3g oly option? - Touch Diamond2, Pure General

hey,
does anyone know of a program that will work on 6.5 to select 3g only?
Cheers

In a way...
MoDaCo NoData will allow you to disable connections; You can opt to disable only your WAP connection (2G/2.5G) and leave your 3G connection enabled. Don't know if it will stop the icon showing, but it should prevent slow data.
I've not tested it

how to disable GPRS

is there anyway to disable GPRS ? after setting up my GPRS settings yesterday, GPRS seems to be enable all the time now
how can I disable it? and enable it when i need it only
I have black 2.5
If you have black 2.5, you should have HTweakC installed. Open HTweakC, click on Tweaks, click Phone, click GPRS, 3G Connection. From there you will have different options to allow or disable GPRS connections, as well as keeping them on constantly.

At home, GPRS vs. Wi-Fi

Everyone,
Apologies, and I know this is a stupid question, but when at home with my htc tound pro, with WiFi on, and connected, why do I need the phone on too for the WiFi to work,...?
Also, when both are on and working, which system is used, i.e., the SIM card connection or the WiFi connection,...?
WiFi I pay a flat monthly rate for unlimited data, with the SIM card I am on a fixed amount of data transfer per month,...
Thanks for listening,
ek
Well..
You may be using an application that is not Wifi aware. So, it demands a GPRS/EDGE/3G connection. So - in effect - it's not actually using the Wifi connection.
If you can use the application with Wifi on, and phone off - it's Wifi aware. (Meaning it can utilize Wifi).
If you can't use the application without the phone being on - it's not Wifi aware or has not been configured to use the Wifi.
What application are you having issues with?
thanks for getting back to me,... WM Professional 6.1 and the Internet Explorer program when going on to the web,... i'm just wondering which systems does the phone use when both are functioning,... am i using the gprs from my SIM card or am I using the wi-fi in my home,...? and why do i need the phone turned on to use the wi-fi in my home,...?
thanks again,...
ek
you can see if it's using gprs on the icon for signal str if it's showing animations
it's using gprs
otherwise it's using wifi
if you set
settings-connections-connection-advanced-select network to my homenetwork
it dont use gprs
did you set the gprs settings to your gsm provider?
i would prefer wifi over gprs/3g anyday unless if your home internet is extremely slow ( <300kbps). the battery life would be almost equal so why not a faster connection?

I'd like to understand how WM decides which network to use when it has a choice e.g. HSDPA and WiFi. I've looked at the settings mentioned above and I currently have Internet using Contract Internet (HSDPA) and Work using WiFi as the WiFi networks I connect to are firewalled and privately addressed.
What settings should I have to ensure that when I have the choice of WiFi and HSDPA (at home) I use WiFi, and when out and about I use HSDPA?
Everytime an application wants to connect to the net:
- If wifi is connected and GSM isn't, it uses Wifi
- If wifi isn't connected, it tries connecting to GSM and will use that.
- If both are connected - we don't really know what happens.
When you're at home, check that GSM is not connected (no little E, G, 3G or H on the signal bar icon, disconnect it if connected), turn on wifi, wait until the arrows have stopped moving on the Wifi icons, and now you can launch the program that wants to connect to the net, and it will use wifi.
If at this point you get a popup about the phone connecting to GSM data again, then there's a connectivity problem on your Wifi and the device can't reach the net through it.
You might want to install Modaco Nodata, it allows you do disable automatic connection to GSM so that you can be sure it doesn't connect when you don't want it to.
mine never use gprs when it have wifi
I have a Touch HD and I can make things work fine by manually turning off the data connection then turning on WiFi in the comm manager when I'm at home or vice versa when I'm out and about.
I would have thought win mobile 6.1 would have been a mature enough OS to allow this to be configured automatically. This and Opera are my only outstanding issues with the HD.
Strange. I can easily shut my phone off, enable wifi & browse fine.

How to disable Auto data Connection (3G, Edge)

Dear ALL,
I need to know how to disable data Connection (Edge, 3G), because my device sometimes connect to Edge or 3G service automatically, I dont have any running programms that needs data connection or auto update !!!
At the same time I want my phone to connect only when recieving MMS messages !
Please advice !
Hi there,
you can install 'HD Tweak' and Disable the items in 'Data (GPRS/EDGE/HSDPA)'.
You can also try Nodata application from Modaco
=> http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-software/246171/new-free-utility-nodata/
Edit : Caution, Nodata stop ALL data (MMS too) so cymagnus's solution is better
nodsata can toggle mms on/off.
I cant get that HD Tweak to open, all i get is a long page full of codes and such, any suggestions?

