello all !!
I have a problem with my Leo, seen several times on the forum, but with a little thing more.
so,
_it freeze up often (with battery drainage, full when i go to sleep and shut off when wake up)
_soft reset alone
_i must do many (and many) soft reset when it freeze up, because it freeze on start up.
_and when it's happened, the part below the battery is hot!!
i've test many rom, with task29 whenever and hard reset after flash, and on every 1st start up, freeze...
Do you know this problem?
thank you.
"edit"I also tried to remove the micro sd is the same thing.
nobody has the part below the battery hot?
is it the ram or processor? (or both lol)
if possible at all, just get a replacement while you still can.
I have the same problems more or less. More specifically it freezes randomly ONLY when using the internet (on GPRS, 3G, I havent tried it in wifi), and when it does it gets hot on the part under the battery (really, what part is there?).
Anyway, I send it to the service (couldn't get a replacement), and they checked it but they found no problems
Oh, and i have tried e v e r y t h i n g I could in order to find out why that happens. With SD, whithout SD, Stock Rom, Custom Rom, ,Different Radios, Nothing Installed, you name it, but the problem is there. I am not sure though if I can connect the problem to my SIM card, or the gsm network in my area (doubt it though since I was using my old TP2 flawlessly), but I do not have the knowledge to even guess if that could be the possible reason of the problem.
HTC will ask you to use the stock rom and try if you still get the problem , if so, then your phone might be a defective one. go to HTC and ask for a replacement.
flash stock spl and rom and go for htc ,if hard reset didnot solve these issues then it is a defective device
thank you,
my leo is SFR branded, so I must go through them and with SFR rom.
to get a replacement, it will be hardly.
i'll try on thursday, when i come back home.
thank you very much.
If you've had it more than 7 days (including the time it took to get to you if you ordered it from the SFR website) they won't give you a new one... They'll send it off to be repaired which can take up to 14 days. I know... I had to do it twice in the first month until they finally fixed my microphone problem...
to see after the repair.
thanks at all!
HI, after 2 repairs,i finally have my hd2 !!
1st time, software uptdate...so nothing
2nd time they changed the motherboard.
Test for 2 days before change the rom lol
