Yes, of course xbackup can do it. But what I mean is only backup the setting of IA Caller ID because it will be more convenient when you flash your rom to another version or another language.
Well, I've been using Sprite's Backup (which is supposed to be more reliable and robust than xbackup) and does not restore my IA Caller ID settings!
There is a table named IA_Photo_Contacts in directory of databases when you browse your device during activesync connection. Anyone can tell me where the exact location of tables in databases directory ? Can I really backup my phone and ringtone setting if I backup this table ?
Thank you
also using sprite backup and my caller id settings are not backed up as well...
the database solution is worth a try though... maybe after I finish setting up my ppc I will try this (I'm doing a fresh install right now -- hard reset)

Did you try to restore a backup from WM5? The WM6 and WM5 PIM databases are different and you will corrupt WM6 by doing this (so if you use like SPB backup to restore your contacts from WM5, it screws it up).
Here's your fix:
Start>Settings>System>Clear Storage
Type 1234 and hit yes. Reboot and voila. All done.
I promise this is your fix.
i didnt use a spb backup but i did move everything from old xda could i of accidently moved my old pim database? if so where is it located to remove?

Yes..this allows you to get the contacts application working, but how do you get your contacts back if you have used SBP backup?

You don't (or can't) use a WM5 backup on WM6. You would have needed to us a program like PIM Backup to take the backup on WM5, then you can restore that on WM6. Or, just resync with Outlook (if you use that).
As to your other question, what do you mean you "moved" everything from your old XDA? How did you "move" stuff?
i dragged it off in file explorer to my pc and dragged it all back on
basically i need a clean wm6 pim file by sounds of it and need to know location to move it to to get it working again

pim.vol is located in the root of your drive. Use TotalCommander and you can see it there in / .
I've never messed with the file, but you might try renaming it, then do a softreset and see if a new one is created (warning, this could screw up your phone, but it sounds like its screwed up anyway). The other is do a hardreset, or reflash the device.

BackUp HTC Touch HD

Nokia phones have "Nokia PC Suite" Software that allows users to perform complete back up without have any application installed on the phone it self.
Dose HTC Touch HD has similar application to back up the phone without install some application on the phone it self?
163 Views without answer ... that’s mean the answer is no
There is other question any I hope there will be answer to it.
If I change the ROM of my phone to other version and i want to put it back again ... how I can do it?
Can I do it by restore old backup or format the phone or install the old ROM again? ... or something else
If the answer if Install the old ROM again, then how I can get the old ROM to install it later on?
I always use Sprite backup, works OK with the HD. Not free but I think it is available as a download on the HTC site for some of the other models. May work with the HD

Very interested in an easy way to backup my HD aswell Especially without the use of third party programs. Curious to see what HTC has to say about it...
After some research on this forum, the Wiki, Dutch forums...and ofcourse good ol' Google... I did learn about an easy way to backup Contacts and Calendar entries. Turns out this information is stored in a single file in the Root of the phone. The file is called PIM.VOL and just making a copy of this file to either Storage Card or your PC will ensure you being able to replace your original Contacts and Calendar Entries after executing a Hard Reset.
I'm sure most of you allready knew this but for me it was a very nice discovery Now if only I could make such a cool discovery as to backing up SMS/MMS messages aswell

Rolf (35, m, The Netherlands)

Is either Spb Backup or Sprite Backup able to restore eMail account settings and exchange server configuration? For me, this is the most annoying thing after upgrading to a new ROM: I have an MS exchange server access for active syncing and at least two private mail accounts set up on my device. After upgrading, I always had to set up everything all over again.
Cheers,
Eriol
I don't think anyone should need to actually buy SPB Sprite Backup. A legit free copy is on the applications CDROM that came with my NL HD. Check yours to see what is there. After installation you will see it is 'authorised' without having to enter a registration key. You can still register tho'.
You might also find SPB GPRSMonitor too Very handy...
I had no luck with spb backup and SKTools backup. Alothough they were backing up they had a problem with the Restore procedure.
Sprite Bacup 6.5.2 worked great!

Download SKTools from our webpage again. We hope, the restore problem on HD should be fixed.

By the way I replaced my HD with a new one due to a hardware problem and I had to send you an email and ask for a new code as the previous one didnt work! Will I have to do the same again if I downoad the new version?
Why is this happening? Its not very user friendly!

Updates are free for all registered SKTools 4.x user.
If you will get registration key for SKTools we need the file “ sktoolsid.txt “ which you can find in your windows folder of Pocket PC and the webshop order confirmation with date.

Thanks.
Thanks for the answer!
I just saw the update features. I have the "Last Used" option so I suppose I have the newest version!
If you're just looking to back up pictures, phone contacts etc... then Dashwire is good (and free) as a basic back up programme and you can automatically change it to suit your phone if you get a new one. Works great on the HTC for as far as it goes.

PIM Backup - can we see the contacts in PC?

I had a WM6 mobile. I sold it since i find difficult with touch screen input in busy schedule!.
I had backuped my contacts with PIM backup.
Now i have the backup file but no WM6 mobile.
So, is there anyway I can see the backuped contacts in PC?
So that I can enter them manually to my new phone?

Bhoopesh

I would say that's a lie.
PIMBackup interfaces itself with pocket outlook database using standard software calls. I used it myself to migrate PIM data from iPaq 214 to this Leo.
There is no particular reason that would make it more error prone than any other backup software... on the contrary, I'd say it's on of the safest, most repeatable way to backup your PIM data.
As an additional measure, you may want to make a backup copy of the file \pim.vol but that's unnecessary IMO.

activesync should resore your contacts when you pair your new leo with your PC.