Can you not do it manually like this? Start/Settings/Connections Tab/Connections button/Advanced tab/Select Networks button. Then in the pop up where it says "Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using:
Select "MY ISP".
I think MMS will still run?
I have done it and it works, thanx alot

ahmad which way worked for u??, i think if u go to phone, options, band, select your network choose GSM, THAT will solve the problem
It's very easy and you don't need any tools!
Just go to Start--> Settings --> Connections --> Connections --> Advanced --> Secelct Networks and select 'My Work Network' from the dropdown menus.
after selecting "my work network," my main screen still shows the icon "E" does it mean anything?

Having loaded Nodata and then Tweak and found it also had a 'nodata' element I then discovered the HD built in Connection settings.
Seems to work fine.
Cheers

Means you have an EDGE connection.
nodata its good and works fine on my HD
Hi. I'm not shure what you wanted to do but i'm having the following problem:
In network management if I have selected "programs ...that connect to the internet should use->Mobile Internet" then it allways uses this connection, even if i'm on wifi....and that's not good for me. If i select "my work network" and i'm not connected to wifi, it doesn't go to gprs.
I don't want to manualy set Data connection off every time i'm on wifi and then turn on when i want to use gprs/3g.
How do you do it?

If you select "Programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using "yourproviderGPRS" (or whatever you have got that is relevant to data connection) it should connect to the internet using WIFI when WIFI is enabled and GPRS when WIFI is off. That's how mine works anyway. If I set it to "my ISP" GPRS will not autimatically connect until I manually change the settings. Hope that makes sense.
It maybe is a poor mans solution, but whenever I travel abroad I simply switch to a copy of my active account in which I deleted the password of my dataconnection. That way i am sure it won't connect. Whenever it tries to connect it will simply ask for the pw first.
You are on an active data connection only when you see the "E" as part of the 4 bars cell phone signal icon.
Not sure ? Then just tap the title bar where you see the "E" and the grey "System Status" screen comes on. here, tap on the "E" icon here and you will see the connectivity status message that says something like "No active connections" or similar.
Basically the E means that you are on "EDGE" signal.
Hope this helps !!
Cheers !!

Has anybody worked out who has the final say?
I have the Standard Built In Connections, NoData and HDTweak.
From what I can see the Built in gets overridden, i.e. with Built In set to Off using the Internet outside of a WiFi area, stills connects via the cell network.
I think adjusting the settings as suggested previously is the best route.

Wifi instead of Data connection

I have been trying for a long time trying to figure out a way to use Samsung Omnia Pro b7610 wifi connection for all applications which require internet connection like windows update, widgets, browsing internet. No matter what i do, it doesnt work, although I managed to somehow use wifi for browsing internet by using IE but no other service. When I go to "Manage my connection", it shows me no option for making a wifi connection, it only shows make/edit modem connection, VPN, proxy settings and if i go to advance settings it shows my GPRS connections only for editing, if I want to make a new connection, it asks me for dialing properties only related to modem.
Please help me out, what should I do. Another thing on the top bar where all the icons are displayed for network, battery, there is an "E" in a box, as far as I think it is my GPRS connection/data connection, but when I click on this icon it takes me to network settings where there is no option for disabling it, like it does in case of wifi icon.
Regards
Inder
when you create/edit your gprs setting, you need to make sure in the "select a modem", you are using GPRS. Then you will need to setup your access point. I.E., Tmobile would be either internet2.voicestream.com or wap.voicestream.com.
i have all the GPRS settings, which my service provider sent me and I saved them. It shows all the info like access point, user name, password but my problem is not this, I do not want to use GPRS at all, instead I want my wifi to be my default connection for all internet related tasks, I want to disable GPRS.
The icon for GPRS at top task bar which is "E" in a box, does not disappear no matter what I do, I want to pay for GPRS charges for accessing internet instead I want to use wifi for this purpose, please help me out to disable this E icon, when I click on it, it takes to network settings, where all the settings are like Select band, select network -manual/automatic, wifi, 3g- which I have turned off, no GPRS enable or disable function.
My problem is simple, i want to use wifi as a default connection like we do on our PC/laptop, so that all the applications which need internet access can use wifi instead of GPRS or data connection.
Regards
i have managed the same problem with a freeware named NoData
there you can enable & disable GPRS/WAP connections
google for 'modaco nodata'
