Is the an app that allows us to take pictures without displaying the capture screen? (in other words, it looks like you're doing something else but you're actually taking pictures)
Also, is there any app that can record videos without be on top? (kinda like how WMP can play music from the background) The stock camcorder program stops recording when you minimize it.
If these apps don't exist can someone code them? Or maybe modify the stock camcorder program so it doesn't cut the recording when you minimize it.
Just one touch video would be good. it takes too long to open the app and sort through menus when you want to record something quickly. :-(
I agree. Even just speeding up the stock camera program would help. Or assigning the capture button to an actual key like the 'call' key.
you can assign it to a button (i use the mute button on the back of the phone) using the rhodium keyboard driver
can you please describe in detail how you mapped that?

Hey guys, I listen to music on my phone all the time via the "touch" knockoff audio manager and I love it. I have batterystatus and I really like that I can turn off the screen with a few clicks. My question is does anyone know of a program that I can set my record button (or any programable hard button) to turn off the screen or something along those lines? I would love to still be able to control the music without the display, just to get that much more battery life.
Thanks for any help.
You can choose a hardbutton for screen on/off on the player called "mortplayer".

There are wonderfull skins too!
i know Wizard and Prophet are different...but FYI with my prophet the music keeps going when I tap the off button to "standby"; and I can control the volume/tracks with BT headset.
Don't know why it should be different with wizard.
Also there is a small util in the pdamobiz rom i am running called "displayswitch" which can be mapped to a hardware button. This works if you want to use the phone buttons with the screen off.
edit: turns out displayswitch is part of psshutxp http://ppcsoft.narod.ru/english/

You can assign any installed program to any of the hardware buttons by clicking Start/Settings/Personal/Buttons. Why not assign PSshut to the record button, and tap "Light Off" when PSshut pops up? This will blacken your screen while listening to music, saving some battery life. You can find PSShut by scrolling the drop down arrow box in "Buttons"
Mortplayer also can be configured to kill the screen and all buttons save one from a timer, in the latest version. Very easy to use, doesn't require an additional program to achieve your goal.
If you're totally locked into your audio manager, though, I'd look into Smartskey. I was not a big fan at first, but it's fairly capable, and with a little tweaking, will probably do what you want.
gsplayer...
With the insanely fast work of the developers it's now possible to record video in 720p! The only problem is the lack of a physical button on the HD2.
I was wondering if it were possible to map the recording button to one of the volume buttons on the rocker. I know retrocamera allows custom mapping but I have no idea how difficult it might be in this case. Is it possible?
And thank you developers for your insanely awesome hard work!

Yes in the latest froyo roms 72o p works and seems to be fast , but the only missing thing is the button , (like sitting infront of a beautiful cake but cannot touch it )
Would it be possible to map it to long press of home because thats kind of a useless function for the most part anyway.

Not for the most part, but, it'll be ok for the camcorder
I'm pretty sure the action is DPAD_CENTER. If you could bind that to a button or something it should do the job for hitting the trackball. Pressing and holding Homekey to do a trackball click would be ideal IMO if it's possible.
Nothing at all works when I try and open the camcorder.
I can take photos fine, but the second i switch to video its a force close
Any update on this? Would be fun to see if 720p video recording in Froyo would work.
After about month of using my dinc, I've found that I literally never press the opti trackpad button. Is there any way to make this button act as a dedicated camera button (or to set it up to launch a specific app). I've done no customization to my phone thus far (waiting on a stable froyo custom ROM), but I have no problem with rooting or installing a custom ROM in order to get this functionality. Does anyone know if this is possible? I'd love to reclaim this currently useless button.
Download Vignette from the market and you can set your trackpad to take pics or you can even tap the screen to take a photo.
I think morph2k4 is talking about having the button work even when you're not in a camera app. So the idea would be, any time you press that button, it would either take a picture or open a camera app. With Vignette, that button only works when you already have the app open.
Exactly right, I want to make that button load up my camera app from anywhere.
You should take this to the development forum, they might be able to help.
Hi guys,
so, do you know of any trick or mod or app to do that?
I mean when taking a picture to use a hardware button?
Thanks.
There was an app for this on WinMo, you could use the volume buttons to take a photo instead.
I'd love to see this for Android (would it be phone specific? Not universal? If its even possible)

Third party camera apps allow you to assign a hardware button (RetroCamera lets you use either vol-up or vol-down). But I haven't seen the ability to have the built-in camera app assign a hardware shutter release.
I will try that one see how it works.
So I came across this youtube video "20 tips and tricks for the htc one". I actually discovered a few things I didn't know about!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZsZemJdR48
1. Tap the status bar to scroll to top of blinkfeed/app drawer
2. Swipe from top/bottom to change front/rear camera whilst in the camera app
3. You can split and merge event folders in the gallery
4. You can hold the shutter button when in the camera app to take a burst shot
5. Power button + home (or volume button) takes a screen shot
6. whilst watching a video you can hit the shutter button to take a photo
Some of these may already be widely known, but I didnt know about them and im a pretty long time HTC user.
Does anyone know how to remove the facebook crap from the gallery?
Please feel free to share your tips and tricks here!
